I am loading up an old wallet from 2014 to see what was in it and I found about 120 or so Monero. I was going to transfer this to an exchange but my output says:
Error: Failed to find a way to create transactions. This is usually due to dust which is so small it cannot pay for itself in fees, or trying to send more money than the unlocked balance, or not leaving enough for fees
So I looked at the log and it says:
WARN wallet.simplewallet src/simplewallet/simplewallet.cpp:2491 not enough money to transfer, available only 123.082344170105, transaction amount 128.195681160000 = 123.000000000000 + 5.195681160000 (fee)
So is there REALLY an over 5 XMR fee for sending Monero or am I doing something wrong? I mean if that is the fee for sending transactions I don't know how Monero is still alive. I am guessing that I am doing wrong on my part. Thanks for your help.
Your wallet most likely has a lot of (small) inputs, which makes the size of the transaction fairly large. A typical RingCT transaction currently is around 20-25 cents. In addition, if I recall correctly, the fee will be slightly lower after the upcoming hard fork (April 15). Given that you own a wallet with a lot of (small) inputs. I'd advise to do as follows. [1] Run the sweep_unmixable command in monero-wallet-cli. This will combine all your small unmixable inputs into a single output. That is, it will basically "undust" your "dust". [2] Subsequently, you should be able to use sweep_all to send your full balance to a different address (if that is your intend). Note that the fee will be subtracted from the total balance. Thus, if you, for instance, have 100 XMR and the transaction costs 0.1 XMR (fee), 99.9 XMR will be sent to the recipient and the miner that includes your transaction into a block will take 0.1 XMR as fee.

When is the next release?
Latest stable/CLI was released just a few posts up I believe? dEBRUYNE said the next GUI beta 2 to address the HF should be out shortly, like the next day or so? Unfortunately, there were some issues with 0.10.3, which have been fixed in the new release candidate (0.10.3.1). As a result, the GUI Beta 2 release has been postponed for a few days.

Will beta GUI 2 <windows binaries> will be out for the HF in time? Thanks for always keeping us updated as well. edit - added <windows binaries> The plan was to release GUI Beta 2 in conjunction with this point release. Thus, I expect the GUI Beta 2 binaries to be out tomorrow or the day thereafter. You're welcome!

Can anyone assist with an issue re. the GUI wallet please: I want to withdraw XMR from Polo to keep in my local GUI wallet and after the wallet is synced etc. I am being presented with the receiving addresses: So, I enter the receiving address and payment ID from the XMR wallet: and I get: I then tried to send 1 XMR to the same address without the payment ID and get an error: Anyone know whats wrong? When I use the 'Integrated Address' is seems to work. You are using a short, encrypted payment ID and Poloniex currently doesn't support those. In addition, if you are sending to your own wallet, you don't need to add a payment ID. Thus, for you situation, I'd advise to only fill in the address.

Since January Monero already has a working GUI wallet and its second beta is coming soon too. I hope that someone will finally put the GUI on the current monero site getmonero.org, or at least on the upcoming new disign site. It's confusing otherwise.
Monero will paint dash chart, mark my words. Cant miss out on a pump when I see it coming a mile away. Setting up a target slightly below 0.16 BTC and taking all my monero off the exchange. Will grab another pile when the new uptrend is confirmed, gotta say that the whole image of monero has improved greatly since the last time I was in. When are they going to have new design on their site? Their site looks quite old and console wallet scares people, so Monero indeed can rise when they finally get two these things done. [1] There's a proposal for a redesign, see: https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/605lxj/getmoneroorg_redesign_please_critique_and_discuss/[2] You don't necessarily have to use the command line, because there is a GUI beta: https://getmonero.org/2016/12/22/monero-core-gui-beta-released.html

The upcoming beta release (beta 2) will be listed on the downloads page and the "choose wallet page" as far as I know.

