I've only seen Green Book, Black Panther, BlacKkKlansman and Bohemian Rhapsody.I think the first one is Oscar material, not the other three.
If I had to bet, I'd go with Roma, Rami Malek, Glenn Close and Spike Lee.

Watch Roma! It is on Netflix now if you have it. If not, there is always torrents hehehe. There is no excuse not to be able to watch the latest movies anymore.

I have not finished my thorough study of these movies but I might have a similar prediction except for best director. Alfonso Cuaron would be my prediction. I would not bet on it however.

Am I correct in stating that there will be approximately 315 million GRIN after 10 years?

1 per second x 10 years?

If so the supply doesn't seem that high to me considering what the potential is for this coin to develop in the next ten years.

You're right. I also think the same - many people misunderstand. They think that Grin's monetary policy is stupid and irrational. Well, it is not. It has been designed this way on purpose. I personally think it's a good model and will play out nicely. Here's a nice chart that shows the Grin supply

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1RO3zc5AvfN9rcVnrYnLjqCikFLHmD39_7MCV18lDrvc/edit#gid=0

Agreed. I always was a believer of the tail emmission that some cryptonote coins implemented. However, the implementation was more for the adapative block size than the distribution, but it still gives continuous incentives for miners.

In anycase, a hard cap on the supply in some coins are not practical unless the developers were planning something else for the coin other than make it a daily currency. The hard cap encourages hoarding, which might be a limitation for mass adoption.
7223  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can bitcoin sustain itself on fees alone? on: January 25, 2019, 02:48:02 AM
Was that something that we should celebrate about, however? I reckon people who might potentially want to use bitcoin regularly might instead choose to use an altcoin because they get the same results without paying for the high fees.

Also, escaping by saying that we are dead before it becomes a major problem is like already accepting that there is no fix to the problem.

That's the luxury of being dead. All of one's problems are solved instantly and eternally.

All of this experimentation in recent years is heading towards what the core developers have been mumbling about all along - all necessary scaling is looking increasingly like an impossibility on chain.

There are two likely outcomes. Either something comes along that isn't BTC that does scale on chain which is more than possible though whether BTC is too entrenched by then is another matter, or it does the layer two thing.

If it is to be layer two then on chain transactions will be large and carefully planned which'll provide a much steadier fee situation than the current ad hoc spikes.

A layer 2 does not solve the miners' problem to be incentivized, I reckon. It competes with it in fee collection. How is that advantageous for the miners who already have their incentives halved every 4 years?

How big is the chance that Cryptopia founders were exit scamming? Exit scams appear to occur again periodically among ICOs and some exchanges during a bear market.

Should we expect more of it hehehe?

@Kemarit. I reckon Binance is only one of the very few exchanges left that accepts new accounts without enforcing KYC/AML for small withdrawals.

The hackers might have made many accounts there and planned to withdraw the coins for 2 bitcoins at a time, every 24 hours from many accounts hehehe. An easy catch for Binance.
7227  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can bitcoin sustain itself on fees alone? on: January 24, 2019, 02:46:27 AM
A BIS source is going to be as hopelessly fudtastic as Nouriel Roubini after his Yobit account's been hacked.

I remember Greg Maxwell celebrating the fact that a block's fees outweighed the block reward for the first time during the height of Bitmain's probable spamming. It certainly sucked for us but it did prove it was possible.

Luckily we'll be dead or in nappies before this becomes a major problem. I am curious to see how it's going to pan out. If I'd been designing BTC I would've kept an eternal tail emission but you're not allowed to say such things.

This would be amazing if not for the infinite supply and stupid emissions policy.

Doesn't ETH also have infinite supply though? Roll Eyes
And the emission might be considered low... well... I can't judge it yet since the price and the interest on the project fluctuates wildly.

I'm not saying I disagree with your points, I'm only saying that we can't draw any conclusions yet... whether the supply and emission policies are correct or wrong.

Agreed. Sometimes it appears to me that bitcoin's capped supply might be a mistake. Can the miners really be incentivized to secure the ledger forever from the fees alone?

