One more feature request. Can you add 'get data' function even for those who is not registered or logged in? Use case: I'm a man who needs quickly get some info by transaction id. I don't want to download blockchain, I even don't have time to register. I go to krypte.net, insert TX id and download file.
I am kinda planning this feature, but I am still thinking about how to implement it. Don't you think that enabling this downloads would make it too transparent for the user ? I mean someone could download it without even knowing that he is using the Datacoin infrastructure. This seems a nice feature but not sure I want it this way ... any ideas welcome. Sounds right. Also I thought that your app now cannot know format of downloading file - maybe it was gzipped or rar'ed. It will be implemented by Perl envelope later, but not just now.

A copy of the first Matrix film.
Let's wait for the new envelope protocol before uploading the matrix ... you need to bzip data before sending to blockchain...
Well, in fact you can upload any kind of document to the blockchain, it is obviously advisable to compress it in some form (bzip, zip, rar, 7z, whatever) before uploading because of the fees. Yeah, bzip is not restriction, but it really helps.

Bidji, you gave excellent idea. It will be very helpful and symbolic to get such document into blockchain and announce info about it via different news portals.

How useful is the block chain in Datacoin to store data?
What kinds of files can it store? How large of files can you upload?
Is it easy to upload/download them from the block chain, or does it take many steps?
I'm somewhat interested in this concept.
1. Blockchain is expensive and reliable storage. It costs 50 DTC per 1MB , or 0.05 DTC per 1KB. 2. It can store any file, you need to bzip data before sending to blockchain. You can do it manually, or with special services (see below) 3. Now you can go to https://krypte.net , register here, send some coins and upload files. If you want to do that via wallet (Linux version), you should look into instructions http://datacoin.info/index.php?id=technical-detailsThis feature will be implemented into wallet GUI soon.

Hmmm tried the weekend mining on rpool when i was AFK with both primeminer and jhprimeminer and after submitting several 10/11ch, hundreds of 8/9 ch and 1000's of 6/7ch i got exactly 0 DTC's... Now trying it on the specialized client build for Intel but this lack of a good pool, high difficulty for normal users and unclear info (what i see a lot with new alt coins (ex. unitecoin)) looks to me to keep others away from mining i'm not a n00b but it feels like this -> lets make it extra difficult for new users so we as foundation have a kickstart in coingeneration... this way clearly the foundation can say, we announced everything so its not a premine... but you get the point I got your point. So here are answers. 1. Rpool looks like scam for many users, a lot of them complained about very low payouts. -> don't use DTC rpool. 2. Lack of good pool is not something that 'helps foundation'. Vice versa, it is not good for promotion, and we understand that. There are several miners now: original miner, Palmdetroit's miner (also released some weeks ago), jhPrimeminer (with mumus changes). You're free to create your own private pool - there are enough possibilities just now. Do you see many XPM pools? DTC mining has the same difficulties as XPM mining. Do you think that if it is so easy to get pools? Why there are only 3 XPM pools in that case (and rpool between them)? 3. 2 XPM pools (ypool and beeeer) declined adding DTC . So we need to do all this development from scratch. Main developer works at that. It will not take months, maybe days or few weeks.

Small note: please add menu near 'Datacoin' on page where user gets after login.

greetings
Bter works well for me last days, and no complains from other members.

I downloaded datacoin and was surprised to see the difficulty at above 9. I'm just wondering, is it possible to merge-mine this, or at least to re-use the cunningham chains from the Primecoin block chain? If it's possible, I'd say some clever person is getting a lot of blocks!
That's interesting, and I have been thinking about it also, if in the end DTC could be merge-mined with XPM that would be definately good for the coin, and that would also mean that both coins would share the same difficulty. I can't see a reason why the prime chains accepted by XPM couldn't be accepted for DTC, but they could be chained somehow in the blockchain. Let's wait and see. Yeah, with the same difficulty and merge-mining it can be awesome union for both coins.

You guys have never dealt with an exchange outage before??
Outage - not a problem, a lot of panicking guys here. Hopefully cryptsy will use this downtime to fix some another issues (i.e. negative balances )

Hmmm, I'll address this question to main developer. But now blocks generation speed looks stable (near required 1 block per minute or less), difficulty stable too... Really, I need to clarify that with oocook5u.

Total bounty for this service from Datacoin Foundation is 300 Datacoins ! Congratulations!

Yes ! I sent you 100 DTC earlier, now sending you 200 DTC more. Congratulations!

When i look at the orderbook at coins-e it appears to be rly empty..
Is it a display bug or noone using coins-e for dtc trades?
Is there any place else I could sell some?
Coins-e are really empty, you're right. You can use Bter: https://bter.com/trade/dtc_btc

As for me, I spent totally near 3K DTC for giveaways, promotions and donations, and I'm ready to spend another 1-2 thousands

if Coinbase, Bitstamp, btc-e would allow Datacoin to trade on it site that could potentially spike the value of dtc but also bring awareness to this unique concept!
better yet ciphertrade.com will opening up for trading soon. the new trading platform by ciphermine.com
if datacoin could trade on ciphertrade.com that could potentially put dtc in a good position in addition to exposing more of the cryptocommunity to this promising project.
best regard peer2peer360
btc-e answered my mail - they are not interested in adding you coins. The same for bitstamp, coinbase - they're only BTC supporters. ciphertrade - there are few votes for DTC, but looks that they want add QRK\WDC - much more famous coins.

I found a jhPrimeminer source that can be used to mine datacoins. https://github.com/hg5fm/jhPrimeminer. The only changes I had to make were adding transaction.h and transaction.cpp to the project and setting useGetBlockTemplate = false. I compiled using x64-AVX in Visual Studio 2012 Express. To start mining you need to open the debug console on your server wallet and put "setgenerate true 0". Now you can point your miner at the wallet and start mining. I tested on testnet with a few PCs and watched the mined blocks roll in. I have been running on mainnet on all my PCs for about 24 hours and I mined one block so far. How to compile it on linux? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=344860.msg3895599#msg3895599

Hi community, Datacoin Foundation starts here. Datacoin has great potential, but now it is too small. We need more services based on 'storage' feature, we need promotion, exchanges, DTC as payment methods. We need to pay developers and promoters, stores and exchanges, VPS providers and economists for their work. We have some DTC on our first donations wallet, but interest to DTC is very high, so we need many coins to reward all for their work. Today I'm starting this foundation. All our spending history will be transparent and listed both here and in appropriate thread. Bounty thread there: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=365049.0Main Foundation wallet: DLWZkPHZJ3hkX3mC4KoJJXvGbhwMeqMncF
