meh... too steep @ 2BTC, I would be interested in several though @ < 1.2BTC if they ship before the end of next week.

Nothing personal, I think you have a great design and you're getting fucked by bitfury et al but with all the KNC shipping and HF close the current price won't break even.

http://mining.thegenesisblock.com/a/a0752023cd

I don't think there is a miner that you can break even on.

Let's take KNCMiner who is one of the very very few shipping on time.
If you pay with BTC's you can get 550Ghash/s for $4500. That is $8.18/Ghash.   (Note, their boxes so far have quite a few duds. My group buy has theirs running at 350Ghash/s and we are still waiting on an answer back from them after a week.) If you pay with CC it will run you $5,000. (Not a bad way if you are cashless to get BTC! LOL)

A Bitfury 8 chip (at 80Ghash/s I hope, haven't heard back yet from Barntech at what they are running at and how overclockable they have gotten them.) is $400.
That is $5 per Ghash. If we are only going to get 64Ghash (no overclocking at all), then it is $6.25 per Ghash.

So, if you convert Bitfury to Jupiter, and order 550Ghash/s, you get this:
If 80Ghash/s is delivered - $2750 for 550 Ghash/s. An almost 40% savings.
If 64Ghash/s is delivered - $3438 for 550 Ghash/s. An almost 25% savings.

So, my question to you is, where can you get a much better deal? Might be out there, but this is a pretty good price for a delivery in the next 2 weeks or so.

At this stage in the game, mining is not about breaking even unfortunately. But a lot of that will depend on where BTC goes.

IAS

My apologies, I made a major mistake in my calculations, by 4X. (Foot in mouth) For some reason I calculated 80GHash, for 400, when it is 1600. I was thinking of what I bought and used the wrong price. Again, sorry about that.

Vulgartrendkill - might want to edit your post.

https://www.bitaddress.org

I have provided a signed version of the SHA1 hash of the file:
http://www.bitaddress.org/ninja_bitaddress.org.txt - PGP Public Key
http://www.bitaddress.org/pgpsignedmsg.txt - Signed Message
Key fingerprint = 527B 5C82 B1F6 B2DB 72A0 ECBF 8749 7B91 6397 4F5A

For those of us Noobs, and for the purposes of education and security, how can we check the the Signed Message? I have GPG on my computer and only know how to check a .sig file as Canton showed on his site.

I was able to verify the Key Fingerprint (File Checksum) here http://onlinemd5.com/ by selecting Sha1 and checking a File Checksum on the File (right?) And I got  - B7BDA19C2327CC44A81B68A44926A9F8057ED681.

Any other suggestions, links, etc are appreciated.

Much Thanks,
Its about sharing

Well Its end of friday, I guess no production over the weekend, I wonder how far they got.

I would also like to ask what the final hash rate was before production and is it still being worked on/tweaked ?

and keeping with that theme is the firmware upgradeable over USB, If so it makes sense to ship ASAP and let us flash any improvements later.

Big Thanks to Jes and the team, I hope there will be further Drillbit products in the future..

Good questions and thanks as well.

1304  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: DRILLBIT SYSTEM Miners - 2.7 GH/s thumbs 0.65 BTC, 21.7 GH/s boards 2 BTC on: November 01, 2013, 07:02:55 AM
So if we go for the 12v, the connectors on the boards will remain 4 pin molex, but the connectors on the miniplanes and doubles scrolls will change to 6 pin molex. On the miniplane, probably only one will be required, but we may put 2 on just to make sure you'll get enough power. The double scroll will have 2 for sure.

So, I just want to be certain. The decision is to go with 12v, so the main boards are using 4 pin molex, and the miniplane will have 1 or 2 6 pin PCIe power leads rather than the 24-pin ATX power. I will need a paper clip or a more upmarket adaptor to start the PSU. Is this right?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=266235.msg3431111#msg3431111

It looks like that ATX switch can't plug into the miniplane without a cable though, just by looking at the connectors?

I've never really used Linux but logically speaking the simple automation of renaming in-and-out of multiple config files based on certain basic triggers or conditions shouldn't be rocket science on any OS.  Or do you mean more than one config running against one single instance of cgminer?

