581  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and Retail - Will it Ever Truly Happen on: May 28, 2014, 08:08:44 PM
Skimmed it. Seemed to present a single anecdote about an issue with wallet-software as representative of bitcoin being fundamentally unfit for retail transactions. Pretty myopic point of view.

Exactly. Shortcomings of current wallet-software will be resolved by new POS solutions of third parties. Bitcoin will conquer retail. But it'll take more time than e-commerce.

Bitcoin is not ready for mass adoption yet. But progress is accelerating.

how much btc they lost with that hacking

They never lost any BTC, and nor there were any successful hacks. BTC-E manually processes all the BTC withdrawals over BTC10 or so, and even the most renowned hackers have been unable to steal the coins from them.

This is false; They were hacked in the early days (almost 2 years ago now?) and lost about 4600 BTC.

BTC-e covered this from their own profits, and no members lost any funds.

For me BTC-e is a trustworthy exchange. While they lack support, their platform is more secure than most of their competitors'. They are in business for quite a long time without a serious incident that wasn't resolved.

I clearly prefer an anonymous exchange from eastern Europe where bitcoin remains fully fungible over some northern american one, which invades my privacy to follow braindead KYC/AML-laws without even notifying me that they are such bootlickers before sending them money.

KYC/AML-laws are here to take away your freedom by establishing a general suspicion against innocent citizens. You should boycott every entity and isolate every single person that endorses them!

Spider freaks, I have captured one of your comrades in a pickle jar after freaking the Hell out because he jumped. He will die a slow and painful(?) death if you do not send BTC.25 to 16exqdBgeEB2W6K5g51dpFWFCnicL8bUPc

Payment in full, and he'll be released outside (with proof).

Either you're a girl, are broke, or you seriously need help. Grin

588  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BITPAY puts the major credit cards in its sights on: May 20, 2014, 01:49:21 PM
While BitPay is currently adding between 500 and 1,000 merchants every single week, the company is seeing unprecedented growth. With widespread bitcoin adoption becoming an increasing topic of discussion, Pair expects to see major merchants accepting the digital currency “a lot sooner than people imaging today” adding that “many of them are looking at it already.”

That's a pretty decent growth rate! I think that merchant growth is already self-sustaining even without any further marketing efforts.

If any big names enter bitcoin growth will accelerate very fast. However credit card companies are still not out of the game - they have a lot more capital in background and  well established brands.
589  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hardbit Bitcoin Wallet Review on: May 20, 2014, 01:26:39 PM
Although it is a recoded phone I still think it's a much needed product. I never felt comfortable having a bitcoin wallet on my cell because of security / privacy reasons. So I think it's great to finally see a separate bitcoin hardware wallet.

However I think the device should be smaller (less thick) and a desktop client is a must have. But this might be improved in future.
590  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [announce] Namecoin - a distributed naming system based on Bitcoin on: May 20, 2014, 12:31:45 PM
Nice to see that there is still progress in development, because namecoin has a lot of potential. The reworked website is also an improvement.

The id-namespace is a great addition, which might even see widespread use earlier than  .bit.

Keep up the good work!

Imagine if all the young people of the world demanded to be paid in crypto

This would be a good thing because the young people hold more cryptos.  And if older people wanted services, they'd have to purchase cryptos first.  What do you think of this idea?

What do you want to tell? That younger people are somehow better than old people and therefore deserve to have a financial advantage?

Can old people do computing, personal training, nursing, heavy lifting and other strength and tech related activities?

Yes, but young people do it better!

Wait until you're old and then re-evaluate your statement.
592  Other / Off-topic / Re: Spiders live or die? on: May 20, 2014, 11:58:35 AM
I never thought that arachnophobia is such a widespread mental disorder. Sad I suggest that people wanting to kill spiders out of fear learn more about them first.

Most spiders are not harmful, instead they are very helpful keeping harmful insects from spreading. Even those few that could be harmful do only defend themselves when threatened. No spider deliberately attacks or bites humans.

Show some respect for living animals that have done nothing to you!

Cheesy
597  Other / Off-topic / Re: Spiders live or die? on: May 19, 2014, 05:22:16 PM
Before killing any spiders you should think about the big number of insects that is consumed by even a single spider. Without spiders humanity would be plagued with hoards of insects.

All spiders in central Europe are not really dangerous for humans - the vast majority of them can't even bite through human skin. A tennis ball size swelling from a such a spider is definitely a myth. I've handled quite a few spiders and have never been bitten - not even an attempted bite.

You don't have to love them, but please don't kill them.

Big surprise: Former FED employee bearish on bitcoin. Cheesy

The article cites conspiracy claims of Williams ("47 powers coordinated to push prices up"). Not a single proof is given to support these claims. Nonetheless they are portrayed as facts ("As these facts and questions enter the wider consciousness, ....").

Ridiculous propaganda.
599  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Winklevoss twins: Bitcoin will be bigger than Facebook #bitcoin #facebook on: May 19, 2014, 03:56:34 PM
Facebook use is already declining in many industrialized countries. FB does not have a convincing use case other than socializing and entertainment. It's not real innovation (social networking already existed a long time before) but a fad and will die quickly when it fails stay hip in the younger age groups (which is already happening).

Bitcoin is revolutionary technology with countless use cases in world economy.

So the odds are clearly in favor of Bitcoin.
600  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Swiss turn down world's highest minimum wage on: May 19, 2014, 11:54:04 AM
Minimum wages are socialist daydreams that damage economic competitiveness without achieving a sustainable change in inflation-adjusted pay of the working class. Swiss voters realized that.
