721  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Did anyone notice this pattern? on: September 22, 2023, 08:38:15 AM
2012 halving - New ATH reached around 1 year after
2016 halving - New ATH reached around 1.5 years after
2020 halving - New ATH reached around 1.5 years after

I know that there are multiple reasons for Bitcoin reaching a new ATH. I do understand that cannot be based on the law of averages. What do you guys think, Is the law of average work here or I am just speculating it?

This pattern cannot be disputed, but what is more interesting here is that, before the halving, you will have the option to purchase bitcoin at a price that is lower.  It is more likely that it will not go beyond the price it was at the time of the halving. It may take a year or more for bitcoin to reach its new all-time high after halving, but if you can acquire it at a cheaper price, bitcoin achieving its new all-time high in one or more years will be in your advantage of a profitable outcome. This should not deter anyone who intends to accumulate bitcoin ahead of the halving and subsequently hitting the new ATH.
My fear is if ATH will actually hold this time around. The hype is accumulating, by the end of this year it will gear up the more and by the first quarter of next year we will be expectant of it. If this season's ATH fails, it will not be fair with the cryptocurrency market.
I have also read somewhere that this will be the highest halving in the recent time, which I consider as purely speculative.
The pattern noted by Op is verifiable and for it to happen in the past 3 halving, there is high tendency it will repeat this time around and that is the optimism of every bitcoiner.
722  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Secure Your Legacy, Educate Your Loved Ones on: September 22, 2023, 08:07:19 AM
In some people's culture, it is not nice to talk about death when you are still alive. And that is why this set of people do not actually prepare for death. Death takes these people unaware and that is why they do not pass inheritance procedure well. Even the will that a common man will write, they do not write any will before they die because they believe they will not die prematurely.

This is a clarion call to every Bitcoiner to ensure that they enjoyed their bitcoin while they are alive or made an adequate procedure so that their bitcoin will be enjoyed by there family and friends whenever they are no more. It is a painful thing to to lose bitcoin even when there is limited bitcoin remaining to be mined.
723  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Paxos recovers its $500,000 'fat finger' Bitcoin transaction fee on: September 22, 2023, 07:46:08 AM
Makes you wonder how a company of such size($2.4 billion as per Forbes) makes such an amateur mistake. Like, probably just having a second person(which I'm pretty sure they can afford) to double check the transaction setups will mitigate such mistakes.
In cryptocurrency, no one is above mistakes. It can happen to anyone and that is why we are advised to be very careful during transactions. I remember not quite long that theymos made a mistake and sent coins upto $1k to a newbie who refunded him.
Although, people has been pointing towards the conspiracy way which is also very much possible. But let us assume the only thing that happened is what we are aware of, and it is fine there is a refund.
724  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Seniors apply patience and kindness to newcomers on: September 21, 2023, 09:46:37 PM
I have concerns about the interactions between experienced members and newcomers in this forum. Occasionally, some experienced members can be quite harsh and may forget that newcomers are here to learn. While constructive corrections are beneficial, it's crucial to avoid using harsh or abusive language.

It's true that some posts from newcomers may be of low quality or show a lack of willingness to learn initially. However, I believe that giving them a chance and treating them with kindness is a reasonable approach.

All you stated is the truth and every reasonable user of this group should understand and agree with you, but I am sorry that things are not so here. No one cautions anyone to treat anyone with leniency, rather they will advice you to grow a think skin.
It is not even experienced members that are the problems. I have noticed some new generation newbies who managed to pack merits easily to rank up, these are the set that are very harsh on newbies. They are barely 1 year in the forum but they attack and abuse newcomers at any slight chance.
I cannot change anything, just follow the system.
725  Economy / Economics / Re: Early Retirement [Pros and Cons] on: September 21, 2023, 08:07:39 PM
Early retirement is probably a good thing if there's an occupation. Otherwise, a person will feel excluded from social life and as if he or she is superfluous. Therefore, everything is strictly individual. Time pressure on a person is the strongest test.
Planning to retire early or late depends on individual differences and purposes in life. It also has something to do with the type of country you are living in and their economic policies. If you are in the country where the government does not have much retirement benefits, it would be so sad to retire early without having enough to cater for yourself.
But if you are living in a country that is flourishing where the government has a very nice retirement plan for her citizens and friendly environment for businesses to strive, retiring early could be a very good plan in order to have a comfortable life without pressure and also, enjoy with family and friends.
726  Economy / Economics / Re: If They Can Pay off their Debts, Why Don't They? on: September 21, 2023, 07:39:15 PM
They can’t actually. There are two ways of paying debts.

