541  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] IPO of MaidSafe:  Entering the Future of the Decentralized Internet on: January 24, 2015, 06:04:07 PM
I have around a BTC worth of Maidsafe in my Omni wallet. I also have like .01 or so BTC to cover the two fees (more than enough.)
I have tried for over a week to transfer those coins out and after filling out the form a popup-window appears, I click send and it just
keeps timing out (just keeps saying "sending"). This can go on for 20 minutes or more. Any ideas here?
542  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mt Gox CEO Mark Karpeles Implicated in Silk Road Trial on: January 17, 2015, 08:55:05 PM
Interesting post at the bottom of the original article mentioned in the first post:

And who was and still is controlling Karpeles? You only get one guess who is in possession of those stolen coins now and it ain't Karpeles. And the purpose of gaining control of those coins was played out in front of our eys over the past 3 days. And being the true parasites they are they let the victim live for a while longer to obfuscate their trail.

Karpeles maintains it was an inside job and the Japanese police says the same thing.

Japanese newspaper Yomiuri Shinbun quoted “sources in the Metropolitan Police Department” as saying that only 1% of the bitcoins, or about 7,000 BTC, reported missing by the exchange were lost due to cybertheft. The vast majority of the missing 650,000 bitcoins most likely disappeared “after the system was fraudulently operated by an unknown party.”

Which agency planted who at Mt Gox and was this plant the inside party that took posession of the coins? The agency that the individual worked for now controls the coins.

The emergence of decentralised crypto currencies is a threat to the established world order (money system) and if it can't be brought under control, must be destroyed.

The process is started by steadily shorting BTC's and applying selling pressure supported by shorting 'jolts' on low volume or low activity trading days like public holidays. Bots will assist by triggered resistance levels being broken followed by further selling.

Unlike Gold, there are no sovereigns to put a floor under BTC's. The same attempts were made in the Gold and Silver markets over the past 3 years+

The victim (Bitcoin) is allowed to recover - that would be the present.

The scenario will repeat itself until the mission is accomplished at a very low $ investment. Control is retained by the incumbents.

Please note: all the above is pure fiction for your entertainment only.
543  Economy / Speculation / Re: rpietila Wall Observer - the Quality TA Thread ;) on: January 14, 2015, 09:51:33 PM
Bitcoiners want to get billionaires quick with their little scheme, call noobs that are trying to get out of the mess late "greedy".

It is no secret that I sold some at $675 in 2013. The next exit zone starts earliest at $3,000, probably higher.

It is no greed to sell at a bottom, it is just stupid. Stuff is as valuable as a year ago (or more, due to more adoption, etc.), yet 75% cheaper. This is a game and you are offered 4 times better odds than last time when you took them. Instead of taking them now, or holding, you decide to fold.

If anyone becomes a billionaire with bitcoin, he deserves it. So many chances of folding were offered but he held on.

There is voice of reason in the midst of so much babbling nonsense.  Thanks Risto.  Smiley

I am having to argue a bit with BitchicksHusband a little about not folding right now though.   I guess it is hard not to get emotional.  We did have to sell some of our holdings in December but bought back a little last week.  I think the hardest thing to wrap my brain around is the fact that BTC should be so much more valuable with all of the infrastructure that has been put into place during 2014.  Why hasn't some of the money used to build this infrastructure been used to boost the price up a bit?  Aren't these companies at all concerned about BTC users getting disillusioned and leaving BTC completely?

What infrastructure? More merchants accepting bitcoin to immediately dump it via a third party payment processor is not infrastructure, it's just proof that bitcoin is not viable as a real currency. Your mistake is that you've convinced yourself that bitcoin should be worth so much more, when market forces are clearly showing you that it's not. This is how amateur investors lose fortunes. They might close a winning position some of the time, but when they find themselves in a losing position they are so emotionally committed that they can't admit they are wrong and ride it all the way down to destruction.

