I was told that the size of the h-boards is likely to grow, so I built-in a lot of expandability into this case/tray.  There are two possible locations for mounting fans (shown with both, but more likely you would choose either/or location):

Of course this could easily be built longer/wider to accommodate more boards.   Grin

There will also be a slightly different version for those not using m-boards.  Wink

Comments/suggestions are welcome.

Great (and simple) design! Thanks for sharing. Any idea on price/plans? (Where are you shipping from?)
Some questions for you:
As suspected the 120X120mm fans fit one 4 unit miner nicely. I'm looking at the Scythe Gentle Typhoons and they come in 500, 800, 1450 and 1850 rpm models. I think the 1850 adjusted down (if need be) might be optimal. 1- Any thoughts here or recommended speed? 2- How can we, or can we, control the speed of the fans (CGminer/Raspberry Pi?) (The Gentle Typhoons I am looking at come with 3 and 4 pin moly connectors/adapters.)

Appreciated,
IAS

ps - Guys looking for power supplies, if you can't find that coolermaster mentioned on the prior page, strongly consider the Super Flower Golden Green at 400w as it is very efficient and quiet and light to mid loads. (4-12 miners imo). It is gold plus and around 60 - 70 bucks.
1442  Economy / Speculation / Re: Difficulty +30% in about 3h on: September 26, 2013, 06:45:01 PM
So, if we go up every 10 days by 30% in difficulty, we might see this: (My numbers are a bit low, started with 145 million)
October 6 - 188.5 million
October 16- 245.05 "
October 26- 319 "
November 2 - 414 "

This sure makes things interesting.

I just don't think we will see it personally. I think things will slow down... or I hope so.  Grin

Thank you for this jspielberg !

So am I correct, that if I order one KNC Jupiter right now and it´s really shipped in November, I´m not getting my ROI, right?
That means I could buy 10 or 100 of them (if I had a millon dollar) and still lose?

So what´s the deal here?

KNC has already told some Jupiter orders that they will ship with 500 Ghash/s and not 400. Not sure if that changes your ROI but still a nice gesture (especially compared to BFL - "But For Loss")

I'm curious though, any other sites for good mining profitiability calculators? They are all over the place.

Enjoyed watching some of your videos. Nice Candle interpretations.
Hopefully we can break up and out of the forming triangle/pennant...

Is anyone interested in getting a combined rate for P & P to UK? PM me if yes.

I just got a pm for the same thing. I'm not in the UK (I'm in Germany) but something to consider is that customs (here) is pretty picky with electronics.
And, they are pretty picky with invoices and such. If you bring in an invoice, it needs to be for everything (not just your miner). If it isn't, they can give you a very hard time.
In other words, you want all the miners on one invoice. This then, brings up legal things. Not a bad idea to save money, but it could complicate things.

I'm not saying not to do this, just saying it might not be smooth if you are going to ship things further on. Something to think about anyway. If someone has done this before,
it might help those looking to do it, by sharing your experiences.

Respectfully,
IAS

Is there any recommended power supply yet?

Ideally one that has high efficiency at low loads (sub-100W). The Coolermaster V550S has caught my attention. Even the top-of-the-line Corsair, Seasonic and Kingwin Platinum units cannot match the efficiency of the Coolermaster unit at low loads:

* http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/CoolerMaster/V550S/6.html
* http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Corsair/AX760/6.html
* http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Seasonic/X-750/6.html
* http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Seasonic/SS-460FL_V2/6.html
* http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Kingwin/STR-500/5.html
* http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Kingwin/LZP-550/5.html

(Ctrl+F to "Efficiency at Low Loads" for each link)

And in case you're thinking at a lower wattage unit can do better: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article1246-page3.html

Maybe a pico-PSU with a high quality power brick could spring for 95% efficiency, but it'll also cost a fair bit more than the V550S, and only provide a fraction of the wattage, making it less useful for using in future projects.

