6381  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / How can this be good for the cryptospace environment in the state of New York? on: July 25, 2019, 03:42:35 AM
The influence of Joseph Lubin of Ethereum and Ryan Zagone of Ripple will certainly corrupt the task force and make it move according to the advantage of their own platforms.

The New York state government have certainly made an improper start by including those 2.

Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin and Ripple director of regulatory relations Ryan Zagone have been appointed to New York’s new Digital Currency Taskforce.

The group will help New York lawmakers shape the regulatory environment for blockchain and cryptocurrency in the Big Apple.

Assemblymember Clyde Vanel announced the six legislative selections for the task force, which was created back in January.

“New York was the first state in the nation to create a cryptocurrency task force to help the states and the country figure out how to properly regulate digital currency and blockchain technology...

We are excited that we’re going to have some of the premier people in blockchain technology and in cryptocurrency help guide New York state and the country, and maybe the world, on finding the right level of regulations in this space.”

6382  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-07-19] U.S. Regulator Probing Crypto Exchange BitMEX Over Client Trades on: July 25, 2019, 03:25:11 AM
@figmentofmyass. You do not think this is something more concerning this time, with office of the attorney general, the hearings and this probe?

I am confident that the cryptospace will give them some problems, however we should not underestimate the power of the American government. They mit be very angry this time hehehe.

Crypto derivatives platform BitMEX is bleeding funds, amid worries that a CFTC probe could lead to a full-blown investigation.

Data collected by TokenAnalyst show that BitMEX’s wallet balances have declined substantially since Friday. As can be seen on the graph below, there was a sharp surge in withdrawals on June 19th, the day the Commodity Futures Trading Commission announced its probe into the exchange.

Traders withdrew more than $175.5M worth of Bitcoin (BTC) between Friday and Tuesday. With only $49.6M coming in during the same time period, the leveraged trading platform saw a net outflow of approximately $125M over the past five days.

6383  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-07-24] Circle and Poloniex moving from the US, regulatory uncertainty on: July 25, 2019, 02:53:12 AM
I reckon that there might be another round of regulatory pressure on exchanges that are operating in America. Bitfinex and Bitmex have felt the American government's displeasure of their presence.

I predict that Coinbase is next.

Of any exchange, why Coinbase? They've always played by the book -- licenses, mandatory KYC. They even terminate accounts over gambling activity per federal law.

They seem much more interested in offshore entities that don't play by the book. I think Bitfinex and BitMEX are still the biggest targets.

It is only from my own speculation and opinion. If Goldman Sach's Circle is leaving American soil, I reckon there might be a big cryptospace persecution approaching.

The politicians might not stop until they have all of it under their control. Coinbase was allegedly participating in insider trading, did it not? True or not, anything will get their attention.

US Senate Plans Hearing to Scrutinize Future of Bitcoin and Crypto

United States senators plan to dive into crypto during a committee hearing on digital currencies and blockchain next week.

The Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs has scheduled an open session hearing titled  “Examining Regulatory Frameworks for Digital Currencies and Blockchain” for Tuesday, July 30, according to a Senate press release.

Jeremy Allaire, the co-founder, chairman and CEO of peer-to-peer payments fintech company Circle, plans to testify on behalf of the Blockchain Association.

Rebecca M. Nelson, a specialist in international trade and finance for the Congressional Research Service, and Mehrsa Baradaran, a professor of law at the University of California Irvine School of Law, are also scheduled to testify. Baradaran has extensive expertise in banking law.

It follows two congressional hearings on Facebook’s controversial Libra project held earlier this month, which also featured discussions on crypto.

The hearing will be webcast live and is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. EST.

6384  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] AEON [2019-03-20: current version is 0.12.9.0] on: July 24, 2019, 03:09:33 AM
beautiful marketing document, to comment before diffusion:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Aeon/comments/c9bk1b/aeon_marketing_initial_document/

I like it, however, the information is not that different from other cryptocoins. We have already seen this before repeatedly. It is not interesting anymore.

I reckon Aeon should go back to its original vision. A lightweight cryptonote coin that can run on your smart phone.

Those documents were more of a “welcome to Aeon” sort of document. They were not really intended to be some large informational source about what Aeon is. It’s a marketing document with more in depth to come.

Aside from that we are inching closer to k12.

How are the present GPU miners weighing in on the change? I reckon they should have no vote because they can always leave and transfer mining on another coin or continue mining the old chain.

However, who is making the Asics for k12 and are they accessible for anyone? I reckon this would be the next problem in this challenge hehe.
6385  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [AEON] Aeon Speculation on: July 24, 2019, 02:52:38 AM
We should learn something from Grin's transition.

Yup the transition will happen in 28 days when there will be more GRIN in existence then AEON. And it will never reverse again. A solid permanent transition.

