561  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: With gambling, it's probably easier to quit cold turkey on: December 10, 2023, 06:51:41 PM

Quitting cold turkey, contemplating on your mistakes and talking about it with a group and some experts sounds like the best path. What are your thoughts? Could a problem gambler quit slowly and expect realistic improvements?

That is the best possible way but it isn't that easy or realistic especially when they are deeply addicted to it. Generally when we talk about detox the addiction it means slowly reducing the dosage or drug or give an alternate drug that induces a similar mental situation while keep monitoring them continuously but talking about gambling that isn't possible so there should be a complete shift of their focus and needs to keep them engaged until the get back on their own and realize their mistake.
562  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Who should quit, and why? on: December 10, 2023, 03:38:00 PM
Hey house someone need a few clips here, don't know if a post of this exact nature has been discussed though.

In a situation where the both spouse are gamblers. Husband gambles, wife gambles, how can both of them manage the situation in terms of finance and the family affairs especially when children are now involve so that the time both spends on gambling doesn't affect family moments and affairs in general.

Would it help if  one of the couple quit for the other and if that's the case who should quit for who.

Neither Husband Nor wife because they are not supposed to gamble to make a life out of it and if they do then they are fu*ked up already.

If quitting is an option then both should be the right choice because it is not fair to lose something by one while partner not willing to sacrifice but honestly speaking the marriage won't work for too long so the kid has to find a good foster home. Roll Eyes
563  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: seed phrase help on: December 10, 2023, 07:25:21 AM

new/restore>(wallet 4)new>standard wallet>i already have a seed>enter seed phrase>
when i enter the phase, for example
"the quick brown f" it then comes up a box saying standard>then next highlights>click next>>opens a wallet.

Did you check the extend the seed with the custom word check box? If yes then it will create you a new set of addresses so its a different wallet but what you mean by 4 words? Did your recovery seed contain only 4 words? Because, generally it is supposed to be 12/18/24 words.

Make sure that you have the right recovery seeds and enter the seeds as it is.
564  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Need help on: December 09, 2023, 04:46:14 PM
How do you fix this? Has my wallet been compromised?

https://ibb.co/nCrHv03

You can use the coin control feature by importing the wallet into Electrum desktop or blue wallet for smartphone but if you want a fix without importing the wallet then here it is.

Send what is possible using Max Amount, with default fee setting. This will leave the small UTXOs, but send out the non-dust ones.

Unable to Send due to Dust Error

If you still, can't then your wallet balance is only filled with dust UTXOs that can't be sent at the current fee rate.
565  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you regret also for ever knowing about gambling? on: December 09, 2023, 02:21:24 PM
one of my friend was practically blaming the other for the whole problem is currently going through right now as he constantly gambles his money away and at what avail? was the question being asked to the friend who actually inviting him to a gambling house during highschool. The matter looks childish
A man should own his mistake and face the consequences, blaming someone for his current activity just because he invited him once is his school days to gamble, after all if he is a minor he gambled illegally that is his first ever mistake and he kept doing it until now so its kind of an addiction too and blaming others won't solve anything but will push further into loneliness.
566  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Someone Deposited Money Into My Bitcoin Wallet. Can He Withdraw it? on: December 09, 2023, 11:29:38 AM
Someone owed me money and he wanted to pay me in Bitcoin.
So I gave him my Bitcoin wallet address and he transferred the funds.
It's now complete.
But can he now withdraw the money since he has my bitcoin wallet address?

Bitcoin transactions with at least 1 confirmation are irreversible.

You can give a Bitcoin address to anyone and that is how they can send you the funds but only a person who has the private key associated with that public address can access what's in it.

Technically, they can reserve the transaction by having 51% hash power of total bitcoin mining which will cost millions and billions of dollars so the more the confirmations the more likely it's not possible to reverse.

Little heads up, can you guys please stop doing this?

