681  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Spammer Blacklist] The Shitlist on: September 07, 2020, 07:23:17 PM
Update:

The farm suppression thread's original list of members was consolidated with the new members, forming a list of just under 300 members.

All of these members have at least 50 good reports against them and the cumulative count is 30098 good reports, which makes it an average of 105 reports (which can be effectively considered deleted posts) per user.

682  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🚀 Sportsbet.io - Proud partner of Southampton FC 🚀 on: September 07, 2020, 03:03:31 PM
The previous two days showed the participant pool dropping by 3 participants, from 76 to 73. Those that were dropped are the following:

Code:
kok****n

zer****n

Remaining participants just got their final prize increased by 4.10%, to 13.69 mBTC

You are Steve from Sportsbet and managing more accounts.
Hopefully, the transparent statistics that I publish don't give you any inclination that I'm some strange alt account.
683  Economy / Reputation / Re: Beware: Newbie accounts which uses other users ethereum adresses on: September 07, 2020, 12:34:40 AM
@Bthd if you are concerned about the linkage between users, just keep this in mind:

If a user A posts an address before user B, then if user B posts the same address they take on the reputation of user A, but not the other way around. This is what I like to call an A->B link. If, however, there is concrete evidence that B is linked to A in a definitive way as well, then you can say that the two share the same cryptographic identity.
Obviously, you don't want people to start using negative-trust accounts to slander other users' names through framing.

So, the update says 139 users are eligible. What am I missing?
139 eliglble, 100 picked. Foxhole problem.

[‎nobbc] can be regarded as a symptom a larger problem, which is just that the process to transform the URL into the proper link is very trivial.

Anything inserted to change the URL slightly can make it pass. For example:

ht‎tps://bitcointalk.org/index.php whitespace between ht tps
ht‎tps://bitcointalk.org/index.php cyrillic о

The leaderboard was not updated on September 4th, and thus the next update will contain two days worth of participant changes.

I don't think that too many people dropped out, though. I don't expect the number to dwindle by more than a few.
690  Other / Meta / Re: Some URL tag changes that has to be made on: September 04, 2020, 01:05:43 PM
4. No referral code (ref link) spam. [1]

5. No link shorteners that require users to view an ad.

6. No linking to phishing or malware, without a warning and a valid reason. [e]

Report posts to mods. I recommend prefacing it with [P1] to indicate high priority. If more adopt the system, this allows reports to be streamlined. (I rank priorities 1-5 from malware to bumps) Smiley

691  Other / Meta / Re: Should merit be disabled on Bitcoin Wall Observer? on: September 04, 2020, 12:20:09 PM
Yes but because of the massive merit inflation on WO, you can basically "like"(merit) every message you see, hence the memes which have nothing to do with bitcoin and such getting merited in WO, which just furthur increases the inflation problem
Just to toss a stick in the pile.
If a DT member tags you for something stupid involving merit (ie. probably anything less than selling merit), then they're not going to be a DT member for much longer.
This one should relate to those cases you mentioned.

Aside from that, if people complain about whether things deserve merit at all, then that's something to perhaps think about, but if you conclude that they're wrong, then that's that. You don't need to stress about it or defend yourself constantly. It's conceivable that someday you and I will end up disagreeing too much about this stuff and I'll remove your source status, but it's really not a big deal.
And this is on merit sources, but it seems general enough to apply to most people. After all, the standards of those that are sources vs. those that are not (in a perfect world) would be equally high.
692  Other / Meta / Re: Should merit be disabled on Bitcoin Wall Observer? on: September 04, 2020, 12:07:55 PM
I kinda dont want the merits to spiral down and turn into glorified like buttons, thats kinda the point of stopping the inflation of merit in WO
Kind of too late for that. People aren't given restrictions on merit, and therefore merit can be sent arbitrarily. I don't tag anymore for merit abuse except in clear-cut egregious cases because of that fact: you cannot accurately determine subjective values via merit resulting in an excess of merit from circumstantial evidence resulting in a conclusion of abuse.