BRILLIANT work! Thanks in particular for finding that Cooler Master V550S. It seems to be the King at lower loads. I am looking at the (also) partially modular Seasonic G360 as it is a GOLD unit but it's efficiency at low loads is 9% or so less and that will add up over a year+ of mining (Here in Germany it will cost me around 212 Euro a year to operate 80 watts. 9% savings equals around 19 Euro a year saved. Hmmmm...)
Here is the Seasonic G360 http://www.silentpcreview.com/article1297-page3.html
Another nice (and new unit) is the corsair RM450 (Gold class and modular). It is around 100 bucks and gets around 88% efficiency at 20% load (90 watts), not sure below that. (Cooler master is 92% at that level.) http://www.corsair.com/us/power-supply-units/rm-series-power-supply-units/rm-series-rm450-80-plus-gold-certified-power-supply.html

Question - The Cooler Master passes on voltage Ripple measurements but it isn't great. Is overclocking affected much by ripple (variations in the voltage)? I mean above a certain level you would for sure get more errors, but it is pretty tight. The Seasonic G360 appears much better (as does the Corsair RM450) in that regard but not sure at what level it starts to matter? 3%, 5%, etc...

Where can we buy a Cooler Master V550S? I don't see them in Germany or anywhere and notice the review just came out (nice find). I bet you it is an easy $100 or Euro unit. I will try to contact the company. Seems like it may be the perfect unit for our low wattage needs.

Last thing and excuse my ignorance - Which voltage will we be hooking up to (e.g., for 4 boards / 32 chips) or is that automated (I don't want to blow out a new miner)? They list 12V, 5V, 3V as standard on most power supplies.

Thanks,
IAS
1447  Economy / Auctions / Re: [Backward-Auction] 11 BitBurner XX running @ 8.8GH each on: September 24, 2013, 08:06:25 PM
Hi Sebastian,

Are these the 20 chip boards overclocked? (Non overclocked is 5.64Ghash/s). Are they stable at 8.8GH? How high have you gotten them with fans?
How much power (talking of a power supply) does one require? (A range if you remember - not overclocked and overclocked).
I'm ignorant in these areas...

Thanks,
IAS

Hey guys, here is where Barntech mentioned paying via pay pal a couple of pages back (p.48, the most recent):
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=266235.msg3187269#msg3187269

He mentioned a few pages ago that he would like us to start paying for shipping now.

Perhaps the above info should just be added to the front page. I have my question a page back as well but Barntech is doing a pretty good job. A bit hectic at the moment as I can imagine. I'm glad he has been very available to us. Look what happened with other GB's (no offense to them - just meaning when one or two guys are doing everything, it is very hard to get it all right the first time around and to always be available. And when you hire a company to take care of orders separately, the price just goes up. That hasn't happened here - still a small shop.)

Barntech/Guys&Gals

Does anyone have a suggestion on a fan to use to cool 4 boards on the backplane? (Dimensions? Brand? type? Etc?)
Like a lot of you I will be overclocking the boards and would like to add a fan to them. Would rather have the fan before the unit arrives.

So, looking for a relatively silent fan (Miners are in home) to go with my yet to be purchased silent Power Supply.  Grin

Thanks,
IAS
Not sure if it would provide enough airflow for these Bitfury chips, but I'll be trying some Nexus Real Silent 120mm fans. It's cheap, it has good static pressure considering it's moderate speed of 1100RPM, and it's pretty quiet even at full speed. SPCR has been using it as their reference 120mm fan for at least seven years now, for good reason.

http://www.silentpcreview.com/article695-page2.html#nexus

Scythe Gentle Typhoon would be another good option. Smiley

Thanks for the information. I looked up that Scythe and it looks perfect (and potentially quiet).
Questions:
- How many would one need for 4 boards with backplane? The fan is roughly 5" X 5" and not sure how big the 4 boards would be (from the side, where I think I'd put the fan to blow across boards all at once).
(edit - I found Barntech mentioned this a few pages back "102mm x102mm for the 8 board (will fit in a hdd bay)" Not sure on the spacing in between the 4 boards, but one fan might cut it, thoughts?)
- Which model (rpm's) - I see 850, 1450 and 1850. I heard you can control the speed on them with a voltage regulator but how do we do that with just a power supply? Maybe from the Raspberry pi?
- Suggestions on how to mount them near the boards?

BTW - While we are sort of on the topic of power supplies as well, a 4 card setup is only going to use 64 watts (if ran at 2 watts per chip) and maybe up to 80 watts (if ran at 2.5 watts, near max, per chip). I'm not even sure if getting a 350-400 watt power supply is too big. Most power supplies talk about efficiency at 20% (minimally). Well, a 400 watt ps would be running at 90 watts there. Can they even run this low? I don't see any 200 watt or so power supplies like I do the 350-400 watters. I like the new corsair rm450. Would run silently at this level, if it can run this low.

Thanks again for the ideas. Hopefully this helps others as well.

Hello Barntech,

I just paid .78 BTC ($95) for express shipping to Germany.
Sent signed PM and forwarded email order.

