"In this case, the Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”)
alleges that the defendants -- Terraform Labs Pte. Ltd., a “cryptoassets” company, and its founder, Do Hyeong Kwon –- orchestrated
a multi-billion-dollar fraud involving the development, marketing,
and sale of various cryptocurrencies. The SEC’s claims, all brought
under the federal securities laws, include a claim that defendants
offered and sold unregistered securities, claims that defendants
offered and effected transactions in unregistered security-based
swaps, and claims that defendants engaged in fraudulent schemes to
lead investors astray. One of the alleged fraudulent schemes is
that defendants misrepresented that one of Terraform’s crypto
asset securities, UST, was permanently pegged to a $1.00 price
through an automatic self-stabilizing algorithm, rather than
through the intervention of a third-party trading firm with whom
defendants struck a secret deal. .."

I use the Ledger hardware wallet with Metamask, but Metamask also collects user data. It is still possible to find secure wallets for Bitcoin, but it is difficult to do so for altcoins if you want to use hardware wallets. And I think we don’t know about surveillance on other wallets.

https://www.investopedia.com/terms/s/simple-agreement-future-tokens-saft.asp

"A simple agreement for future tokens (SAFT) is an investment contract offered by cryptocurrency developers to accredited investors. Because SAFTs are considered a security instrument, they must be filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

A Simple Agreement for Future Equity (SAFE) allows investors who put cash into a startup to convert that stake into equity at a later date—as long as specific conditions are met. For example, the company that received funds from the investor might specify in the contract that it must achieve specific goals before it issues the equity."

I have long been interested in how startups in the United States receive funding and register their projects with the SEC. SAFT and SAFE helps to attract money and easily register with the SEC, but there are other pitfalls.

https://www.sec.gov/education/smallbusiness/exemptofferings/rule506b
"Rule 506(b) of Regulation D is considered a “safe harbor” under Section 4(a)(2). It provides objective standards that a company can rely on to meet the requirements of the Section 4(a)(2) exemption. Companies conducting an offering under Rule 506(b) can raise an unlimited amount of money and can sell securities to an unlimited number of accredited investors. An offering under Rule 506(b), however, is subject to the following requirements:

no general solicitation or advertising to market the securities
securities may not be sold to more than 35 non-accredited investors (all non-accredited investors, either alone or with a purchaser representative, must meet the legal standard of having sufficient knowledge and experience in financial and business matters to be capable of evaluating the merits and risks of the prospective investment)"

Solana, Near, Flow, SAND and many other projects used this method and then violated Rule 506(b) by using active marketing after the sale. SEC is already preparing new claims.

United Arab Emirates is pretty good!

0% and legal as long as it was not obtained illegally.
In the United Arab Emirates, taxes are included in the standard of living. In these countries, real estate is very expensive, legal services for registering companies, medicine, education and real estate rental are also expensive. 4-5 months of the year it is very hot there, and if you are not used to temperatures of 50 degrees Celsius during the day, then it will be very difficult for you.
748  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Who owns the key? on: January 03, 2024, 10:09:21 AM
If someone randomly selects the exact same private key with yours (which is immeasurably improbable to happen), then two people have custody of the coins, and either of them can spend them to themselves. No, there is no law that protects you from such scenario.

Thanks! I think that's kind of the beauty of the challenge really, even at 266, nobody has figured it out in years.

I was just reading through the puzzle/challenge stuff, experimenting with some code, and naturally I tried hashing "password", which resulted in an address that did receive and send bitcoin. So, I started trying other random words, phrases, etc... I got a surprising amount of hits. I figure most of them are done comically, sarcastically, but I found it interesting, and wanted to see what the consensus was, or if there were any previous court rulings, or real world examples of this.
You try to act like hunters who have recently come to hunt and begin to divide the unkilled prey among themselves. Bitcoin is not primarily protected by legal laws that will not help ordinary citizens. Bitcoin is protected by mathematical laws that are fairer.

"Orbit Chain’s cross-chain bridge has reportedly been hacked for $81.5 million in cryptocurrencies and stablecoins.
The exact nature of the hack is unknown.

Orbit Bridge, a cross-chain bridge protocol, has seen unusual outflows of $81.5 million in several cryptocurrencies in what appears to be a major hack.

