I've added “Total balance” to the overview section of the wallet.  I was getting tired of adding “stake” and “balance” together to see how much I had. Cheesy I'm kind of new at git so I thought I'd ask how to check in these changes.  Should I just run “git commit -a” on the main branch or is there some descriptions on how people should submit code changes?

Thanks for that. Maybe make merge pull request, I'll check it out and merge into the repo.

We have a number of exchanges in China to work with, while I am yet to see an appropriate time to carry it on.

Awesome Joe.Would be great to see Magi on Chinese exchanges. Keep us informed about this!

China is a big market with lots of potential here.

Exactly. Smiley

Why is this coin special? Its a normal altcoin

Let me make you a summary:

- CPU-only coin mostly because if hashrate increases a lot the network reward decreases. That also denies botnet mining.
- PoS-II, nice reward even if you have low balance.
- Hybrid coin, if PoW ends to be CPU-only coin then don't worry because PoS will still be available.
- Nice community which helps you in a long-term investment.

Good question! Many things. Read the OP and you find the information about the unique blockreward system, First POS-II, MQW and much more. Any specific questions? You are welcome to ask.
Thanks for informing me. I will investigate to mine and buy, I like antiasic coins  Wink

I was attracted to Magi for a number of reasons, mainly because it has some USP's as already summarised by LordCoder - and a great community. If you order by number of posts in the alt coin announcement - you'll see that Magi is the 25th most popular coin (19th in terms of views, suggesting there is also a lot of inactive members also reading the posts) - and most of the coins that are higher in ranking have been around for quite a bit longer than Magi. Some other highly capitalised coins/shares have virtually no community. Some in the top 10 on coin market cap have only around 50 pages and still use bitcointalk as their main communication channel.

It is amazing that we get that far. I concerned getting more than 100 pages; getting that was one of the supports asking Bittrex to add us into their exchange list to evidence the popularity; now more than 500 pages. And I think it would never be the case of closing up this thread and opening up a NEW self-moderated thread as some others did that is almost like a suicide.

I thought it was not, but now I think of that magi wasn't get pumped and hence no much disappointing & complaining around is nice. I am proud of the fact that (mostly) all posts are nice; it is really fun to read posts starting from page 1. I did personally wished that the coin gets pumped initially, but now I am more convinced that wasn't a good idea. To get high levels, all or most of altcoins have to be pumped, and they are done already; this is a fact in this crypto scene which, however, won't allow much room to fill the needs of that many coins. People would rarely put trusts into either of them due the pump & dump which is rather an unavoidable consequence in the most cases.

There is really much fun here; though people come and go and you never know who they are by the name they claim to be, there are some people the others can find around as always.

After speaking of that, magi is truly an altcoin, and specs things more than special beside those inherited from bitcoin, but you might find some interesting things by that. Basically we don't need to claim very big inventions, but need to get those basic points on the track, and those basic points would be something big; well this is tough though, but I think magi is interesting in this aspect (don't ask me what is that, sorry, would be bit "tough" question). Either way I'd rather put out some big things that make big attraction to people and make them believe in something, and that might end up disappointing in the last; research it a bit on your own does help.

Nice summary, thanks.

Why does the block explorer state "WARNING: Checkpoint is too old. Wait for block chain to download, or notify developers. "
Probably that wallet is not the latest; checkpoints recently updated in v1.2.3.

Actually, the site is reporting version 1.2.3.0. Maybe the issue with checkpoints isn't actually fixed?

Edit: here's a blurb from the HoboNickels Troubleshooting Guide
Quote
What does "Warning Checkpoint too old" mean?
This message is a warning and in most cases is ok to ignore.  The only time a user should see this is during and possibly after the initial network block download. Stop and Restarting the client should clear the message. However verifying you are on the correct block and checkpoint by looking at getinfo and getcheckpoint and comparing both values against a different external source, are usually enough to ensure you are running correctly.

This message could also show up if the checkpoint server was turned off or no checkpoints are issued with in the allotted time frame.  This again can be ignored safety if you double check your current block count with some external source. If there are more serious issues with your client, a global warning will be issued and your wallet will further direct you on what to do.

I missed that site version info; for some reason, the warning persists after changing to the new client. Seems like people get it removed by starting over the block chain with the new wallet, for the reason I don't quite understand:

Still giving the same error, I'll put below all process of ./configure CFLAGS="-O3" CXXFLAGS="-O3"

That's interesting. You may want to try
Code:
sudo port clean gmp
sudo port install gmp

I have a sneaking suspicion that my suggesting the -t option before may have caused GNU MP to install in the wrong place.

If that doesn't help, what version of OSX are you running? I want to check on the location of your libraries directory.

That's okay as Macports always push new stuffs into /opt/local; libgmp.a would be in /opt/local/lib. @n0m4d33 let me know per PM.

