601  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk forum holding 125 BTC on: April 05, 2021, 03:14:11 AM
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on either of those points.
You are not wrong. According to mexxer-2 post from 2016, a portion of the 25% of the bitcoin the forum generated through ads was intended for mod payments according to a formula. If the formula is correct, the most active moderators earned 0.3% or more per month, each. This was confirmed by Quickseller further down in the thread.
As far as I can tell, the percentage is now higher than 25%. The ad auctions are not bringing in much bitcoin right now and the forum has grown enough to need a lot of mods. My guess is that the mods get nearly all of the forum ad revenue and hosting is paid for out of the forum’s reserves.
Do you really think so?
The last mod payment resulted in the mods getting a total of 0.1844BTC, and was sent in the middle of March. I looked at the previous ad auctions going back a month (based on the end date) prior to the mod payment being sent, and the forum received a total of 0.325BTC from selling ads. So it looks like last month, the forum spent about 56% of their revenue on mods. At current prices, that leaves about $8100 to pay for hosting, and any other expenses the forum may incur.

I am not sure how much hosting costs the forum per month, but it is probably a decent amount based on the amount of traffic it gets.
602  Economy / Services / Re: I need kyc verification for probit korea account on: April 01, 2021, 10:15:49 PM
Are you located in North Korea, and are trying to open an account at a website that does not allow people from NK to use their services?
603  Other / Meta / Re: Is it time to change some negative trust ratings to neutral or delete them? on: April 01, 2021, 10:11:23 PM
I think the 1st case is a good example as to when the admins should remove a rating someone else left. This is based on the following:
*Zepher clearly stated the rating was intended to be temporary
*Zepher clearly stated he would remove the rating once the account was restored to its prior owner
*It appears the prior owner is now back in control of his account
*Zepher is no longer with us unfortunately

This may be a bit of a moot point in this case because the person in question has not posted since he recovered access to his account.

For examples 2 and 3, it is probably a fair argument that TMAN and zepher should reconsider their ratings if they were using their forum accounts and still with us, but this would be ultimately up to TMAN and zepher respectively. If the admins were to remove these ratings, they would be substituting TMANs and zepher's judgement for their own.
604  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: WARNING! Stay away from Blockchain.com wallet! on: April 01, 2021, 10:05:08 PM
Custodial Web wallets,
Well, we have a perfect policy. [ not your key, not your crypto ]

I don't think blockchain.info/.com actually has access to your keys. My understanding is that your keys are encrypted locally, and your password (and 2nd password, if applicable) is needed to decrypt your keys locally. Your keys will never be decrypted on their servers, and are generated locally. The above assumes you are accessing an unmodified version of their online wallet. It would be trivial for them to serve you a modified version of their wallet, although if you looked at the code, you could detect this.
605  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to prevent lost of 2FA key on: April 01, 2021, 09:51:13 PM
Okay, I think I've lost my setup key but I still have my phone and access to my codes.

Is-it possible to get back this key, or I must export to a new account ?

You can disable, and subsequently re-enable 2FA in order to get a new setup key.

First, you use a 2FA code generated by the authenticator app to disable 2FA. Next you enable 2FA on your account, the service will provide a new QR code and new alpha-numeric code that you need to load onto the authenticator app. This will be different than your previous code, and your previous 2FA codes will not work, so be sure to add this to your authenticator app. Before navigating away from the page with the QR code and alpha-numeric code, make multiple backups of this code in case you lose access to your phone.
606  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How long until we are all forced jabbed with the vax? on: April 01, 2021, 09:43:54 PM
There's already been discussions from some California schools that I've been reading about which essentially say that your child must be vaccinated in order for them to return to school -- remember, the Moderna/Pfizer vaccine has not gone through clinical trials for children, the median age was in the 50's for a participant of the clinical trial. And you can be fired from your job if you refuse to get the vaccine. So yes, we are down the road of forced vaccines.
Forcing people to get vaccinated is not without precedent, there was even a Supreme Court case, Jacobson v MA (1905), in which the SC ruled that states have the authority to enforce vaccination laws. This was on the state level, not the Federal level, and I am not sure a national vaccination law would be constitutional.

