Great idea, but wouldn't this fit better in Beginners & Help? Either way, can you guys make sure to update either the top post or second post with the questions and answers that are posted throughout this topic? It will be much easier to track that way, and when this topic has multiple pages, newbies won't have to go through pages and pages of Q/A. Just my $0.02! Great job!

As it currently stands, whoever it is has doubled their investment since initially buying into Bitcoin (September of 2017). They used the Chinese exchange Huobi.com to make their first deposit to this address, along with many other transactions.

https://www.walletexplorer.com/wallet/e8fb61953c163500

thats why the chart of bitcoin and the other altcoins went up. if its really the wall street then we get bloody days

Please don't be a shiller by speculating why prices of Bitcoin goes up or down. This had very little to do with the price of Bitcoin. If you look at the address and its history, you'll see that there has been trading every month since December, right around the middle of the month. Even during the huge dips in mid-January, this address was still active with transactions.

Either way, whoever owns this account is now a Bitcoin billionaire.

If I'm going to make an educated guess, I'm thinking that the address belongs to a financial firm in China that operates as a hedge or collective; I don't believe that this address belongs to a single individual. And some of the recent microtransactions make me believe that there is definitely some sort of automation happening, as well.

No response from Rightbtc after sending 4 emails.....maybe i expected too much

Don't get too discouraged just yet. While I have not personally heard of RightBTC, they do push some decent volume on the exchange, so I'd love to assume that it's not a huge scam site. And support tickets on exchanges can take a while to respond. My average support tickets take between a week and two weeks for the bigger exchanges.

Also, in the future, make sure to google the exchange that you're lookig at joining. A lot of exchanges are scammy by nature, but designed very well to fool new users... If in doubt, just come here, use the search feature for the exchange and look at the results. Members here are generally pretty experienced with exchanges.

Welcome to crypto, and good luck learning about and using Bitcoin!

If you're smart about gaining referrals, you can start racking them in. But only refer trustworthy faucets that pay out consistently, or you'll be stuck with spending money to advertise something that puts you at risk of not paying out.

To do this properly, you'll need a small investment, however. Maybe keep earning until you have enough to deposit into a bitcoin advertising network, or just buy a couple bucks worth of bitcoin to get started. Essentially, what you want to do is create some ads that are engaging to faucets (including your referral link) and buy some ads on the btc networks. Your referral count will shoot up, but chances are that not all of your referrals will continue being active. You'll have to play around with how much you spend and how much you get back from your efforts, but it can be profitable if you know what you're doing. That's how I started getting into Bitcoin, and I built a network of thousands of referrals by doing this. I was earning a couple hundred bucks a month for a couple hours a week.

Good luck, and feel free to message me if you have any additional questions!

746  Economy / Service Discussion / LocalBitcoins.com: New wave of scams! Steps to protect yourself (digital trades) on: February 16, 2018, 09:10:25 PM
There is definitely a new wave of scammers and hackers on www.LocalBitcoins.com, and while I'm savvy when it comes to selling my Bitcoin, I am reluctantly (and shamefully) posting this to help others protect themselves from what I've gone through.

The last three transactions that I've conducted on LBC for digital trades (PayPal) have all had their payments reversed. The hackers/scammers are getting extremely creative, and starting to mimic the actions and character of authentic great traders...

With that said, if you don't feel like reading the rest of this post, take this away from it: TAKE EXTREME CAUTION WHEN SELLING YOUR BITCOIN FOR PAYPAL. In fact, consider not selling your Bitcoin for PayPal at all.

So with that, here is a quote of some advice I gave to another user; I thought it could help protect you. Yes, most of it is just common sense, but reminders could prove to be helpful. Don't let that trade request for someone buying bitcoin at 20% above market price cloud your judgment!

If you have any more questions outside of what I've posted below, feel free to post here or send me a private message.

I've had successful transfers, and I've had fraudulent transfers where the payments were reversed on my payment processing accounts.