Technically it is not against forum rules but this is a sign of spam even if you do not intend to practice so stop quoting the previous posts entirely and only quote the person that you want to reply to and edit all the previous names so that it is possible to keep up with the discussion and also it won't hurt eyes whoever jump into reading.
568  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Minimize fees on Lightning network on: December 08, 2023, 05:32:20 PM
As an example, for a 0.027BTC transaction the fee I paid was 0.000164BTC which is comparable to the on-chain fee.
This is not possible as of now.
The 0.000164BTC is around $7 it is still high maybe the operator is asking for high transaction fees or maybe the fees he is talking about are the ones he paid for opening a channel.
LN transfer fees are way less and it can't be around $7 unless the transacted amount is a few thousand bitcoins which is unlikely possible to happen so yeah OP is confusing the LN transfer fee with the fee that he paid while opening the channel.

LN node operators set the base fee as less as possible and they are not doing it to make any financial benefits in my opinion.

570  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: gambling for newbies on: December 08, 2023, 01:25:39 PM
Hello everyone, as you can see I'm new here, I'm looking for recommendations for a game to bet some money that I don't mind losing, I would like recommendations and if possible a recommendation for somewhere that teaches how to play. Thank you very much. Grin

I advice to look down few inches below your post (your signature space), if you want to try something then why not start with something that you are currently promoting and its one of the oldest casino and my favorite is plink which doesn't need any tutorial, just go and start playing then you will understand how it works.
571  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: message Not enough funds. You need to set a lower fee. on: December 08, 2023, 11:32:48 AM
When I try to pay I get message Not enough funds. You need to set a lower fee. But I have enough money on balance to send to receiver and to pay mining fee. The balance was 0.379 mbts. I had to pay 0.22. The mining fee was approximately 0.9 mbts. I wanted to pay using ETA.  Please write me, how to solve the problem when paying by ETA or static. If I do not want to pay with mempool.

It means you don't have funds to cover the fee required that you are trying to set.

You can't be sure that you have enough funds to send your 0.22mbtc even with your 0.379mbtc balance because the fee depends on the number of inputs and the number of outputs.

Click the preview button in your electrum wallet which will show you the number of inputs, output, size, etc, and post the image of that to give you more explanation.
572  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What will you say within your limits to encourage responsible gambling? on: December 08, 2023, 08:33:22 AM
If you work as a staff member in a physical casino as a dealer or in a sports bookie, I know that there are subtle ways you can use to encourage responsible gambling that will not go against the terms and conditions for staff.

For example, suppose you encounter a gambler who has wagered $200 at the table and is currently winning $6k. Would you express to them, "Hey, you're up $6k, and you initially entered this table with $200. Walk away, Take your winnings, go!" or will you say, "It is very admirable to know when to stop"?

What will you say within your limits to encourage responsible gambling?

If you are an employee, just keep your mouth shut because its not right to talk with your customer convincing to quit as well as it is bad for the place where you are working.

I can only say about responsible gambling to someone is being one and show how it should be, actions speaks a lot louder than words.
573  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Avoid paying high fees by Making fewer transactions advice newbie on: December 07, 2023, 07:47:16 PM
Bitcoin network has been congested for over a month now and there are multiple reasons but primarily ORDI spam attack on the network is causing the most damage and lasting longer than usual.

If you stop making all your transactions then you are not going to be affected at all but what are the solutions for those who really want to make transfers even when the network is congested, there are few choices which is making fewer inputs and outs as possible so the transaction size will be low means the transfer fee too.

Another hack that can really save you some pennies is by following the steps suggested by Charles-Tim

Mempool is congested, use ViaBTC free accelerator.
574  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling sites and current transactions fee on: December 07, 2023, 05:41:11 PM
Now the gambling site was in the trouble because of the high transaction fee by the exchanges like the Binance. It was unacceptable one for the gambler to pay 26 dollars to withdraw funds from the Binance.Being a gambler,my opinion is to hold till the money in the exchange itself.Surely we get the profit from the gambling site,if we follow some techniques in the gambling site. But my point is why we need to pay the exchange fee of 26 dollars for the single transaction.

Isn't that normal fee on an exchange for Bitcoin withdrawal? Usually it was about $20 if I am not wrong but with the recent surge in BTC price the fee looks higher or they using dynamic fee structure now?

But what is the connection between exchange withdrawal and gambling site suffers due to high transaction fee?