Do I still need to place the shipping order through your website or is the above enough? (Hopefully this question helps another.)
Sorry for the overkill.  Grin

I think they got caught up in the number of API request thing. Hopefully they can get it sorted out, whatever the reason.
1453  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Litecoin Price to hit $25? on: September 22, 2013, 12:10:26 PM
Just as a prelim - I think it is dangerous to rely on any one money system (Be it precious metals, Govt. Fiat, cryptocurrency, etc.) We could have a potential central point of "failure" - that can be in many many ways depending on the currency.

I think that if we had a cryptocurrency come out that really was better than Bitcoin, bitcoin would just incorporate it's advantages (if possible). If this is about developing a new money system type (in cryptocurrencies) then we shouldn't really approach this like a pure investor with a "jump ship" sort of mentality, but also look at the government, public and business aspects as well. They are not going to want to jump ship unless something really better comes out and would rather just wait for implementation imo. It basically looks like BTC is pretty close to being all that you need in a cryptocurrency, at least by todays standards, and as we need more we just add to it, rather than replace it. We need a killer app, if another cryptocurrency comes out with one, we follow it's lead.

Now, that said, I am sure there will be (and needs to be) more than one cryptocurrency. Having a few cryptocurrencies really can have it's advantages:
- It can help to avoid tax in certain situations. Where as moving from cryptocurrenies to regular fiat requires taxes if a profit was made of course (in most situations and countries). (e.g. Germany is cool in that it doesn't charge capital gains on coins held more than one year.) But moving between LTC and BTC does not require a profit/loss statement to be needed. If I'm wrong, please tell me as I'm sitting on a small loss anyway.
- Choice is involved. That means power struggles can be more easily mitigated by having options. Less fear of monopolization. We decide on what we want.
- Political - It is getting scary regarding the increasingly serious intelligence agency scandal and law breaking. All our eggs in one basket is probably not too smart. A bit of an out for people.

As far as a LTC projection. If there are 2X as many LTC's as bitcoins (for the next 5-10 years or so, depending on adoption, some increase in LTC integration following BTC, etc.), then I can imagine that LTC can be anywhere from $5-$30 or so over the next year or so (With BTC between say $100 and $300 - just a somewhat educated guess - hard to know). And it is hard to really make a prediction much beyond a few months anyway. As we really are in the eye of the hurricane with these cryptocurrencies. We are sitting relatively close to the even horizon, and we just can't see past it of course. Cryptocurrencies can potentially have HUGE effects on how we do money in the future. And that affects Governments, Institutions, People, etc. And the synergy between the internet, cryptocurrencies, raising awareness in people, etc. The changing, adding, etc. of these "variables" can have dramatic effects. Do not lose sight of the enormity that we are "sitting" on.

At this point, I think putting a small to low percentage of your BTC into LTC and/or other cryptocurrencies is both a nice hedge and investment to make.

Barntech,

The shipping graph is not yet completed for Europe. In my case for 4 Drillbit 8 boards (1200g) plus miniplane (150g) comes to 1350g. The Express shipping is 5 bucks more to Europe than USA/Canada. Would that mean $90 or so for shipping to Germany? (OR is the the same as the USA/Canadian costs? If so, just put in some "" )

Also, would be nice to have order# / queue numbers so we can tie shipping to our orders easily (and let us know where we stand in the queue.

Thanks,
IAS

erk - I couldn't either, but it is now on the website here - http://drillbitsystem.com/order.html

I've yet to find anywhere I feel comfortable registering my fiat details to exchange fiat for BTC, or those sites that look reasonable to me have weeks long processes for your first exchange, or they charge some very high fees when all I need is less than 1 BTC to pay for shipping.

If you are in Europe, I can recommend www.bitcoin.de.

Not if you are American! They won't let me trade their now.

Also, it takes a few days for the bank transfer to clear. And the prices there are high, near Gox and with lower volume.

Nice place though, just not right for quick turnarounds and cheaper coins. Maybe once they have their bank (Fidor) all ready, things will change.

I still like Stamp better, much better.

Hey there Barntech, Bobsag

Just calculated my shipping for 8 thumbs and my boards which comes to a shade over 1kg.  giving an express delivery cost of $85.  Is there an option on bobsag's site to pay just postage?

Thanks

Hey Vulgar.