Be extremely cautious when dealing with Bitcoin buyers via PayPal. I used to think that the payment was safe if sending as "Friends or Family" via PayPal, but I had a payment that was reversed because the PayPal account that was used to send me the funds for the Bitcoin I sold ended up being hacked. I actually had a conversation with the owner of the account (the hacker didn't have access to his mark's email address), and the dude got screwed for tens of thousands of dollars because of the PayPal hack.

LocalBitcoins.com is best for face-to-face meetups. Be EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS when dealing with digital transfers or bank wires. Make sure to ask for documentation for EVERYTHING, and look out for the following things (as a seller):

  • 1. If the buyer is a new account, insist that they send you documentation to prove their identity and that they are who they say they are.
  • 2. If the buyer's account is verified, look through their feedback history to ensure that there are not any large gaps in between trades. If there are gaps, this could indicate that the buyer's account was purchased from the original owner (who may not have a need for their account any longer)
  • 3. Check their feedback history and sort it by "Negative" feedback. If any of the recent negative feedback pertains to a digital payment of any kind, avoid the trade at all costs, no matter how much above market price they are offering.
  • 4. Ask the buyer to provide you with their PayPal address, and that you will send them an invoice to that address for the amount that you've entered the trade for.
  • 5. Instruct the buyer to answer an email that you send to that address, or to send you an email from the email address of their PayPal account.
  • 6. Google the email address and see what pops up. If anything looks fishy, then avoid the trade. (example: the last time I initiated a trade with someone on LBC, the email address showed results for a 79-year old farmer from Georgia. Chances are that 79-year old farmers don't know anything about cryptocurrency...

I know that this sounds tedious, but trust me; it will help protect you in the end. Even if your trade is only for $100 or less, it would suck to be charged back or have a payment reversed for that $100... Protect yourself when dealing with digital payment options on LocalBitcoins.com

Additional tips from other members:

NEVER RELEASE BITCOINS FROM THE ESCROW BEFORE YOU RECEIVE YOUR PAYMENT.

Some traders will have what looks like a solid reputation: thousand over trades, huge volumes and great feedback. And they use that to try and bully you into releasing escrow right after they mark payment as complete. Do not ever do this. They might say "lol I trade for 5 years and people have no problems to do this" or try and make it seem they don't need your business but don't ever release escrow until you confirm payment. I have run into a few such people, and at least once I've come back across the same name, accused of never sending payment.

750  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Merit Ponzi on: February 16, 2018, 08:27:54 PM
Dude, give it a rest.

This goes against the fundamentals of why the merit system was introduced in the first place. If this idea of yours actually works (which more than likely won't, as you'll attract most newbies who don't have sMerit to give in the first place), you're susceptible to getting red-tagged for it for abusing the merit system, which could be considered highly untrustworthy.

If you're okay with red tags in your trust, then by all means, enjoy this Merit "Ponzi" Roll Eyes

For everyone else who respects their account, don't partake in this nonsense; just post quality content and you're bound to get merited eventually.
751  Economy / Marketplace / Re: What is the most critical moments in Cryptocurrency and Bitcoin history on: February 16, 2018, 08:19:24 PM
First, you should consider moving this topic to Bitcoin Discussion: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=1.0

Regarding your topic, I've really got two critical moments:

First, I gave a loan to an old co-worker back in 2010, and when he paid me back (late 2011), he also emailed me a private key to a bitcoin address with around $1,000 worth of Bitcoin that he gave me as a "bonus interest payment" for my loan. I had no idea what Bitcoin was at the time, so I didn't think anything of it. But when the first spike happened, I remembered that he had sent me the bitcoin, so I went to retrieve the email only to find that my email address had been purged because I no longer worked for the company. I contacted my friend to see if he had a copy of the sent email, and his email address was also purged after having left the company. I contacted some acquaintances in the IT department of the company, and because of a recent merger, they changed the way that they handled the email domains, and permanently purged all email addresses of employees that no longer work at the company. So yeah, I lost out on millions of dollars worth of Bitcoin.