1- Produce more, sell (export) more, then pay your debts.
2- Print money, pay

I am not sure about Japan but every other country in your list is printing money instead of producing more. Japan is (or used to be) the only country there which export more than what they import.

The truth is, They are losing their jobs to China. China produces, they print and buy China’s stuff. China is making money, they are making debt.
You are very much correct on this. I have a little knowledge about international debts based on countries, but I do not understand it deeply I was going through all the comments in order to see the one that aligns with what I have learnt already and luckily I have seen this your comment. When you are indepted in the international standard either borrowing from another country or from the IMF. You have to pay back by producing more and exporting or by printing more money from your local currency and printing more money will have to devalue the currency in the international standard, and that is the option many countries are using, including my own country, Nigeria.
727  Other / Off-topic / Re: Is Marriage a contract or a union? on: September 21, 2023, 08:09:34 AM
Marriage is both a union and a contract. It is a union because both agreed and with their parents to married and the scriptures made it to be more the union.

They really need to agree it with parents in your country? The people that I know simply announce it to their families and don't have to ask for permission.

Things differ in the world as there are different cultures, but civilization is also encroaching people's culture. It seems that things happen differently between my country and were you live. In my country, it is the parents (the woman's parents), who recieve and accept bride price and the man's parents pronounce them couple.
Infact, in extreme situations the parent has to reject many spouse for the son or choose by themselves who their son will marry. I know it sounds funny or unreal but it happens in my country.
728  Other / Off-topic / Re: Is Marriage a contract or a union? on: September 20, 2023, 10:34:10 AM
Marriage is both a union and a contract. It is a union because both agreed and with their parents to married and the scriptures made it to be more the union.
It is also an agreement because when there is a disagreement which must have led to an irreparable damage, there is no other option than to end the contract.

It is not nice to call a divorce a menace. If they fall out of love and eventually does not divorce, such a situation may lead to murder. Would you prefer that someone dies or they go their separate ways. If you do not want divorce, simply correct those things that lead to divorce.
729  Other / Meta / Re: Igebotz Nigerian Local Board Merit Source Application on: September 20, 2023, 10:15:23 AM
Out Of sMerit.

Bump. Cool
It's strange for you right. Grin well it's quite normal for other users. I have always had this thought about members who are having about 3k,4k+ merits, I always feel they never run out of smerits not until I started seeing some post of some reputable merit source who also complain of running of merits then I now knew that this particular feeling is almost for everyone though they are some exception for few users like T-man, o_e_l_e_o, and maybe loycev  Grin
There's a difference between an allocation smerits and earned smerits. This has nothing to do with the numberbof merits one has earned. You can see someone with 3k or 4k earned merits but they do not have an smerits simply because they spent it all. But there is an allocation smerits which is given to merit sources by theymos. It is rare to see a merit source complaining of lack of smerits, unless the merit source is a huge merit giver. Most merit sources do not even spend from their earned smerits because the allocated one will always serve them.
730  Other / Meta / Re: Just for curiosity, I wanna know about those things.(Local board>child Board ) on: September 20, 2023, 09:51:04 AM
It is the admin that creates child boards and not the moderators.
Before then someone will need to call the attention of the admin to that effect. I have raised a topic in Nigerian local board proposing that we need child board but some of the old Nigerian users didn't agree to that. They said what we have now is serving us which I also agreed with. If there is need for a child board, a simple pm to theymos can solve this problem.
For sticky post, it is only when there is a worthy post to be pinned that it would be pinned. When such a post is made by any member, there is no doubt that it would be pinned.
731  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: September 20, 2023, 09:06:58 AM

