641  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2012-07-26 cso.com.au - Aussie cops: Silk Road TOR anonymity 'not guaranteed' on: July 26, 2012, 02:24:58 AM
*There were no Australian arrests, however the indictment pointed to funds funnelled through that operation that were sourced from Australia via Western Union.*

Ladies and gentlemen, this is how you get arrested!

How did they suspend your investment?  Huh

Isn't there a chrome extension that will talk to bitcoind and do essentially that?

I developed a chrome extension that talked to bitcoind. Is that mine?
644  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoinica MtGox account compromised on: July 25, 2012, 01:49:19 PM

I feel that this whole episode would benefit from a means of questioning the Intersango Trio, Mt Gox and others involved without the mudslinging and angry rants that account for 80% of this thread. We need a clear and detailed chronology of events (which can then be further interrogated) so that everyone is on the same page about what did/not happen. Clear information about the existence of any investigations or legal action would also be helpful in working out solutions to all of the issues described.

BB.

It all started with the hack way back in May 2012.
645  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is Maria Korolov (Trombly), and why she spreads FUD? on: July 24, 2012, 06:59:37 PM
Don't worry about it. There are plenty of loudmouths who are unable to accurately predict future developments even in areas that affect them.

If you ask them why is it impossible, they might have no explanation as to why it is impossible.
646  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is Maria Korolov (Trombly), and why she spreads FUD? on: July 24, 2012, 03:10:43 PM
I don't have time to look it up right now. But I remember multiple threads about it. You were here then. Don't you remember?

Yes, I been here since before the 1 dollar per bitcoin horizon, but it doesn't means I remember everything throughout my 5255 posts long history.
647  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is Maria Korolov (Trombly), and why she spreads FUD? on: July 24, 2012, 03:04:38 PM
This is not new to bitcoin. Last year someone was paying people to write disparaging articles about BTC, at least some claimed to be approached and there was a huge rash of such articles.  We never found out who it was, but I suggest the Stalin approach. Stalin would reason that when something happens and you don't know who did it, ask yourself "who stood to gain?".
Could be competitors like PayPay or investors looking to drive the price down. Whoever it is/was they must be profiting from it. Why else would they spend their money?

Citation needed? Anyway, paypal is not a "competitor" to bitcoin. The competitors are the governments.
648  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoinica MtGox account compromised on: July 24, 2012, 03:01:47 PM

Its going on two weeks now and there has been no word from Tihan other than that "the fund" will pursue legal action against "bitcoinica consultancy". Whatever legal action the fund takes is only indirectly related to depositors' claims, and I personally don't care. I want to know how and when the owners will process claims.

It may be the reason why you guys are not getting refunded. They may be embroiled in a legal civil war each other trying to blame each other, rather than doing what's right for the customers. In said legal civil war, nobody will touch the funds because their lawyers said so.

And nobody will be talking until the legal dispute is a done deal.

But this is just speculation, and there's no messenger telling us what's going on.
649  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is Maria Korolov (Trombly), and why she spreads FUD? on: July 24, 2012, 02:53:15 PM
She is a crappy writer and nothing brings traffic like controversy.  Bashing Bitcoin is a way of remaining relevant.

Unfortunately, the news industry is full of lazy writers like her.
650  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoinica MtGox account compromised on: July 24, 2012, 02:49:01 PM
We will join any organized legal action against Mr. Seale in the United States, where I think there's a good chance of holding him personally accountable for stealing our money, given the trail of public claims to his ownership of Bitcoinica and his direct access to their USD accounts. Finally, we encourage anyone in Washington State who was harmed in Bitcoinica's theft to file in small claims court against Mr. Seale, which is the easiest way to put his involvement in the public record.

The only reasonable crime you could charge them is extreme negligence, not theft. You don't have any evidence for theft except your suspicion that this is an inside job.

There should be a proper investigation before we can speak about charging somebody, or did you lose your rationality when you lost your money?
651  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoinica MtGox account compromised on: July 24, 2012, 04:26:48 AM
Here is my ultimate nail in this obvious scam.

A real scam would have the team running away real fast to avoid capture from the police. However, their names and faces are known and they are not running away. At least one individual even contributed code to the bitcoin codebase.

