I want to get level3 verified and have too give a utilitybill of some sort in jpeg or jpg. Can you please allow pdf files?

Yeah, noticed that too. I just downloaded a PDF to JPG converter for free. But it would make sense to accept PDF files.

Hello

I'm stuck with same Jalapeno 7GHs for europe

I don't find the option to convert for hosted mining, where is it?

I forget exactly but it was easy to find in my account. Just click on your order and there should be an upgrade and transfer option. Click upgrade, if memory serves me, and it should be the bottom of 3 options.
1363  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: BFL - Change your never to arrive order to "Mining by the GH" (Hosted) on: October 12, 2013, 08:41:50 PM
Not good!
http://mining.thegenesisblock.com/a/3d3c9aecaa

So bad even if they start in january.
Well you'r screwed either way!
With your Jally you can always try to mine some other sha256 altcoins.
I have 60gh single order from May 12 and I'll stick to that!

Yes, screwed either way.  Cry

But, at least now I don't have to go to customs and pay more money.
My bet is February or March on hashing.
BTC still pays better than the other coins to mine. I just checked.

The next hope is that BFL will up the hashing as I just don't see them selling much due to their pricing and huge loss of customers from the ongoing debacle.

1364  Economy / Speculation / Re: Chinese exchange volume higher than Mtgox on: October 12, 2013, 07:59:55 PM
Another point most of you do not aware is that Chinese BTC exchanges have the best integration with fiat transfer system. Transferring fiat in and out is the biggest headache for many bitcoin exchanges (see MtGox). In China, however, it is completely painless. Taking btcchina, the biggest exchange as example. Users can transfer fiat from any major Chinese bank to the exchange instantly with zero fee. Therefore, depositing BTC is literally faster than depositing bitcoin.

To withdraw, only 0.5% is deducted and in most cases it will arrive in 24 hours. No daily limit. No AML or KYC. All you need are accounts of any major Chinese bank and Tenpay (the Chinese version of Paypal).

(However, this is China, which means the government policy could change overnight)

Then, it is quite surprising the volume isn't even higher.

Could you imagine if it was that easy to get BTC in American, Europe, etc. what would happen to the volume?
Perhaps the storm is just getting started in China...
1365  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Power Supply Question on: October 12, 2013, 06:11:21 PM
Modern pc Power Supply's is ATX12V.
You need old (very old, and in this case definitely used) Power Supply's for AT computers . 250 watt have near 25A , 5 v line.

Interesting and cheap solution. The problem is that the miners use 24pin ATX connectors and those old connectors are 20 pin I think.
I think these old PS's are pretty loud though (this will be in the living room.)
Still a good solution, thx.

1366  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Power Supply Question on: October 12, 2013, 04:58:26 PM
The choice of having the boards run at 5V is horribly bad.  I can't believe it was even considered.

The problem is that most ATX PSU today only produce 12V "natively.  To meet the ATX spec they then use very tiny DC to DC converters to convert some of the 12V into 5V or 3.3V.  There are two problems with this.  The first is to save cost the max load on those rails are usually tiny something like 100W or less.  Also they often don't increase with PSU size.  So a 500W PSU might be 100W max on 5V rail and a 1200W PSU from the same company is still only 500W on the 5V rail.  The second is that efficiency at 5V is going to be lower due to the double conversion.   At first this might seem like a bad choice but the reality is that on a modern computer 90% to 100% of the load is 12V.  So making the 12V rail as powerful and efficient is the best route.

The problem with dedicated 5V devices like the meanwell is that they tend to have bad efficiency.  The unit you listed is 77% avg efficiency.   A cheapo 80Plus Bronze PSU will be 82% to 85%.  The other problem with 5V is it means higher current for the same amount of power.   125W @ 5V is 25A.  125W @ 12V is only 11A.   Higher current means larger (or more) wires, more voltage drop, more power lost in the wires.

There is a third option and that is a high efficiency 12V to 5V converter.   This could be put close to the ASIC module(s) to limit the length of the 5V runs.   I need to run to a wine festival but I will see if I can find an example this evening.

