Nigerian central bank lifts ban on crypto trading
" Nigeria's central bank has lifted a ban on transacting in cryptocurrencies, while saying global trends had shown a need to regulate such activities, the bank said in its latest circular.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in Feb. 2021 barred banks and financial institutions from dealing in or facilitating transactions in crypto assets, citing money laundering and terrorism financing risks.

Subsequently Nigeria's Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in May last year published regulations for digital assets that signalled Africa's most populous country was trying to find a middle ground between an outright ban on crypto assets and their unregulated use."

"Worldcoin, predominantly known for its groundbreaking “Orb” device, utilizes retinal scans to generate a unique IrisCode. This code is then tracked on the project’s blockchain, creating a World ID that serves as a form of “proof of personhood.” Participants in the Worldcoin ecosystem also receive airdrops of WLD crypto tokens, a critical element that ties into the project’s broader objectives. The unexpected move involves Worldcoin’s app integration, utilizing the World ID credential for user verification."

https://blockjournal.io/news/crypto-industry-steps-up-political-donations-as-mood-in-washington-sours/
"Companies including Coinbase, the Nasdaq-listed exchange, stablecoin operator Circle and a16z, the crypto investing arm of venture capitalists Andreessen Horowitz, are directing more funds towards electing pro-crypto legislators and influencing stalled bills in Congress ahead of the presidential election next year. They have been joined by high-profile venture capital and digital asset investors such as Ron Conway, Fred Wilson and the Winklevoss twins.

This week Coinbase, Circle and a16z were among the companies to put $78mn into Fairshake, a federal super Pac that can take unlimited money from corporations and individuals to spend on elections, to be directed to “pro-crypto leadership”. "

Arthur Hayes wrote interesting thoughts:
https://cryptohayes.medium.com/expression-f580605ebccd
"As soon as the TradFi East Coast US baldies got their applications in, the Bitcoin ETF looked a lot more palatable to the US political establishment. Never fade the right kind of white boys in Pax Americana. I guess the Winklevoss twins should have shaved their heads and joined the New York Racquet Club.

Fundamentally, if ETFs managed by TradFi asset managers are too successful, they will completely destroy Bitcoin. This prediction is based on an important subtle yet profound difference between Bitcoin and every other monetary instrument humanity has ever used."

707  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Republic of Suriname is considering a national strategy with BTC on: December 27, 2023, 11:57:09 AM
The scalability challenge of Bitcoin can be tackled by increasing the block size limit. Although it might have some consequences but it is a good option. Another good alternative is to use the Lightning Network for transactions.

It seems that more countries are considering making fair policies on Bitcoin. We got news recently from Nigeria that the government has lifted sanctions on banks facilitating crypto transactions. My prediction is that next year will be better especially if the SEC approves the ETF this is because many nations see the US as their role model. Some unfriendly nations might begin to change the negative views they have about Bitcoin once the US integrates Bitcoin into their financial system.

The adoption of a spot ETF in the US will not be a mass adoption for Bitcoin. In other countries, these ETFs already exist and are not in great demand.
In the US, nothing will be approved until the government has as much control over it as possible and the money leaves the country. If a spot ETF is approved, for many companies the money will not even move to other banks, but will simply transfer to the company's accounts in the same bank.
708  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Signature mixers question on: December 27, 2023, 11:44:11 AM
You report your taxes, but what do you do if the address that pays you had tainted coins, and once you deposit them on an exchange
Give me the official definition of tainted coins. I'll help you: it doesn't exist. There are several companies trying to sell the idea of taint, but it only exists when you believe it. And I don't believe it.
Most banknotes contain traces of cocaine, and that doesn't matter. Fungibility means all banknotes are equal. The same applies to Bitcoin. And just like banks don't want to take banknotes from criminals, exchanges don't want to take Bitcoins from criminals. If you're not a criminal, you'll be able to prove you legally earned those Bitcoins. And you should be okay.
Have you ever encountered the compliance procedure of crypto exchanges?
Do you know how many basic questions you will be asked at the beginning and how many additional ones?
This procedure can only be completed if the coins were purchased legally on a large exchange; in other cases this is very difficult to do.

