581  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Liquidity on: November 25, 2023, 10:33:13 AM
What is liquidity? Any idea some tips ?

In simple terms, Liquidity in crypto basically means how easy it is to swap one coin for another or for fiat without affecting the price too much.  If its liquid, you can trade big amounts without seeing the price budge. Kinda like trying to dump a swimming pool into a lake versus a kiddie pool - the lake's volume can handle it better.  More liquidity signals a healthier market overall, with enough buyers and sellers present so things stay relatively stable.  Definitely something to watch for with smaller cap altcoins especially.

You can find some more info here: What is Liquidity in Cryptocurrency?
582  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Slot games are a waste of time and money (most of the time) on: November 24, 2023, 11:06:51 PM
Slots have gained popularity not because they offer great odds of winning big, but because people enjoy playing them.  There's some thrill in taking a risk for a potentially huge jackpot, even if realistically the chances are very small and  yet folks play anyway for the fun of it and on the off-chance they actually score big.  The games are just convenient entertainment with a side of hope.  So while the likelihood of profits is low, the excitement and possibilities seem to be enough to keep people spinning away regardless.
583  Other / Meta / Re: These degenerates don't wanna quit.. is there a way out? on: November 24, 2023, 10:49:28 PM
I've seen several hack cases and it's not even funny how a user would be up, day and night just to create a reputation and it's taken away just in a moment;

What sorts of hacks are you referring to here on bitcointalk? I wouldn't sweat it too much though.  Even if some joker manages to hack into someone's account, that dont mean the site itself is vulnerable and  folks gotta be responsible for their own security - can't expect Bitcointalk to babysit everyone's account.
584  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is\will Bitcoin become unaffordable to use? on: November 23, 2023, 07:53:50 PM
I saw recently that a transaction was done where the transaction fees were 83.65 BTC to move 139.42btc.
Big challenge is that some people do not exactly know how to make transactions with bitcoins and since they lack tutelage, they make mistakes.

They have no idea about how to check for the transaction fee on the mempool, and these ignorance usually makes them make expensive mistakes.

I kinda doubt that somebody moving that much bitcoin would be clueless about sending transactions.  Sure, some peeps may not realize you can view pending fees on the mempool.  But come on - this ain't their first rodeo.  My guess is the high fee was on purpose.  Maybe they wanted to hide the source of the coins or something shady like that and  or maybe some botched automated transfer? Heck if I know for sure.  But no way was it just a slip up from ignorance.
585  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do not share your bitcoin holdings with everyone on: November 23, 2023, 07:39:24 PM
No doubt, it's smart to keep the lid on things when it comes to blabbing how much BTC you've scraped together.  Like you said, better not to gab with peeps who might stab you in the back or have their own shifty agendas, know what I mean?

Plus aside from dodging hacks or heists, flying under the radar also keeps the spotlight off you.  No reason to wave around what you've accumulated and risk sticking out like a sore thumb, attracting shady characters or other headaches.
586  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you believe in psychic betting? on: November 23, 2023, 06:06:15 PM
Lol no I sure do not believe in Psychic betting.  Now that being said I'm not convinced that psychics are all fakes and phonies (even though I certainly do believe that vast majority are) I just dont think that they have the ability to be able to see things like the outcomes to certain games.  I think if this were a thing we would have seen it in the news or something already.  Like proven facts I mean.

Most of the examples of Psychic betting or services which have anything to do with alledged psychic powers are just a scam. I would not even to consider to give some credit to someone who asks for money in exchange of alledged privileged information.

You make a fair point.  What caught me off guard was reading that about 4 out of every 10 grownups in America buy into psychics.  Reports say there are close to 100,000 psychic businesses across the country that offer things like palm readings, tarot cards, crystal ball forecasts astrology charts, etc.

https://www.aarp.org/money/scams-fraud/info-2022/psychic.html

I guess I was shocked that so many folks put stock in superstitions...

On the other hand, I have seen some cases where people has privileged information and choose to give it away to those around them (after betting themselves) and in some occasions those tips or information have led to people winning money. It is something which is very common in some towns in my country, actually my brother once overheard someone giving that information to someone else in the street and it was indeed accurate.
In that case was the numbers for a roulette game.

Interesting. How do you think they got that privileged information? Were the games rigged or what?
587  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is this the End for BC.GAME? on: November 23, 2023, 02:58:01 PM
Makes me wonder if they really care about dealing with issues players have or keeping folks happy?