While I plan on getting vaccinated, and recommend that others do the same when it is their turn, I don't think it is wise to force people to get vaccinated. There are risks to getting the vaccine, I believe the benefits outweigh the risks by a large margin, but this is something people should evaluate individually. I believe trying to force people to get vaccinated will only delay getting enough people to get vaccinated in order to eradicate the virus. Right now, demand for the vaccine outweighs the supply, so trying to force people into getting the vaccine will not do anything currently.
607  Other / Meta / Re: Introducing NFTs for forum members on: April 01, 2021, 09:34:30 PM

This is the most generous offer I have received so far.
Well guys, who's got more to offer?  Grin
I bet you could probably get actual BTC out of that NFT. You could list it at x000 BTC on the forum marketplace at a time your buyer knows it will be listed, and your buyer would send you actual BTC in exchange for you telling him when you will list the NFT
608  Other / Meta / Re: Introducing NFTs for forum members on: April 01, 2021, 09:02:16 AM
satoshi-IX (1000000 BTC)  Shocked

Best NFT I've ever seen Cheesy
Who was able to get the satoshi NFT?

Whoever gets this should get an actual prize.
609  Other / Meta / Re: Withdraw BTC from forum account on: April 01, 2021, 07:59:08 AM
Mentioning @theymos to let us able to withdraw even just the BTCBTCBTC not the nfts

Well, we already know that he's been working on implementing KYC, which would of course be necessary for such withdrawals to happen.
I am fine with submitting KYC docs based on the amount.

Don't hold your breath..... Theymos just scammed me out of 1337 Bitcoin!
I sold tNTFs LoyceV-IV to LoyceMobile for 1337 BTC, but didn't receive anything! The sales price was even higher than I asked for it. It's a scam!
You were trading with your alt? 😱

I am having trouble finding a way to request a withdrawal of the BTC I received while selling some of my NFTs.

I guess that they may be somewhat like PayPal bitcoins. You'll be able to spend those coins at the other merchants within the forum.
You can trade PayPal bitcoin to real dollars. I would be okay with dollar equivalent in tethers or to my PayPal.
610  Other / Meta / Withdraw BTC from forum account on: April 01, 2021, 04:04:35 AM
I am glad to see the forum return some of it's bitcoin to forum members as part of the annual April Fool's prank.

I am having trouble finding a way to request a withdrawal of the BTC I received while selling some of my NFTs.

While I am still having trouble with my BTC balance, I would like to request a withdrawal of my displayed balance in my wallet to the address in my profile.

I would also like to inquire if I can withdraw my NFTs to my personal wallet on some blockchain?

Thank you (increasing my politeness score).
611  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Lockdown Policy, can it be viewed as an infringement on our Human rights? on: April 01, 2021, 03:48:44 AM
Your opinions are very much needed as always;

(a) Would you consider the government's Lockdown policy and strong restrictions on people’s movements an infringement on human rights?

It is an infringement of rights, but so is a lot of things.
Of course the lockdowns are an infringement of people's rights. The purpose of the lockdowns were/are to give more control to government.

The concept of using lockdowns to slow the spread of covid came out of China/the CCP, and their history with human rights should be all that you need to know about the matter.
612  Other / Meta / Re: Introducing NFTs for forum members on: April 01, 2021, 03:39:10 AM
I just bought Quickseller-VI for 1 BTC ...  Someone was engaged in an unsuccessful illegal sale. LOL
Congratulations on buying a piece of history from one of the best forum members the forum has ever seen (it is on the internet, so it has to be true).

There is no such thing as an illegal sale with regards to NFTs. Who is to say that I didn't just want to list a NFT at a good price for a lucky person to get cheaply, for the low cost of ~$57,000?
613  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: When is Authenticator code needed? on: April 01, 2021, 03:36:06 AM

I was unaware that I was given any recovery codes.

