I guess theymos doesn't want to put the limit to high due to the lesser restrictions that come with being a member. Although, I believe he has suggested he's willing to tweak things if people are getting merit to easily, and the other way around. I don't think this is an issue currently though and the 10 merit is probably fine.

I don't need merits to rank up, but I do need sMerit so I can give merit to other people. Being a "nice guy", I'm actually getting much less merit than I'm giving away. I'll sooner or later run out, which is unfortunate, since I tend to reward people who make meaningful contributions to my threads.
This is the reason why Hero members and legendary members need to receive merit so they can distribute it all the same as other members. I imagine in a few months time or a year from now when we have an adequate number of merit sources receiving merit and redistributing it won't be a problem.

In this market every person seems to follow his own agenda, and the proposal by Cobra seem to fit perfectly in that category. In order to take things to the next level, the easiest way to cause confusion is to ddos the site Cobra is managing and has direct access to. It would then look like he took it down or messed with it, while in reality it was done by someone else. I probably don't need to point people here at how easy it is to rent a ddos attack, and how cheap it is to keep it running for a few hours. I wouldn't worry much about this and especially not about the proposal....
This was my initial thought. I very much doubt that Cobra would take down Bitcoin.org intentionally to try and push his proposal through as this would of tarnished his reputation if found out to be true. AFAIK it was only down for a few hours at most, so either it was coincidental that it went down at the time of this drama, or it was indeed a ddos.

Bitcoin has the advantages of being around for years and having probably the most accessible and ease to use software. Plus, you know with Bitcoin that the developers are actively updating it, whilst we can't say the same for other altcoins out there.
Also, Bitcoin almost certainly has the most documentation out there due to it being around the longest and being the most popular cryptocurrency. I would suggest that they get into reading and using Bitcoin for these reasons and consider altcoins once they have a better understanding of cryptocurrency.

It wasn't the partial use of his text though was it? You, sorry your "friend" directly copied the message and changed the very start of the sentence to make it not so obvious. You got caught, and from now on you'll have to make do just reading the forum from now on.

Most cloud mining services aren't worth investing in, they always end up exit scamming or directly scamming it's customers. It's just not a profitable service in the long run. Though, in this case this isn't even cloud mining the guy is trying to scam you. If you have those funds still in your wallet then move them out now. You shouldn't give a private key to anyone regardless of the circumstances.
It doesn't matter if you gave the private key before you funded it, as the private key doesn't change when you add funds.

Well, his "new" Korean translator makes several typos so no, it's not professional.
Hopefully the warnings are enough on their thread to prevent people getting a poor service. Though, it does seem that this sort of scam/poor service is rife in the local boards specifically. If you know someone who is Korean and also has a good reputation then you could get them to have a look and judge the translations and possibly give a negative if they think it's justified.

banning signature campaigns has been discussed at length many a time campaigns is like a double edged sword, they both bring more users and more posts and the posts' quality deteriorates, which is only normal since the total amount of posts increases granted, nowadays, for every relevant answer you have to dig through several meaningless spam-like posts or you prefer for the topics remain without any answers at all, just because nobody cared to answer? ICO ann thread bumping is prohibited now,so instead of banning all the capaigns, maybe enforce the rules better?
Enforce the rules on the campaign managers too. This way we'll see higher quality members being accepted in the signature campaigns as well as higher quality managers managing the signature campaigns. They should be held responsible for allowing and encouraging the spam that comes with signature campaigns and bounties. I would argue that bounties are a bigger problem and it's unlikely due to the sheer amount of them that it would be easily moderated by the current staff.

You aren't getting the negative removed, and you can probably count yourself lucky that the ones that have left neutral trust haven't made it a red trust rating others that have purchased/sold an account normally get a red rating straight off the bat.

Polls have been run on the forum regarding suggestions on the forum, and other things like the ones which ask you to estimate the Bitcoin price over in the speculation section. Regarding the suggestions for the forum though, they are never the deciding factor as polls are easily manipulated in a forum where most of it's users are anonymous and have dozens of alt accounts. It only gives a general idea what others think, but is definitely open to abuse.
what is the proof so you can say that this forum is in wrong use? I don't understand what you are asking, I'm not saying polls are wrong, but are abused by users who control multiple accounts or if they aren't being abused currently if it benefited them in anyway almost certainly they would be abused. For example, if theymos put up a poll regarding signature campaigns and whether to remove them from the site, alt accounts would certainly flood in and vote the one which has the option to continue allowing them.