One week to go.
Then will be:
15854612 Aeon in existence and 15912540 Grin.
3559 Aeon mined a day worth $2619 and 86400 Grin mined a day worth $334368.
Aeon mining inflation will be 8.19% and Grin's 198% or as its today more modern to say Aeon Stock to Flow will be 12.1 compared to Grin 0.5.

Transition is real!

What transition are you implying? I said we should learn from Grin's transition plan on slowly changing to 100% Asic mining that would occur in a 2 year period.

The number of coins. It is most related with price speculation.  Two more days and there will be less AEON in circulation.

Name for new release is being picked: https://github.com/aeonix/aeon/issues/124

Yes, agreed. The total supply will matter for price, infinite supply will be more stable, however, also problematic if its demand does not match it. Someone already discouraged me from mentioning Grin's monetary policy in Grin's thread hehe. Maybe he does not want to stop denying the truth.

@bigslimvdub. Thank you.
6386  Bitcoin / Press / [2019-07-24] Circle and Poloniex moving from the US, regulatory uncertainty on: July 24, 2019, 02:12:51 AM
I reckon that there might be another round of regulatory pressure on exchanges that are operating in America. Bitfinex and Bitmex have felt the American government's displeasure of their presence.

I predict that Coinbase is next.

Crypto conglomerate Circle announced that it will be moving the majority of its operations offshore, as regulatory uncertainty has made servicing U.S. customers increasingly difficult. The company received a full Digital Assets Business Act license in Bermuda for Poloniex, a cryptocurrency exchange it runs.

The increased regulatory uncertainty about the future of the crypto industry in the U.S. has forced many companies to move their operations to more crypto-friendly markets. Bermuda, which recently imposed a comprehensive regulatory framework regarding digital assets, has been a favorite destination for up and coming crypto companies looking for a stable environment.

6387  Economy / Speculation / Re: Speculating with Tom Lee on: July 24, 2019, 01:21:50 AM
I just think we've finally reached a point in the market where his predictions actually make sense now. If there was ever a time to stop making fun of Tom Lee (especially if it reinforces bias against his opinions), it's now.

I've never doubted the prices he espoused were going to happen at some point. It's the timing that's been wrong most of the time.

I hope he doesn't have a legion of fans who go full leverage every time he makes a prediction. If they did then they'll all be in cardboard boxes by now.

Agreed! Timing is everything. Similar to what Dana White would say hehehe. However, is Tom Lee timing bitcoin's movements or is he really a blind permabull?
6388  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-05-21] Bitfinex Argues Why Judge Should Dismiss NYAG Case in Latest Case on: July 23, 2019, 04:21:51 AM
News update.

I am shaking my head in confusion. Who is lying? Who is telling the truth? I reckon they might be both lying. Bitfinex is looking for ambiguity to evade the law, the New York attorney general's office is looking for minor details to charge Bitfinex.

The latest filings in the New York Attorney General’s suit against iFinex see the exchange fighting against the OAG’s claims of New York jurisdiction. The filings uploaded today claim the OAG misled the court in its July 7 filings, making New York connections seem stronger than they are.

In the filings, the OAG claims Bitfinex had operations in New York when it loaned Tethers to a New York based trading firm and opened up an account with another to facilitate the transaction. Bitfinex said this is misleading, and the borrower is in fact a foreign entity, and the New York trading firm was only utilized to complete the transaction.

In addition to this, Bitfinex claims the OAG made similar misleading claims in the so-called Whitehurst Affirmation, which contains a list of Eligible Contract Participants (ECP) showing New York logins from a professional trading firm using Bitfinex. The exchange claims each login is linked to a foreign ECP rather than New York-based companies.

Where are you viewing this? Could you provide a link?

It doesn't seem too serious yet. As was pointed out in the article, often times nothing materializes from such CFTC probes. Either way, I wouldn't worry too much yet since the DOJ doesn't appear to be involved in the case. For now, it's just a civil matter.
Here is the link: https://www.tokenanalyst.io/exchange/btc/bitmex

The outflow a day ago peaked at $73 million, which is indicating that people are worried. This for me as non US user is reason enough to at least for now not trade on BitMEX. Deribit (for now) seems to be a decent alternative.

The thing that makes me a bit uncomfortable is that the CFTC might use BitMEX as some sort of a signal that you shouldn't even think about following the same path, and this by punishing them in the most severe way.

Some cryptocoin news websites say it peaked up to $85 million. I do not know what is true anymore. Maybe the higher the amount announced the higher the incoming clickrate hehe.

6391  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pacquiao Vs Mayweather 2 on: July 23, 2019, 02:47:16 AM
I reckon that the negotiations for the rematch might begin before the end of this year and they organize the fight to be on 2020 hehehe. It might also be a faster negotiation because Manny is now also managed by Al Haymon.

"I don’t have an idea. My plan this time is one fight at a time,” Pacquiao said to SI. “He’s in retirement and he’s enjoying his retirement. He’s inactive. If he’s willing to come back and willing to fight me, then at the time he will announce it, we can say yes.”

