601  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: MasterCoin Buyer/Seller Thread on: September 05, 2013, 10:44:11 PM
I'd be very thankful if somebody could take a look and let me know if my approach is correct.
I'd like to transfer 2500 Mastercoins from address 14S5bE4ZGbb4oMXsnNn4zErdKBN5Lyiihb to a new address 1CPgYTdPm4tFNMb5dxeXjeTosvhJq6WgBf

This is the output from MastercoinAdvisor (Mastercoin-explorer.com gives the same result):

Quote
The Exodus Address:    1EXoDusjGwvnjZUyKkxZ4UHEf77z6A5S4P
The recipient address: 1CPgYTdPm4tFNMb5dxeXjeTosvhJq6WgBf
The data address:      1CDN7bX4Gi3wn7nEScchcZSt7drWxDChtf

data stored was: 007b00000000000000010000003a352944000000007f81e6ec

So I would now transfer 0.00006 BTC these 3 addresses, making sure that the sending address is the address currently holding the Mastercoins (14S5bE4ZGbb4oMXsnNn4zErdKBN5Lyiihb).

Does this look like it will be working?

Looks good as long as the transaction comes from 14S5bE4ZGbb4oMXsnNn4zErdKBN5Lyiihb - the safest way to ensure the sending address is to transfer all your coins there before you do the send.

The elite way is to transfer the exact amount you'll need there, including the transaction fee, so that there's no change address. In my experience bitcoin-qt always picks that address if it has exact change. This doesn't really change anything functionally, but it looks cooler. Smiley

Also, make sure you send them all at once. The spec originally called for being able to send them one at a time, but nobody has done it that way yet, and it may be unsupported.
602  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: OFFICIAL LAUNCH: New Protocol Layer Starting From “The Exodus Address” on: September 05, 2013, 10:28:34 PM
Tachikoma or dacoinminster: what about one of you starting a dedicated thread for discussing mastercoin-explorer?

I think yes, but not right now. Currently, I believe this is the most important thing going on with the project!

I checked my Bitcoin-QT wallet address used for Mastercoin, got 500.0 purchased, missing fractional Mastercoin, about .719 for about .00729 BTC on second transaction. I tried copy and paste transaction ID fro wallet, to get details on both transactions, got

"Sorry, it seems my blockchain is still catching up or the transaction does not exist."

Any thoughts?

Please post your address(es) and transaction ids so somebody can take a look.

Another question, can I safely add a new address to the same Bitcoin-QT wallet instance to receive Bitcoin since I dedicated my existing only address to buy Mastercoin?

Yes. It would be quite difficult to send MasterCoins by accident. You can continue using your bitcoin wallet as normal.
603  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: MasterCoin Buyer/Seller Thread on: September 05, 2013, 09:41:46 PM
Hey guys,

Bitbird & I have a deal...

Bitbird,
1) Please use Tachikoma's tool to verify I have around 7000 Mastercoins at my address 12bDX26J84x545pzfSZouULeqjfBtAe9Lv.  I'll be selling you 1000 of these.  I bought these directly via the Exodus address.

2) Once you're satisfied I own the coins, please transfer the 25 BTC to my receiving address 1LqVYQunBMCmiiNzY62Z6oYPzwM2hGE38h.

3) Please provide the BTC address you want to receive your Mastercoins at

4) Once I receive the BTC, I'll post the details that Mastercoin Advisor gives me to have the community verify the data, and then I'll make the transactions from my bitcoin-qt wallet.

Cheers!

* Also whilst I'm a man of my word and don't want to be a PITA, BTC has tanked ~10% since I made the offer making the trade 10% less valuable to me.  I'll still honor it but Bitbird mentioned it may take a few days to respond - if BTC tanks substantially further before receiving the BTC I reserve the right to withdraw this offer - sorry guys.

Looks like that address paid 30 BTC on 8/16 and another 30 BTC on 8/24. Looks like you'll be turning a nice profit! Smiley

No sends from that address yet. Looks good to me.

I'm really pleased that I can already claim that all my investors have more than doubled the value of their investment. And we're just getting started!! Smiley Smiley Smiley
604  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: OFFICIAL LAUNCH: New Protocol Layer Starting From “The Exodus Address” on: September 05, 2013, 07:11:21 PM
OK I did find one outstanding issue with mastercoin-explorer - it still counts the same address multiple times in one purchase. For instance, on this transaction:

http://blockchain.info/tx/52a875a46d7973760974b2ae8fa7bb71bfe7d06e0be8fd2bf2e20eaca182dbd7

When I enter the purchasing address (196V2uB471HoMHwbkQRQRiwd3aYpU6RtWg), I get "Bought 210000.0 Mastercoins and got a 88206.42361111111 Mastercoins extra."

