61  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Lost my 2FA Google Authenticator Code - CEX.io on: March 08, 2021, 11:46:22 AM
The best solution is to maintain a notebook to write you all the accounts credentials including Google Authentication codes and keep it always under you.
An even better option is to use a 2FA app such as Aegis, which allows you to export an encrypted database of all your shared secrets, which you could store on an offline medium such as a USB drive. Then, if you lose your phone and you need to recover your 2FA codes, it's as easy as downloading the app on your new phone and importing the back up.

I absolutely wouldn't recommend Authy. It is closed source. Your 2FA codes are stored in their servers. They collect a lot of information about you, including device information, email address, phone number, IP address, location, log in history, and more. If you lose access to your account, they require full KYC with copies of your ID to recover your account. This is an unnecessary security and privacy risk, for something you can do safely yourself as described above.
Damn I really used to think Authy is a goat of a 2FA app, especially after finding out how bad GA was after I lost one of the 2FA keys. Welp, I am wrong as it seems.

Btw, this aegis, I have never heard about it up until now. I looked it up right now and the reviews seem great thus far. I will check it out, thanks!

Dude you should make a thread of all useful/privacy friendly crypto-services cause I assure you dumbasses like me don't know a lot about it.
62  Economy / Economics / Re: Am I too late to Bitcoin? on: March 07, 2021, 08:03:37 PM
Remember: "not your keys not your coins"! So if you don't have keys, you can't be own Bitcoin, and if you don't own Bitcoin, you can't be a user.
Disagree. Although you don't own it always, a user still spends/saves/uses it.

Many people rely on wallets like coinbase because for them its much easier to just have a wallet that stores their crypto rather going through the "complicated" process of having an actual wallet of your own. But the point is, they still use it. We are talking about bitcoin users, and not owners. It is a dumb debate and argument to exist, but it exists so  Lips sealed.

Quote
According to data analyst Willy Wu, there are an estimated 135 million Bitcoin users worldwide. This is less than 2% of the global population. To put that into perspective, PayPal has 361 million user accounts, Facebook has 2.8 billion monthly active users, and the internet in total has an estimated 4.7 billion users.
Interesting, but are we really comparing a cryptocurrency to a broken online payment processor and to an ethic-less social media platform? Come on, bitcoin is better than that. We are better than that. And the stats mean nothing of the real world. So its a broken record.

I liked this particularly, I can't wait for the next generation to be fed up of people who think using bitcoin is a sin and as such.  Grin

You know, I am excited to see how the next couple years progresses. It is definitely going to be wild. People are opening up to accepting crypto as a legitimate way of diversifying one's assets, and soon its going to be so cool to see people talking about crypto in public once this motherfuckin pandemic ends for good.
63  Economy / Economics / Re: Tweets as Non-fungible tokens (NFT) - Dorsey's million dollar tweet on: March 07, 2021, 03:16:33 PM
Oh this is a very fucking dumb idea. I saw it on twitter, and I don't see a point to it?

Like yeah ok I get Jack Dorsey loves crypto, but come on he can do better than this ridiculously dumb NFT "valuables" thing that he has set up.  Its not just his own tweet, I saw some really questionable tweets getting ridiculous offers and I am no fan of it.

And their FAQ is a fucking google doc: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kBx-HXY8ow_7bElsJZ6Sk3r2V9cQjSRdWFyKCUXZtAs/ ??

Given Jack Dorsey's mind, and his love for crypto one would expect better. But right now the Valuable thing is nothing but a meme to people.

65  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin millionaire lists reasons most will never be rich on: March 05, 2021, 11:58:43 PM
Went through his twitter, kinda insane.  Shocked

To put it perspective:

He bought 381 eth at 131$ a piece. If he sells it at 1.4k usd now, its equal to 530,000 USD.

The bitcoins purchased: ~100. Sell it now, as per preev its worth 4.5 Million.

