25GH for a mini single which draws 179W, almost the same power consumption as avalon, ...

Inaba/BFL_Josh wrote earlier this year:
"Avalon is 110nm ... I think they are using QFN ... We were fighting 60w of heat (granted, on a much smaller surface area) and it was a problem, I can't imagine trying to fight 300w of heat. For their sakes, I hope they have already considered these issues or it's going to be a nasty surprise the first time they turn a unit on and the chips start popping and letting the magic smoke out."

So, Josh, does this mean you have a problem now?  Wink
762  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: MTGox to Support Litecoin - Can Anyone Confirm? on: April 01, 2013, 02:00:23 PM
I just got a reply from Mt.Gox_Support_Natalie: "There are plans to implement other crypto-currencies in the future, however none of these are currently confirmed. Thank you for your interest in our business."

why luke lying?

Like attracts like: Luke is a scumbag. BFL is ...

764  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: First BFL ASIC! on: April 01, 2013, 01:33:14 PM
I don't see how getting a unit to Luke-Jr is anything remotely like shipping.

This! Shipping means customers getting ordered retail units. I don't get whats there to debate about this.

1) Luke-Jr did not get anything shipped. The unit is still at BFL in KC: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=163767.msg1714052#msg1714052

2) Does this look like a "retail unit" to you? Or more like a prototype?

765  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: bfl shipped(singular) 2013/3/31 on: April 01, 2013, 12:43:37 PM
Delivered

ok I will accept that but need to leave shipped in as it is in the tweet. reg

[23:42] <a_meteorite> Luke-Jr: that's the Little SC I'm assuming
[23:42] <Luke-Jr> a_meteorite: it's a defective board because I was impatient.
[23:43] <a_meteorite> that would explain the HW errors
[23:44] <a_meteorite> did you go to BFL HQ or was it shipped? assuming you can reveal that..
[23:44] <a_meteorite> I think you did go there at one point but I didn't think you stayed/went back
[23:44] <a_meteorite> that was like... 2 weeks ago
[23:49] <jzk> At this point I'm not sure he can even reveal his own existence
[23:54] <Luke-Jr> a_meteorite: I've physically touched it, but I've left it at BFL for the time being.

You can't claim on one hand that an item was shipped, and the on the other hand claim you left it at BFL.

179W / 24 Ghash = 7.5W / Ghash

768  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Announcement - ASIC mining processor by Butterfly Labs on: April 01, 2013, 10:58:01 AM
Butterfly Labs will not ship ASIC-based Bitforce SC products before April 2013

Close?  http://betsofbitco.in/item?id=701

It says: "The device must achieve at least 75% of its advertised hashrate."

So the result of this bet will be: No

Hanlon's razor:

OK.

770  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: bfl a scam? on: March 31, 2013, 08:12:43 PM
I don't think there is any malice in what they are doing though, ...

Promise in September (2012) to ship in October (2012) when they had literally nothing (no ASICS, no prototype, not even a functional design), stringing people along month after month and make fun of the competition (that managed to deliver their products months ago) - you don't see and "malice" in this?

Maybe they could donate it to the World Clown Association

When is the Jalapeno getting FCC approval?

Maybe two weeks? We are waiting for the test lab to issue the test report.

How to know that Inaba/BFL_Josh is lying:
(a) when he opens his mouth.
(b) when he uses the term "in two weeks".
775  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 3/28 What's BFL's big announcement? on: March 30, 2013, 09:17:33 PM
Making the BFL picture smaller than the Avalon picture is great for emphasizing your point ...

Come on, Crazyates, you can't be that retarded! You do realize that BFLs heatsink looks smaller in the picture because it is substantially smaller than Avalons?

- Avalons come in a casing the size of a PC (Midi-Tower) -> room for huge heatsinks
- BFL Single SCs come in a casing with size 10cm x 10cm (approx) -> only room for a tiny heatsink

The little box on the lower right is a BFL Single SC:

... and here is an Avalon miner:

BFL_Josh: "If the cooling becomes an issue, like I said, we'd scale it back and ship multiple units."

60GH/s!!! Has anyone seen this device? Me wanna buy!  Grin

777  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 3/28 What's BFL's big announcement? on: March 30, 2013, 08:30:36 PM
Sadly that 160W was only at 34GH/s IIRC.

So it's 280W for 60GH/s. Slightly above the 60W BFL promised.

Quote
Way above target, but still lower than Avalon. I want to see what the final numbers are.

Thing is: Avalon can handle the heat. BFL? 280W with a heatsink the size of a CPU cooler? Not so sure ...

Can you spot the difference?  Wink

778  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [VIDEO] Butterfly Labs (BFL) Bitforce SC ASIC Test on: March 30, 2013, 07:47:40 PM
What is the die size again?

Package size is 11mm^2.

11mm^2

Die size is 7.5mm^2 if I remember correctly.

20W for 7.5mm^2 is quite a lot of heat to dissipate.
779  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL batch 1 & 2 customers: Do you really wanna have a ticking time bomb? on: March 30, 2013, 05:50:47 PM
It's the FCC regulations that must be stringently adhere to, of which Josh adamantly claimed they were awaiting results back in a couple weeks back in September, for the FCC was still testing the units that weren't even built yet. To date, they still don't have a working unit to send out for testing.

You aren't hinting that BFL/Josh lied to us, are you?
780  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL progress.. Should I sell my Avalon's. Any feedback would be appreciated! on: March 30, 2013, 05:36:37 PM
No matter how you re-size it, that still looks like an OEM CPU cooler for one of AMD's high end CPUs... and that's able to dissipate 125 watts at full tilt.

... by the way: To cool a 125 Watt CPU I would use water, or at least something like this here:

Not sure how much heat the BFL heatsink can dissipate. But I highly doubt it's 160 Watt or even 120 Watt.
