801  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Empty blocks on: March 07, 2016, 08:13:04 PM
Unfortunately money is the only motivator to the spv mining pools.  I hope that it becomes financially necessary for them to stop mining empty blocks, it will be a great thing for the network once they do, and it would give a more accurate portrayal of how the network is able to handle tons of transactions (and hopefully put an end to the excessive delays waiting for tx to go through).
802  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN AntRouter R1: 1st wireless networking device with bitcoin mining chip on: March 07, 2016, 08:10:49 PM
Bitmain has a bug in their firmware/cgminer implementation?  Who would have ever guessed?!

They've had errors in almost every single one of their gui's since the S1, no surprise the R1 has failings, too.

Unless the R1 is smarter than we think and only reports btc blocks found... unlikely and realistically will never be tested.
803  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [25 PH] ** 5x AVALON6 GIVEAWAY ** Kano CKPool (kano.is) [0.9% PPLNS] US,DE,SG,JP on: March 07, 2016, 08:06:34 PM
I am mining solo via ckpool, but also mine here at kano.is. - I think of kano.is and ckpool as the same thing. Sorry.

Both kano.is and solo.ckpool.org use ckpool, but neither one is ckpool itself if that makes sense.  ckpool is open sourced and lots of people use it across the network.

If I had a say in the bitcoin core code I would have implemented minimum transactions to be included in each valid block when the mempool is > 0 (i.e. always).
804  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: diff thread Mar 3 to Mar 17? picks are closed.... Setting it up prize = 0.1 btc on: March 07, 2016, 07:59:28 PM
Yea, price was a bit up and down over the weekend, but it's holding its own.  I can't see any direct relationship between price and diff, which is counter-intuitive to me, but it is what it is.  I would be afraid of a rising price if it could be linked directly to rising diff, but that does not seem to be the case recently.  Another small negative would be great, would like to see diff below 150G, but if it has to be positive hopefully it will stay under 5% (even though 5% of 160G is still a lot of new hash!).
805  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: OFFICIAL CGMINER mining software thread for linux/win/osx/mips/arm/r-pi 4.9.2 on: March 07, 2016, 07:51:27 PM
Same goes for S5.
When you guys did the cgminer update for the S1 and the S3 I thought I recalled that the anonymous donor had given enough coin to update the S5 as well, did that never end up happening?
806  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Signature Campaigns: Worth The Time? on: March 07, 2016, 07:43:36 PM
If you post here anyway and have stuff to contribute, then a sig campaign makes sense.  Why not earn a few satoshi each week while you post in the forums anyway?

The people who buy accounts and post with their only goal to be earning money from a sig campaign are what ruins it for everyone and gives sig campaigns a bad name.
807  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2015-16 Regular Season Discussion on: March 07, 2016, 07:41:29 PM
Lakers have been my team my whole life, but about 5 years ago I started watching GSW because they picked up Klay Thompson and I was always at Mychal Thompson fan.  Just my luck, too, that that's when the Lakers started sucking and Golden State too off like wild fire.  The Lakers win was a crazy upset, I wish I had put my bet down like I meant to.
808  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do people around you think about Bitcoin ? on: March 07, 2016, 07:37:14 PM
Most of my friends have heard of bitcoin, but they really don't know what it is.  When I start explaining the blockchain and how it works, and miners and all that most of them think I'm crazy, but a few of them are techies and "get it", but I haven't been able to get any of them to start mining or even try to use bitcoin.
809  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Bitminter bitcoin mining pool - Pays TxFees, Merged Mining, Fair PPLNS rewards on: March 07, 2016, 04:05:22 AM
First full shift after everything is running properly shows 70GH, just as was expected.  Rejects are 0.02% less on us2 vs. 1, so I'll leave them pointed there.

This stuff happens to me with cars all the time, where you change one thing and something unrelated goes wrong and you wonder how the two are related... but they're not.

CDF is just about 50%, we could expect a block any time now.  Smiley
810  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: cryptoGlance [v2.1] :: Open-source, self-hosted, multi-rig monitoring tool! on: March 07, 2016, 04:02:23 AM
I just tried to add ckpool:

Running V2.2.1-BETA on windows

Did I miss something ?

I realise it's been posted 2 pages ago but I couldn't find a solution.
I do some test tomorrow. (logout/restart app/restart computer)

i had this problem, got fixed with a complete reinstall.. add the pool first, then upgrade..

If you scroll back a few pages you will see the same discussion where this took place.

Could you add Johnny's pool, http://www.bravo-mining.com/, to the list of pools we can add please?  His site has an api for user stats and pool stats available is json format, would be cool to see that info in crytoglance.