The other thing is, to like someone's post, doesn't it automatically have to have something of substance that connects with you? I'm not going to merit something randomly, am I?
693  Other / Meta / Re: Should merit be disabled on Bitcoin Wall Observer? on: September 04, 2020, 12:03:56 PM
Its not a hypothetical, people have been banned and flagged and distrusted for merit farming before.
There it is! The equivalence between 'merit farming' and the WO thread!

Tell me... what do these users without any merit-based incentives plan on doing with their merit other than to use it in the form of "likes" on the WO thread?

also if merit really doesnt matter to them i dont understand why they would be so opposed to disabling merit on the thread
"I could live with or without an extra lamp. I would like to keep it, though."
694  Other / Meta / Re: Should merit be disabled on Bitcoin Wall Observer? on: September 04, 2020, 11:57:35 AM
Thing is, if me and my friends did the same thing but outside of WO we would definitely get banned, thats my problem here
You are incorrect because you are proposing a result to a hypothetical. For one, I have seen posts outside of the WO thread that are not of "high quality". Shitposts, even, that were merited.

Nobody really gives a shit anymore about merit, do they?
It's also a bit strange to be meriting people like El duderino_ when they have >4000 merit. What are they going to do with it? Roll Eyes

(case in point: merit doesn't matter to a lot of these users)
695  Other / Meta / Re: Should merit be disabled on Bitcoin Wall Observer? on: September 04, 2020, 11:54:26 AM
In that same scenario around 1000 sMerit got sent to Mr. Punkass for posting memes rather than being distributed on the rest of the forum.
Dope. That means that whoever sent the merit decided that it was a proper use of their merit.

Are you going to now start commandeering the merit system to restrict certain people from getting it? How about, let's prevent all Legendary users and above from receiving merit since it's clearly not going to the other members who obviously deserve it.

theymos himself barely even fucking cares about merit abuse.
696  Other / Meta / Re: Should merit be disabled on Bitcoin Wall Observer? on: September 04, 2020, 11:49:02 AM
Scenario:
Some punk-ass loser posts memes all day in WO thread.
Punk-ass loser is trying to get merit in order to rank up so they can farm signature campaigns.
Punk-ass loser spends all his time on the WO thread since they maximize their merit.
Punk-ass loser has no useful posts outside of WO.
Punk-ass loser applies for signature campaign.
Punk-ass loser does not get in.
Usually, people can follow the flow of merit. If a user is accumulating merit and they produce shitty posts, the posts will be reported. If a user produces quality posts, then it is no longer a problem.
697  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why do some miners only confirm their own transaction? on: September 04, 2020, 04:29:28 AM
One possible reason would actually be malice rather than laziness. If one wants to "spam attack" a blockchain, they can continually mine empty blocks with only the coinbase transaction to let the mempool fill up and raise the fee that the average transaction requires with a large number of transactions flooding the pool in conjunction.

You can effectively make the network operate on a higher difficulty if you have these malicious miners present.
698  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How long does it need to confirm a transaction on: September 04, 2020, 03:06:51 AM
I agree with this, well if you are in a hurry you can at least increase your fees. Electrum will let you set your own fees.
Important to note that in Electrum, you can actually see how far your transaction is from the mempool tip when it's still unconfirmed. The XX.XX MB size you can find in the date section represents the distance.

And even if you don't have RBF, child-pays-for-parent transactions work! Unconfirmed inputs can help in confirming the previous transaction if the fees are high enough to compensate the size.

Hah, worked right away. The absolute state of localbitcoins though I finally could get verified there.
Anyway loan repaid w/tip! needed it quickly, thanks again
Confirmed, cheers.

Hey, at least you found a new service. I actually did forget that Paxful also exists, which you can get by with just phone verification. Could be something to look into, as well.
700  Economy / Lending / Re: Changed: Need $30 USD worth of BTC or ETH for 48hrs on: September 04, 2020, 02:33:45 AM
I don't mind KYC if I'm trading huge amounts but under $100 for a traceable payment from a bank is ridiculous. What's the repayment address btw?
3KQGtukhXLtRzcAMFxnvkw9eSMpsnNq9Ps
It is what it is. When you don't have that many options and when you're 1/10th the population of your basement neighbor, there isn't much to do.

ATM fees are still crazy though, aren't they? Last time I went to one it was something around 8%+.