The chance for Cheslea is about 50 percent according to the rates we can see but the chance for Aston Villa is 25 percent and this shows us that even if Cheslea doesn't win this game still Aston Villa can't have too much chance against this team.
Here are the updated rates for this match I think considering the weak performance of Chelsea and the unstable results they got, we can't try betting on a draw.

Not minding the odds that the bookmakers has added to this much. I will say that even if it appears that Chelsea is the favourite in this very match. I do not trust them to win Aston Villa. It would have been fair if Cheslea was able to win Bournemouth last meeting. I do not have a very strong confidence that the present Chelsea team can win any club in English Premier League as it stands now.
Pochettino and his boys should learn to start changing the narratives before it is late. They should stop confusing gamblers. In the other hand, no one should underrate Emry and his boys, I think they lost last time, they may not afford a consecutive lose.
732  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League 2023/24 Season on: September 19, 2023, 05:47:28 PM
Assuming this was last season when Newcastle was in good form, AC would have found this match much difficult. Honestly this match this evening is very interesting. As expected AC Milan has dominated the match from the start and have made so many attempts to score, but Pope the goalkeeper of Newcastle has vowed not to conceive any goal in the first half.
The pressure is much on Newcastle but it's likely Newcastle us going to survive this first half because they are gradually calming the pressure
Newcastle can loss it in just one moment of distraction. AC Milan have a good record in the champions league of winning their first games, so Newcastle have to stay calm because they are in a tough group an need all the advantage that they can get. It is not easy to play in Italy and have a draw against one of the most experienced teams in the competition at their home. Callum Wilson will come in the second half, maybe Almiron and Lewis Hall, they may be the players to help Newcastle win their first game.
Newcastle surely know that they are not the favourites in this match and that is why they have remained calm. The AC Milan team has more quality and experience. But it seems that Newcastle is better in positioning. The presence of Rafa Leo and Chukwueze has made Newcastle to be more calm.
I am also optimistic that Almiron and the likes of Wilson with fresh energy can make the difference for Newcastle. But be it as it may, a draw is a good result for Newcastle in this match tonight.
733  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League 2023/24 Season on: September 19, 2023, 05:25:08 PM
This is Newcastle's first experience after several years of being absent from the Champions League and their opponent is Milan  Cheesy
I can't imagine what Newcastle will do away from home, I'm not sure Newcastle can win but a draw might be a good result
I don't think Newcastle should be underestimated by AC Milan even though Newcastle are newcomers to the Champions League this season, because Newcastle could produce results that surprise everyone here. Even though Newcastle's performance in the EPL has not been good recently, AC Milan itself must remain wary of its opponents even though they are newcomers to the Champions League. So I think their match will be quite exciting to watch today.

736  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What did you do After Reaching your Bitcoin Goal? on: September 17, 2023, 07:17:40 AM
I may reach my Bitcoin goal very soon all thanks to majorly the Dollar Cost Averaging strategy. I have been investing some specific amount into Bitcoin every month since the past couple of years. I have been at least 80% consistent in doing that through the dips and the funds and the bears and the pumps. The question that's been on my heart is what do I do when I finally reach this goal: set a new one and DCA or just keep DCAing without any goal in mind. If you have reached reached your Bitcoin goal what did you do after then?
I am not even sure that I have a bitcoin goal. My own is just be doing DCA until there is a new ATH. I don't know whether to call this a goal. If it is a goal that means I have not achieved my goal.
If my goal is not good enough can I change it? I don't even know what other goal to take  because I feel I am on the right lane till bull run.

