701  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam warning - Yomix mixer, turned into an exit scam! on: April 26, 2024, 01:25:22 PM
So what happens when those services become illegal? They all go into the black market, where they ultimately scam their own customers.
My take: not knowing which site is secure will stop users from using them. That's a bonus on top of banning the ones that didn't scam.

I do not understand the mixxer issue anyway. If I wanted to anonymize and launder my money, I would use FIAT.
You, like governments, mix (pun intended) the word "anonymize" and "launder". If I give you a $100 bill, and you give me another one in return, we've both anonymized the money (as long as neither of us talks about it). But if you have $10 million criminal money, exchanging it for another pile of $10 million isn't going to help you spend it. You'll need a car wash in Albuquerque for that.
702  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Segmenting/Reserving Block Space on: April 26, 2024, 01:18:58 PM
but you merited OP's original posting which contained the above statement in bold. and now you're saying you don't like the idea? that seems like a contradiction.  Shocked
Merit doesn't mean "like" or "agree. In this case, it means it's worth reading, and not spam. And I'm loaded in sMerit.
703  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Question about Lobstr Wallet on: April 26, 2024, 01:16:59 PM
Your Bitcoins in Lobster Wallet are actually real. ~ Your transaction is not related to Bitcoin.
Only one of those 2 statements can be true.
704  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Happy 4th Bitcoin Halving on: April 26, 2024, 12:07:43 PM
IIRC, in last halvings there was lull in the price for some time after the halving before the effect of the reduced supply really started to be felt. I wonder if that'll happen this time.
Listening to the Dutch Cryptocast, they anticipated that in about 10 years, the result of the halving won't be enough to make any price changes. I expect the price reaction to be less this time, because the amount reduction is less each halving. But I'm probably not the only one, and the fact that something is anticipated it can influence the result.
705  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam warning - Yomix mixer, turned into an exit scam! on: April 26, 2024, 12:00:25 PM
Could it be their business model changed after the mixer ban on Bitcointalk? I can imagine they lost customers and advertising, which may have changed their long-term perspective into realizing an exit scam is more profitable.

Or:
I've seen many scamming mixers over the years. Until recently, I didn't realize some mixers may just be created by non-scamming bad guys in need of good people looking for privacy. I can't be certain which mixers fall in which category, but by now I think it's likely both exist.
Could it be they were actually "the bad guys" who ran out of "bad money" to exchange, so they decided to keep everything now?
706  Other / Meta / Re: Is Samourai wallet now banned from Bitcointalk? on: April 26, 2024, 08:45:37 AM
Don't be surprised if they even make Privacy illegal soon, that is the way we are going now.
That would mean publicly denouncing Human Rights:
Article 12

No one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his honour and reputation. Everyone has the right to the protection of the law against such interference or attacks.

In this usecase, my fiat bank account has even more privacy since only bank employees and government agencies know how much FIAT money i have, and they won't come to my home to hold my child and my wife hostage untill i give them my visa card and pin code (they have other, less violent, ways to rob me).
I'm already required to report "other" funds, such as Bitcoin, to taxes. And considering thousands of tax employees have access, and the tax authorities don't keep track of who checks which files, I wouldn't be so sure none of them can have bad intentions.
707  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 26, 2024, 08:16:44 AM
About Epoch 0 being the first one, it's a computer programming thing.
In computing, counting starts from 0. 16 bit: 0-16535. CPUs: /proc/cpuinfo > processor : 0. Time: 0:00-23:59. Months and days are an exception, although if you use seconds there are no days, and time starts from Unix Epoch Time 0 (GMT: Thursday 1 January 1970 00:00:00).
I like starting from 0. Even bank accounts follow this logic Tongue
708  Other / Meta / Re: TalkImg.com - Image hosting for BitcoinTalk on: April 26, 2024, 07:19:07 AM
Some changes were made, which should not have affected the script, API or robots. Either way, I suggest you check if everything is working.
Since you mentioned me: all I download are your backups (31 GB so far), and that seems to be working just fine (no new backup yet).
709  Economy / Reputation / Re: Happy to be back! on: April 26, 2024, 07:11:01 AM
So my account was lost in 2015 and was taken over in 2017 I guess
Find an old address you posted, sign a message proving you still own it, and see if you can convince account recovery team that you weren't the person who got the account banned.

