541  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What Aspect of Sports Betting or Casino Gambling Posed a Challenge for You? on: December 12, 2023, 03:19:44 PM
It is mostly in the betting side of things. At first, I don't understand how a parlay works. I know that it multiplies the odds of the games you add to it, but didn't know that you can't put two different betting lines of the same game as bets. It took me a while to figure it out, and I mostly got the answers here on bitcointalk upon reading some of the users' inputs on parlays and betting in general. It has been my favorite type of bet ever since, and I've been trying to add more to the legs of my bet and see how far can I go with parlays.

This is one of the extreme measures that one could do in order to ensure that they will not set foot on a casino ever again. That doesn't exclude them from offshore casinos though, and it's still within the realm of possibility that they create an account there and play. A lot of gambling platforms are based on Curacao nowadays, and it's really easy to bypass this self-imposed ban if they really want to get that gambling itch scratched.

It's a good move nonetheless. At least he was honest that he was too far down the rabbit hole and wouldn't want to dig an even deeper grave for himself with gambling. Props to him cutting off his ties with gambling and living a completely clean life without degeneracy.

And guys, guess who's back?
News: Chinese Dota 2 legend Ame returns to pro play with Xtreme Gaming

Who is excited to see Ame in the pro scene again? I know that most of the fans here including me wanted him to see reunite with his former gang in LGD. Currently, Xtreme Gaming is just composed of two player, him and DY. For sure that there are arrangements already and we'll need to wait further about their announcement on who are the other three players that will be added to the roster.

Ame has retired for a couple of times now and just comes back to Dota every so often. The guy is restless until he wins that elusive TI trophy. I still watch some of his games every so often and he's still as crisp on pos 1 as he was during his tenure with LGD. I'm not sure whether a complete comeback of the former LGD crew is possible with him joining to Xtreme Gaming. Dy is a good familiar teammate to him, and hopefully Xtreme Gaming posts some good wins at the start of the year leading up to TI.
544  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you wrap up your gambling session? on: December 11, 2023, 07:04:37 PM
I'd rather leave immediately and never come back rather than contemplate on the session and think of things that I could have done differently to score a win. I play for an hour and after that time, I leave - no looking back, no regrets, no contemplation whatsoever. This is way easier since you don't have to think what happen and you can move on for the rest of your day.
545  Economy / Economics / Re: I need financial advice for my careless uncle. on: December 11, 2023, 05:27:50 PM
Keep track of where his money goes and assess whether there are things that could come and go based on what the data looks like. Maybe this may persuade him to let go of all those socializing and extravagance once he finds out that those small expenses per day accrues to a huge number in a month or two.

We often disregard small purchases because we think that it's 'small.' What does a $2 or $3 of beer compared to $5000 anyway? Add that to 10 cans or bottles and you'd still be nowhere near $5000. Though if you look at it, that could easily go towards your gas money or whatever necessity he needs. It might even go to his kids' allowances for the week. Since he doesn't have any data he can easily look at to compare these expenses with, he'll think that he's still good since it's just a small sum anyway.

I myself used to eat out every night because I'm tired after a long day's work. I never really factored in the fact that eating at restaurants or fast food every night will amount to $100 per week, when it could easily be just below $40, and I'd still be eating good and healthy food. After realizing that I'm not saving enough compared to my salary, plus the fact that I live alone and only need to feed and clothe myself, I began keeping track of what I spent, and I'm just surprised that I'm spending $400 a month in a third-world country wherein food shouldn't be this cheap for an individual.

Do not come to your uncle with hostility regarding his situation. Let him see the numbers for himself and he'll easily realize that booze and women cost a lot of money that could have gone to another thing that could help his family.
546  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are you Spending more or less money on Casino this Holiday season on: December 11, 2023, 04:56:55 PM
Lots of marketers actually urge people to spend more during the holiday season. Even casinos have their own tactics in forcing us to spend without even telling us directly to spend. They run these different promotions to lure you in, making you think you're getting insane value off of your money when in reality it's just them trying to tease you off of that 'good deal.'