Yes but with high fees. However, does it have to be that way?
7229  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [AEON] Aeon Speculation on: January 23, 2019, 04:10:21 AM
@boomboombazooka. Why do you want to do it on Bisq? Do it over the counter with a person you trust if you do not want to use Bittrex. You might get a better price for it.

I reckon Bisq's listing does not help put liquidity on the exchange or Aeon.
7230  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Grin or Beam? What is the good entry price? on: January 23, 2019, 03:56:20 AM
Although I have not read much about both, it seems to me that both are just hyper. We know that anyone with good money can pay for marketing. So I'd rather wait and see what happens

Grin is a legitimate experiment by a long time Bitcoin developer and the theory behind it has been discussed for quite some time in the developer community, so I wouldn't just throw it in the hype bucket and call it a day. That being said, it's distribution is 1 grin per second for eternity, which means it will be 3 years before it drops below 50% inflation--you couldn't spend your money fast enough if that was country's currency, so anyone buying now is probably fighting a losing battle if they expect to cash out on a price increase. I'd wait four or five years before even bothering hodling it. But as far as being useful, it is if you just buy it to spend it for privacy--but of course that adds the cost of volatility, conversion fees, etc, so it's like a really bad implementation of Monero.
But why 3 years? I thought that number of mined Grins is constant, no halving and so on. So what will happen after 3 years?

% of total supply

Let's say you mine 1 coin per day:

Year 1: 1 coin to start and ends year at  365, so 365x increase

Year 2: 365 coins to start and ends year at 730, so 1x increase

Year 3: 730 coins to start and ends year at 1095, so 0.50x increase

As you can see the % mined is less and less of the total supply, so after 10 years it's a drop in the bucket. Also, I didn't say consider in 3 years, but 4-5 because it drops to ~10% and below of total supply, which is when things get interesting.

We also do have to speculate on the demand side however, not only the supply side. Ethereum has an infinite supply and a premine. That did not stop it from becoming on top 2 in market capitalization.

Also, those crazy pumpers, those greedy holders hehehe.
7231  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pacquiao Vs Mayweather 2 on: January 23, 2019, 02:49:57 AM
They will fight. The promoters also did the same chance encounter in an NBA game marketing strategy when they were beginning to hype Floyd versus Manny 1.

I predict that the fight will be on christmas. The perfect time to scam everyone hehehe.
7232  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Can bitcoin sustain itself on fees alone? on: January 23, 2019, 02:21:05 AM
First read the paper linked at the bottom.

Is Raphael Auer's paper fact or fud?

However, will the fees continue to sustain bitcoin's security forever, after all the coins are mined?

Also, we are in the early days of cryptoecnomics. There are developers that are experimenting to create a fix for the possible lack of mining incentives when all coins are mined by implementing a tail emission. There are other altcoins taking an inflationary approach with a transparent emission.

Raphael Auer, Principal Economist of Monetary and Economic Department at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), wrote a paper titled “Beyond the doomsday economics of “proof-of-work” in cryptocurrencies.”

The paper starts with showing how the popularity of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies soared in late 2017, outstripping interest in sovereign currencies, or even gold. But yet Auer points out that according to research by Chainalysis, few people were actually using Bitcoin to buy things.

The paper defines ‘economic payment finality’ when it is unprofitable for any potential adversary to undo it with a double-spend attack. Auer argues that double-spending is very profitable and that attackers stand to gain a much higher bitcoin income than an honest miner because they collect the double-spent amount on top of transaction fees and block rewards. The paper states that “proof-of-work can only achieve payment security if mining income is high, but the transaction market cannot generate an adequate level of income.”

Auer argues that because the block rewards are decreasing with time, the security of payments decreases and transaction fees become more important to guarantee finality. He says that “the economic design of the transaction market fails to generate high enough fees.” Auer continues with saying that users are free-riding on the security provided by the transaction fees of other transactions in the chain, which causes the transaction market to be unable to generate an adequate level of mining income.