My gut feeling tells me you're the real owner, but my gut feeling isn't enough to get you unbanned.
710  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: (Ordinals) BRC-20 needs to be removed on: April 26, 2024, 06:55:44 AM
Yes, but it is not about the amount, but about the ownership: if you want to have millisatoshis on-chain, then in the current version, you can only have a large multisig, behind a single satoshi, so if you have 500 millisatoshis from Alice, and the same from Bob, then all you can do, is to use 2-of-2 multisig on a single satoshi.
Why do you even care about receiving 0.5 sat from anyone? I don't care about fractions of cents, even though half a cent is worth a lot more than a whole satoshi. The exchanges I use count cents behind the decimal, and if I close my account, I lose them. That's fine.

2. If you have to move a given coin on the mainchain, to bring it back from the sidechain to the mainchain, then it is the same situation as with LN: you can always peg-out, without asking for anyone's permission.
If pegging out costs you $100 in transaction fees, it's only worth it for large amounts. Most people won't want to do it several times per month. That's rent money or food money.
711  Other / Meta / Re: Sig campaign doesn't pay in bitcoin.... on: April 26, 2024, 06:10:28 AM
LoyceV posted something close but not anything saying you cannot post a campaign paying in altcoin.
I'm curious where you read that:
Services provided/demanded on-forum for Bitcoin.
It literally says it's for Bitcoin services, and I've reported many topics over the years saying "Non-Bitcoin service", after which they got moved (or deleted). There's no need to say it's not for altcoins, altcoins are not Bitcoin.

Now, if we are referring to the Stake.com Signature Campaign, ~ it will be paid in USDT.
Great! They've been spamming Bitcointalk for years, time to move them to altcoins where they belong. Reported saying:
Code:
Non-Bitcoin service: "Payments are sent in USDT, every Tuesday, directly to the users Stake account"
Update: it was moved to Bounties (Altcoins).

Typo:
Services (child board of Goods) - Services provided/demanded on-forum for Bitcoin. If you are providing/demanding services on another site (e.g. have a hosting site), it doesn't belong here.
This should be "child board of Marketplace".
713  Other / Meta / Re: Sig campaign doesn't pay in bitcoin.... on: April 25, 2024, 09:40:23 AM
can someone point me to it please?
When in doubt, check Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules:
Services (child board of Goods) - Services provided/demanded on-forum for Bitcoin. If you are providing/demanding services on another site (e.g. have a hosting site), it doesn't belong here.
714  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: (Ordinals) BRC-20 needs to be removed on: April 25, 2024, 08:16:48 AM
By using the same words, you could also say that about Lightning Network: "on-chain Bitcoins are locked" (behind 2-of-2 multisig), and also "then an equivalent amount of tokens are minted" (but here, it may be even worse, because of conversions between satoshis and millisatoshis, so you can "create millisatoshis out of thin air", because you cannot finalize them on-chain in the current version).
I don't care about millisatoshis, and I'm totally find rounding them when settling on-chain. That's franky's thing to bring up, and it's kinda pointless to even discuss if you pay an on-chain transaction fee that's a million times larger. And that's the problem with LN: I know it's locked, but what's the point if you can't afford the fee for on-chain settlement?

Who's up for the challenge?
You know that the network is clogged up when the shipping from Germany to Greece costs less than the Bitcoin median fee.  Tongue
Are you saying you ordered Dropshot? I didn't expect it to be available in Germany, I've never seen it in a shop there. But indeed, I can find it online on German websites.