If I am not wrong most users don't send funds directly from exchange to gambling sites or vice versa because its not smart to not to have hold on atleast one end with our funds.
575  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sympathetic gamblers looses itself on: December 07, 2023, 03:03:00 PM
I have seen some facial expression gamblers that I am emotionally touched about and feels they have loosed more than they can handle and feels they deserves an condolence winning. While I empathic with him his amount of lost, I am then to consoling myself that someone on here has lost more than I do.

This is exactly how some gamblers runs out of gambling budgets and goes bankrupt because they fails to figure what their net worth or incomes value is.

They are basically to believe one who lost $20 has lost more to them who looses $10.

This is just an excuse that they are giving themselves to justify their loss but in reality, it is not the same.

Let's take two individual, one who make $2000 a month and the other who make $50K a month now talking about the loss of the individual who lost $200 is worse compared to the loss of $1000 by the second individual.

If you ever try to convince yourself then avoid it, it can't do anything good for you in long run.
576  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I could have won bigger. on: December 07, 2023, 01:38:38 PM
Firstly, money and relationships should never mix whether its friendship or family better avoid borrowing which can ruin the relationships.

Now come to the topic, you are supposed to bet $10 in the first place or just have the thought now after seeing results?

Either way, all you can do is just blame but it is not going to change anything at all and if you feel that you still got some juice then try to make the $50 winning reward by going through the same process and see what is the result and what is your feeling if it goes the other way.
577  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A first Bitcoin block explorer. How it looks like? on: December 07, 2023, 06:47:20 AM
I am not using any blockchain explorer other than https://mempool.space/ lately and to be honest, it is more convenient and a lot easier to navigate than other blockchain explorers but I am not using it for tracking the addresses primarily but it comes in handy when it is needed and its the best to estimate the optimal fee needed for our transactions. 578  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The message remains consistent from January to December on: December 06, 2023, 06:47:35 PM
He called out Binance after his account, holding over fifteen thousand USD, was inexplicably deleted. Despite the assistance of an alleged Binance support staff in restoring the account, the coins remained missing, and the account history vanished without a trace.
Again I say, safeguard your coins by removing them from exchanges. Do you ever trust that they will be safe there.
It's not just been told this year, this has been the recommendation from crypto users all the time because crypto exchanges are getting hacked more often so it will be a surprise if we witness a year with no exchange incident.
"Not your keys not your cryptos".

If you are wondering where to move your bitcoins to after taking them off exchanges, here is what Charles-Tim advises:

Quote
Hardware wallets like trezor and ledger nano are recommended, I will also recommend you to use electrum as the app you will use to operate the hardware wallet, you can download it from electrum.org.

This is a recommendation given a couple of years back and it is still valid though about hardware wallets but the two names you were talking about can't be trusted especially Ledger because they have been trying to do various stunts and also get caught with Ledger Open Source Fakery?!

There are still other hardware wallets out there but I would say Running electrum in an air-gapped device is good enough for an average user, let's say anything below 1BTC.
579  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How Do You Convince Someone On Something That Will Not Work on: December 06, 2023, 05:44:21 PM

We all know Martingale will not work in the long run, should I let him find out himself but that will incur a heavy loss in this case.  Cry
Or should I discourage him by showing him videos, articles, and testimonials?

Because of this, I will not talk about online gambling to newbie I could put a guy in big trouble.

I would not say stop him from what he is about to do but it would be perfect if you gave more insight about it and of course, explaining about the martingale's success is not much will help him to realize that strategy is nothing but a faster way to bust our bankroll.

And importantly, I would talk about the money he wants to deposit, I will insist him not deposit any money that he considers he can't afford to lose and if he is taking the risk then he also has to face the consequences of it.
580  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How do you deal with high transaction fee on BTC on gambling? on: December 06, 2023, 03:52:08 PM
One another things, bitcoin fee is not really big at all. In around 1-2$ + If you using (Segwit) you can get more cheaper.

It was around 50 sat/vbyte region before 48 hours but now again it's getting crazy and right now we can see the price at 150sat-200sat/vb for medium to high priority transactions which is like $10 for 1 input and 1 output TX.

Well, I am not gonna deposit BTC at the moment to gambling site and if you want then choose alternative cryptos until the spam attack clears from BTC network but for an average gambler like high rollers $10 fee is not that big problem at all.