I'll be spending less this holiday season in gambling, not because I'm trying to save money but rather, I have no time to play anyways. I still hit the casino every now and then when I have the time, but I still don't go over my budget trying to crunch the playing time I can get while I still am not committed to any social gatherings or vacation plans.

Sports betting, perhaps I'll stop it in the meantime as there are no good games anyway, and I can't really keep track of the games due to me traveling often until February.
547  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you believe you can win on sports betting by analyzing a betting lines only? on: December 11, 2023, 05:00:38 AM
In a way, you can do that, but that means you will blindly trust what was served in front of you and not do anything on your end to analyze who you'll be betting with. Though the lines offered by bookies really are the odds of a team to win as observed by other bookies, there are still some minor details that can really help you make a decision on who to bet. Injuries sometimes are not taken into account last minute by bookies, and the only way to know that is to do a little bit of research before locking in your bets. That can make or break a team's game, and you wouldn't know that info based on odds alone.
548  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gamblers should not believe in first game win trap on: December 10, 2023, 05:51:00 PM
No matter how much you try to warn newbie gamblers, they'd still believe that beginner's luck carries on and they are destined to win a lot of games just because they won the first time. Winning something releases feel good hormones which is addicting, and those who can't control these urges tend to chase this feeling because it is already embedded in their brains. It's just like doing something you deem as fun, and because you are enjoying it, you keep on coming back to it.

I guess the best advice is that those who gamble should keep track of how much they spent on gambling and that they take things easy. It's something that will claw through you every now and then and you'll give in because you're feeling lucky.
549  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Has anyone here started with a decent bankroll in sports? on: December 10, 2023, 04:13:33 PM
The most 'decent' bankroll I have had for sports was in The International 2022. I had $500 allocated for that particular event and I had a win-rate of 57% and profited at least $300 as I went hard on the decider match for the finals between Secret and Liquid. After that, I went on and off on sports and just bet on things that I like, and never really had a bankroll to begin with. The most I've bet on recent times is $50, though I've lost it yet I'm still in the greens. Haven't bet on anything since but was glad that I took it easy while I'm still in the positive.

Keeping track of everything in a spreadsheet is nice. Gamblers who are serious to make money off of it should consider creating one for themselves to ensure that they are not spending more than they can really stomach.
550  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Who should quit, and why? on: December 10, 2023, 01:14:34 PM
I'm a product of this kind of familial relationship, and I'll tell you that it's not pretty.

My mom and dad were both gamblers who develop this habit when I was in 3rd grade. At first, they were just spending very minimal amounts in the gambling house and still manage to take us to fancy restaurants and a treat every so often. After a couple of years, both of them started hiding money from each other, up to the point that we're neglected of our needs so long as they can gamble. It was something awful, they never taught us how to gamble, but we know that they do it every night.

The children are the most affected of this setup. They don't know that this is what's happening behind the scenes, and most of the time, they don't know the reason why they cannot go to school or cannot get food that they used to have before. Thankfully, I didn't develop into a gambling addict like them, and I still know how to control my finances. If I were to marry someone, I might give up gambling just because I don't want it to take up time that I could be spending with my family, and not because I'm scared of losing control.
551  Economy / Economics / Re: How to be more effective working remotely. on: December 07, 2023, 11:27:46 PM
I'll be starting to work from home on the first week of 2024  and I'm starting to hate it. While I'm typically not a sociable person, I still find it easier to work in an environment where I see a couple of dudes chatting or doing their work. I opted to work 4 days at home and 1 day at the office just to keep my sanity. Working from home might be comfortable, but it sure does remove productivity when you're someone who's easily distracted by anything. Also, time tends to run a lot slower when you're at home so you'll have to really lock in to your work and exert more effort to be focused on your tasks at hand.

