I had the same issue. Update fixes the stuck sync. process.

To me it also seems that the new version syncs faster than the former one. Nevertheless I heard about a bug in the new version that needs to fixed. Anyone else heard about it?

Could you be a bit more specific?
782  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: April 24, 2017, 09:50:03 AM
I use a monero gui wallet
1 week sync block 1288639 stops moving

Are you using beta 1 or beta 2? If it is the former, you are probably stuck on the wrong (alternate) chain. Please update to beta 2:

I probably relayed your message to the developers, but forgot to open a specific issue for it. Hence, it might have been overlooked. I've opened an issue now for more visibility.

https://github.com/monero-project/monero-core/issues/655

Got it! Thanks for doing this. Coolness! Other than that, really nice new features in the current release.

The release notes mentioned "unsigned transaction" and "Cold transaction signing". Do these mean that offline transaction signing is now possible with this release? If so, is there a step-by-step guide/instruction on how to go about it posted somewhere?

Yes and this is as close to a guide as I could find:

https://monero.stackexchange.com/questions/2160/how-do-i-use-cold-transaction-signing

https://monero.stackexchange.com/questions/2868/is-there-any-way-to-construct-a-transaction-manually/

Note that these guides use the CLI, so they might need some tweaking for the GUI.

Thank you.

I'd wait until it gets incorporated into GUI. Will it be so in the next release? CLI horrifies me so I'm liable to bungle the process. Nevertheless, I bookmarked the links...just in case.

Cold signing is integrated into the GUI. That said, the guides / tutorials are based on the CLI. However, with some tweaking you should be able to follow them using the GUI.

The new version is using a lot (!) of CPU on my server, is there a "low cpu usage" mod again for pools ?

Probably best to ask in #monero-pools (freenode).
785  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: April 18, 2017, 05:35:23 PM
Not a bug. Those messages can be ignored.

The reorg message is normal and the batch transaction message is a known issue by the db developer and he says it is harmless.

But not synced since 3 days.
Wrong balance, how is that not bug?

Have you upgraded to the latest software? Monero hard forked 3 days ago.

I have Monero wallet hmm 3 weeks old.
So if I no have latest so I cant send coins to market or everywhere ?
Or will be still working Huh

Which wallet are you using?

As being discussed on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/65dj7u/an_empirical_analysis_of_linkability_in_the/

"[–]yuvzst [score hidden] 19 minutes ago
Note this paper is written by Andrew Miller(Zerocoin Electric Coin Company ie Zcash).
First off this paper has misleading claims that "66% of inputs so far" have zero mixin. Inputs that had 0 mixin before it was mandatory in early 2016 can still use a mixin. This is not really a problem.
The triangular distribution is only a temporary solution for outputs and work is being done to change it. There are many people working on this https://github.com/monero-project/monero/issues/1673
This paper has some good points but we already knew about these problems. This paper coinciding with the hardfork to spread fear today is very convenient..."

THANKS! Fixed - found all of my monero's except for 3 Huh oh welll... Taking that as a 'cost of doing business' loss.

Have you tried rescanning the blockchain in monero-wallet-cli?

Code:
  rescan_bc            Rescan blockchain from scratch

@akula999

For clarity, this command has to be typed into monero-wallet-cli. However, I'd first use the show_transfers command to see if anything is off.

Is mymonero site working for you guys? It's hung up on a transaction now for a few hours, what gives?

It seemed a little iffy yesterday as well.

How long do these hang ups normally last? I can't send anything else right now either. My account is in essence frozen as it says unconfirmed for a few hours now. I can't even make any other transactions.  Sad

Do transactions time out on mymonero? What is the normal wait when something is hung up?
I might have posted this in the wrong place initially

Posted this in the other thread:

Probably best to contact their support (support@mymonero.com).

Can anyone help... ?? Why won't it load?

I'd advise to delete the the blockchain, because a full resync is most likely needed. This is done as follows:

1. Open your Windows explorer.

2. Type the following into the navigation bar (the one at the top): C:\ProgramData\bitmonero\lmdb

3. Delete data.mdb.

4. Now you can restart monerod.exe. Note that you will have to resync from scratch, which may take some time.

I was expecting the "current wallet name" indicator to be included on this release. What happened? I suppose it was difficult to implement.