If at all possible I would they would reconsider the input power choice.  It isn't like the ASICs are running at 5V o they are already converting from 5V to ~1V anyways.  Swapping that component out for one which converts from 12V to 1V will make it a better device.

Wow, that was very informative. Thanks so much and I look forward to your further response.

Something to consider, as I mentioned already, is for noobs like me, just plugging an ATX PS in has an advantage over the dedicated device (which must be custom wired).

Thanks again,
IAS
1367  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / BFL - Change your never to arrive order to "Mining by the GH" (Hosted) on: October 12, 2013, 04:53:55 PM
Not sure if anyone noticed it but you can change your order at Butterfly Labs (for free) to "Mining by the GH". Jan/Feb start date. (I know, don't say it.  Cheesy )
https://products.butterflylabs.com/homepage-new-products/1-gh-cloud-hosted-bitcoin-hashing-power.html
You can essentially transfer the value of your order to hosted Mining at the rate of $10.83 per GH. (No fee)

This is about $1 more per Gh than their 300Ghash/s card and $2 more per GH than their 600Ghash/s card.

I know there are better prices out there, but if you are trapped in your order it might be better to take a chance here. Depending on your shipping fee, perhaps to have 8X the GHash/s for the same price hosted.
This is also a savings for others who are out of the US as you won't have to pay any customs.
E.g. - For me, it is just over 450 bucks shipped to Europe (plus another 100 in customs, so say 550 total for a 7Ghash/s Jalapeno) or 42 or so Ghash/S hosted. I'll take that chance.

Just an idea and curious on what you all think,

Could it be due to only having a load on the 12V rail? Havent read the entire thread, but assuming your mining rig didnt go up in flames yet, perhaps you can try connecting a hdd to the PSU to put some load on the 5V.
(note: AFAIK, most 3.5" desktop drives use both 12v and 5v, but to be sure, if you have a 2.5" drive or something else that uses 5V, use that).

Most high end modern PSU no longer need any load on the 5V or 3.3V rails.   They rectify the AC and produce all the output on the 12V rail.  If their is some 5V or 3.3V load it isn't produced by AC power they just use low cost solid state DC to DC conversion to convert some of the 12V power into 5V or 3.3V power.

Honestly there is absolutely no reason that ATX isn't updated to be 12V only.  Nothing runs at 5V or 3.3V anyways.   It sure would make the connectors and PSU design simpler and more efficient.

Hey D&D, now that you mention it, there is actually a reason to run something at 5V. Would you mind giving your opinion here? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=309687.0
Much appreciated for my hardware power supply "issue".
Anyone feel free to chime in.
1369  Economy / Speculation / Re: Chinese exchange volume higher than Mtgox on: October 12, 2013, 10:48:41 AM
Looks like a combination of things, Gox's volume is dropping, Stamps is increasing (along with BTCChina).
Actually, volume lately seems a bit low anyway. Silk Road related?

Keep an eye on things here: http://bitcoincharts.com/markets/

IAS

Volume just seems low because of the decentralisation process of exchanges, I think the market has to get used to less average volume per exchange. If you combine the volume of all exchanges it's not that bad, about 70-80k BTC have trades hands globally during the last 24h on the exchanges. Volatility is also low so you naturally have lower volume during those times. Once the market picks up a real trend up or down volume will skyrocket.

That is actually a great point and I should have considered that. Are there any totals as I didn't see where to get your figure of 70-80k?

Considering, we are witnessing a healthy redistribution of the exchanges. Would be nice to see a summary based on country. Anywhere? (Currency would do the same as many exchanges use dollars.)

How are folks pulling out? Didn't they prepay their orders?