Merchants using Bitcoin and then "dumping it" just adds much needed liquidity. It is a clear part of the process. What do you expect merchants to do with a basically unknown new form of currency, store of wealth, etc? It takes time to find price discovery.

Perhaps you expect a government currency to become purely digital and be accepted through forced use, as is basically the case now with most currencies. There are valid reasons behind that, but enter decentralization. Remember, this is a disruptive technology, and it isn't so much about BTC but rather what it is slowly going to infiltrate, Trojan Horse, and disable.  Grin
And please give this currency more than 5 years to function. 5 years and still being around on the net is INCREDIBLE. It speaks for itself.

Many of us here are not "investors", we are people looking to make the world a better place. And we can start by having sound money that isn't inflated away so that governments can start war after war. Turning this planet around, at least in the short to midterm means WE HAVE TO GET RID of the corrupt money and banking systems still stealing our wealth in any form possible.

Some times you have to go with your heart, not your mind. And sometimes both, as with BTC.

Its about sharing, not attacking (again)

Don't forget he's also a September 11 "troother". There was another thread a few months ago where he shared some of his batshit crazy theories.

So to anyone who follows risto.. ask yourselves... "Should I be taking financial advise from a 9/11 troother was was admitted to a mental institution against his own will? If I told my spouse or friends about this, would they approve?" I'm guessing the answer is... NO.

You trying to see how many logical Fallacies you can put into a few sentences?  Cheesy

Guilt by Association & Red Herring--Introducing a topic not related to the subject at hand.
911 Truther? You mean questioning the government makes one a Truther? LOL. Heck, all of us should be so. Come to think of it, there are hundreds of architects and engineers questioning the government as well. http://www.ae911truth.org/about.html  If you even vaguely investigate what the government said happened that day AND you believe it, I've got a bridge to sell ya.

Poisoning the Well (--Presenting negative information about a person before he/she speaks so as to discredit the person's argument.)
Risto having been in a mental institution, when you look at the number (or should I say large %) of Americans on anti depressants, is not exactly a "case closed" argument regarding your opinion of him.

545  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: rpietila Altcoin Observer on: December 29, 2014, 08:11:57 PM
What is behind the ripple rise recently?

Something about a huge deal with RBS?

I won't buy into the ATH, but will keep my eye out for a pullback.  Ripple has at least a couple of top shelf devs under their roof.

No, there was no deal with RBS.  There was a hackathon at RBS in which some contestants from RBS integrated XRP into one of their FX platforms, whereupon XRP started on a tear.  It was done for a contest, for show, and not as a product, for use.  Now XRP (and STR) will return to their normal death throes.

I don't agree with the principles behind STR and XRP, but at least they are somewhat disruptive to the existing system albeit a servant to them. Not anywhere on the same order as BTC and such, those are replacements.

STR/XRP is probably going to be valuable to the existing financial system, it is a simple cost savings. A mid or long term "investment". I do see some of the banking system integrating it and if it
saves them money (cutting out clearance fees and such), I just see others to follow. But in time, what happens to BTC and the others? We all got that part down.

They still rise and apply more pressure to the existing system. One can argue in a sense that STR/XRP are mini-Trojan Horses, where as BTC is the mother of them all. So, perhaps STR/XRP are just softening up the banking system to give BTC more free reign.  Grin

Whatever happens it is certainly going to get more interesting. I think we are close to having some killer apps for BTC and gaining more global acceptance. Maybe 2015 starts to give us more traction globally. The space is still moving fast but it really comes down to retailers. If BTC is going to save them money, they start accepting it.

Any word on the investigation, arrests, etc?

547  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Moolah Scam on Mintpal - MintpalJustice.com - Report Missing Funds on: November 11, 2014, 05:54:37 PM
The address is not where he lives, it was a business registration address.

The authorities are in contact with him now, it's not like he's in dubai or something.

We just need to be patient, these things can take time.