Shouldn't need to remove and re-add. Only have to wait +2 minutes (or something like that, it's a hard-coded "cache" value so pools don't block your IP when fetching data). If nothing has changed after 2 minutes prior to the code change, refresh the dashboard... Or, remove the pool "cache" inside user_data/pools/bitminter/*
That got it changed, thanks.
812  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S5 + 3D printed mods on: March 06, 2016, 08:34:03 PM
I was thinking/hoping the plates would have a bigger effect on the miner than a measly 1C/1dB. I look forward getting the final numbers when you install the ducts, however.
Well the real benefit isn't just installing them with the stock fan, it's that I should be able to run a quieter fan/less rpm and still achieve adequate cooling vs. the cranked up loud stock fan.
813  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Bitminter bitcoin mining pool - Pays TxFees, Merged Mining, Fair PPLNS rewards on: March 06, 2016, 08:32:01 PM
I'll let everything run for a bit and then try us2, because I am still seeing the interrupt/reject share/restart work thing.
I put the usb sticks on my laptop and they're running just fine (14GH on the compac, 8GH on the nanofuries), so there's a usb issue with my poor old tower computer.

I pointed them to us2 and have not seen any work restarts in the couple hours they've been running, so it's possible that was related to the problem with my other computer as well.

Mine on.  Cool
814  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: March 06, 2016, 08:24:32 PM
I honestly just think its retirement lag. Difficulty went up so fast that a lot of gear got make unprofitable in  a 1-month spam. s3, sp10 are pretty much useless now unless you have "free" power. 0.5w/G gear soon too if you pay >$0.12/kwh
I run one machine for fun because I enjoy mining, my electricity costs are high enough that profit is not possible, so I solo mine mostly.  But even I recent turned off my S3 and got an S5 because even though it's more expensive for me, the improved efficiency is worth it.  I'm going to move soon, and depending on rates there I will likely end up with an S7.
815  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S5 + 3D printed mods on: March 05, 2016, 10:52:11 PM
A friend of mine printed up the mods for me and I installed most of them on my S5 last night.  I did not have the flat top M3x5mm screws so I couldn't do the intake or exhaust ducts just yet.

Bottom plates going on.

Top plates on.

Controller board reinstalled and ready to hash!

It runs about 1*C cooler with just the top and bottom plates (fan set at 60%) and 1dB quieter.  When I install the intake and exhaust ducts I will also be adding a pull fan and then play around with oc'ing.

It doesn't seem like the op is active anymore, I would like to verify he still has access to the btc address in the first post so I could send him a tip.
816  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Jonny's Mining Emporium (bravo-mining.com) - New Promotion! on: March 05, 2016, 05:29:49 AM
The new Avalons are up and running.  20TH of my own hardware... If only I had this much power a couple years ago... Lol
That's really cool, do you host them or have your own space for them?  I just got my first S5 and that's a big deal to me, to see 1.15TH in my monitor.  Grin

So I just solo mine with the S5 but I think I'm going to point it here for fun, it would see a "significant" payout when this pool hits a block vs. what it would see in larger pools.  Plus it would be much better odds than solo.  I'm shutting it down tonight to install 3D printed ducts, when it comes back it will be mining here for a while, at least for a block hopefully.  Smiley

Question: what does the "Monitor" slider on/off do?
817  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Bitminter bitcoin mining pool - Pays TxFees, Merged Mining, Fair PPLNS rewards on: March 05, 2016, 05:21:32 AM

About the disconnects, let me know if us2 or eu1 works better.

...

That is indeed odd. Does it go up and down a lot, or is it 4-5 GH/s all the time?

It was staying 4-5GH all day long.  I could access it remotely and restarted it several times and nothing changed; however when I got home and physically restarted it (i.e. unplug from hub, unplug hub, etc.) everything was back to normal for a bit, now it's acting up again.  Anyway, like you said, is not pool related and must be something else.

I'll let everything run for a bit and then try us2, because I am still seeing the interrupt/reject share/restart work thing.
818  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: diff thread Mar 3 to Mar 17? picks are closed.... Setting it up prize = 0.1 btc on: March 05, 2016, 05:15:12 AM
Looks like someone flipped a switch, network hash rate took a huge spike up after the negative adjustment.  Gee, could that be on purpose?

I just saw this and thought I'd share it here in honor of Kano's avatar and block party Friday.
820  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Bitminter bitcoin mining pool - Pays TxFees, Merged Mining, Fair PPLNS rewards on: March 04, 2016, 11:45:08 PM
At Bitminter only a new bitcoin block makes old work get rejected.
That is not what I'm seeing, for example here is a reject that just happened as a result of the work restart:

You can see the same type of work rejection in the screen cap I posted a few posts up, too.

But yeah, have a look at the worker options and disable "Merged mining stale flush". That should reduce the frequency of those.
Done, I unchecked that box for all my workers.  What are the pros/cons of that check box?  I would hope to eliminate work restarts outright rather than reduce the frequency.  Oh, and the screen cap immediately above was taken 15 minutes after I made this change, so it did not appear to eliminate it.

And no explanation why my gekko stick only mines here at 4-5GH instead of 12-14GH?  It's very odd and I can reproduce easily, just change from kano to bitminter back and forth and note the speed difference.