The proof-of-work and hence the level of security is determined at the level of the block in which a transaction is included, whereas the transaction fee is set by each user privately. Auer says that the key result is that the fee set on a decentralized basis is much lower than the optimal fee, which results in long times before finality is reached.

Auer concludes that Bitcoin’s liquidity will fall substantially in the long run in the absence of relevant technological advances. The block rewards represent the vast majority of miners’ income and thus underpin the security of payments. But since the block rewards are being gradually phased out, the paper argues that the security of payments is also set to deteriorate.

How can I deposit my Grin coins to Hotbit? All I see is some HTTPS link as a GRIN Deposit Address. How to use it?

The command would be grin wallet send -d (https link) (amount), without the parenthesis.

Can anyone make a trade with me? I want 3 grins for bitcoin, I will send first. I will not trade with random accounts, only the trusted people with or without a positive rating.

@Last of the V8s. An infinite supply should appeal to the miners most, after 10+ years. Bitcoin's capped supply might become an issue after a few more halvings.

I have some coins on a pool but I'm still not certain if I know the process well enough to make sure I don't get scammed or get accused of scamming. I'm not saying you would, it's just a general lack of understanding on my part with the 3-way process. With Bitcoin it's quite simple - I send coins to a given address, it shows up in a block, confirmed, visible on a block explorer, no doubts about it. With grin though... let's say I create a TX file to send to you. Then for whatever reason you fail to create a response file for me to finalize for me and you accuse me that my TX file was bad. Is there a way for a third party to verify that?

I trust you. I would be willing to send first.

Also, have you tried sending your coins in your grin wallet? I would be willing to take the risk of having some issues with the transaction as long as the coins are directly from your wallet, not from a pool. It would be part of the learning process hehehe.

I have moved some coins to my wallet and between two of my wallets, been experimenting for a bit. It's offline now though. I'm gonna rebuild my node later today and once I restore the wallet backup we can try this if you're still interested.

Yes I still am! Post or send me your bitcoin wallet and I will pay you as soon as possible for the spot price in Hotbit. I want 3 grins. Can you do the transaction file way of sending and email it to me? I do not trust receiving via listener.
7234  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Manny Pacquaio vs. Adrien Broner on: January 22, 2019, 03:03:37 AM
@mirakal. Similar to the moneygrabbing ICOs in the cryptospace, the promoters will certainly make Floyd versus Pacman 2 happen.

Boxing is business before sport these days. What we can only hope for is a good fight which Floyd versus Pacman 1 was not. I reckon Conor showed more excitement versus Floyd than Manny.

Sorry Manny fans but it is the truth.

Yeah, I agree that if Mayweather and Manny would fight it would be a boring one but like always, money's is all about why the fight would happen. That is if mayweather will decide to fight back on the ring with a Manny Pacquiao showdown.
I disagree that Money vs Manny 2 would be a boring fight. If Manny is there in a fight, it is exciting just like the Pacman vs Broner fight. IMO this rematch would happen and the only question here is the timing and for sure that money is always a factor to make this fight happen.

They did already fight however. It was very boring and it was embarassing for the promoters, especially after the megahype done to promote it. I reckon it might have made the fans, real and casuals, feel scammed similar to how the Bitconnect bagholders were scammed hehehehehe.

Pah. They'll be fine. It's just a bit of speed or MDMA or whatever.

If junior is shifting industrial quantities of heroin to his customers without applying diligence that's a different matter

They might be fine. However, the American government has privatized their prison system and it has become a big business. The American government has also been imprisoning a growing amount of people for the lightest offenses. They want those prisons filled to keep the business going.

They might be safe for now. But you should not want Uncle Sam holding something that could be used against you.

7240  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Grin Speculation on: January 21, 2019, 02:05:53 AM
I do not own Grin at present, however the support from hardware manufacturers, investors and from some of the influential people in the cryptospace might give it short term hype before giving investors a good occassion to buy.

Also, Grin's monetary supply is inflationary similar to Dogecoin. 60 Grin per block, 60 seconds per block forever. I speculate that should push the price down below $1.00 in its first 2 to 3 years of circulation.