Secondly, I sold my Nano (formerly RaiBlocks) last year at $0.05 each. I made a pretty profit on the deal for the 150,000+ XRB that I paid "miners" to claim. Well, in January, the 150K+ XRB was worth over $5m USD. The worst part is that I went against my golden rule of hodling any cryto that I believe in and that I find has a good value and base of service. The only solace I find in this whole situation is that given the recent hack on BitGrail, I would probably have been one of the ones affected by it anyways Tongue

Moral of the story? HODL HODL HODL lol
752  Other / Meta / Re: TMAN's Level up challenge.-- UPDATED... on: February 16, 2018, 08:01:49 PM

you called me Sir.. instant no no for me fella

I see. Why don't you accept my sign of respect? I don't know what country you came from but aside from it's description I think that should be the word I need to address you. I mean you're a Hero Member

First of all, being a Hero Member doesn't mean that they deserve more respect than any other rank. It just indicates the length of time that they've been on the forums.

Secondly, just being able to write and speak English isn't enough to earn Merits. If that was the case, then every single one of my posts should be merited.

I believe that the reason @TMAN referenced @nullius' posts is because they are relevant to the context of the topics that he/she decides to post in. Take a look at his/her posts, and look at the context of the topic. Spot on, and a great example of how newbies and low-ranked members should be posting.

And for the record, I've merited posts that weren't extremely proficient in English; my merits are based on what I find to be valuable to the Bitcointalk community AND to the given topic of discussion. I could actually give a shit less about how good someone's English is, as long as I know that they're putting forth a good effort to contribute here.
753  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Lost my job - Need Ideas on: February 15, 2018, 08:28:06 AM
Don't forget to check out Upwork.com and XBTFreelancer.com, as well. You can occasionally find jobs on the subreddit https://www.reddit.com/r/Jobs4Bitcoins/ and https://www.reddit.com/r/BitcoinJobs/

If you have CMS knowledge and a lot of time, I would highly recommend building a website dedicated to bringing in newbies to Bitcoin. Have a site that focuses on on-page SEO to target keywords for Bitcoin newbies. You can monetize ads on the site, but the real money could be in offering a service to find new referrals for the few paying faucets that are available out there. Faucets don't pay much, but if you can get thousands of referrals, and make a percentage of their earnings, it all adds up.

There are several exchanges that also offer a percentage of commissions from your referrals' trades, and again, while it may not be much, it all adds up in the end, so you can also add a list of exchanges to your website, as well. Within a couple of months, if you have several hundred referrals, it should give you a good base site to continue updating and staying relevant in the bitcoin game. Work on gaining a great following on Twitter, and try to find some bounty campaigns here to help you fill in some of the earning gaps, as well.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your job; I hope everything works out for you.

Do any of the websites or platforms have a maximum filesize limitation for how big these banners can be? I can make a 3/4-frame animation, or I can make a 60+ frame animation, but most platforms have a limitation. If so, can you please let us know what that is? Thanks!
756  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: Express VPN, IP Vanish VPN, and HideMyAss VPN Accounts with 6 - 12 Month Plans! on: February 12, 2018, 08:05:55 PM
So just after 24 hours, the credentials that OP provided me were pulled and changed, and I no longer have access to the VPN account.

I tried to connect to the VPN using the preconfigured app that I previously installed, and it failed to do so. It stays on the "connecting" screen for a few minutes until an error is finally displayed:

I have messaged OP to let him know of this incident, but if I may be honest, this is no different than any other services that have been offered here before in the forms of a shared account (in that the accounts were terminated or credentials changed well within the timeframe that was committed to upon purchase).

But with caution, folks.

757  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin seems dead as a currency. Be welcome to share your thoughts on: February 11, 2018, 07:30:07 PM
Lol @ the Mr. Robot reference!

In a nutshell, you should consider creating a SegWit-enabled address and start using it to transact bitcoins. I've sent several super-low transaction fees for my past several payments, mainly to test the network... And they've all cleared within the first few blocks after initiating the transactions.