His twitter is rather interesting however, am no fan of it, but got to say mans got steel balls to invest like this.
66  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: looking for recovery/unlock service for the scam company localbitcoins.com on: March 05, 2021, 10:51:09 PM
I sucessfully verified 3 times already, then after a while they locked my account saying unauthorized login.
Since then I was not able to withdrawal my bitcoins anymore. And Costumer support did not reply.
They ask me to verify again, but the problem was that they did not answered, so the ticket was closed, when I started a new  ticket they asked me to verify again. I fell totally fooled. Now after 1 year they tell me that they just want to steal my BTC without any reason - as you see in the reply.
What the actual fuck?? A whole year??? That is mega fucked by LBC. Goddamn they are making me only hate them more.

I read on the thread that over 1.8 BTC is at stake here?? If its that much of an amount, I would suggest for you to consider legal counsel perhaps? You got nothing to lose anymore. If they already have your money its more or less like what else do you have to lose.
67  Economy / Economics / Re: Why not "COVID" vaccine passports on a blockchain ID on: March 05, 2021, 09:59:22 PM
because centralized database - simple excell sheet with ID and yes/no annotation in second column is good enough in such case. What extra use case bring blockchain here?

I agree, a database would do (not really excel, but you have a point).

I was thinking at first that there's a risk that somebody could alter records there (make fake passports). But then somebody can just add records to blockchain and it's the same result.
And maintaining a database is much much easier and cheaper than for a blockchain.

Let's not use blockchains just for the sake of it, OK?
This.

I don't see a good enough reason for blockchain to come in between of Covid-19 vaccination. Every country has their own way of vaccinating their people; Some of them use centralized medical record IDs that track each patient and their history.

And besides you're forgetting the point that all countries have started their vaccination process, upgrading their system midway through will only be chaos. Also, not everyone is equipped to understand blockchain. People find excel hard, let alone blockchain. I can make so many more arguments but this should suffice.

Read: Not everything needs to be decentralized. Not everything needs to be centralized. There needs to be a bridge across these two.
68  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: looking for recovery/unlock service for the scam company localbitcoins.com on: March 05, 2021, 05:09:39 PM
This is was LBC answered to me, sounds like they scam me without metnioning any reason:

Hi,

Your account is suspended on the grounds stated in our Terms of Service. The more detailed criteria of the suspension are confidential. Due to this you may not trade and the withdrawal of bitcoins that you have in your LocalBitcoins wallet is denied. We will lift the suspension as soon as possible once the reasons for the suspension no longer exist. We have stated all of this in our Terms of Service and you have agreed to it. Thank you for understanding.

---
Best regards,
LocalBitcoins
This is mega fucked. They should have given a reason at the very least.

Could you brief here exactly how and when your account got blocked? Keep in mind, you need to upload your KYC information on the site to trade/withdraw. So if you haven't uploaded your KYC yet, that maybe the reason perhaps(?). I know my account is locked because of KYC.

But what if they delete my account if I go on social media?
They won't delete the account. If they do, sue them.
69  Economy / Economics / Re: The End of Covid Scam? "Governor Abbott Opens Texas 100 Percent" on: March 04, 2021, 09:27:39 PM
I do not know how I feel about removing the mandatory mask policy. It is only going to fuck things up. Its one thing to open up an economy, and another to fuck up the same economy you're trying to bring revive. Given everything Texas has been through the past few weeks, that still does not make up for removing the mask mandate. It is just a dumb public-pleasing statement to me in response to how badly Texas handled the whole storm situation. Its like: "Oh the citizens of Texas suffered alot this storm? Let me remove the mask mandate for my beloved public."

But you know, good for US trying to open up their economy in some of the States, at the very least.
70  Other / Meta / Re: YubiKey optional Bitcointalk login on: March 04, 2021, 08:27:21 PM
Man I would love for a yubikey login. Any login with 2fa. But that is apparently very hard/annoying to code in SMF as this forum is too customized to fit its needs. Now I do not to what length the forum has been customized, but that is the sole reason why there ain't no 2FA yet.

However, the new forum is said to 2FA and other security measures. But when is it coming? Well.
71  Other / Meta / Re: Get Donator status by donating 10 BTC on: March 04, 2021, 06:22:36 PM
While I somewhat agree that the amount should be reduced, at the same time, there's gonna be a lot of resistance from the seniors here claiming that it's not about gaining the title, but rather preserving the novelty (back then when BTC was somewhat more affordable).