Great to hear. Hopefully they at least start sending what they have access to.
548  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Moolah Scam on Mintpal - MintpalJustice.com - Report Missing Funds on: November 08, 2014, 05:12:10 PM
Hi, just like most you I was a mintpal victim, managed to get a few coins out, but still have a lot XMR there. The problem with XMR getting out, was I wasn't sure what to fill in regarding address and payment id/destination tag. Mintpal only offered the possibility to fill in the address, there was no option to fill in a destination tag. How did you guys solve this.
I am aware that it is probably all a bit too late, but still am curious

I have quite a few XMR there also. I just put in the payment ID (supplied by Poloniex) in the notes section (as I don't have a wallet on my computer).
Note - For a personal wallet, you don't need a payment ID, just the address.
549  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Mintpal / Moolah Scam - 5,200 BTC Now Missing!!! - Report Missing Funds on: October 27, 2014, 12:03:05 PM
Do someone-team plan on taking legal action against Mintpal owners ?

Who run Mintpal twitter account ?

Syscoin team is taking legal action against them

A few people from the old team are trying to help with the withdrawal of the coins that never made it to the wallets at V2.

V2 Mintpal is 100% under control of Ryan/Alex.
V1 is not.

And Syscoin team is taking legal action against Ryan/Alex/Moolah, not V1 Mintpal.

That is good news. So I might actually get my XMR back?
On the other hand are "rumors" of the XMR dumping that took place, which makes sense, but it just could have been regular holders worrying Moolah was going to dump on them,
and they beat the "never to come dump" to market.

Thx,
IAS
550  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin is officially dead on: October 24, 2014, 02:05:18 PM
Well, LTC is following BTC down pretty much and I do think there will be a coin to overtake LTC in time, probably an anonymous coin or something that really adds value.

However, with that said, we need to consider that LTC has a very strong network and 2.0 coins that ride shotgun on BTC, like Counterparty, can always use the LTC network
as well (heard this on LTBTC podcast). So, I may not see LTC as being successful the way we know it to be, but I do think it might still take off once this bear market ends...
551  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Mintpal / Moolah Scam - 5,200 BTC Now Missing!!! - Report Missing Funds on: October 21, 2014, 04:48:28 PM
Hey guys, can anyone please answer one question. When i log in to what is left of mintpal, i dont have any REQUEST withdrawal link, all i have is that ridiculous text box and nothing else. Could it be its because i have only XMR and BTC outstanding ballance or what?
I see alot of you guys have links to withdrawal pages, i dont, whats wrong?

I was given both a withdrawal ID and message field and I only have XMR there. I am a bit mixed up on this in general, some people say they just got coins, is it JUST the BTC that Moolah got away with?
Is there hope for those of us with alts?
552  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 20, 2014, 06:51:21 PM
Selling my 5000 XMR mintpal account .

PM offers or skype me: thestatdude

Man I'm sorry.  They said XMR withdrawels would resume soon ...

Moolah seems to be MIA: https://twitter.com/MintPalExchange/status/523939006988701696

Mintpal said that Ryan has control of the funds. But this sounds like money to me and not all tokens. I do believe they sent out some tokens, not BTC though...
A decent chunk of money for me is there. I honestly would never have put the funds there if I had been able to get the wallet installed on my MAC but it
has been a headache for me. Then again, I would have bought more XMR had I been able to install the wallet (and the price has gone down since then)...
Looking forward to the GUI (with .dmg installation  Grin )
553  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Mintpal / Moolah Scam - 5,200 BTC Now Missing!!! - Report Missing Funds on: October 19, 2014, 04:59:19 PM
This might be a bit of a stretch but does anyone else think that MintPal's Jason & Jay should be held responsible to some extent? Precautions should have been in place to protect existing users from shit like this. They sold the company in the drop of a hat (along with all our user balances) and there wasn't fuck all any of us could do about it. Their lack of foresight and consideration has costed many of us money.

