It would be one of the greatest heists in the bitcoin community if shakaru ends up winning this auction below his original debt Tongue

Is he even allowed to bid? Roll Eyes

I thought about this, him bidding on his own debt will only push up the amount higher. Assuming he has the money he should let someone else win, then just pay it off. Why keep bidding it up, seems silly:/

the only reason he shouldn't be bidding imho is that any money he has should be going into the pot, not spending on other things such as 1 creditor's debt. him bidding on this debt wouldn't be fair to the other creditors.

anyway, there's no way real way to know whether burtwagner = shakaru or burtwagner != shakaru so it's a bit pointless even worrying about it.

35.6876 BTC (2%)

thanks burt, and thanks everyone else for all the off-topic replies, it keeps the thread on the front page.

I understand your mobile checkout does this, but the pimpcoin codes only return a static address every time, right? I was talking to Tony about this yesterday... I would be a good service for pimpcoin if you guys did this to generate new addresses for a girls's short URL to give her more privacy... this could justify the expense of your service too because of the added privacy.

The pimpcoin card works like the bitpay deposit card, but with a mobile interface to check balances and setup the direct deposit and everything. We move the bitcoins around shortly after receiving them, so querying the girls address won't disclose much.

And I would say that 2.69% to get bitcoins converted to dollars sent to your bank account the next day is very reasonable. It is hands down the fastest way to get bitcoins into your bank account Smiley

$$$

I would actually prefer the girls to use the coins within the bitcoin community and not "easily exchange them to $$$". after all, that was part the initial goal, right?

Both options are very important. If the girls opt to not covert to fiat via Bit-Pay, they'll need to have a simple list of merchants to go to that accept Bitcoin, ones that offer products and services that interest them--not us. An example would be that fishing lures are shaped, sized and colored to be marketed to the fisherman, not to the fish. (I now feel that this analogy sucks worms, but...) What I mean is that there needs to be a site that sells teddies at a reasonable price point and accepts Bitcoin on the list for example, and it can't be cheaply made teddies either, for the girls know the difference. For the best list possible, I suggest asking the girls what they would purchase using Bitcoin, and we, as a community, will make it happen for them.

~Bruno~

teddies? what the... really?!?

"I suggest asking the girls what they would purchase using Bitcoin". I can tell you one answer would come up as the winner: gardening supplies from SR.

Hahahaha, Phin is showing his age. Grin Teddies is a really really old term for some kind of old-school stockings.

in australia, teddies are a short lacy night-dress... lingerie style.

anyone bidding on this auction should have the capacity pay their bid amount within a reasonable timeframe - eg. 48 hours.

okay higher this time... sent 0.555

nice, anyone that beats you means lightlord actually makes profit this time... in other news, i'm out :p

well that was partially my motivation, seeing how much he lost on the last ones.

i actually PM'd him about this issue though, my high starting bid might have just killed the entire thing - sorry didn't quite think it through.  ...anyway i'll wait for his PM reply.

edit: he says it's fine, we'll just continue with it and see what happens.

1491  Economy / Auctions / Re: 7-day auction: 1784.38 BTC in Shakaru debt on: April 01, 2012, 02:59:07 AM
6BTC. So do you mean we would recieve 39% of the total BTC?

thank you.

it means whenever some 'shades/minico' (shakaru) debt is repaid, you'll get about 39% of that repayment distributed to you.

the reason this debt is 1784.38 and not 1800 btc, is because i had 15.62 distributed to me after 40.01 btc was repaid by Shakaru to the repayment address (an address under the control of a 3rd party - imsaguy).

so for example, whenever 100 btc of the debt is repaid, you'd get about 39 btc of that coming to you.

1 BTC!!!

thank you for your bid.

i should mention that this debt represents approx 39% of the total (i.e. you get about 39% of any funds sent to the repayment address).

1499  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What are botnets? on: April 01, 2012, 12:37:30 AM
Does the word "compromised" in the definition of what a botnet is ring a bell?

While the term "botnet" can be used to refer to any group of bots, such as IRC bots, this word is generally used to refer to a collection of computers (called zombie computers) which have been recruited by running malicious software.
That's the contemporary meaning of the word. It has strong negative connotations.

While it is true that the word "bot" can mean any program from first-person-shooter games AI opponents to harmless IRC bots, these are not used in the context of botnets(1) and thus irrelevant to our discussion(2).

Unless you want to try a valid argument for a change, I'm done here.

EDIT::a few links worth following:
http://www.honeynet.org/papers/bots/
http://www.abuse.ch/?p=3294
http://arstechnica.com/business/news/2012/03/p2p-botnets-the-bigger-they-come-the-faster-they-fall.ars

Notes:
(1) you can safely assume your Counterstrike bots won't take over your gaming machine Tongue
(2) effectively outside of the scope

since you're pulling wikipedia quotes i'll pull part of the same quote:

the term "botnet" can be used to refer to any group of bots

i agree that most are probably malicious

i disagree that 100% of them are 'inherently' malicious

Since bots are installed covertly...

really? ALL of them?