So far, I think the pros outweighs the cons of being at home to work for the common worker, but humans are social beings, and physical interactions are way better than having to chat or video call someone. It will get old pretty fast, and you have to work extra hard to keep your pace steady.
552  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Jamie Dimon said he would close Bitcoin down if he was in government on: December 07, 2023, 10:48:11 PM
Dude's a complete ass when it comes to bitcoin and crypto in general. He's never really changed his stance when it comes to bitcoin, and thinks that it's the only asset that works 'against' the government through money laundering, scams, etc. It's obvious that he'll prefer fiat over bitcoin as this guy is a banker, and a CEO of a large bank at that. Of course, if people were to switch into crypto, he'll be losing his business and he doesn't want that to happen obviously.
553  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is the only currency that has grown the most!! on: December 07, 2023, 10:07:42 PM
Most altcoins don't really have the community and the financial backing to stay afloat for a long period of time. Bitcoin has been here since 2009, and made a lot of millionaires that now support the overall project. It has also started the trend of money digitization in ways we can only imagine before that a lot of countries now hoping to replicate.

Altcoins, too, can see the same amount of growth in a short span of time. The thing is, can it sustain it? No, and as initial investors of the said coin already profited enough, they'll plan their exit and watch as poor souls who actually believed the project cry out for help holding their bags. This has never happened with bitcoin, even though there were tons of fear-mongering related to its price for years on end.
554  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mixers - Are we the product? on: December 07, 2023, 09:55:12 PM
Like the traditional money laundering schemes, they do need a front to look legit and 'clean' in a lot of ways (albeit being loud of what they actually do).

They wanted clean coins to trade with their dirty ones in order to continue their operations in the darknet. They cater to customers that 'actually wants to stay hidden,' while the rest of us clearnet folks use mixers because we think it saves us our privacy.

Personally, I think those who wish to mix their coins are still fine with using exchanges and converting to another currency and sending it out to another completely unrelated address. It shows the trail, but it cuts off after the currency was exchanged to another one. Sure, the exchange might have it, but if you are a regular user not really looking to launder money using small amounts, what reason do these exchanges have to report you to authorities anyway?

I've been a fan of mixers before, but now that I understand that this is all just a front for criminals to get a taste of freshly minted coins in exchange for their tainted ones, I'm trying to stay away from them as much as possible.
555  Economy / Economics / Re: Do brands that take sides on divisive issues lose market share? on: December 07, 2023, 09:34:05 PM
Yes, they do. The current generation's consumer is driven mostly by emotions and their beliefs on the brands that they choose. If brand A expresses its support to idea B, then consumers will immediately boycott it because they believe in idea C that is a complete opposite of what idea B is all about. It's just nuts, but then again, the consumers drive sales and profit, so they have to ride that wave.

Also, consumers expect companies to take sides in a rather light issue most of the time, but smart companies usually just stay silent on the issue and pretend they aren't hearing or seeing things in order to not get cancelled and still get the market share of both sides of the issue. I think companies that are numb and mindless against current social issues usually do well compared to those who take sides and push forward with it. That's what big companies are doing, and they are still posting great revenues every year.

The current generation is highly opinionated even if their opinions don't mean shit to an issue that is going on. As triggered as I am to these young ones of today, I have to understand that they are also consumers that drive huge sales to a lot of things that are in trend, which actually is a huge reason why I am paid good money by my current employer.
556  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Inoue vs Tapales for Unified Super Bantamweight Title - December 26 on: December 07, 2023, 09:00:33 PM
It looks like the fight between those two is a match, but I bet on Inoue there, because I see more strong potentials that he will win over his opponent. Although I'm not saying that he will compete against a weak opponent.

Since Inoue easily beat Donaire in their 2nd fight and clearly he has improved a lot in that fight and also visible in his last fight as well, the fans have no confidence in Tapales anymore and this should be his main motivation to excel in his training and surprise everyone that underestimate him. Though it's hard to believe that he can actually beat Inoue, he has the chance and it could be his way to have another fight against him and it will surely be a great benefit for him because of the huge payment they will get. This should be his aspiration for his determination to win this fight is really needed.