The buyer sent 420 BTC with 5 inputs of 100 BTC each and 80 BTC change, which should have been 42000 MasterCoins plus a bonus. 42000*5 = 210000 which implies each input is being counted.

Probably related is the bug in the handling of this purchase: http://blockchain.info/tx/37992e445c33dd74a1e4e00dabb6a66f16a5d39977a1f5fd1a6c0154e884eee2

15XJoDF4xCUrWX3ES9ftWq3wnGhuRsqrLk (which had the largest total input) should be the owner of those MasterCoins rather than 1G6F8aMJNp3zMG9L1DxDT3WjiUntJYwYka (which had the largest single input). MasterCoin-Explorer incorrectly credits the latter address with the purchase. I realize I need to be more clear in the spec about how to do this!

Also, a quibble: MasterCoins are only divisible to 8 decimal places, so calculated bonuses should be rounded off at that precision Smiley

Thanks!
605  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: OFFICIAL LAUNCH: New Protocol Layer Starting From “The Exodus Address” on: September 05, 2013, 06:55:53 PM
I've just updated http://mastercoin-explorer.com/.
[..]
Edit: There was a small bug right after posting this where it would set currency_id to 0 and 1 instead of 1 and 2. This has been fixed.

I am checking one of the first tx to 1EXoDus address from:
https://blockchain.info/address/1PA8qhEzW7to6EeqBAdhVZYGbVj2MfmN2n
which was 16BTC and it happened 2687249 seconds (around 31.1 days) before 1.9.2013.
The bonus is then 10% for a week, which is 10%*2687249/(3600*24*7)=>44.43%
[this fits to 4 weeks = 40%]
or in dacoinminsters:
160000000000+71091243386=231091243386
which is:
2310.91243386 mastercoins

Comparing to the mastercoin-explorer:

http://mastercoin-explorer.com/homes?address=1PA8qhEzW7to6EeqBAdhVZYGbVj2MfmN2n
gives:
Bought 1600.0 Mastercoins and got a 699.4835978835979 Mastercoins extra.
This gives 2299.483597884 mastercoins

minor remark: precision of 8 decimal, and not 13.

where is the mistake?

The blockchain.info timestamps aren't based on data stored in the block chain - they appear to be a timestamp set by blockchain.info when they first see a transaction. I also made the mistake of assuming they were from the block chain, and my greasemonkey script also incorrectly calculates the bonus by a small amount.

MasterCoin-Explorer is getting really good. I don't know of any outstanding bugs, but I'm still looking. (see next post)

If somebody wants to make a list of the refunds I need to make, that would be helpful. I plan to make a list myself before I issue refunds to people who purchased after the deadline, but it would be nice to have a publicly vetted list to double-check against.

I had hoped to not refund the people who sent before the deadline but didn't make it into the block chain until after the deadline, but that would make calculating bonuses for those people weird (negative bonus?) so I think I'll have to refund those folks too, as implied by some of the calculations I see earlier in this thread.

The advertisements for buymastercoin.com are a bit of a grey area, but after talking to the site owner, I'm leaning towards treating those just like other investments, to keep things simple.

I'm in the process of finalizing the composition of the MasterCoin Foundation board. If you made a major investment and would like to sit on the board (which has veto power over my expenditures) let me know ASAP!

Thanks!

Thanks!

Is it possible to accidentally spend my MasterCoins?  What does a new MasterCoin owner need to know?

That would be really, really hard. I don't think anybody could do it by accident. If you are worried about it, check out what is required to send MasterCoins. For instance, this thread where I describe how for buyers and sellers: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=287145.0
607  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: MasterCoin Buyer/Seller Thread on: September 05, 2013, 06:13:08 PM
Hey all,

I'd like to post a sell offer for 1000 Mastercoins for 25 BTC.

Conditions:
1) I'll be sending the coins via the Mastercoin Advisor python tool, and posting the details of each step here so they can be verified.  If JR is feeling helpful perhaps he could validate the steps (cheeky ask I know)
2) The sell offer is a one-off single trade offer.  I'm not prepared to split down into several smaller sales since I'm going to be asking the community to verify the transaction data & process - I don't want to take the p*ss and ask this be done several times.
3) The sell offer isn't negotiable - I have strong beliefs this project is going to do really well and will easily surpass this price but I think that will take some time so I'm spreading my risk - full disclosure this sale would be approx 15% of my coins.

Also, please don't troll me or call me a scammer - if you don't think the offer is reasonable that's cool Smiley there is no pressure to take me up on this.

Cheers!

Deal!

Selling MasterCoins: You're doing it right!