Bitcoinica is now managed by Intersango guys but they somehow decide to move the refundable coins/USD over to their biggest competitor MTGOX.

Why didnt they move the funds over to their own exchange for safekeeping, is this perhaps their way of distorting progress by getting an

other exchange involved in this mess, hell only knows.

The intersango team didn't keep the fund, Tihan did, and he did it in the worst possible way you can. Stupidity is easier than intelligent actions.
652  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoinica MtGox account compromised on: July 24, 2012, 04:19:49 AM
They wouldnt want to tarnish the security record of intersango of course by stealing from their own exchange  Smiley

Don't matter. Their reputation is ruined.
653  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoinica MtGox account compromised on: July 24, 2012, 12:39:18 AM

If you're a criminal organization, then yes, it would be advisable.

Nay, if you got any common sense, you talk to your lawyers, period.
654  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoinica MtGox account compromised on: July 24, 2012, 12:38:19 AM
I just tried the LastPass account. I didn't expect to be able to log in, but I was able to using the original credentials!

And LastPass didn't log the IP that reverted the master password. It's so weird.

From my understanding, it doesn't matter if the hacker didn't log into a LastPass account. That's because API key is the same password for a MtGox account.
655  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoinica MtGox account compromised on: July 23, 2012, 11:44:01 PM

Please, I haven't signed anything about Bitcoinica since the end of 2011.

The hacker is anonymous, so they're going to blame identifiable individuals, even if the evidence is sorely lacking.

Any time a hacking fiasco happens, it basically turns into a witchhunt, because people feel extremely powerless.
656  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoinica MtGox account compromised on: July 23, 2012, 11:34:46 PM
This still hasnt been reported to the cops Huh?

MtGox filed a police report, but would not details what they know until investigation is over. Bitcoinica are probably talking to their lawyers about what they should do.
657  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoinica MtGox account compromised on: July 23, 2012, 11:29:09 PM
Sorry boys, but quitting does not absolve you of your liability for this criminal act- each and every one of you, Zhou, Patrick, Tihan et al. remain jointly and severally liable for the debt which you took on, especially since you chose to take it on under an apparently fraudulent basis considering your filings with the New Zealand government. Saying you got voted off the island does not remove the stain of criminal actions, and I hope each one of you is apprehended, charged and tried for the massive fraud that you have committed.

That is your opinion. Care to back it up with facts?

Bitcoin has suffered immensely at the hands of your premeditated acts of criminal diversion of funds, and the on-going lies and misdirection that you have subjected this community to. I hope the victims are filing charges against you right now, and I look forward to hearing how your little investment group gets it's nuts torn off by the police in whatever jurisdiction you are hiding in.

Scumbags all.

Unless you have evidence that this a premeditated theft and knowledge there is on-going lies and misdirection by bitcoinica team members, it have no basis.
658  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoinica MtGox account compromised on: July 23, 2012, 11:23:29 PM
You are right. It's too complicated. And that's why it has to be more in the direction of the second sentence above. I really can't believe all the hacker stories, sorry. Just doesn't get into my head.

A successful hack attempt is the simplest story and have the strongest evidence thus far. All the other hypothesis don't have much evidence and is more complicated to attempt.
659  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoinica MtGox account compromised on: July 23, 2012, 11:10:29 PM
Or it would be a perfect way to make everyone believe one is innocent precisely because one showed good intention to pay back funds.

That's the "THAT WHAT THEY WANT YOU BELIEVE" indirection and so on that is a common feature in a conspiracy theory.

Always remember that the more complex a gambit is, the more likely they will get caught.
660  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Killer App: High Yield Investments on: July 23, 2012, 11:06:54 PM
Especially because the availability of funding with Bitcoin is relatively low. In the fiat world there are trillions sitting around earning near-zero interest but looking for higher yields. In the Bitcoin world this is not so. There are a lot of people that are fine with just holding their Bitcoin and waiting for a price increase.

The flip side is that a lot of people will get burned and a few people get rich and there will be lot of people who don't do their homework.

Fine by me, actually. But don't crying to me if I told you to do your HOMEWORK and you didn't.