Is the monero GUI wallet compatible with the latest command line wallet?
Yes (as far as I know).

i have this problem for a long time now , i have my Private Login Key (mnemonic) from years ago when mining monero easy , BUT.. 1 mnemonic word is missing
keep saying : You seem to be missing the last word in your private key, please try again
so i have 24 words ( need 25 )
but is it absolute the last word
or could it also be an other place for the missing mnemonic word?
Are you using MyMonero to import your seed? If not, which wallet are you using? Yes i am using mymonero , i am using the old words But it recognized the mnomic seed , it says that i forgot the last one MyMonero doesn't support 24 word seeds. It should work with the GUI or the CLI. For convenience, I'd advise to use the GUI. Link: https://getmonero.org/2016/12/22/monero-core-gui-beta-released.htmlJust click on the restore from 25 word mnemonic seed option in the wizard and the process should be fairly straight forward. If you get stuck somewhere, don't hesitate to ask questions!

So I was refreshing on an initial install and got about 1/2 through. My computer ran out of juice and when it came back up I ran ./monerod again and got 2017-03-17 20:43:38.876 7fb53e709780 INFO global contrib/epee/src/mlog.cpp:145 New log categories: *:WARNING,net:FATAL,net.p2p:FATAL,global:INFO,verify:FATAL,stacktrace:INFO 2017-03-17 20:43:38.877 7fb53e709780 INFO global src/daemon/main.cpp:282 Monero 'Wolfram Warptangent' (v0.10.2.1-release) 2017-03-17 20:43:38.877 7fb53e709780 INFO global src/daemon/protocol.h:55 Initializing cryptonote protocol... 2017-03-17 20:43:38.877 7fb53e709780 INFO global src/daemon/protocol.h:60 Cryptonote protocol initialized OK 2017-03-17 20:43:38.878 7fb53e709780 INFO global src/daemon/p2p.h:63 Initializing p2p server... 2017-03-17 20:43:40.853 7fb53e709780 INFO global src/daemon/p2p.h:68 P2p server initialized OK 2017-03-17 20:43:40.853 7fb53e709780 INFO global src/daemon/rpc.h:58 Initializing core rpc server... 2017-03-17 20:43:40.853 7fb53e709780 INFO global contrib/epee/include/net/http_server_impl_base.h:70 Binding on 127.0.0.1:18081 2017-03-17 20:43:40.854 7fb53e709780 INFO global src/daemon/rpc.h:63 Core rpc server initialized OK on port: 18081 2017-03-17 20:43:40.854 7fb53e709780 INFO global src/daemon/core.h:73 Initializing core... 2017-03-17 20:43:40.854 7fb53e709780 INFO global src/cryptonote_core/cryptonote_core.cpp:316 Loading blockchain from folder /home/nattyonelight/.bitmonero/lmdb ... 2017-03-17 20:43:40.855 7fb53e709780 WARN blockchain.db.lmdb src/blockchain_db/lmdb/db_lmdb.cpp:1138 LMDB memory map needs to be resized, doing that now. 2017-03-17 20:43:40.855 7fb53e709780 INFO global src/blockchain_db/lmdb/db_lmdb.cpp:487 LMDB Mapsize increased. Then you should have sufficient small inputs to make consistent payouts to your miners. However, it could be that the selection algorithm is picking the big input.
Adjusting those parameters won't make a difference for the selection algorithm. Also, it seems unlikely that the downgrade caused your problem.
Like I said before, it will probably resolve over time. Alternatively, if you aren't already doing so, try to payout to multiple addresses (recipients) in a single transaction. If you don't know how to do this type "help" into monero-wallet-cli and subsequently scroll down to the "transfer" command. There will be an explanation on how to pay out to multiple addresses (recipients) in a single transaction.
Yeah. pool should have plenty of small inputs but did not. That's why I'm still curious about it. I'll try multiple payouts in one transaction. Just one question. Would this multiple payouts cost more fee than sending one by one? less? or same? Thanks. A bit less as far as I know. A typical RingCT transaction has 2 inputs and 2 outputs and will be approximately 13 kB. For example: https://xmrchain.net/tx/1d042333217e7e7062e5aadac701daec64c703e62e33f534a516ccbd0586b9c8If, however, you look at this transaction it has 2 inputs and 6 outputs: https://xmrchain.net/tx/15ce266893d2a1c7048d091892d6d0576e40575027dcbc382979d7fea0bc4c95Therefore, it is likely that this is a payout to 5 different recipients (probably miners) and the change output. From the transaction we can see that the size is approximately 38 kB. By contrast, 5 separate transactions would probably have a bigger cumulative size. Thus, most likely you will save some on fees due to the size of the single transaction being smaller than cumulative size of the separate transactions.