6392  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Manny Pacquiao vs Keith Thurman on July 20 on: July 22, 2019, 02:43:26 AM
He's not just a good fighter but also a salesman.  Tongue

LOL, this is true, Thurman is such a good guy and I can sense with his trash talk, he just want to sell the fight and that was a success since it was a sold out crowd with over 14K in the venue.

Thurman should also be proud that his first loss is from a legend, and he is not afraid to fight any fighter, he gain respect from the boxing community now.

Also adding the influence of Manny Pacquiao, there's a lot of crowds because they wanted to watch the fight of Manny, the people's choice. Thanks also to Thurman for his TT, well, it's very common for a fighter to trash talk his opponent to hype the fight. Even he trash talk Manny Pacquiao, he gives all of his best to win the game and fight a legend.

Agreed. The fans should know this part of any combat sport. It has a mix of entertainment to market and promote the fights. Conor became the most successful MMA fighter because of his big mouth hehehe.

@Schirer. Is Etherdelta also decentralized? Why would they pay fines? Who paid the fines?

These centralized DEXs only market themselves as decentralized. They can be fined, shutdown and banned. They are not decentralized.

Also, was Etherdelta an ICO? You do not have to answer that hehehe. We already know what Etherdelta is.

All of your questions can be answered here in official SEc release :
https://www.sec.gov/news/press-release/2018-258

The short answer is that the owner of ether-delta paid the fines because in the eyes of Sec, he was operating a illegal security exchange.

I did not need an answer because we already know what Etherdelta is. It is a centralized exchange marketed to be a DEX. They do not care about decentralization and what it represents. I reckon they only used the word decentralized for marketing.
6395  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Manny Pacquiao vs Keith Thurman on July 20 on: July 20, 2019, 04:50:03 AM
@Questat. Pacman fans are of course mostly Filipinos, who might be sensitive to the trashtalk and insults. Maybe they feel everyone is always bullying them and Pacman is their deliverance from this bullying however short.

I reckon a fight versus Conor would make them crazy from the level he has in trashtalking. Insulting nation, religion and family.
6396  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Grin Observer - GRN/BTC - Price Movement and Discussion on: July 20, 2019, 04:13:35 AM
@RivAnge. Why? What is special about this hardfork? I reckon this is only a regular upgrade with some bug fixes.

Monero has a hardfork on regular intervals every 6 months similar to Grin. It is only part of its development.

6399  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2019 NBA Season on: July 19, 2019, 02:12:16 AM
How the hell these projections show denver at the second seed? I mean Denver was alright last season but they literally barely beat an injury ridden spurs in 7 games (even though they were playing as second seed vs seven seed) and then lost to Portland.

I mean I get it they are good and they finished second seed last year but last year teams were not really caring about that much because they knew for a fact that warriors (with addition of boogie as well) would just sprint to championship easily, nobody really assumed warriors would get so many injuries. This season with that many teams contenting for title, its impossible for such a young team to get to second seed. Mine would be ;

 1- Clippers
 2- Lakers
 3- Rockets
 4- Warriors
 5- Denver
 6- Blazers
 7- Spurs
 8- Jazz

LOL.

They play different when it comes to the playoffs. That is why even just for the 8th seed it will be worth the shot.
Season is about the attendance of the roster, they dont play that hard anymore in season to protect themselves.
Denver have young players in their roster and that is why they made it as the 2nd seed in the West.

Don't get me wrong but look at the Roster of other teams in the West. Yes, they are all powerhouse teams but.... they are not getting any younger. They cannot complete 82 games anymore and that means something if you want to be number 1 seed. Every game will count.

I reckon that might be the western conference seeding for the end of the regular season. How can you seed them after the playoffs?

The sportsbooks also have similar projections on the top 3 based on the odds. However, if it is for the whole league, put the Bucks on no.3.
6400  Economy / Speculation / Speculating with Tom Lee on: July 19, 2019, 01:53:09 AM
Instead of creating a new thread everytime, all news about Tom Lee's bitcoin speculations and other things on his life will be in this thread hehehe.

In any case, the first article. Will he predict it right for the 4th quarter this time or will this be a funny one again?

Lee was of the view that with the added focus on Facebook’s cryptocurrency Libra, the momentum gained by cryptocurrencies could carry Bitcoin to an all-time high as investors panic of missing out on the opportunity.

“Bitcoin is now trading at a level that it’s only seen 3% of its historical days. If you go back to every milestone that that was achieved, bitcoin subsequently rallied somewhere between 200% to 400% within the next four months, so I think if that’s playing out this time that means bitcoin could be $20,000 to $40,000 sometime in the fourth quarter.”

Lee also talked about the impact that Facebook’s Libra could or could not have on the overall crypto community. He insisted that Libra would have no impact on the long term success and adoption of cryptocurrencies. “In a world without Libra, is crypto going to be successful? Absolutely. So, I don’t think it changes the long-term outlook for bitcoin,” Lee said.