What kinds of hints are most useful? Ie... I'm highly confident that I used... at least 1 whole English word at least 6 chars long - possibly by itself, but also possibly combined with: 1 instance of a known 3 digit numerical string; 1 instance of a known 4 digit numerical string; or 2 matching instances of an unknown 2-digit numerical string. I may also have included up to 2 instances of a single non-alphanumeric symbol either at the end of the password or at the beginning and end of the password. Not anywhere in between. Like Mody0101, anyone can contact me for more specifics. However, I think that my problem comes from mis-spelling that whole word (I wish BitAddress.org used matching password form validation). So... I think that using a dictionary file of parts of words or misspelled words will be useful. I have only done miniscule amounts of programming in my lifetime. But I think an algorithm for this might go... - list all possible seed words used to generate the encrypted private key (the hard part)
- filter for matches containing parts of words or misspelled words
- filter for matches containing any of the known 3 or 4 digit strings possibly used
- filter for matches of words I might have used
- done?
Look at what bob123 said, that applies to you too. Also, I noticed that you like to use 'leet' speak by putting a "3" instead of a "e" is it possible that this could be the password too? These are the things that you need to be thinking about and include all the information you can on the password if this information compromises any other passwords that you use then you need to change them before releasing this information. At the moment we don't need to think about the algorithm used, we just need information on the password otherwise no algorithm is going to work. Provide all the information you can and send it to Dave's recovery services.

O_o .. You probably didn't got my point here. There are some undervalued sections like the mining and pools and to get Merit points there is almost impossible.
theymos is probably trying to find merit sources which frequent all the boards between them, and I would imagine that giving a few months most of the sections will have one or more source looking at that section daily. It might be a problem currently but, once he adds more merit sources that are active in those sections it should be fine.

It's public for everyone at: https://bitcointalk.org/modlog.phpIt displays: - Nuked users - Autobanned users - Deleted posts - Removed topics I'm yet to know whether the posts displayed on this page are only posts that have been reported by members and then acted upon, but I've always assumed that this displays every single one of the moderators actions even if the post hasn't been reported and the moderator has found it themselves and acted directly.

If you've reported his translation services then that wouldn't be removed due to moderators not enforcing scams, or potential scams they only remove spam and the like. It's up to the DefaultTrust members and other members to use the trust system to tag scammers.
If he's got a bad Korean translator then that's not good for business and should of been double checked by someone not involved, has he now got rid of that translator?

Although, admins can see personal messages for them to prevent sales on forum they would require reading these messages which I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't like the thought of. Yeah, any sensitive personal messages should be through PGP or a similar system but, not every message requires that. Even, if you did ban account sales this only prevents them dealing on the forum they'll just go elsewhere and sell the accounts.
theymos also has is reasons why he isn't willing to remove signature campaigns entirely, but I think I remember him suggesting in another post that if the merit system doesn't work as intended then he could look into it further.

There will be hundreds if not thousands of accounts abusing these crapcoin bounties and often they're blatantly obvious just by looking at their spreadsheets. Sometimes just going through their spreadhseets alone you will see patterns in usernames and post-counts etc. Sometimes just clicking on handful of profiles that joined the campaign at roughly the same time you will see they all have the same registered date or very close which is usually a good indication of alts. I'm sure many aren't smart enough to cover their tracks via blockchain evidence either and send to the same address etc but all of this is very time consuming to look into.
Isn't this the responsibility of the campaign manager though? Whoever that may be whether they are low rank or high ranked. It should be one of the most important factors for campaign/bounty managers because if they are enrolling alt accounts without reviewing them before accepting, then they themselves could be accused of enrolling their own alt accounts.

Looks to be a typical user who can't speak English so posts generic replies and breaks forum rules. For example, he posts very short replies in off topic as well as posting the "Great project" sort of replies in the altcoin section.
Seems like his 'team' offer everything under the sun too, a lot of languages offer as well as site design. I can't leave feedback for these reasons above, but you should probably consider contacting a trusted member that can speak Korean and get them to review the annoucement thread that they have translated.

Thanks @shushanika.
I'll take a look at that users complete history when I'm reviewing some of the others, and make sure that he's done this multiple times before. It will likely be reported and handled by the mods. I'll report any posts which need to be reported and keep an eye on the modlog and see if he's banned or not if he isn't I'll add him to the list.

Nice find. You would think if they were capable of gaining access to an account through what ever means they used they wouldn't be so stupid to send a massive amount of merit out of the blue wouldn't you?
Keep an eye on this account and they'll likely make the same mistake twice and expose another hacked account.