Monero doesn't have UXTOs, because in Monero you cannot distinguish between unspent and spent transaction outputs due to Monero's untraceable nature. That said, the size of a transaction will grow as you use more inputs, which correspond to a higher absolute fee.

Is there a Monero white paper I can read?

All my XMR transactions are incoming ring CT transactions. Does this make sweep_unmixable not worthwhile? If I want to combine UTXO's, what's the best way to do this in monero?

The sweep_all command will give you the ability to sweep your whole wallet (i.e. all inputs) to a specified address. Type "help" into `monero-wallet-cli` to see the exact command and how it should be used.

Presumably this means it incurs a transaction fee like bitcoin, based on the number of UTXO's? Just wondering about UTXO management, but hopefully things will never get as bad as bitcoin is at the moment.

I am loading up an old wallet from 2014 to see what was in it and I found about 120 or so Monero.  I was going to transfer this to an exchange but my output says:

Error: Failed to find a way to create transactions. This is usually due to dust which is so small it cannot pay for itself in fees, or trying to send more money than the unlocked balance, or not leaving enough for fees

So I looked at the log and it says:

WARN    wallet.simplewallet   src/simplewallet/simplewallet.cpp:2491   not enough money to transfer, available only 123.082344170105, transaction amount 128.195681160000 = 123.000000000000 + 5.195681160000 (fee)

So is there REALLY an over 5 XMR fee for sending Monero or am I doing something wrong?  I mean if that is the fee for sending transactions I don't know how Monero is still alive.  I am guessing that I am doing wrong on my part.  Thanks for your help.

Your wallet most likely has a lot of (small) inputs, which makes the size of the transaction fairly large. A typical RingCT transaction currently is around 20-25 cents. In addition, if I recall correctly, the fee will be slightly lower after the upcoming hard fork (April 15).

Given that you own a wallet with a lot of (small) inputs. I'd advise to do as follows.

[1] Run the sweep_unmixable command in monero-wallet-cli. This will combine all your small unmixable inputs into a single output. That is, it will basically "undust" your "dust".

[2] Subsequently, you should be able to use sweep_all to send your full balance to a different address (if that is your intend). Note that the fee will be subtracted from the total balance. Thus, if you, for instance, have 100 XMR and the transaction costs 0.1 XMR (fee), 99.9 XMR will be sent to the recipient and the miner that includes your transaction into a block will take 0.1 XMR as fee.

That is very good info thank you.  Yes I there are a lot of small transactions when I was pool mining way back when.  I am getting this now when running the command:

Balance: 123.082344523698, unlocked balance: 123.082344523698
[wallet 111111]: sweep_unmixable
Wallet password:
Error: internal error: Transaction cannot pay for itself

Also, Every time I run the monero-wallet-cli.exe I get the green transaction and the received then I eventually get to a prompt where I can type commands.  Earlier my wallet was only showing 59 monero now it is showing 123 and not sure why it has changed.  Pleasant surprise.  Thanks for your help btw.

[1] Like your error states, the amount of unmixable inputs does not exceed the fee that would be needed to consolidate them into one big output. I'd advise to try sweep_all then and see if you are able to get the full balance out. If not, try using smaller amounts and create multiple transactions.

[2] You are most likely not saving monero-wallet-cli properly and thus it has to fetch new blocks (which contain your transaction) every time on startup. Make sure to exit monero-wallet-cli by typing exit instead of clicking on the x. In addition, with the "show_transfers" command you can see a record of your past transactions.

Thanks for the response.  I am trying trying to find good documentation on how to use the sweep_all command and I am having trouble.  Can you tell me the proper syntax?

I manged to find some commands and ran:

sweep_all <address> <payment id> and I get:

Error: not enough outputs for specified mixin_count = 4:
output amount = 0.000344170105, found outputs to mix = 1

Could you try the transfer command with a small(er) amount? The command is transfer <address> <amount> <payment_id>. In addition, you can type "help" into monero-wallet-cli to find which commands are available and their documentation.

I tried it with just 10 XMR using command:

transfer <address> <amount> <payment_id>
Wallet password:
Sending 10.000000000000.  Your transaction needs to be split into 3 transactions.  This will result in a transaction fee being applied to each transaction, for a total fee of 0.185646781530
Is this okay?  (Y/Yes/N/No):

Is this fee high for this?

No, that's fine. The fee is simply determined by the size of your transaction and given that you have a lot of small(er) inputs, you'll have relatively large transactions that correspond to relatively higher fees.
