i'd really like to help zyk with his apparent problem, however i have no idea what he's actually asking.

i've already stated how the accounts would be split up, but as rolotonybrowntown says, it's pointless spending day after day discussing it when we don't even know if we'll see any coins anyway.

let's discuss it more *after* pirate pays (if ever).

Can you let us know by end of today payb.tc if you can't or won't send pirate details, so I can email them directly to pirate instead?

first, please tell me when the end of today is.
743  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: [BitcoinMax.com] Closing down on: August 30, 2012, 06:34:37 AM
it is very unlikely that i will be sending pirate the details of bitcoinmax accounts.

Do you mean that in the general sense of the complete account list, or even in the individual cases where you've been specifically asked to?  Disclaimer: I'd like my BTCMax info passed to pirate ASAP, by the Fri deadline at the very latest.

i think this information is totally irrelevant to *my* account at BST.

Do you mean your personal account or the totality of the BTCMax PPT?

Either way, pirate's announcement of default and statement of terms for the ensuing wind-down make that information *very* relevant.

I hope you choose to accept the terms of the wind-down, so we (your customers) don't get left out of whatever settlement may be forthcoming.

One more thing, and this is a biggie.  The reason pirate wants to pay us PPT customers directly is to ensure that there is no funny business with the settlements.

Lawyered up or not, at this point it makes sense for him to remove as much counterparty risk as possible, to best minimize chances of further uncertainty/rancor/dissatisfaction/unpaid accounts and ensuing litigation or other negative consequences.

i only have one account at BST. it contains everything.

whether there is any 'funny business' within bitcoinmax is also irrelevant to pirate and my BST account being paid out. if he can prove he sent ~168300 to me (and everyone by now knows my bst withdrawal address - 19kEo3qmuUdAQb1Q7VZhRwahw5v3NSZCeW), then that's as far as his responsibility goes.

Pirate's debt is denominated in BTC and his interest obligations are denominated in BTC.  I don't see how an "unstable currency" is a problem, as long as you make certain assumptions.
Say the price of BTC doubles. Now, Pirate's customers need half as much BTC as they did before.

why?
Because half as many coins do whatever it is they need to do. Whether they're buying drugs or laundering money, they now need half as much BTC to do it.

Quote
that assumes their investment was denominated in USD.
No, it doesn't. It's independent of what denomination is used to measure the value of investments.

Quote
as with my 1800 BTC shakaru debt, the value of the coins in USD was irrelevant. To me the debt was always 1800 BTC.

whether USD/BTC triples or halves... i just want the coins.
You may think it doesn't affect you because you loan to someone a number of bitcoins and just expect a number of bitcoins back. And they may think it doesn't affect them because they deal with others in bitcoin amounts. But somewhere at the bottom there will be someone who cares what bitcoins are worth. There just isn't any enterprise that can operate in terms not connected to an amount of value either directly or indirectly other than by pure hoarding. And there's nothing you can hoard that will give you a significant net positive return over bitcoins. Value fluctuations ripple through the chain with bitcoins just as they do with dollars. And right now, bitcoin is much more volatile.

bitcoins are worth 1 BTC each.

While I agree, unfortunately there are also 370 odd people involved so it might not be that clear cut.

If people want you to pass on their info, you probably should.   Imagine if you don't pass it on and then pirate pays out all accounts that he has info for.  People will be.... displeased with you (and the amount of keyboard warriors on this cesspool of a forum is seemingly unlimited).

if he pays out all the accounts he has info for, then he'll be paying payb.tc 168300+ btc.

he has info for me, and my account.
747  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: [BitcoinMax.com] Closing down on: August 30, 2012, 02:20:09 AM
payb.tc you know pirateat40 and any other players in this fiasco much better than I

unfortunately this is largely a misconception. i don't have any extra 'insider' information that isn't all over the forum.

by the way, it is very unlikely that i will be sending pirate the details of bitcoinmax accounts. i think this information is totally irrelevant to *my* account at BST.

also, there's a limit to how much more time i can spend on this without getting paid... i also have to focus on where my next paycheque is going to come from.
748  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: [BitcoinMax.com] Closing down on: August 29, 2012, 11:33:45 PM
just by the way, i have 28 new PMs to get through, so don't be surprised if that takes a while.
749  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: [BitcoinMax.com] Closing down on: August 29, 2012, 11:18:26 PM
In truth, Payb.tc is the only "account" of BCS&T, and therefore is owed the entire amount. I'm not sure how I feel about pirate getting your entire customer list, with bitcoin addresses and email addresses.