I think it is possible to have 2 config files with 1 instance of CGMiner or just running two instances of CGMiner. I was advised strongly against it and told to just use two Raspberry Pi's.
To a lot of people (non computer experts), scripting and sysadmin is a lot like rocket science. I'm an EX-IT expert, and honestly, it is just a headache even when you kinda know what you are doing. These miners pretty much run, but adding complexity in the way we are talking can be a real big headache when problems are experienced. I've worked on computers for years to know otherwise. Just trying to save others the headache.

I would STRONGLY suggest to people non fluent in sysadmin work / scripting to not even attempt to run two config files or two instances of CGMiner on one Pi.

Running MinePeon with it's GUI interface is about as far as I would suggest a Semi-noob to go. And even then, they have to know a bit with regard to Linux commands to get around. At a basic level just setting up the Raspberry Pi remotely (no monitor connect) can be a headache.

Will it be possible to run these Drillbit boards with a Raspberry Pi that is already running a bitfury burner board, using cgminer? It would make a much simpler set up than having another Pi to look after.

From what I remember months ago (as I looked into it), you can run both miners at the same time, BUT if you overclock one then I believe the settings will effect both. You can run 2 instances of CGMiner and then control each miner independently off of one Raspberry Pi. If you don't have sys admin and scripting skills, that will not be possible. I had sysadmin skills and won't even think about that now. You will have to check this but a very experienced miner related this to me and a bit more which I now forget. Oh, he also mentioned running more than one config file but that is a bit beyond me right now.

Basically, if the drivers are there it should work, the problem for obvious reasons is with overclocking.

Hope that helped,
IAS

Again, excellent commentary and very educational (e.g. - You said piercing the wicks is easier then piercing the bodies, regarding followup candles going up.)

Do you look at many long term candle charts? I hope you don't mind if I share one here, using a bit of GANN. That part is experimental as we don't have a history in which to really have a solid start point, but I think it might be close. What are your thoughts long term? I think the long term chart is and has been VERY strong. I think the base diagonal line support is actually conservative. To get a prediction in writing, I say 350 is possible this year and next year, a minimum of 600 and breaking 1000 is more in the plans imo. A world economic situation that will worsen is a part of the reason. And China continuing to use BTC is another (Note China's main exchange has more volume than Gox or Stamp and is approaching the sum of both). And just wait for other countries like India to start.

I went with the CoolerMaster V450S PS. It is the most efficient PS out right now at lower loads. Really a nice unit and built with quality (Think it is actually Seasonic technology). You are going to get power efficiency on a MiniPlane of around 92%. That is pretty insane for this price range (like a Platinum unit but it is gold). They run around 70-90 bucks, just came out in the last month or so. Also, the voltage regulation is very tight, probably will make a difference in overclocking (or I am hoping). All around a great unit.

Here is a review of the 550 model. http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/CoolerMaster/V550S/

I went with the Scythe Gentle Typhoon Fan 1450 rpm ( 120x120x25mm ). It is extremely quiet and is a ball bearing fan. Great great reviews and it puts out a tremendous amount of CFM. Was going to go with the 1800 but the 1450 does 46CFM which should be plenty. 21 dB is quiet, the 1800 is 28 dB, which is still quiet and does 58CFM.

Great Review Here: http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=212924

Looking forward to getting this working!

Going back to the Baidu (or whatever the Chinese Google is called) I saw that as the most bullish news yet for BTC. People need to understand that when BTC is taken in by a large company like that, you can have reasonable certainty that the Government has a hand in it or at least gave the OK. And now there is the news of more BTC on CCTC regarding that Canadian ATM. The volume in China is now surpassing the US exchanges.

What happens when India Joins in? This is going to get bubbly and it might not really even be a bubble...

Here is what I use for my BitFury starter kit.  Works like a charm and looks better than a paperclip.

Really really nice, have to find that in Germany or EU now!

Barntech - Did you settle on the 12V yet or? Readying to order the PS's.

We are reaching the end of the list !

Hopefully they start answering RMA and problem requests a bit more quickly now.

Screenshot shows cgminer 3.6.4 on the Pi

You would never think I studied Justice, eh?  Cheesy

I'm running cgminer 3.3.4 and haven't upgraded in a while (as I heard the newer versions were having problems). My MinePeon is MinePeon Version 0.2.3
I see the latest MinePeon is 2.4 and CGMiner is 3.6 so it looks like they are working with the latest. Hopefully it is stable, I haven't checked the threads lately.
Will load all that up on my other Pi once the version is settled on.