At the same time though, that stuff about them ditching the rakeback bonuses and cutting back referral percentages? I mean hey, it is what it is.  Casinos and companies they've got profits and margins to maintain and  can't blame em too much for making biz decisions they feel they need to keep the lights on.

Still kinda stinks for the players though.
588  Economy / Economics / Re: No Correlation Between Academic Success and Financial Success on: November 22, 2023, 08:16:01 PM
I knew kids in high school who took every AP class and studied nonstop but never went far.  Then again, I had other friends who worked hard at school and used that to get scholarships or jobs right out the gate.  At the end of the day, you gotta take risks and keep trying rather than expecting a high GPA to do the work for you.  Privilege plays into it too, no question.  But smarts on their own definitely don't define success or failure.
589  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you believe in psychic betting? on: November 22, 2023, 07:47:41 PM
Do you take these Psychic predictions seriously?

No, I'm not really on board with all that paranormal stuff.  Don't get me wrong, I've heard some pretty crazy anecdotes about it.  However, banking on extrasensory abilities or believing wackos possess special awareness for betting purposes? Give me a break.  Thats just not how I operate.  I prefer playing the odds and trusting the hard data.
590  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Combination of the young age correlated with Bitcoin for the future on: November 22, 2023, 07:17:18 PM
Since he has been working towards this amount for a really long time, I understand the despair of my friend's long wait.
<...>

I would ask him straight up: Dude, what would you even do if you didn't have to work no more?

Does he really wanna spend his days drinking cocktails? Or does he have bigger dreams? Other stuff he cares about? I'd tell him to imagine life without the safety net - no bitcoins, no steady job and  maybe thatll help clarify what he really wants in life. Guide him through this little crisis.  He's gotta sort out his priorities.  Figure out if it's experiences and meaning he's after, or just the financial stability.  I hope he finds some clarity.
591  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: The story of Betnomi.com (Exit Scam) on: November 22, 2023, 07:08:40 PM
You mean he'd reach 100% of the customers instead of being able to say "you had your chance and didn't take it"?
Yes, very convenient rules when they have only one month time to contact him with their information  Wink
But he didn't have to send mass-email to everyone, only to people with positive balance in accounts, and he claims this is not a lot of money/people.

Here are some more lies from Betnomi (Sorsis):

Regarding the suggestion to send an email to users, this is clearly the most effective way to resolve this issue. However, as we mentioned in our initial statement, we do not have access to the database. We do have a limited version of the database that is shared with regulators for compliance purposes. If we had access to the actual site database, we would simply restore the site and allow users to withdraw their funds directly. Unfortunately, this is not the case, and we can only do what we can with the resources available to us.

So, he only has access to a partial version of the database that apparently does not contain user email addresses?! How convenient.
592  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What can help develop promising ideas without having huge resources? on: November 19, 2023, 09:54:38 PM
How do you think it is possible to raise a promising, but not having significant capital, project from the bottom and bring it to high heights in the world of cryptocurrencies? What strategies and actions can help to develop promising ideas without initially having huge resources?

The success of any project really comes down to having a killer idea first and foremost.  Let's be real - if your idea isn't truly innovative or exciting, no amount of smart strategies or hard work is gonna save it.  But a lack of major capital can definitely be a challenge too.  Don't get caught up in trying to do too much too soon; start small prove out your concept on a miniature scale first, then expand from there.

And, most importantly, I hope your promising idea is not about building robots to colonize Mars, because that would be just stupid.  Wink
593  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the best thing that have ever come to you thanks to BTC on: November 19, 2023, 09:28:25 PM
The best thing? The absolute best part of getting into crypto was meeting all the awesome people in the community.  I've made some really interesting connections and gotten to work on some super neat projects that literally wouldn't even exist without bitcoin and blockchain being a thing.  The whole mindset shift that came along with decentralized finance is fascinating to me.
594  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Discussion] Bitcointalk Community Awards 🏆 on: November 19, 2023, 07:18:18 PM
What do you think is better... to divide $7000 between the winners, or to give away 30 cold wallets to the winners and give away another 40 cold wallets among the community?.

Hmm, I think most people would probably just say the bitcoin prize money is better without much thinking.  But if you forced me to pick between those options, it gets trickier.

