In my opinion:
An auto lock feature on selected sections like bitcoin/altcoin discussion or off topics is a must try. With a number range of 50 to a 100 replies. Or few number of pages.

Could do. But, would this be turned on by default? If not, then a lot of people wouldn't use it anyway, and would just ignore it. I've also thought about this. The right idea would probably to indeed report it, but one time in the past I didn't want to soil my good:bad reporting ratio. LOL

From my personal observations I think the following could be up for consideration:

- Suchmoon
AFAIK, the others aren't reporting that much. But, they are active in other regards. Theymos is already aware of potential moderators though. Not like there needs to be any nominations as he probably already knows who would be fit for the job, and who wouldn't.

I fucking know right? I literally ask this everyday to myself, believe it or not: "What the fuck am I doing in this forum?". And I'll be honest, sometimes I feel like "Ah,this shit is fucking boring." So I just go and read some shitposts, and get back to weird normal person who I was. I have even had thoughts on leaving this forum(despite the fact that I am in the highest paying campaign), but just can't do it, you know what I mean?
Bitcointalk is sort of the only forum I have been part of, and yeah this is it.
I've taken short breaks from the forum. Not necessarily because of the forum, but because of other commitments. But, even with my longest extended break I came back, and fitted right in. It didn't take too long to get up to speed with things again, and a lot happened whilst I was gone. We lost a few members here, and there that I quite liked, and some surprising things occurred. I've never thought about leaving the forum I don't think, but certainly sometimes its best to have small breaks. |

Regardless, someone has to be the cop. Can you imagine if no DT members were tagging these idiots? Bitcointalk would have rules but no enforcement of them, and I suspect at least some DT members don't even think the existing rules are adequate. I sure as hell don't, which is why I give negative trust to account buyers & sellers.
In an ideal world account sales just would be banned. However, I'm not sure how it would be enforced in all honesty. At the moment they are communicating through the forum, but if it gets banned then its just going to go to external sites. Maybe, that wouldn't be so bad? I guess then though account recoveries could be even more problematic than they are now. oh wait, aren't all of them alts??  Hmm...this is awkward. No?  |

I think this poll is just going to be a "crazy off" where the most crazy members come up on top. We all know how entertaining DannyHamiltons posts can be from a technical stand point, but he has no chance of winning when there's several members who swear down the earth is flat, and the planet is made out of cheese. It's not just British sense of humour. It's any kind of humour for non-native speakers, no matter the nationality of the humour. Double meaning, sarcasm and humour are difficult to understand even if you are proficient (and a non-native speaker).
I sometimes get it and sometimes not. Other times it takes me a while.
British humour is certainly something different to most nationalities. We can be incredibly dry. Some nationalities don't seem to get our "banter" either. |

Its true that there's certain ways of getting more merit by strategically posting. However, I would advise against it. Just participate in discussions which you are genuinely interested in, and have something to say about, and you should receive merit. Maybe, not all the time, and maybe not a lot. But, you shouldn't be posting in order to earn merit. Instead, it should be rewarded for posts that you would of posted anyway.

I'm all for helping the community, but I'm not prepared to spoon feed anyone, and I'm not sure if a sticky thread is required. Anyone investing their time/money in altcoins should already know the risks associated with them. It should go without saying that a public forum such as Bitcointalk where anyone can post an announcement thread that none of them are endorsed by Bitcointalk. Except for Howeycoins of course  I'm sure most serious users who care about the projects, and where their money is going will search up the project via the scam accusations thread as well as finding public information about them through a search engine. Maybe, mprep will disagree, and think we need something like this as a sticky thread. Just looked at Coolcryptovator thread, and rewarded it some merit. Maybe, something like that could be added to a sticky, but I like the fact that most stickies are about moderation, and not guides on how to invest, and to do research. Howeycoins kind of acts as a "live" way of doing it. It acts as a real coin, and then shows you the risks associated with altcoins as it deceives you by appearing to be a real coin. Having looked at Coolcryptovators thread I wouldn't be completely against something like that being added as a sticky thread. |

Was that a while ago? Hilariousandco sounds like he's saying that new merit source applications are being put on the back burner. I've seen some merit source application threads that keep getting bumped, but I don't know if those applicants were ever accepted. I don't remember Theymos saying there would be hundreds, but I'll take your word for it.
There probably should be at least 250 or so, because right now it's taking forever for members to rank up and I'm not sure that's entirely due to most posts being garbage. There are Hero members who consistently make great posts, and getting to 1000 merits from 500 is one hell of a barrier.
Yeah, I guess so. It was towards the end of June. I just assumed that theymos didn't think some of the applicants right now were fit for the role of a merit source. All of my interactions with theymos have been pretty quick, and received a reply within 24 hours. Even, when I messaged him a few years ago. So, he's definitely seen the applications. Hmm, I had a quick look, and maybe it wasn't theymos who said it. But, I'm sure I recall him saying so. I could be wrong. I agree though. More merit sources are needed. |

