The waiting times can be frustrating but the longest I've had to wait is about an hour - more than 5 hours is a joke!
606  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to start out with no Bitcoins on: December 29, 2013, 01:55:41 AM
I would advise simply investing in BTC - mining Bitcoins is very hard now.

Alternatively mine and alt currency and convert to BTC.

I mine Anoncoin as I like the coin - not purely for profit - mined EAC for a few hours yesterday and got 2010 but I dedicate my small rig to ANC - get about 1.5 a day - not a lot but it more than covers costs  Wink

It's 100% not worth mining Bitcoin with a GPU you will use way more power than BTC you generate - it may be profitable for Litecoins however this will depend on a number of factors - you investment price - electric costs etc, do the calculations and you should get your answer.

There is a section on this forum for alt currencies.

It's pretty easy to find and there's loads of info on there.

615  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why the difference in exchange rate for USD between Mt Gox and BitStamp? on: December 28, 2013, 03:31:48 PM
Thanks for your responses to a Newbie.

Seems pretty clear that $ are currently more viable than BTC. Frankly I'm more interested in increasing my $ holdings than BTC - maybe this will change in the future, but at this time BTC are too illiquid and WAY too speculative. That being said, it is also a VERY interesting development and fun to dabble in! As with most things, I expect a few people will make lots of money (shrewd exchanges like MtGox) and lots of people will lose money. Of course it is only money...

It can be a pain getting hold of BTC but that's where the future is!

617  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is the growing list of altcoins diluting them altogether? on: December 28, 2013, 02:56:59 PM
There are some good alts - don't get me wrong - but there are far too many unnecessary ones which really cause as a distraction from the real issues of get crypto accepted by merchants the world over.
618  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What're you opinions on Catcoin? on: December 28, 2013, 02:27:59 PM
I think it's sad that there are so many coins coming in to existence - it could be little confusing for newbies!