Yes, all orders are prepayed. I mentioned to this person that pulling out now is quite damaging to us, but he insisted he had no other choice. I'm not going to hold someones money to ransom. But yeah, horrible timing. So... who wants them?  Smiley

Perhaps auctioning them and only pay out (refund) what you get, up to what a person paid (beyond that, you get). It doesn't seem fair that you (and to an extent us) are penalized for someones withdrawal. (And I know there are valid reasons here, not judging). It just seems the risk should be shared to a point.
1371  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: October 12, 2013, 10:37:57 AM
i called knc yesterday asking why there is no payout for my knc hosted jupiters. the said they are all running very bad, none over 100 Gh/s. this morning i changed to eligius to check how the are doing:

average of 536 Gh/s . someone must have been busy there.  Smiley

eligius started paying out after 90 min. why didnīt kncpool ever ? did anyone of the knc hosted customers get regular payout, or -like in my case - compensation only ?

That is great news. Hopefully they have the firmware thing under control. And perhaps the PS "issue" as well...

1373  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Power Supply Question on: October 12, 2013, 09:52:10 AM
Hey Guys,

Wonder if some of you knowledgable with Power Supply's can answer some question for me (and our GB) please?

I'm going to be having a Drill Bit mini plane with 4 boards coming in a few weeks. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=266235.0

It is not real clear which power supply we should use as the boards use only the 5V side. A 4 board (8 chips X 4) setup is going to use around 80 - 100 or 120 watts (normal to overclocked) and need around 20-25 amps.

A few problems we are looking at:
1 - Not all mid range (450-650w) PS's give the needed amperage (Cutting it close maybe). And when you go up above this range, I'd imagine the 5V efficiency takes a dive.
2 - Not all mid range PS's give more than 100 watts at 5V. (Again maybe cutting it close)
3 - Not sure if running all the 5V and next to none of the 12 V (maybe a fan here) is inefficient or the like? (I don't see this in reviews as who runs just the 5V channel of a PS?)

Maybe a custom wired 5V only PS like this would be better (and just use a 5V fan), if one could do the wiring? http://www.meanwell.com/search/sp-150/default.htm
(This is a 70 buck or so PS, pretty much the mid range, price wise of PS's in general.)

The GB leader mentioned this, if it helps:
Quote
All the 5V pins are connected in the ATX. Standard ATX24 pin layout. Recommended to connect to all 5V pins to support the current.
All grouund pins in the ATX connector are connected. Recommended to use all ground pins to connect.
Estimated that each 8 board will consume up to 5A max, unconfirmed. Will need to test with hashing.
Using a 5V 25A power per miniplane you should be good but need to test the hashing first.
Running at lower hash rate will reduce the power consumption.
Any stable regulated 5V supply should be OK. So its OK to have a converter going from the 12V from an ATX to make 5V for the boards.

Once the test units are hashing we'll know the power requirements exactly, but the above is pretty much a close range.

Any ideas guys? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
IAS

Shhh...
don't scare the flock
I just bought back in and am feeling jittery as is
last moves
sold 127
bought 88
sold 113
bought 125

and In very unsure what to do before I go to bed tonight

Just take it like a man, if it goes down it will be a couple bucks not a crash. Also China has woken up big time and are taking over the lead from the US.

This is now the wild card in all this. This is like the equivalent of HUGE news, almost like insider info. Will be interesting to see if their buying continues.
There is no float when you think about it. Current prices can't support China getting involved at all.

I wonder why there is no HUGE premium (no premium at all actually) on Bitcoins in China though? Arbitrageurs must work overhours.

I haven't actually checked the price, just noticed the volume. Really, the bigger question should be the volume. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. (Not that you are)

Not sure what you are getting at but obviously they are not doing lots of "selling" as the price hasn't been going down there.

The bid depth is now scary as hell!

Huh? Scary in which sense. i286 shows 2500 coins down to 121 USD (from 126.7 where we are now). For bitstamp, which in the past has been more of a "seller's exchange" that's a pretty good depth actually.

Or did I misunderstand what you meant by "scary"?

Right now, there is 4000 coins to 121. Some one must have put a large order up since you posted that...

I would imagine that if KNC is sure the problem is in the firmware, they are still running the assembly lines. IF that is the case, then they can probably ship the units quite quickly.

Any word on the production lines still going or ?

ehheheh, the thought had crossed my mind. Anyway, hope they still got production running but if not then the problems are not isolated imo.

I'd personally not want  to keep switching between coins but find one and stick with it. Ideas?