Not a stretch if you can show negligence, intent, etc. I am curious how much and how he paid, that might be telling. The whole transaction on to today is probably filled with clues of his, and maybe their, wrongdoing.
554  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Moolah/Mintpal V2.0 Scam Thread on: October 18, 2014, 10:06:21 AM
Just checking, has anyone received their XMR (Monero) yet?
I updated their withdrawal page with my payment address and put in the payment ID under the notes section (as I can't get a wallet going on my computer.)
555  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Mintpal / Moolah Bankruptcy and Missing Coins - 412 BTC Reported Missing on: October 18, 2014, 10:01:17 AM
Things are looking pretty bad, 750BTC taken from syscoin @Mintpal!

https://twitter.com/syscoin

That is for a non payment of services, they weren't "taken". Since they are filing bankruptcy, I imagine they won't get the coins. But, if the courts find illegal action involved (which they might), then they will have to pay them. At this point, they owe actual coins to people still (me included) and think that will more likely be handled first (as it is ongoing right now).
556  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: October 17, 2014, 05:43:33 PM
I can't get the wallet to install from source on my MAC and I don't like running it otherwise.
So, I need to give Mintpal my Poloniex address with Payment ID...
But thanks for the suggestion.

You don't have to install from source on Mac. If you on Mavericks.

https://github.com/sammy007/homebrew-cryptonight

You can build from source or use precompiled binaries. Just read README.

I am going to create bottles (binaries) for Yosomite later today, but I need time to install new SSD and Yosomite on my Mac.

Thanks a lot for posting that. As usual, I couldn't get it to work.  Huh
I did follow the directions (including downloading the large blockchain.bin file."

I ran this command after installation: simplewallet --generate-new-wallet wallet.bin
Got this error:
Code:
bitmonero wallet v0.8.8.4-unknown
password: ********************
Segmentation fault: 11

I ran it again and it said: Error: failed to generate new wallet: file already exists "wallet.bin"
I noticed files were created though and I backed up my "wallet.bin.address.txt" address.
I ran the "simplewallet" command and got this: Error: failed to load wallet: file not found ".keys"
But, the "wallet.bin.keys" file exists.

BTW - Is there a handy reference for commands that can be run? Didn't see that in the README.

Now I get this from running "simplewallet"
Code:
bitmonero wallet v0.8.8.4-unknown
Specify wallet file name (e.g., wallet.bin). If the wallet doesn't exist, it will be created.
Wallet file name: wallet.bin
password: ********************
simplewallet(20000,0x7fff7caf2310) malloc: *** error for object 0x7fff7ce10c70: pointer being freed was not allocated
*** set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug
Abort trap: 6

If these errors jump out at anyone I would appreciate it. If not, I will wait for a DMG file.

still mintpal won let get back XMR from them

I haven't gotten any new updates or deposits into my requested address either.  I want to send mine into Poloniex, so I put my Withdrawal address and my Payment ID in the USER NOTES box.

Keeping my fingers crossed that they get that information and send it correctly.   Roll Eyes

I was going to post this question, the Payment ID is KEY, but you should probably put the withdrawal address in the withdrawal address field and the Payment ID under User Notes?
Anyone?

Thanks,
IAS

I ended up creating a personal wallet address. You don't need a payment ID to send that way.

I can't get the wallet to install from source on my MAC and I don't like running it otherwise.
So, I need to give Mintpal my Poloniex address with Payment ID...
But thanks for the suggestion.

a masive dump on polo, whole orderbook down to 25 btc!!

Thing is, it wasn't just XMR, it was most every coin that Polo has that MintPal also had.

That is interesting, in other words, not giving any thieves a place to dump a lot of coins. I really hope the Mintpal thing works out and we get our coins back.

I really wonder if the "owners" of Mintpal are dumping our XMR on Poloniex. I had quite a few coins there that I hope to get back but I wonder if they were already sold.
Awfully suspicious for the website to be down after a spontaneous upgrade for a week, and then they file bankruptcy. They say we have till the end of the month to withdraw funds.