I'm happy to look over transactions, but you might have to wait a few days for me to get around to it, depending on when you post. Others here are also capable of taking a look.
608  Other / Meta / Re: what is the definition of an altcoin? on: September 04, 2013, 11:32:23 PM
I'm the guy behind MasterCoin. Discussion of our impact on the bitcoin block-chain, and how that can be improved, is here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=284178.0

I'm not sure whether bitshares deserves the "alt-coin" label or not, but I will say they are a heck of a lot more innovative than any other alt-coin I have seen. I think they do have their own block chain, which is maybe the differentiating factor the mods are using.
609  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: MasterCoin Buyer/Seller Thread on: September 04, 2013, 10:49:26 PM
Sigh.

Why oh why didn't I make this a self-moderated thread?

Oh well. Sorry guys. You know where the ignore button is.

Also, thanks to bitbird for playing market-maker. I hope you make a good profit!
610  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: OFFICIAL LAUNCH: New Protocol Layer Starting From “The Exodus Address” on: September 04, 2013, 07:45:26 PM
Hey J.R.

What about using a service/tool like https://www.coinfunder.com/bounty for the coding contest?

btw, we should open a new forum thread for developers and leave this one for general Mastercoin discussion.
Manuel

That's a pretty slick site. I'm guessing we won't use it though since we would presumably need them to hold the money. (Not that I think they are untrustworthy, but accidents happen and people get hacked all the time)
611  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: MasterCoin Buyer/Seller Thread on: September 04, 2013, 07:33:18 PM
How can I check the amount of Mastercoin I own? (I sent to Exodus address very early in August)

Also, what is the ETA on the stable wallet?

Someone created this site to check on your Mastercoin balance by inputting the sending address. I'm not up to date on the main thread so unsure about your other question.

http://mastercoin-explorer.com/

There are still a couple outstanding problems with the numbers reported by this site. Hopefully they will be fixed soon. (For MasterCoin purchases with multiple inputs, it credits all inputs with owning the MasterCoins, instead of just the largest input)

Also, it crashes if you enter a tx that it doesn't have in its local block chain yet.

Here are the sends for the people on page 3 of this thread. Sorry - it may take me a a few days to get to all of you!

159Pn4dRb4EoXK71hkPCDhHreS5uHaZT45

tweeted it via http://twitter.com/coinforest (it's buffered, but should be up by the time you see this).

Additionally, I've asked you a question on Quora: http://www.quora.com/Bitcoin/How-does-Mastercoin-improve-on-the-existing-Bitcoin-protocol.

Here what I can do:

1) I can modify the question to another wording if you like. Quora is badass with SEO, so if there's a keyword you're looking for, that would be good to include.
2) I will use the "suggest edits" feature to help improve the post prior to promoting.
3) If you answer that question, I can invest 6000 of my hard won credits  to promote the post to 1200 people.

Note that Quora is not a hotbed of bitcoin users (not sure why), but it is full of computer science types, who may appreciate the concept. There are also a shit load of start up types, some angel/VC might smell blood and a "get in on the ground floor" opportunity.

Nice!

Hi,

Wednesday I will be back to base from vacations. I will tweet @klee1977, pin post on my FB group UbiCrypt (see sig) and in my Wordpress blog ubi-crypt.com (it will be the first post and it will cover MasterCoin!).

Cheers.

I see the tweet and FB post, but it looks like the blog post didn't get posted. Still pretty good though.

I just found out about this via the coinbase article (and tweeted it here: https://twitter.com/lukestokes/status/371612919579942913 ). Though I didn't link to the thread, the coinbase article did. Hope that counts. I'm not even half-way through the launch thread, so I'll be holding off on promoting it until I learn more. I do like the idea of building something on top of Bitcoin instead of competing directly with it.

I've written some other Bitcoin blogs posts as well.

I see that there have been a couple transfers of MasterCoins since the end of fundraising. Presumably those were MasterCoin sales.

I think it would be awesome if those of you who have actually made a purchase or a sale would publish the price here. That would help others establish a reference for what the going rate is.

The lowest price I have seen here is double what people were paying at the end of the fundraiser. That's pretty nice for my investors, but less nice for those of you who missed the deadline.

My domain masterblockchain.info is now ready, I need motivation to start coding.

Need to iron out the specifics. Hopefully within a few days.
615  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: OFFICIAL LAUNCH: New Protocol Layer Starting From “The Exodus Address” on: September 04, 2013, 02:54:05 PM
Tachikoma, you think you can implement this?

It's on the todo-list. The main problem is that this is actually very hard to figure out because there are different cases to account for.