I reckon other memberships might not actually serve any additional purpose for now, since Copper unlocks the Full Member privileges, which are pretty much sufficient for an average member, unless we're talking about no-ads or accessing a premium lounge.
Maybe yes, the novelty means something, but come on half if not most of them are no longer active. Its just beating over a dead horse at this point. Also, the benefits of these memberships could be upgraded to numerous things discussed before. For example:
-   Animated signatures.
-   Access to new and private chatrooms and/or boards.

Theymos has said he won't lower the price of those ranks and I think they should be left be as they are, however, I've long been a proponent of adding more titles such as Silver and Gold Memberships that come with the benefits of higher ranks like Full and Hero Member etc. There's multiple benefits to having them in my opinion such as curbing account farming and lessening the market for accounts as people would just buy the title rather than risk buying a dodgy account on the black market. Most people probably struggle to get a high amount of merit these days and the number of people signing up to the forum that will achieve a high rank will probably be very low and will usually only happen to exceptional users so I think paying to skip the queue would be useful in these situations. The higher tier one could maybe allow you to charge your name once as I know that's often something people want. There's plenty of other benefits that could be included as well.
I remember you telling in the past you brought it up to theymos in the staff board, any luck yet?     And I quite vividly remember discussing the potential benefits that these new ranks could include, that too years ago. Oh well. We can only keep discussing about it.

I don't see the point of being VIP, Donator or Copper member.
The first two status are old, not frequent to see them (only few members are active) and might be abused (no longer remember if they can change names or not).
Copper member is interesting mostly for new members here.
I prefer to see a bunch of profiles/custom names like: miner, trader, hodler... rather than being called donator that I obtained when the forums no longer need donations, and surely not having a mineral membership especially not copper.
At this point I don’t see a reason for purchasing these ranks other than the membership being a novelty.

But a novelty at this cost, is it worth considering that it is almost worthless realistically?
72  Other / Meta / Re: [Quizz] My Bitcointalk Quizz #2 on: March 03, 2021, 08:50:15 PM
I tried to do that last time, it was a big failure. At least Kahoot doesn't allow you to do that, there might be a solution, but I didn't know it.
What was the problem exactly? I have taken part of multiple real-time kahoot quizes and the competition is funnnn.

Or OH OH OH, what about a skribbl.io custom session where we draw bitcointalk related drawings?
Mmm it can be fun, but I'm no good at drawing Smiley.
Well if that is the case I am a well established individual commonly referred to as Vasco Da Gama.
73  Other / Meta / Re: [Quizz] My Bitcointalk Quizz #2 on: March 03, 2021, 06:42:09 PM
What the fuck I came 8th.  Sad Choked hard. But fun quiz, always love the shameless plug in between Cheesy

Can we have like a live quiz one day maybe? Whoever joins, joins. Please, please? Or OH OH OH, what about a skribbl.io custom session where we draw bitcointalk related drawings?
74  Other / Meta / Re: Should all scam busting techniques be made public? on: March 02, 2021, 10:25:22 PM
Two topics are inactive. I agree with eddie13's post about no brain. But the fact is that even while revealing all the methods, those who have absolutely no brain, repeat their mistakes again and again.
Likewise with plagiarism. How many examples and instructions for detecting plagiarism are on the forum, these eccentrics still steal other people's articles.
And I agree that if any major fraud is being prepared, it will be prepared very well.
But do you remember the stories with several ICO, where the office was filmed and the actors who successfully advertised their scams here? And they were also discovered, even though all the evidence was laid out in the public domain.
The point is not about active/inactive threads, its more or less about the info those threads possess. And its not just limited to those 3 threads alone, go to the reputation board and every page has some thread about busting accounts.