What if we met in the middle? Reduce the cash rewards split between the winners, and keep the physical prize (cold wallets) for the community members who voted.  That seems fair to me and

The special wallets would still let voters feel invested.  I don't know, just a thought.
595  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [POLL] Are you in profit? on: November 19, 2023, 07:00:31 PM
I voted NO and whoever voted YES most likely is lying to himself  Grin . Like , let's be real , how can one be on profit when he gambles ? And even if he is , he most likely placed 1 bet and ditched after but he can say he is on profit as no one force you to bet extra.

I would say that is hard to break even as well as that requires more gambling , more bets and more risk to take in order to be on even balance between you and the bookies.

Yeah! You get into this loop where just breaking even feels impossible, let alone coming out ahead.  Maybe there's some system out there that can beat the house but for most folks it's just a crapshoot every time.  I can't say Ive found a surefire strategy myself.  Winning anything substantial takes some serious luck.  Even then it's usually gone just as quick.  But hey, it's an entertaining ride while it lasts right? The thrill of those wins, however rare, it's a rush.

My vote is NO.

By the way @cafter you still haven't locked your old thread.
596  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are you in profit? on: November 19, 2023, 06:49:00 PM
This is the opposite for me and that is not only online, but also in real life that people brag about their winnings while never mentioning their losses. I am really puzzled now that this is different for you guys? How is that possible because everyone I know would agree that most people hide their losses or make them smaller as they are, but when they win big there is this one huge story to be told and how this 20 multi-way bet was successful and bla bla.

I'd say it depends more on the platform and why they're on it in the first place.  On YouTube and Twitch for example, you get a ton of streamers bragging about their supposed big wins on gambling sites.  But really they just want more followers and clicks on their affiliate links.

Whereas on forums and review websites, there are way more losers sharing their stories.  Thats 'cause those places don't let you post referral links and  the motivations are different - people are just venting their frustrations or trying to damage the casino's reputation.

It all comes down to the environment and intentions, I reckon.  Many folks exploit gamblers for popularity and money.
597  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are you in profit? on: November 18, 2023, 06:10:03 PM
Most people gambling aren't exactly rolling in dough.  That's how casinos stay in business after all.  They've got the edge over us.

I've heard the stories about people hitting it big, but those are the special cases in my opinion.  As for me? My online gambling escapades haven't exactly made me rich.  Probably just like you... But that's the gambling life, isn't it? Sometimes it feels like the luck's on your side, and then there are those days that make you question everything.

Ever think about calling it quits? Haha just messing around, of course.
598  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Account Frozen Due to Suspicion of Money Laundering on: November 18, 2023, 05:45:52 PM
I was given 72 hrs. to deposit a 100% equivalent of my assets ($74K) to verify my account
which is obviously a scam. Instead of asking me to provide proof of source of income, they
want me to add more money.

By the looks of it, you are obviously not dealing with the real BitMart (bitmart.com) exchange, or it's some form of phishing attack. Hold off on any impulsive actions, like sending them money, until you figure out what's going on.

Can you share more information, such as a screenshot or the full email message? You can redact sensitive personal information. What exactly is the url address of the exchange in question?
599  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why is there so much interest in popular cryptocurrencies? on: November 18, 2023, 04:43:32 PM
Don't get me wrong here, it's obvious that you are shilling for this project, it might affect them negatively and backfire as investors might see this kind of shilling very negative to be honest. If the project is what you say it is, then investors are going to flock and invest their money. But if this is just a way to shill and then they found out that this project has nothing to offer, no innovative approach, then they won't even put a sat on it, just saying.

Not only does he shill for the project, but he is also the creator and owner of the coin.

I am the creator of the project. And read my comment above.

It has to be unique like Bitcoin or Ethereum or any other projects in the altcoin crypto sphere.

Yep! Only an idiot is capable of comparing Bitcoin to a shitty BEP-20 token that doesn't even have its own blockchain. And, the comedy gold moment was when he claimed Monero is the only truly decentralized cryptocurrency. LOL!
600  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why is there so much interest in popular cryptocurrencies? on: November 17, 2023, 09:23:04 PM
Why does the cryptocurrency world focus so much on highly capitalized projects, to the detriment of more promising and lesser-known ones?

Look, I don't think this is really about capitalization of the project.

It's more about what your project could actually accomplish and whether its sustainable and  do you really believe people are dumb enough to throw cash at something that seems gimmicky like that Cogitex shit? AI and space travel, huh? I bet you want to make robots and ship them off to Mars or something, right? C'mon even a kindergartner could probably come up with a better concept than that!

Stop underestimating people's intelligence!