In two days the PoI II campaign will end, but how much is the interest ? And about the PoM campaign (I'msorry if I've already asked this) when does it end ?

I can not tell the exact interest at the moment. Only when the Proof of Interest is finished.
The Proof of Mining will end also soon.
Magi team would not end the campaigns on the same date, Magi team is working out a plan for that.
Also working on new campaigns. Smiley

I got an education plan.
554  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XMG] Coin Magi | CPU mining | PoS-II | PoM | Unique BLK reward | [MagiPay] on: September 27, 2015, 07:14:31 PM
@n0m4d33, addition to compiling gmp mentioned by feldenthorne, macports installation might be easy. What you get after running gmp installation? that is,

sudo port install gmp

I don't see any reason macports would reject to install.

After running gmp installation this is what is returned:

Code:
--->  Cleaning gmp
iMac-de-Andre:~ Andre$ sudo port install gmp
--->  Cleaning gmp
--->  Scanning binaries for linking errors
--->  No broken files found.

But when I try to compile the minerd, after running:
Code:
./configure CFLAGS="-O3" CXXFLAGS="-O3"
 the terminal returns this error:
Code:
configure: error: GNU MP not found, see https://gmplib.org/

You actually have gmp installed; what's missing is to configure path so that the compiler can find the library.

Open up "Terminal", run:

Code:
cd
nano .profile

you can use command+V to paste following lines to the file .profile:
Code:
export CPPFLAGS="-I/opt/local/include $CPPFLAGS"
export LDFLAGS="-L/opt/local/lib"
export PATH="/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:$PATH"
That is step 3 of https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=735170.msg9576881#msg9576881

Then Ctrl+o to save, Ctrl+x to exit;
Exit Terminal and relaunch it, then configure & compile miner again.

Also, I'd call for you guys shifting a portion of hash into SuchPool that needs bit backing:

https://www.suchpool.pw/xmg/

Share hashrate guys.
 Smiley

I can't mine on this pool. It's says me : stratum_suscribe send failed
                                                          ...retry after 10 seconds

Edit : while I was typing this message it worked back. Pretty weird  Huh...

Same message I got at the beginning; after a while everything gets normal.

What's the recommended miner and settings for i7 4790 @ Win7 64? Computer is running 24/7 with no important tasks.

I don't have first-hand info but following are links to the miner:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=735170.msg10712548#msg10712548
http://xmg.makejar.com/

There are no much adjustment you can do as to optimizing parameters to set up the miner, except the number of cores. Most important could be to make sure the cpu cooler is clean and efficient; then check hash rate with different cores; in certain case running with all of cores is not equal to maximum hash. I also suggest a percentage of cpu usage to reduce heats.

The price isn't really the important thing, but also more usage of the same. This alt coin should be used for buying things, not for exchanging.

Both are important.

But I agree with you, we need more things to buy with Magi, maybe services?

I offer my services to translate English to Portuguese

Buying or exchanging somehow make sense. Hope joe will come up with an idea that will make magi useful with some none trust financial system.

Hey bro any suggestions?
560  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XMG] Magi |1st PoS-II |1st PoM | M7M CPU only [Poloniex] [Bittrex] on: September 25, 2015, 10:45:47 PM
How do I do to mine this coin on a mac computer? Does somebody tried to compile the miner on unix os?

Guide of compiling minerd on mac os:

1. Ensure Xcode and the command line tools are installed.

2. Download and Install MacPorts: http://www.macports.org/install.php

3. Edit ~/.profile to include the following content:

Code:
export CPPFLAGS="-I/opt/local/include $CPPFLAGS"
export LDFLAGS="-L/opt/local/lib"
export PATH="/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:$PATH"

4. Install libraries
Open up app "Terminal"
Code:
sudo port selfupdate
sudo port install automake autoconf git openssl gmp

5. Compile minerd
Code:
git clone https://github.com/noncepool/m7magi-cpuminer-v2
cd m7magi-cpuminer-v2
./autogen.sh
./nomacro.pl
./configure CFLAGS="-O3" CXXFLAGS="-O3"
make

6. start minerd
For example, nonce-pool:
Code:
minerd -o stratum+tcp://mine2.magi.nonce-pool.com:4090 -u <username.worker> -p <password>
Suprnova pool:
Code:
minerd -o stratum+tcp://xmg.suprnova.cc:7128 -u <username.worker> -p <password>
<username.worker> and <password> should be set up in a pool.

I tried to do these steps, but I've failed.

Where do I do the 3rd step?

And, in the 5th step when I hit the "make" command, the terminal returned me the following message: "make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found.  Stop."

So I couldn't finish the tutorial.

Cloud anyone help me?

You can open up a text editor and load up the file .profile in your home directory. Afterwards, redo step 5, any error message after running ./configure CFLAGS="-O3" CXXFLAGS="-O3"?