No offense to Montenegrins (if there are any on the forum), but in that country, as in most Balkan countries, you can buy not only a judge, but also the entire court. It is not at all clear to me why the whole thing is based on an allegedly fake passport for which he was arrested, when there are far more serious charges worth tens of billions of dollars for which this man is wanted by South Korea and the US?
Montenegro's public debt is falling Smiley Hahahah
https://montenegrobusiness.eu/the-total-public-debt-of-montenegro-at-the-end-of-last-year-amounted-to-eur-4-1-billion/

Do you really think that this money should be taken away by the US authorities?
When a guest arrives in such a country with more money than the country’s budget for several years, no one will let him go until this money runs out.
This whole game is just for the sake of money and not for the sake of justice. Investors will not get anything back. It is better that this money or most of it remains in Montenegro.
710  Local / Альтернативные криптовалюты / Re: SOLANA on: December 27, 2023, 11:19:55 AM

No need to quarrel, please!
The only reason I share articles like this is to get you thinking about the future now. I have already said that many mixer algorithms that are reliable now will be easy to read in 5 years, and all centralized services will even transmit data to your tax authorities.
714  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Signature mixers question on: December 24, 2023, 10:20:49 AM

In one hand the taxman of your average developed country will always say to declare and provide context, but on the other hand they will make things miserable if you don't like your explanations. And most people aren't willing to move to some dodgy country. So yeah, not many options there that I can see. If they gave us a peace of mind of knowing nothing will go wrong, a lot of people would do it to diversify in other assets, but since that is not the case, I wonder how many people have considerable amounts in wallets that can only be spent on doing groceries with vouchers, gift cards, or the increasingly smaller set ofs called anonymous ATMS. Bisq and co leave SEPA traces so not that interest. Cash by mail seems dodgy. And meeting with IRL people for cash transactions has massive risks too. And again, you cannot really enjoy those gains, im talking 6+ figures, if you are limited to very small movements to live under the radar, specially if you pay rent and want to buy real state, and diversify and so on. There is no way around paying taxes there and there has to be a way to solve that situation.
I think you need to study more about the laws and instructions for filing a tax return in your country.
I think in any country you can declare small incomes if they are related to non-permanent commercial activities.
In my country, I fill out a special column in the tax return “other income” and there is no point in being afraid of inspections if the amount is small, a few thousand dollars.
The IRS does not have enough resources to review every tax return. Personal communication in such cases is minimal. Usually they can send me a letter asking for an explanation, I write that I translated several texts into Russian and they paid me money by transfer to a card. I won’t say anything about bitcoins, although I will exchange them myself.

Why is this person trying so hard to prove that he's Satoshi Nakamoto? If he was, he could simply login to this forum and make a post and clear it out.
What an idiot I would say. What's your thought on this?
I can assume that if he proves this, then he will own the copyright to this product and will be able to receive large royalties for the rest of his life and live very rich. Or maybe this desire is caused by the wrong prescription of pills from the doctor, and he need another doctor.
717  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Circle Informs Clients of IRS Inquiry Into $20K Annual Transactions on: December 23, 2023, 10:08:30 AM
Is there no statute of limitations on tax liabilities in the USA? In other countries the statute of limitations expires after 4 or 5 years, so for the tax authorities to ask for 2016 data at the end of 2023, almost 2024, would not make sense.

On the other hand, the $20K threshold is fine because the more modest ones get off the hook, although they usually do it that way because investigating smaller amounts is not profitable for them.
I am not a good expert on US tax law, but I know that in the USA there is also a 3-year statute of limitations for tax obligations, just like in Russia.
But there are exceptions. If you underestimated the tax by 25 percent or more, then this period is extended to 6 years.

If you did not file a declaration and hid your income, and therefore did not pay taxes, then you should be afraid of the tax inspectors for a long time. There is no statute of limitations for such crimes.

As far as cashing out earnings from sig campaigns, I wonder how that works in practice. If anyone has any experience with this please let me know.
Each country has different laws. In my country, I have to declare my income and pay taxes every year. In other countries, you are required to report your income every month or quarter.
If you have bitcoins, then you can register as an NFT artist in your country and put your collection on the open sea market. Let's exchange your BTC for Ethereum and buy your NFT tokens and pay the tax.