In five separate transactions, each to a fresh wallet, the Orbit Bridge sent $50 million in stablecoins (30 million Tether, 10 million DAI, and 10 million USDC), 231 wBTC (about $10 million), and 9,500 eth (about $21.5 million). The hack was first noticed by X user Kgjr. "

Smiley

Naira Stablecoins
The concept of a Naira stablecoin has been floating around for several years, with previous attempts in the past. The most recent was NGNT by the Token Mint consortium in 2019, consisting of major Nigerian crypto exchanges and African communities, including Helicarrier and Busha. NGNT is pegged 1:1 with the Naira and is on the Binance Smart Chain and the Ethereum Network, as BEP-20 and ERC-20 tokens, respectively."
754  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Who owns the key? on: December 31, 2023, 09:24:14 AM
Random and clone were a poor choice of words.

Let's say that someone hashed something, a book, a phrase, a word, etc... and used that hash as a private key to generate an address. You happen to generate the same private key, in the same manner. If there is a balance on that address, and you have the key, do you own it? The mantra, "Not your keys, not your coin" comes to mind.
I would advise you to first read this article to talk about regenerating any private key. This is only possible in theory.

There are 2^256 private keys out there: how big is that number?

756  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Republic of Suriname is considering a national strategy with BTC on: December 30, 2023, 11:42:34 AM
But Bitcoin is designed so that each user stores coins in a non-custodial wallet.

Sure, but what's good for an individual person is not always suitable for a state or large organisation. It's hard to imagine that private key(s) to an entire nation's bitcoin investment would be held either by a single official or a group of officials (for multisig wallets). Government employees are not famous for being too security-focussed or for taking their roles seriously. They probably wouldn't want such responsibility anyway.
So, in this case, using a trusted, centralised service, with all the insurance etc, seems perfectly justified.
I think that the private keys will belong to a private company that wins the tender and will be very close to the state. The company will first pursue a very correct and open policy in order to attract many users, and then the conditions will worsen and the number of blockings will increase. This is one of the financial traps for citizens.
757  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Signature mixers question on: December 30, 2023, 11:32:58 AM
~snip~
In Russia there are no criminal penalties for people who open a bank account and sell their bank cards.
Such a set with a SIM card costs $50-100, but if you only withdraw cash from an ATM, then blocking can happen very quickly, after withdrawing 2-5 thousand dollars.

One member of the forum offers such "No KYC cards" at a price of around 1000 EUR per year of use, and it seems to be quite a lucrative business. Of course, there are some rules for using the card so that it would not be blocked. However, regardless of the fact that the sale of bank cards is not punishable in Russia, I wonder who is responsible if such a card is involved in a criminal offense - the owner of the card or the one who actually uses it?
If this bank card is involved in petty fraud or cash-out or a minor crime, then it all depends on what testimony the person who sells the bank card will give. If he says that he sold the card to an unknown person, hiding it in the specified place. And the reason was an acute financial need, and there was not enough money for food, then the seller will not have criminal and administrative liability, except for a red mark in the bank.

But if this bank card is involved in a serious crime, such as terrorism, extremism, then the seller may have very big problems, even a long criminal sentence. Such criminal cases are closed and classified, so it is difficult to say the exact result.
758  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Who owns the key? on: December 30, 2023, 11:13:16 AM
I've been reading a lot about the 1000 BTC bounty for cracking a range of private keys.
It made me think... Hypothetically, if some was able to crack a BTC address with key, Do they own the coin?

Been reading through the Bounty and had the good & evil pop up on my shoulder.
Beyond the ethical ramifications are there laws protecting you if someome randomly clones your private key?
How do you own a key?
I have studied some practice on stolen bitcoins and I think that if you are an ordinary user and your cryptocurrency is stolen using a phishing site, viros, deception on social networks and the like, then getting your coins back is practically impossible. The police will not return your coins because they will be spent quickly. Exchanges and projects prefer to pay bounty rewards to hackers from 5 to 20% and not contact the police.

Hello,
Is MATIC better or DOT? Which one has better potential?

Thank you.
I have both of these assets, and it’s difficult for me to say which asset is better to invest in. Matic has less growth potential, but this ecosystem has already passed many tests and it will remain on the market. Porlkadot has a greater chance of price growth, but it has its own problems in an ecosystem where there is very little liquidity.