Haven't got a shipping via paypal option through the Miner Source site just yet. Will have a look at getting that happening. Generally trying to keep batch one and batch two separate though. At this stage our preferred payment method for batch one postage is BTC, but if you are only able to pay via paypal, that can be arranged. We are still able to accept paypal payments directly but would very much rather not.

I can arrange btc, thats not a problem, just my take me a day or so more.

Thanks for the response, let us know when delivery payments are needed.

Will be needing delivery payments pretty soon. Want to make sure that we are all ready to go once the units are ready.

Hi Barntech,

Will delivery payments be available in both BTC and PaPal also? (I have some BTC coming in the next few days from the Avalon debacle and wondered if we have to pay with the same method as we did for the boards.)

Also, we don't have any order #'s (Queue numbers) yet. That might make it easier to tie shipping payments to our orders and also let us know where we stand in the queue.

Thanks for your hard work and availability through this. Really makes a difference.
It's about sharing

@Newar... as far as i know our chips are the next. And i didnt offer to sell assembly. I would ship the miners to everyone interested.

@francong & @Its About Sharing
In german thread someone will get a refund for 20 chips. If you francong can pay Its About Sharing for 40 and the other member meta_morph for 20 chips you would have exactly 60 chips again. I wouldnt need to be involved except telling burnin that the list i gave him changed. (Such game probably cant be played often)

Sebastian and francong - I still haven't gotten a reply from froncong.
I don't know if he is backing out of the deal as I haven't gotten a reply all day.

I'll give it some time but I'd like to know francong's plans.
If not francong please let me know as I'd like to find a board to put my chips in (hopefully Alex above (still)) and use Sebastian as the Escrow with BTC.

Thanks,
IAS

I sent you three a pm. Francong will send me the btc and i can send it to you, then take the chips from you 2 in exchange.

Ok. The chips are already at Burnins though, right?

Thanks for your help and availability. Without you, this would be a total mess.
Thanks a ton,
IAS

Hello,

Ok, I will offer you 240€ total (PM deal), your choice of Pay Pal or Überweisung. Let's just wait till Burnin or Sebastian say it is ok.
This includes everything you list above.

Thanks,
IAS

O.k. Deal! as said in the PM.

Sorry Alexius89. We tried. Was just no simple way to get escrow with paypal or Überweisung and a refund offer came up and so I took it.
I wanted a miner and not a refund though, but after trying and thinking, I didn't see a low risk way without using escrow.

This is back open should anyone want to jump in. Nice rig at a fair price with everything you need minus 40 chips.
Best,
IAS

By the way... someone interested to get a refund for 60 chips? Looks like i did another error and refunded 60 chips that someone wanted to be kept...
And someone ordered 3 bitburners  Cry

Would it be an alternative to sell the order to someone for 85%? (I think thats the rate it goes)

If you want bitburners badly, i have 6 bitburners on order and paid and zefir is delivering my chips to burnin. I dont need those 6 miners so theoretically i could sell you the whole miners (or 2) at the cost i had for it. When you refunded your order your loss wouldnt be high. I could even lower the price for the bitburners for the 15% or so you lose by selling your order. And i could give you a bit of stacking cable with 2 connectors. Or the amount of miners you need.
Only an offer.

By the way... someone interested to get a refund for 60 chips? Looks like i did another error and refunded 60 chips that someone wanted to be kept...

I just PM'D you about being Escrow for me and Alex via Überweisung. If we can't get that worked out, I'd accept a refund for the 40 chips.

Thanks,
IAS

I dont want to risk my bank account. Do you mean you would want refund for 40 chips and francong gives you the 95% of 0.086btc per chip to buy them from you? If so we still need 20 chips then.
Thank you "Its About Sharing" and Sebastian so much.

So, if the plan goes like this

I'll pay Its About Sharing 3.268btc(5% deducted) in exchange for 40 chips.
I'll pay Sebastian for 1 bitburner, whole miners.
Refund 1 Bitburner from burnin/Sell 1 Bitburner(w/o chips) to someone else

I'm totally happy with that.  Grin

BTW, Deutschland is an awesome place, I went Düsseldorf, Hanover, Berlin and München. Love them so much, little bit cold though.

That is fine for me. I wanted the Bitburner but understand Sebastian doesn't want to use his bank account and I'd like to have some escrow, which I can't with pay pal.

Sebastian has my BTC address I believe.

Thanks,
IAS
Thanks IAS, but it's 3am for me right now. Should we discuss it further later, maybe by messaging?  Tongue

Sure. This is a bit new for me so just involve Sebastian with the transfer.
Thanks both ways.