Op, if you have met your goal, try and set another, if possible somewhat long term goal now that bitcoin price is still on discount.
737  Other / Meta / Re: Night Mode Needed - People Love Dark Mode - Admin Wake Up on: September 16, 2023, 10:19:57 PM
Dark mode is pretty fuckup if you are colorblind.

I happen to have color blindness and I hate dark mode. Smaller the screen the harder it is to read.

A lot of men have color blindness so if you go to forced dark mode which is easier than lite or dark mode yiu are screwing a lot of people.

I have zero issue if we go to two modes lite or dark as long as we keep the old school method of thread formating.
This is my second time of seeing someone who does not like dark mode. For me, any website I visit what I look out for is the dark mode. Because humans differ that is why we must continue to have options for people to chose.
I am used to this forum format, but if I want to enjoy my dark mode, I do it with my browser. Some browsers have the capacity to switch modes, but browser dark mode on bitcointalk does not give good blend for the sight.
738  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: September 16, 2023, 07:51:05 PM
Manchester city sitting first on the league table after defeating the hammers today at London stadium. Westham 1 and City 3. Spectacular performance from the citizens, they're not holding back, always keeping full pressure in league games. David Moyes dissapointed with the results he got against Manchester City.  Pep Guardiola is yet to fully recover, he was present for the game, encouraging his players to make outstanding performance. Westham united giving manchestet city difficult time before losing. The citizens have good chances of winning, especially Erling Haaland who missed golden goal scoring chances, perhaps he nets just a goal.
About the club that will win the English Premier League title of this year. People were making suggestions of other clubs apart from Manchester City. I told them that the only way for Manchester City not to be the champions of the English Premier League this season is for them not to climb the top of the table. Now that Manchester City is sitting at the top of the English Premier League table. We should expect that they will likely be there till the end of the season. This is because I have not seen an outstanding club in England that will give Manchester City a very tough fight. Liverpool used to do it when they did not drop form, but they cannot do it now.
739  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: September 16, 2023, 06:07:48 PM
The coach needs to be questioned, the performance was terrible and it’s down to the coach who was appointed to manage the players.

Couch is not the one playing and should not be blamed for players poor performance. It was actually a shocking performance from red devils this afternoon. No work rate, no pressure on the opponent, simply a shambolic display at the old Trafford. The couch formation was also not favorable even before the commencement of the game but players can change the whole system in pitch which they didn't it. Rashford is the most contributor that made united to lost the game with his selfish style of play. If you can not shoot to score, at least you have teammates who can do that for you but he rather let it go to opponent than giving pass.
I wonder people who were expecting a different result or a result that would favour Manchester United. I expected that Manchester United will lose and the best result of Manchester United would have been a draw. Technically looking at the two teams, Brighton is more stable than Manchester United. Brighton team is bonded unlike that of Manchester United. If you also look at the administrative aspect of the two clubs, you will know that Brighton management is firm and focused unlike the Glazer's who are rather beings selfish and greedy with the club. All these factors contribute to the succes of any club. Of Manchester United refuse to do something about their club, we shouldn't expect any different result going forward.
740  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Remitano exchange allegedly hacked on: September 16, 2023, 05:45:06 PM
remitano exchange abi na Tether as a whole?
I neva read di news to get detailed information but e be like one of di asset wey di hacker steal na USDT, maybe Remitano report am on time and di hacker never convert to oda asset, so Tether quickly step in and freeze di stolen USDT.
Yea, I later read read the news. The OP no report the matter in full. So the thing come confuse me but as I read online I now get the whole information. But still still remitano never release official information on this mata.

The frozen $1.4M na for the remitano exchange abi na Tether as a whole?
The USDT that was stolen was freezed. USDT can be frozen by Tether even on noncustodial wallets. Most stable coins are like that, they are centralized, with the exception of DAI.
Na so e happen. Once make we see the advantage of centralization.