+1

i don't see how bitcoinmax account details have anything to do with pirate or BS&T.

it's pretty simple... he needs to pay out my BS&T account to my BS&T withdrawal address.

if only a smaller proportion of that can be paid out, then i'll pass that smaller % on to bitcoinmax account holders.

the "FIFO" thing was only a side-effect of ordering by USER ID (a number), but it doesn't mean if only only get 50% back later accounts will miss out... if i only get 50% back, then all accounts will get 50% back.
750  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: [BitcoinMax.com] Closing down on: August 29, 2012, 11:00:45 PM
It is highly unethical bordering on illegal to hand over users data to a third party without their express permission.

agreed, and following that, it's questionable whether handing over *some* would be useful, if i can't hand over *all*.
751  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: [BitcoinMax.com] Closing down on: August 29, 2012, 10:58:51 PM
i've been offline for well over 24 hours.

my main pc with my wallet is still offline and i only have a public computer to use the net at the moment.

haven't been in touch with pirate yet.

will post again soon.

If you are a victim of the fraud and did not know it was a fraud, then you are without guilt.

thanks hg, that's very kind of you to say.

i agree completely.
753  Other / Off-topic / Re: I only barely found out about Bitcoin- What else do I not know about? on: August 28, 2012, 06:05:32 AM
I discovered Bitcoin in May 2011 by seeing a post on Reddit with only 88 upvotes. I only barely came across it and if I hadn't, in all likelihood, I still wouldn't have heard about Bitcoin. Bitcoin caused me to learn about and use TrueCrypt, Tor, and PGP(GPG). But it almost never happened! So that has me worried: What other technologies should I really be aware of and using that I am not using (or that most people are not using)?

Here are the big ones I know about so far:

Bittorrent - Fast peer to peer file distribution
Bitcoin
IRC - Old chat protocol still used
GPG - Message encryption, doesn't rely on any third parties
SSH - Encrypted TCP connections & tunnels between you and a server
TrueCrypt - Easy full-disk encryption and file-container encryption for Windows
Tor - Anonymous TCP connections and connections to hidden-services

I suppose that TrueCrypt is not a protocol but rather a tool, and if we are including tools on this list, then it gets much bigger. But that's Okay! What are your invaluable protocols and tools and what do they do?

EDIT: added links and descriptions per request

good list.

is there anything as simple and easy to use as "Teamviewer" but which doesn't rely on a centralized company (that can possibly snoop)?

something 2 individuals can more easily verify as being private communication.

crossloop, google it.

i've only taken a brief look so far but my first thought is "how is that any different to teamviewer?" seems you're just asking for crossloop to spy on you instead of teamviewer... both are closed source, flashy website companies.

anyway thanks, will take a closer look and compare.

perhaps people reading this thread might be interested to know about howtovanish.com if they have never heard of it.

it's worth a brief look over anyway.

756  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: uppercase private key? on: August 28, 2012, 03:29:50 AM
private keys are simply random numbers encoded in various formats (there are more than one).  Understand you are significantly reducing the entropy of your private key by eliminating all the incompatible digits.

One method would be to randomly generate each digit (A-Z) and concatenate the values.

*very* rough code with lots of bugs:

Code:
function upper_key($num) {
  $key = '';

   while ($num > 26) {
       $char_num = $num % 26;
       $num = ($num - $char_num) / 26;

      $key = chr($char_num+65) . $key;
    }

   $key = chr($num+65) . $key;

   return $key;
}
757  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: centralized post of pirate payouts or other related news to the closing. on: August 28, 2012, 03:15:40 AM
I define that as ignorant... when the knowledge is easily obtainable and available the taking but someone refuses to get it.
I assume you're talking about Bitcoinmax "investors"?
No I was talking about Micon constantly asking about things that have already beenposted.

things such as "bitcoinmax is ~157,500".

now it's ~168,300, but micon will probably never see this post and will continue to ask me how much it is and claim "it's not fair, he won't tell anyone!".

If Pirate came to you and asked"I don't have the 168k, but I have 130k. Would you accept that in order to settle this debt?" would you accept it?

hypothetical, because such a negotiation would have to include a deadline (whether stated explicitly or only implied). then before the deadline, i could have time to talk it over with my account holders.

although, i'm almost certain most would say yes, because that ratio is far higher than what some of the accounts have been trading for.