Flemeister - I'd go with the Seasonic just as they have the top name in the area. ( I think the new Coolers Master V's are actually Seasonics in part.)
But I'm no expert and I know you weren't asking, just bragging.  Tongue

On other news, I just visited one of our mad scientists in his lab. The photos speak for themselves.  Cool

This board only has 7 chips on (for reasons not worth going into), which means we're currently getting 2.24 per chip on the 8 board. Not bad. This is without proper cooling and various other tweaking on clock, voltage etc still to come, so we're looking good.  Grin

Wow! That is great Barntech (and great news about the 6+2 PCI-E connector - all PS's have that  or the 6 if older. Tons of choices out there).

You are getting just under 18 Ghash/s per board (if you had 8 chips). That is nice and such a huge jump from last week. Not really overclocking them much yet either. Good luck finding that perfect setting.

So small, I really thought they would be larger. (I can always put the mini in a larger computer case with a noise generator and blinking lights to get that effect though, just for when company is over of course!  Grin )

Thanks for the pics, nice to see. So exciting to be this close. Congrats.

Waiting for the go on 12V and I will order my Cooler Master V450S at 92% efficiency. (We need that with the rates here in Germany nearing .28 kwh)

Its about sharing

ps - CGMiner or BFGMiner on the Pi?
1314  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: DRILLBIT SYSTEM Miners - 2.7 GH/s thumbs 0.65 BTC, 21.7 GH/s boards 2 BTC on: October 28, 2013, 06:23:47 AM
Barntech (and others),

First great news, close to the decision on the PS. Maybe we can order later today and set up the Mining Shrine.

Question - Are the 6 pin Molex common connectors on modern Power Supplies? (Do they go by a different name?) As I can't seem to find many.

Looking at PS's I am not seeing the name "6 pin Molex". (And I'm hardly seeing 6 pin connectors, but on a few)

For example:
-Only 2 of the 7 low watt (300w - 500w) "Be Quiet" models have PCIE 6 pin connectors and just 1 at that (I think that is Molex as it is the only 6 pin listed.)
-I see no 6 pin on the cooler master series (see 6+2)
-EVGA 500 - I see only the 6+2 listed
-400 Watt Super Flower Golden Green - 1 x 6 pin PCI Express power (I think this is it).
-Corsair RM 450 - No 6 pin listed
-Corsair CX 430 - No 6 pin listed (both of these Corsairs list 6+2)
-Seasonic SSR 360 - 1x 6pin PCI-Express Connector

So, if 6 pin connectors are not as common on newer power supplies, be selective with which you buy. (Excuse me if I'm wrong here, just checking and don't understand all the terminology but imagine others are in the same situation.)

Can these 6 pin connectors be had via an adapter to an (e.g. 6+2 pin?, etc.)

Thanks,
IA

edit - From what I have read, I think you can use an adapter to go from 6+2 PCI-E to 6 PCI-E. Can someone confirm that?
1315  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Is anyone actually going to buy the 600 GH/s BFL unit after their customer serv? on: October 27, 2013, 09:01:23 PM
I transferred my early June Jalapeno to Mining by the Ghash (Monarch) to be hosted by BFL for a year.

My choice was probably this:
A - A December delivered Jalapeno that might mine me 1 BTC over a year. And I would have to pay customs which would negate that 1 BTC.
B - Getting 40 Ghash or so in Feb I hope. That might get me 1 BTC over a year. No customs.

My debate came down to "Do I want the novelty of just having a Jalapeno years from now?" and I almost chose yes but the pain of paying tax on something when I could probably buy it on Ebay in December for 100 bucks and have my 40 Ghash is Feb won out...

And there is the great chance that BFL can't deliver on the Monarch and by some act of God I actually get a refund.  Grin

Seems the Jupiter that I am in a Group Buy with (Aug 2nd order) just arrived last week and is hashing at 315Ghash/s. Looks like a chip is bad or the like.

Any good stories out there of KNC shipping out a replacement board or the like and not asking for the unit back with an RMA and such?

Thanks,
IAS