I would agree with that. I didn't realize merit source applications were such a low priority. Does Theymos think we don't need more, or is he just being silent about it?
He has stated before that there will likely be hundreds. He probably knows that more merit sources are needed, but its finding users that are suitable for the role I guess. Not many users are applying either. I don't think they are "low" priority; like I said I received a reply very quickly from theymos, and was added as a merit source within 24 hours if my memory serves me correctly. |

It's funny how that works--but very true. I sometimes wonder what Meta would look like if the shitposting problem were ever completely solved, or if account sales didn't happen. Something tells me it'd be a very different forum.
OP, this is an interesting question. There are a bunch of members here who I listen to very carefully and who've earned my respect. I think of myself and them as "we", definitely. Those people are basically on the same side of the fight against scammers and spam. Everyone else is "them". On the other hand, we're all part of the crypto community so everyone is kind of in this together, for better or worse.
Yeah, don't get me wrong we've lost a few of the substantial members who were here to discuss about the technaclities of Bitcoin, and other cryptocurrencies, but we've also retained a few members who like to contribute to both the forums through discussion, and helping out with the spammers, and what not. I think Meta would be a utopia if that were true |

I would start to look at those people which are actually giving away merits and then further look into what kind of posts are giving merits, we basically have all the data needed to make this kind of decisions. I had even made a tool to try to spot possible merit sources some time ago, i believe could be a starting point, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4393868.0 along with all the work done from other users as well. Yeah, the data is here now. Through a community driven effort to post it publicly. Theymos likely already had most of this information, and analyzed it before appointing anyone. However, I think we should look at the recruitment idea a little further, and maybe as suggested appoint certain members/global moderators to appoint new merit sources. Perhaps only admins would be allowed to remove merit sources. I'm not sure, but I think I would like to see a better way of finding, and appointing new merit sources. I'm not saying the application takes long. I think I received a response off theymos within like 12 hours for mine. I think its just the inconvenience of it, and a lot of users who would make good merit sources might refrain from applying publicly at least. |

Yeah, a few years ago I didn't quite like how the forum handled a few things. Notably scams. I guess I wised up, and actually looked at why they aren't moderated. There were definitely other things that I didn't quite agree on. I've always been for the community, but certainly as I became more experienced here it started to become part of my life. As dumb as that sounds I formed friendships here, and got to meet some real cool people.
The thing is a lot of people have left the forum (some pretty substantial ones) because of the spam problem, and some of the other issues which continue to exist. But, honestly I think that has had the opposite effect on me. I've said before that I liked reporting spammers because I found it oddly therapeutic, and had satisfaction knowing I was helping. I've always reported even a few years ago, but I think I kicked in up a notch in the last year. I guess that has led to where I am now.
This forum does a weird thing to you. With all of its problems, and all of its ball aches it pulls you in, and keeps you here. You eventually become quite passionate about something that isn't even yours. You become passionate about the community as you become part of the community.

What if someone posts repeated answers to repeated questions? What if someone posts something he does not know the truth, and only based on Opinion? Are they Spammers ? Depends on the context really, and how much effort is put into the post. There's too many variables to paint everyone with the same brush, and it would need to be taken as a case by case basis. Duplicate questions aren't too bad, and some times invites healthy discussion. |

I'm not sure about giving certain staff members the rights to do it, maybe? However, I think the application process needs to be changed. There should probably be a way of identifying potential merit sources better, and not requiring them to post a public application. They'll only be bombarded by newbies asking for merits.

But liverpool in the first four matches at EPL has not met or fought a big team, we can see in the following week I think liverpool has difficulty dividing focus on whether to focus more on EPL or at UCL, because there will only be a little time to break in next week and to play at UCL against the big teams also in every competition, if liverpool can perform consistently then it is likely that liverpool will be a strong candidate to win the EPL championship this season.
True, but crystal palace, and Leicester City have always been a bit of a bogey team for them. They haven't exactly gone up against teams which aren't capable of beating them. Whereas Man Utd, and Man City have already dropped points against lesser sides. |

Absolutely. Salah/Firmino/Mane were scary enough last season, but Mane seems to have stepped it up a notch and Keita is a phenomenal addition. It will be between Liverpool and Man City for 1st and 2nd in the league.
Yeah, I'm keeping my eye on them this season as I've made a bet for them to win the league with a few friends of mine. Mane always seems to perform the best when the others aren't quite hitting top form. I think so too. Man City hasn't been that impressive so far to be honest, and it seems all the teams are taking a little while to kick into gear. Liverpool have a brutal fixture list coming up soon though. |

Maybe I'm expecting too much from people, but if I were earning a living from something so easy to do then I would want to keep that job, and do my best at it. I 100% agree with putting restrictions on signatures though. Its way too easy to just create another account once they're account has been banned or whatever |