If you want to check the balance of your account and you did not buy from the Exodus address I first need to backtrace the transactions to your address. I need to make sure that address _did_ buy from the Exodus address and that at the time he did the transaction to your address he actually held enough Mastercoins for the transaction. This is not an easy feat when you consider the tons of data that are in the bitcoin blockchain and the fact that ever Mastercoin transaction is pretty much virtual and might not or might have happened based on how a client implements these cases.

I think the foundation needs to set up some test vectors to make sure every implementation of the protocol works exactly the same or else you might have 100 Mastercoins using one client and zero using an other.

Parsing the block chain for MasterCoin transactions and tracing their ownership though various protocol events is easily the hardest piece of work. Hopefully it helps that all MasterCoin addresses "mention" the exodus address with a tiny output - that should make them significantly easier to find Smiley

Also, I'm holding my MasterCoins as a long-term investment. I might have to diversify someday, but you need not worry about me dumping MasterCoins onto the market any time soon.  I've gotten several PMs asking me to sell them some of my personal stash (because people trust me to get the details of the send right), but I've been sending those folks to the buyer/seller thread.

If I take an action which impacts the market, it will probably be an upward impact. The MasterCoin Foundation needs some MasterCoins (to use for bounties when people would rather have MasterCoins than bitcoins), so we may use some project funds to purchase MasterCoins on the open market at some point Wink
616  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: OFFICIAL LAUNCH: New Protocol Layer Starting From “The Exodus Address” on: September 03, 2013, 11:12:55 PM
(I think) I've fixed the reported problems when calculating coins bought with multiple inputs and updated the url to the easier to remember http://mastercoin-explorer.com/.

The next feature I will add is a (webbased) Mastercoin Advisor clone so everybody has easy access to it.
That would be great!

Daaaang.

You'll have a big head start on the coding contest! Are you angling to get hired by the MasterCoin Foundation??

edit: It looks like this one is still wrong: http://blockchain.info/tx/b23037c9e680f0f7033f547bc1ddcb7eb08f8170bf7be221d90ad1f21050e2b5
That transaction has two input addresses, and it appears that mastercoin-explorer credits them both with the same purchase (should only be the larger input that gets credited).

Also, this recent send appears to crash the site: http://mastercoin-explorer.com/transactions/4cad027f03f984d7745c077820617318c7553a90ca64be56e78217fc18cf4ea5

That site is so freakishly awesome! I can't wait to see where this is going.

When will MasterCoin have a proper exchange with charts, volumes, order books...?

The exchange will be distributed, but I expect there will be software and websites which display the order book and charts based on what is in the block chain.

If you want to take a shot at it, you could make a lot of money in our upcoming coding contest, briefly described here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=265488.msg3065262#msg3065262

Here's my reply to a PM I got from somebody worried that their MasterCoin address wasn't showing up in Bitcoin QT:

Quote
Hi,

First off, I am EXTREMELY sorry for taking up your time with such an amateur question.  I'll make it quick and if I don't get an answer I promise I will not be offended.  I don't want to post in the thread and reveal my addresses and I don't want to look silly if I'm making a supernoob mistake.

I sent .XX BTC to the exodus address from my QT wallet.

The blockchain is showing it coming from an address that I don't have in my wallet "RECEIVE" area.

<address> is not in my address list for receiving BTC...  I thought using my QT wallet would allow me to send/receive with the same addresses.

again, apologies if I am missing something super trivial about bitcoin and wallets... I'm semi-new here.

 so are my MasterCoins un-retrievable?

thanks,
---

Probably the coins came from an address which previously was used for receiving change. Those addresses don't show up in the list of receiving addresses.

Don't worry - even though the address doesn't show up in your list of receiving addresses, you can still use it for MasterCoin. The same steps apply.

I expect that others may have had this question, so I'll remove your details and post this to the project thread.

Thanks!

Dacoinminster can you verify for me the following two transactions I did in the Exodus address? I used 0.0001btc fee.

In http://mastercoin.bysh.me:3000/ I get an error!

Aha!! Nevermind I used the addresses instead!!!

These appear to be Exodus Address purchases. That website will (incorrectly) tell you that all input addresses own MasterCoins (only the address with the biggest contribution owns MasterCoins), and it will double-count if the same address shows up as multiple inputs . . .

You should all bug him to fix these issues, then you can actually use that website for the purpose you guys are trying to use it for Smiley
It provided correct results for both my transactions (purchases) fyi...

Yeah, those particular ones look like they were interpreted correctly Smiley

In order to use this source code, you will need to install python 2.7 and also pycrypto for python 2.7, which I got here: http://www.voidspace.org.uk/python/modules.shtml#pycrypto
This is for Windows only! Any Mac version?

Heh. For python, yes. I have no idea about pycrypto. I would assume there is something available for Mac.
