CBF calculating it but it just might look like the spread is increasing when it is staying constant in % terms.

Out of curiosity you be a bit more specific about location?

This is the weekend crash.
8165  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How did ASIC liscensed Plus500 add Bitcoins to the trading exchange ? on: January 05, 2014, 10:40:24 AM
Had a look at their website.  They list XBT and Litecoin under forex CFDs.  Using Mt Gox plus 0.1 % spread.
8166  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How did ASIC liscensed Plus500 add Bitcoins to the trading exchange ? on: January 05, 2014, 10:32:16 AM
My guess is that it's not bitcoins it is CFDs linked to bitcoins.  Which means you take the credit risk on Plus500.  Which if the complaints from the English users are anything to go by, it's potentially a crappy deal.

I don't know how much ASIC supervises what CFDs are tied to but expect they largely don't care.  ASIC makes very clear that it does not regard CFDs are suitable for most retail investors.

You wouldn't need to worry about burglars.

Probably tighter security than the Whitehouse...
8168  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Monthly subscriptions in bitcoin on: January 05, 2014, 09:49:29 AM
I don't think we will get Spotify and other subscription services on board without automated payments.

If we don't yet have this capability it is a serious barrier to widespread adoption by merchants.

Possible solutions:

* Circle / Bitpay or other money processor to step forward
* Time based escrow? (Eg each monthly payment escrowed until relevant month)
* special wallet that accepts pull requests from authorised entities.

I am sure there are elegant ways to do this.
8169  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Monthly subscriptions in bitcoin on: January 05, 2014, 09:32:07 AM
Simple question.

How would a monthly subscription to Spotify work with bitcoin?

Spotify currently debits my credit card every month.  Would I need a third party debit card denominated in bitcoin to automate these monthly payments?  Is that the missing killer app?
8170  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is BitTrade Exchange Australia a Bitcoin Foundation SCAM ? on: January 05, 2014, 09:16:38 AM
Their rates are much worse than Coinjar so I never bothered looking into them.

*edit* I still pull my btc off coinjar pretty quickly.
8171  Economy / Speculation / Re: Chances we'll see another Bitcoin crash ( buying opportunity ) 1st quarter 2014? on: January 05, 2014, 08:50:35 AM
All Bitcoin! All crash! All the time!

In other words yes.

PS it's not a crash until it hits 50% of the previous ATH.

8173  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Contest to name the 0.0001 BTC unit (0.1 BTC prize!) on: January 05, 2014, 05:28:11 AM
Following on from my prior suggestion of 1 Nakamoto :

1 Satoshi can be shortened to 1 Sat, then
1 Nakamoto can be shortened to 1 Nak.

So I also put forward "Nak"

8174  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If bitcoin had the market value of Facebook... on: January 05, 2014, 03:54:46 AM
There are only 12 million bitcoins in circulation.  Divide by 12 not by 21.
8175  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 05, 2014, 01:36:08 AM

8176  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 05, 2014, 01:30:42 AM

I thought your license plate was going to say "HODL!!"

That is not bad but since BTC is taken I think I will use XBT.   HODL would be some lol!

BTC is already taken in missouri?

BTC taken in my area. XBT available at a cost of $3k.  I would rather put the 3k into bitcoins...
8177  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 05, 2014, 01:18:42 AM
Sooo, what happened to the weekend dip? And what happened to the people who reserved some fiat to exploit it? I guess they have not cleared. Another sunday rally coming.

I'll tell you what happened.  They (me) burnt that fiat buying in about 5 minutes ago. Smiley

I am fine with that.  I am still sitting on all the coins I bought all the way down from 800 to 500 with my heart in my mouth last crash. (I started panic holding when it dropped under 500).
8178  Economy / Economics / Re: Paul Grignon Just made Bitcoin killer on: January 04, 2014, 11:51:48 AM
To ask the question again - what stops defaults from happening in this wonderful world?

If the answer is "trust" them I'm out.

The same thing that keeps every market honest. Feedback. Only producers with verifiable credit history will be allowed to issue credit. If the power company wants to issue me credits in exchange for my boat parts I think they are good for it, if they are not I will leave negative feedback.

In the real world I will insist that you pay in advance, give me a bank guarantee, irrevocable letter of credit or put funds into my lawyer's escrow account before I do business with you.  Feedback is overrated.
8179  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: 6 blocks in 16 minutes! on: January 04, 2014, 10:05:08 AM
We are ahead of schedule due to hash rate continuing to rocket up. I cannot tell you how far ahead.
