There's really no difference between this and institutional bulk purchases of commodities, like gold for instance. When the Chinese government imports gold, the spot price of gold is only indirectly affected. You don't see immediate spikes in the paper market. We can debate this all night, but I'm just saying that there is a very low probability that this coin auction will result in any noticeable change in price. It will come and go without much fanfare.
So you're saying this stabilization will continue even after the winners are announced Dec 5th? In my opinion, if there is a prolonged downward movement tomorrow, it will not be the result of the auction winners being announced. Agreed. In the last SR auction, we had prices temporarily depressed from 600 to around ~540 or so. It was blatant manipulation just for the auction. Then after the auction was over, the exchange rate started to quickly climb back up. Everyone cheered, believing that the winner paid way over market price and that the market was reacting accordingly. Then you know what happened after, and here we are today at 370. So the auction will have no significant effect in either reversing a downtrend, or starting/confirming a new uptrend. |

Amazing that a worldwide exchange market can just be completely stopped from all trading whatsoever by a few whales.
Is that what's happening here? No, it makes so much more sense that all trading on all exchanges worldwide comes to a complete screeching halt for several days... that just so happens to coincide with just prior to the USMS auction. (yes that is sarcasm) |

Didn't Tera make some terrible trades on btc-e in the past few months? Like 75% loss One of TERA's last posts was where s(he) bragged of buying 10 bitcoins at $550/each, saying something like "thanks for the cheap coins suckas!" And posted the transaction log to prove it. Then shortly thereafter completely disappeared from the forum. TERA was a dweeb and definitely no shark trader. |

If the purchase is made off-exchange, how exactly would this auction directly affect the market? It's not like the buyer is going to turn around immediately and dump the coins he just bought.
Says who??? This is not a stock market IPO with a lock out period. If they are both below market value why wouldn't they immediately be dumped?? They could always re buy at the lower price that comes from the pandemonium they cause. WTF makes you so sure they won't dump in a full unregulated market? It didn't happen with Tim Draper. Won't happen this time either. Quit being a douche. |

Everyone knows that another year like 2013 will come along eventually. A year when demand absolutely skyrockets again. It's bound to happen. It's not a matter of if, it's just a matter of when. And it won't just be once more, it's bound to happen again and again over the next decade.
Who in their right mind would want to be "out of bitcoin" when that happens? I sure wouldn't. Scaling out on the graphs, the exponential growth of bitcoin will be obvious in hindsight.
Fiat money should be thing that people are afraid of. Also the stock market. But not bitcoin.

Man, will we ever get above 382? Seems like some magical invisible wall right there. No obvious wall, but is there actually any potential reason why we're stuck at exactly that mark? Theories, guesses? ... Depressing isn't it. Not if you listened to the right people...  I'm a long term bull that *didn't* fall for that sad pump attempt mid-November (I learned how this market works a LONG time ago). From the looks of it, many others didn't fall for it either.  |

I'm just gonna leave this little reminder in bold here again, for the third time... Would still love to know what a "fake number" is. It's an artificial market exchange rate pegged by a few (or one) whales, that does not reflect actual real world market buying demand from the Joe Public majority. However, it is not lost on me that the bitcoin market exchange rate has never reflected actual buying demand from Joe Public. Nor will it likely ever. So yeah, whatevs. |