When you first setup authenticator, you were shows a QR code, and a string below. The QR code was that string plus some additional meta data. The string is what the authenticator app needs to calculate the code to display when considering the current time. It would have been best for you to have saved that string outside of your phone, so you can load the code onto a new phone if your phone were to get damaged or stolen.
614  Economy / Reputation / Re: THE TRUST SYSTEM: Are Counter-Feedbacks Counter Productive? on: April 01, 2021, 03:25:45 AM
I agree with what you wrote but the problem going forward in that situation is that you wrote: "If Sally excludes Sam from her trust list, the impartiality of the situation may be called into question and she may find herself excluded by other forum members"

If that is the case then those members backing Sally could be inclined to exclude all the members that excluded Sally as well as those that left positive counter-feedback, the cycle in that scenario will be continuous.

Well hopefully the forum will not become tribalized so much that anyone who excludes Sam will get excluded themselves by Sam's friends/allies. No one should be "untouchable" in the trust system.

These fucking names... Sam and Sally - same first initials, seriously?

Sorry. In the future, I will use names that start with different letters.
615  Other / Meta / Re: Introducing NFTs for forum members on: April 01, 2021, 03:17:10 AM
I sold one of my NFTs, but didn't get any BTC in my wallet.

The prices on these NFTs, and the amount of BTC each person received are ridiculous, even by NFT bubble standards. There is a feature that allows someone to buy a "random" NFT for ~$28.5 million.
616  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Can I use the Blockchain to store infinity messages? on: March 30, 2021, 05:06:45 AM
The reason OP_RETURN transactions are valid is to allow people to store data in the blockchain.
And it is heavily criticized because of what it offers.
The only valid utility I see for OP_Return is when it is used for colored coins, for example Tether where it treats the OP_Return data as a script and by executing that script it can transfer its token from one address to another all built on top of bitcoin. Although that is still parasitic and spammy...

I don’t think it is appropriate to try to regulate how people should use bitcoin. That really goes against the ethos of why bitcoin was created, at least in my opinion.

If you don’t want people to be able to add arbitrary data in OP_RETURN transactions, you should create a BIP that makes these transactions invalid.

I think we both know such an altcoin would not give the same authority that the message is unchanged as bitcoin would.
Then it proves that this feature is not something people want or care about.
That is obviously not true, people have been including random data in the blockchain for years. I am saying a cryptocurrency whose sole purpose is to store arbitrary messages is not going to have value.

I would also point out that if OP RETURN transactions could not include data, people would start sending minimum output amounts to vanity addresses that send some kind of message. This would both increase the blockchain size and the UTXO set.
617  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: anybody tried these hashes out? (wallet.dat willing to exchange) on: March 29, 2021, 08:37:01 PM
To the question of unethical use, we are not talking of stealing somebody's money, this experiment is a part of something more bigger then just money)))

And what's the goal of this "experiment" ?
It could be to see if anyone has researched ways to weaken or break the cryptography of the encryption algorithms that would make cracking the wallets easier than brute forcing each wallet.

That would be horrible experiment because it has ethical concern and uncontrollable parameter. If someone wants to perform such experiment, they should able to control the parameter (such as which software used to generate the wallet and password characteristic) to achieve good result.
I agree with you regarding the ethics of trying to crack these wallets, but there are a lot of researchers who are willing to brush ethics aside for their own personal profit. Just look at all the university professors who are willing to accept money from the Chinese government in secret.

Ignoring the ethics factor, I disagree this would be a bad experiment. It would measure the ability to crack a password intended to secure xx dollars.
618  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Can I use the Blockchain to store infinity messages? on: March 29, 2021, 08:23:19 PM
I get the impression that the OP wants to store a message that he can prove is unchanged. There is nothing stopping an operator of a website from changing content, or back dating a blog post.
That still doesn't justify storing any random messages in bitcoin's blockchain though.
The reason OP_RETURN transactions are valid is to allow people to store data in the blockchain.
A specialized cryptocurrency could be created to store data like this (eg. altcoins such as storej) for this matter.
I think we both know such an altcoin would not give the same authority that the message is unchanged as bitcoin would.

It could be to see if anyone has researched ways to weaken or break the cryptography of the encryption algorithms that would make cracking the wallets easier than brute forcing each wallet. Or, maybe the OP wants to know if someone has developed technology that can more efficiently brute force these wallet files.
