Am I the only one who thinks that 242 isn't quite the doom we were promised?

wait for it

6242  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 08, 2015, 04:17:52 PM
First stage:  Public thinks Bitcoin is a new penny stock scam.

Second stage:  Public thinks Cryptocurrencies in general (including Bitcoin) are a scam.

Third stage:  Public thinks Bitcoin might not be a complete scam (wow, look at that price appreciation!  the whitepaper!  the VC investment!  the Blockchain tech!)

Fourth stage:  Public thinks Bitcoin might be a scam again (wow, look at that price fall!  Mt. Gox implosion!  Exchange hacks!)

Fifth stage:  Public thinks the Blockchain might have some merit, but Bitcoin the currency they are not so sure.  Public is now starting to feel that all Altcoins are a complete scam, especially because there are now hundreds of them.   <--- where we are now

Sixth stage:  Public believes Bitcoin the currency was actually useful and valuable all along, is definitely not a scam, and the Blockchain is awesome.  Possibly one or two Altcoins elevated to "non-scam" status by this point.  Everything else seen as complete noise and not worthy of attention.
6243  Economy / Speculation / Re: SecondMarket Bitcoin Investment Trust Observer on: April 08, 2015, 03:18:32 PM
By the way, even if no investors want to sell for the current price, I would think that some should post offers to sell at a sufficiently high price. No?

What would be the point?  That would be like trying to sell Gold ETFs at a 250% premium to Gold spot price.
6244  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 08, 2015, 02:54:11 PM
^Yep, while Bitcoin price tanked today, LEOCoin's price NEARLY TRIPLED Cool

Just like Auroracoin, Darkcoin, Paycoin, etc., etc.
6245  Economy / Speculation / Re: SecondMarket Bitcoin Investment Trust Observer on: April 08, 2015, 02:51:59 PM
I find it hard to believe that nobody will want to sell.  Surely some will have lost faith and will want to cut their losses, or will need the money for some emergency/

Anyone with $25K lying around to invest in a high risk asset hardly needs any emergency money, lol.  And loss cutters already did so in January.
6246  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: April 08, 2015, 02:41:40 PM
i smile more and more each day knowing that a true understanding of what Bitcoin is and how it functions has now reached critical mass levels.  it's been a long, hard fought war but i think we're there.  we have much to be optimistic about looking forward:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/31qdbc/please_show_me_arguments_in_favour_of_blockchain/

Wow, I'm really surprised how many people get it there!  Is it maybe just few but loud noises (media outlets, VC companies) that give the impression of "blockchain without bitcoin" being the current hype?  Or did sentiment change recently?

It's just because the subreddit has been bombarded with arguments debunking the misconception over the past few days. In thread after thread. The crowd there can be slow, but hit them hard enough in a short timespan and it starts to sink in.

It's been a good narrative for the media to crank up, this idea that "Bitcoin-the-blockchain" has merit, but "Bitcoin-the-currency" they are still unsure.  Notice that this is a slow turnaround from the "Bitcoin-sucks-and-you-should-avoid-it-completely" narrative that they have been spewing for the last year, and this new narrative gives them a clean out from that negative view.

Notice too that they start timing this new narrative exactly when the Bitcoin market bottoms out, and is now on a slight uptrend.

So why would they do this?  So that the media can begin mentioning Bitcoin a thousand times online, with a lukewarm but slightly positive spin.  As bitcoin gains traction again, this narrative will get increasingly more positive.  The internet has a historical component that the media manipulates, so that when they switch back to the narrative "Could Bitcoin the currency be the next big thing?" again, it will seem to those searching online that the media has been talking about the positives of bitcoin for a whole year.  And the sheep will of course follow this blindly.

They do this with the stock market as well, to great effect.

6247  Economy / Speculation / Re: What is your price speculation for BTC at the end of 2015? on: April 08, 2015, 01:55:51 PM
Difficult. If this has been  the turnaround (in January) and we break above the resistance, then we're in for a rise towards a new ATH. We might end up at $2k+ in that case. Otherwise... I don't know... $1xx? :-/

Yeah, the trend looks promising and look similar to the one which happened earlier that pushed the price beyond 1000$, it can be a possibility  Cheesy

Be careful, though. Right now it's a bear-party, again. We'll have to see whether we can go back into the $250s. Although the price holding like it does is pretty promising.

I'd like to see the bear trolls try and crush this rising support line since January.  In fact I double dare them to.

Otherwise, they need to STFU and GTFO

So easy for whales to "paint the tape" when there are no other big players in the market, lol.
6249  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: April 08, 2015, 01:39:48 PM
Hmm, I wonder if Russia is still pissed about that whole "pulling-the-oil-market-support-rug" thing that the US did as retaliation for Ukraine? Lol

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/report-russia-hacked-white-house-213155901.html

How certain can  they be that it's indeed "the Ruskies"?

Pretty sure.  ICE started the oil scam going in 2009, artificially jacking up oil for years.  Then recently pulled the rug (I'm sure the US goberment had a hand in it) and now Russia is butthurt.  Lol.