Of course, a fighter has always that kind of motivation and that's what fuel the best in this sports. Even Canelo mentions that in every new fight of him. He has to shut down his detractors with a great win and proved that he still has it.

In this case though, many have underestimated Tapales not because he is the more known fighter between the two. He is a huge underdog because he is facing on the best super bantamweight that we have seen in the last 10 years that clearly dominate another great champion in this division in Fulton and then simply clean up the bantamweight division before moving up.
Inoue fans wont really be that increasing in numbers if Inoue's performance is shit, but if we do try to look out with those KO percentage and being undefeated then it cant really be denied that he would really be getting up that kind of recognition and popularity on boxing fans all over the world. Basically boxing fans would really be sticking into those highly favorite and we do always have that so called underdog in every matches.
This what make things that interesting on making some bet if we do speak about gambling on which it isnt really that something a shocking thing that people would be sticking into those favorite
but we know that there are people who would really be that planning to throw up some bucks to Tapales considering the odds were pretty good and there are ones who are really that
confident that Tapales might be able to get this upset.

I've seen some people bet big bucks on Tapales as they said that the odds will get lower the closer we are to the date of the fight. I know it's a shot in the dark but it's still possible that Tapales might snatch this win off of Inoue. Then again, when it comes to skill and overall punching power, Inoue is just levels above Tapales, that I think betting huge money on the Filipino to ride the odds is just insanity.

A low to medium bet seems to be apt for the matchup if you just want to watch the fight and get something to be excited with. But anything over a few hundred dollars is, IMO, just a waste.
557  Economy / Economics / Re: Idea and money are very important to investment. on: December 07, 2023, 08:34:28 PM
Do not forget to back your idea up with a solid research, because there is a huge possibility that your idea may have been already studied by other people, it's just that you haven't cone across it yet or haven't done any prior research to it. Or perhaps your investment idea really is novel, but hard to execute since there isn't any data to back its viability up. Whatever the case is, you still need luck all in all. It's what make or break investments and everything in general.
558  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling and Behavioral Change!!! on: December 07, 2023, 07:13:18 PM
For the last few years that I was gambling, I haven't noticed any significant changes on my behavior at all. I'm still the same guy who responds minimally to a lot of social interactions, and still keeps a lot of things to himself. Though I have been a lot more careful on how I spend my money since I'm constantly discerning whether what I'll spend on is something worth it or something that will pass easily.

But yeah, it's natural that human behaviors shift when they are engaged in an activity such as gambling. They might carry on the irritable nature towards other people when the gambler is placed in an extremely annoying situation, or something negative in general.
559  Economy / Speculation / Re: Can anyone be a Bitcoin speculation expert? on: December 07, 2023, 06:12:10 PM
Even a broken clock is right twice a day, and this also applies to humans trying to speculate bitcoin's movement.

There are tons of 'bitcoin market analysts' out there that became known because of their predictions that came true, although people disregard the fact that they have guessed the market incorrectly many times. One such person is Tom Lee. That guy is overly bullish for years, and a lot of his predictions never came true, but he still got a cult following just because he was right a couple of times which satisfied some believers on their own predictions.

Anyway, the thing is do not bet your life savings on these speculation experts. You still have your own diligence to practice for it is your own money you are spending. Better do some research on your own and decide whether it is something worth risking your money or not.
560  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling sites and current transactions fee on: December 07, 2023, 05:55:52 PM
You do not understand the network dynamics, it appears. Binance is not the ones who impose these fees, the bitcoin network does with its current network conditions. Binance, or any other exchange for that matter, do not have any control with the fees that the network currently dictates. They simply follow these in order to make sure that your transaction gets confirmed and not get dropped, or worse, stuck in a limbo for weeks on end.

My advice: if you really want to gamble so bad, better exchange your coins to another that is accepted on your platform of choice (XRP, Litecoin, etc). This way, you'll get the most value out of your coins and not yap about the current network fee.