Comparing Bitcoin fees with shipping costs reminds me of comparing pidgeons with the internet Tongue
716  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Question about Lobstr Wallet on: April 25, 2024, 07:46:39 AM
The bitcoins from lobstr wallet er not real are they ?
I don't know Lobstr wallet, but your screenshot shows Steller Lumens. That's not Bitcoin. Someone may have created a BS token and called it BTC, but that doesn't make it Bitcoin. You can only receive Bitcoin on a Bitcoin address, which you can for instance create in Electrum. What you're doing has nothing to do with Bitcoin, and chances are someone is trying to scam you if they sent you something that isn't Bitcoin.

Thanks again for your flawless timing!

Allow me to share my booze of the evening: Dropshot!
Image loading...
It's liquorice in alcohol, and I've never met any non-Dutch who likes it Tongue Who's up for the challenge?
It turns out I bought the wrong one though: only 14.9%, while there's also a 20% version. I'm not sure if it's shrinkflation on alcohol (that would be terrible!), or they make different versions. It's even the same brand and the bottle looks the same.

Why the alcohol? Well, my wife's gone until tomorrow, and I'm alone with the kids. They're behaving quite well, and in bed already (on schedule). Dropshot time, it's been a while!
718  Other / Meta / Re: TalkImg.com - Image hosting for BitcoinTalk on: April 24, 2024, 09:15:38 AM
Only thing I could think of is adding support for uploading WEBP images.
This should be added to the forum's image proxy (@theymos).

They are getting used more and more and I think they are usually smaller size than JPG and other similar formats.
Even automatic conversion to supported formats would be acceptable solution.
They are indeed smaller, which makes conversion to JPEG a waste of data (and quality).
719  Economy / Reputation / Re: BitcoinGirl.Club: How a condescending attitude equates to trust exclusion on: April 24, 2024, 08:55:48 AM
What really bothers me is how some users thoughtlessly, seemingly without even thinking updated their default trustlist. First openly[1] and then in PM, icopress told everyone [that are in his campaigns, targeting those who are effected by Jambler's ban] to distrust [as dislike/blame] BitcoinGirl.Club and it worked. Why icopress did that? Because he did not like my detailed documentation for his lie on my face and the neutral feedback I left for him & Jambler team
Ignoring the unproven PM statement, I don't see what's wrong with asking users to change their Trust list. I've argued to exclude someone on several occasions, and if the arguments are convincing, that can work. As far as I know, the DefaultTrust system is supposed to work like this:
In borderline cases, it should result in something of a political battle.

That being said, I was surprised by the number of Trust exclusions in a single week. I'm also surprised this caused so much drama: theymos made a decision, if you don't like that decision, blame theymos. But it's not going to change anything. I was also surprised by the neutral tags left by BitcoinGirl.Club, but since it's neutral, it shouldn't be a big deal. The wording is such that I can't take it seriously: "Scamming the idea of".... Wait what?! Followed by: "caused Jambler a reputational damage".... Wait a minute? Which one is it? The first one was scamming an idea, but the "idea scammer" got reputation damage and somehow that's a problem? Which one is it?

So, should icopress be banned for promoting mixers?
Nullum crimen sine lege.

I logged off earlier and have no plan to login again but after seeing the bold fonts from both of you I had to come back
Are you saying you'll leave Bitcointalk because someone was mean to you?
720  Economy / Digital goods / Re: I want to purchase an empty Bitcoin private key after sending the funds on: April 24, 2024, 08:12:17 AM
I need it for other coins that have nothing to do with bitcoin
You need to be more specific. You can't just list a few Bitcoin addresses and hope the owner sees it, there's about a billion used Bitcoin addresses out there.

18xGHNrU26w6HSCEL8DD5o1whfiDaYgp6i $50000
You're going to need to prove you own $50000 in Bitcoin if you want to be taken seriously.