6250  Economy / Speculation / Re: What is your price speculation for BTC at the end of 2015? on: April 08, 2015, 01:26:57 PM
~400

Still, that would pretty much kick most stock's ass this year in terms of appreciation

Whale trader behavior is so predictable.

Reach down to 240 confirmed.  Get ready for the run up to 270.
6253  Economy / Speculation / Re: The next bubble could well surprise even the early traders... on: April 06, 2015, 06:17:59 PM
Just remember, there was a lot of doom and gloom in Aug 2013 as well.  People then thought that the April-May 2013 rally was still deflating, and that they were still headed down, more down.

Then October happened...

I can completely understand the sentiment, this market is very unpredictable.  People expect the worst with bitcoin, instead of hoping for the best possible outcome long term.
6254  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buttercoin shutting down due to "low interest in Bitcoin among investors" on: April 06, 2015, 12:07:28 PM
Buttercoin.  Stupid name.  No one used them.  'Nuff said.

Now tell me that either Coinbase or BitPay are closing up shop, and I'll start to get worried.
6255  Economy / Speculation / Re: Permabull Party Thread on: April 06, 2015, 11:59:39 AM
Bitcoiners hodl, don't spend/use it as a currency. Except for drug dealers, those are kinda forced to.

My recent Bitcoin spending:

- monthly VPN subscription
- misc virtual servers / domain name
- ordered a neteller prepaid mastercard (and balance was available in 10 minutes, better than the bank transfer!)
- random donations, crowdfunding (find myself donating more since I don't have to give away email address or anything)
- drugs? Wink Nope, unless you count some Modafinil from an Indian pharmacy..

Don't forget $30 discount on $100+ purchase with bitcoin at Rakuten until 4/8!
6256  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will we cross the bearline in April? on: April 06, 2015, 11:52:43 AM
Wary, are you using a linear or log chart with straight lines?

According to my log chart, we already broke the down trend.

6257  Economy / Speculation / Re: We are headed to $50 on: April 04, 2015, 03:34:01 PM

You guys, who are all calling for the moon are the reason we're not there yet. Let BTC "die". Forget it and the pipe dreams for a bit and once most people have either moved on or forgot about Bitcoin it will come out of its slump and make wonderful gains again.

So you're suggesting that the common man (i.e.,  the audience that bitcoin was made specifically for) should just quietly forget about bitcoin... so that whale traders and rich investors can quietly accumulate in the meantime.... and then just pump n' dump on the common man's head in the future when he is supposed to care about bitcoin again?

Ummmm, no thanks.  I'll buy it now, along with the other smart commoners.
6258  Economy / Speculation / Re: We are headed to $50 on: April 04, 2015, 03:14:35 PM
We've witnessed some major changes since the $10-$15 range (besides the pumps), for example: Major retailer adoption, Major VC investments, ETF's and OTC funds.
Bob, it's because of those things coming that you'll likely never see sub $200 ever again.
6259  Economy / Speculation / Re: Permabull Party Thread on: April 04, 2015, 02:51:21 PM
All the bulls that like to ridicule people for not being bullish have probably costed newbies lots of $ in the last 15 months.  I think a lot of newbie investors probably would have sold a lot earlier if it wasn't for all the bulltards in the last 15-18 months on this forum.  I wonder how many people bought at 1000+ and still hasn't sold yet.

How much did you cost people on here in 2011 by arguing bitcoin was overpriced at 2 dollars? The price subsequently rose more than 500x higher.

If there is one thing we know on this forum, it is that your pathetic attempts at manipulation (when you are short) are to be ignored entirely.
It is much more difficult to rise 500-fold from $2 than from $200. I believe I don't need to explain that, right?

1 person x $100 = 10 people x $10 = 100 people x $1

Same relative level of demand, just easier to get there with exponentially more people involved.  And the base awareness of bitcoin is growing exponentially even now as we speak.

This is why the next rise will be a tsunami.
6260  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 04, 2015, 02:02:02 PM
- No legislation on firearms. (They exist to keep the government in control, so the government has amassed more weapons that the entire rest of the world to keep its own citizens in control

I thought the whole idea of the right to bear arms in the US (at least according to Thomas Jefferson) was to maintain a militia specifically to keep the government from getting too big for its britches.

It wasn't so that rednecks could shoot trespassers. It was to shoot soldiers of a corrupt government.

Unfortunately that seems lost now.  It's now illegal to possess the kind of weaponry that will put up any real resistance against modern military arms. Talk about bringing a knife to a gunfight. How about bringing a hunting rifle to modern warfare?

I'm a little older than you and was a child of the post-WW2 era, but I'm sure as a Finn you heard stories of bravery against Stalin's Russia. When you live in the shadow of the kind of regime that annihilates dissidence and imprisons its own citizenry wholesale, it gets a tad scary.

No worries, if needed the citizens will just 3d print FA assault rifles and rocket launchers in the basement.  Not sure how they would 3d print tanks though.  Cheesy