I get your point, people are dumb, will make mistakes. So not really worried if some people do abuse the information, I am sure they will be caught one way or another. When you have LoyceV, TryNinja and Vod, the community dont got to worry all that much.  Cheesy
75  Economy / Exchanges / Re: For Coinbase Satoshi Nakamoto is a Risk Factor on: March 02, 2021, 08:41:41 PM
The way I see it: let's say that Satoshi was unmasked and is still alive
Any proof of Satoshi would need to include signing from an early address or staked PGP key, among other things. If this was done, then it makes the chance of the 1 million or so coins linked to Satoshi suddenly re-entering the market rise exponentially. While I don't think such a thing would kill bitcoin, or necessarily even dump the price (as I don't think Satoshi, if still alive and with access to the relevant private keys, would try to dump their entire stash like this), what would happen would be thousands of newbies and weak hands panic selling at the news. This would dump the price, which would affect Coinbase's profits, and therefore their share price. It is only logical for them to disclose such a risk.
Even if Satoshi is alive, we all know satoshi is smart enough to protect his anonymity status and ensure nothing related to his early addresses or staked PGP keys ever pop up.

If satoshi's identity were to ever pop up, the chances of bitcoin dying would be significantly less. It would however expose him as a huge target, I would imagine people would want to use satoshi for their own benefits, forcefully.

My opinion: satoshi's identity is definitely known to some people, at the cost of things we don't know yet or ever will. Considering he has had conversations as satoshi with multiple people online at least, there are for sure some people who know his identity.

As for the topic of whether or not satoshi is deserving to be in the Risk Factor category: Definitely yes.
76  Other / Meta / Re: Get Donator status by donating 10 BTC on: March 02, 2021, 03:32:56 PM
Maybe is it time for the price of Donator and VIP ranks to reduce? I know this has been discussed before but then again the price at that time was nowhere close to what it is now.

Please if not that, new rank roles??? Let's discuss!
77  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Omg Help Exchange threatened to get me Rekt! on: February 26, 2021, 11:40:48 PM
Poloniex froze my account threatening they will liquidate my coins if I don't return the tokens.

I got about 2000 MAID tokens still on there and also about 1000 USDT. They cant liquidate a stable coin but can they take it?

Can they legally do this and get away with it?
Well legally or not, Poloniex has blocked a user's access to his/her coins in the past and I wouldn't be surprised if they do so in the future as well. If the money you withdrew is larger than what you currently have on poloniex, you have the bigger hand. If you want to get that money, there is one way: legal methods.

My advice: not worth it. There will immortality for humans before poloniex unfreezes your account. Lost cause.

P.S. Your title is funny.
78  Economy / Economics / Re: Coinbase has filled for going public on: February 26, 2021, 08:31:10 PM
Very fucking interesting. Wonder what they have rolled up in their sleeves following this IPO. Coinbase is going to ridiculed by regulations more than ever, yet it is somehow more reliable to the common John Doe. I hate that Coinbase is the one that the general public loves, but as a crypto-enthusiast of sorts myself: we can do better than Coinbase.

My never-ending disappointment towards exchanges never seem to end; maybe one day- an ultimate non-KYC/decentralized exchange with p2p and good UI will take over us. Alas one can fucking hope.
79  Other / Meta / Re: Should all scam busting techniques be made public? on: February 26, 2021, 08:02:21 PM
Should all scam busting techniques be made public? Well, given we are in 2021, even if you want to it won't matter if you do. There are way too many threads that expose alt accounts.

Exhibit A: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1206112.0,
Exhibit B: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1702409.0,
Exhibit C: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2544574.0

These 3 threads alone are suffice enough for those who want to do the don'ts of the community. Its a lost cause. Same goes for any actual scam investigations, people will look at how frauds and scamcoins have been caught before and will work around it. Too late.
80  Other / Meta / Re: Should the Scam Accusations & Reputation sections be more restricted/moderated? on: February 26, 2021, 04:52:13 PM
Kind of agree, kind of don't. I think the way you're asking for boards to be moderated is similar to how strict the Hardware/Mining board is. And we have seen endless rants on why the threads get threads there, and how the moderators there are basically modernized-nazis.

You also have things like the RIP TecShare thread.
Not saying it's not good to have, I miss him a bit too. But it's in reputation, it's not a reputation thing. He didn't rip anyone off, he didn't steal funds, etc.
Same with Lauda leaving, not a reputation thing.
I think at this point, reputation has become a section about users(and their reputation, alive or not). Reputation is no longer just related to an individual's trade or trust history, but instead much expanded to the user's experience on bitcointalk. Its not really a bad thing, it brings life to the forum.

Overall, the moderation would be better if there are more mods and even global mods. Would solve a great deal of things across the boards.