26sat/byte: https://blockchain.info/tx/c46fd90647cc0c1071339e2b09c1643b8574487c0cdd7014b34b4bf50068f76a
15sat/byte: https://blockchain.info/tx/1c925686d899759c0793ac51e75eb634f8dbfeb01b3628bfdfb55dfbed34ee6a

As SegWit-enabled wallets become more commonly adopted by Bitcoin users, it should help with the network congestion. While the effects are pretty minuscule now, I can only imagine what would happen if the large exchanges like Coinbase and Bitfinex and Binance were to implement SegWit wallets...

As far as how "dead" it is as a currency? I pay my rent monthly with Bitcoin. I top up my phone with Bitcoin. I purchase food at restaurants (locally here in Belize, of all places) with Bitcoin. I use it on a regular basis, so I don't know about you, but I'm using Bitcoin as it was originally intended. Yes, I absolutely believe that the fees can and should be lower, but I assure you that it is alive and well, my friend. Smiley

Oh, and welcome back to the forums. Congrats on your new find!

I'm glad to hear that BTC is still being used as a currency but. What do you mean by "SetWit-enabled address"? Do you mean moving to a Bitcoin fork?

No. All it means is that you use a wallet that's SegWit-enabled. Considering the nature of the question you just asked, it's highly doubtful that you have any hardware or cold wallets... So I will recommend the SegWit wallet that I've been using.

GreenAddress: https://greenaddress.it/

It's available for PC or Mac (via the Chrome browser/extension), iPhone and Android

The biggest "inconvenience" is just having to switch your Bitcoin address. GreenAddress uses change-addresses, as well, which I believe is the most secure practice that you can have for accepting Bitcoin.

Look into it, and start doing some research about SegWit.
758  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What are the best Bitcoin faucets in 2018? on: February 11, 2018, 07:24:01 PM
Despite the negative rep that faucets have, there are some reputable bitcoin faucets that have been in the market for a long time and have a large user base. Robot Coin and Bitcoin Alien are pretty entertaining games to play to acquire some BTC. You can also try Bonus Bitcoin which doesn't have a limit to how much time you can spend earning, or bitcoinker that pays out higher amounts the longer you're on the site.

Enjoy!

Dude, it isn't 2015 anymore. Robot Coin and Bitcoin Alien have been disabled for a couple of years now. Bitcoinker isn't a "generator" faucet; it's a timed claim faucet. And Bonus Bitcoin is limited to claims every 15 minutes. You have no idea what the hell you're talking about, so stop spreading misinformation. Even if those sites were still active, the most you can make claiming from them would be a couple of bucks a month. Faucets used to pay out pretty before the price of Bitcoin jumped and before Google decided to demonetize ads from them. Now? Unless you have thousands of referrals, the amount you earn from faucets isn't even worth the electricity it takes for your device to visit them.
759  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: Express VPN, IP Vanish VPN, and HideMyAss VPN Accounts with 6 - 12 Month Plans! on: February 11, 2018, 08:54:25 AM
OP provided me with a vouch copy of credentials I was able to use to login on the ExpressVPN website. Once logged in, it shows that the account is valid until September 1 of 2018. You can also see that auto-renewal of payment has been enabled.

As you can see, the activation code for ExpressVPN software (on my mac, as well as my phone) is provided. Once I downloaded the app to both my computer and device, I used the activation code in order to enable the VPN service. I used New York as my location.

I will state that I have successfully logged into Netflix using the US location of the VPN, and I am now accessing more movies that were not available to me using my regular IP address (as I live abroad in Central America). The subtitles no longer default to Spanish, either  Cool

I have also successfully been able to play an MMORPG that normally blocks free/limited versions of unpaid VPN accounts.

All is working as normal. I will update this thread weekly with status updates as to whether the account is still working or not, or I will post sooner if the account is disabled. I won't change the password that has been provided to me.

Stay tuned, folks!

(I have also updated my top-most post in this thread with the same information so that it is more visible to viewers)

DarkStar_, you're pretty badass campaign manager. Don't tell him, but you've edged out @hilariousandco as my now all-time favorite camp man. And this camp is by now by far my favorite one. Should I dare be brazen enough to call this the best signature campaign on the forums, and not just because I'm a part of it... There really are some amazing quality posts being produced by us!

Great job pruning, DS, keep it up big homie.
