anyone got any idea on what the bounty would be for getting an article on NXT published in bitcoinamagzine?

Due to the whitepaper only being released on the 19.01.2014 we will split the 42048000 into 3 parts and distribute one part of 14.016.000 units per week. So investors that decide to invest before reading the whitepaper will get more coins per investment.

You have 2 contradicting sentences there.

May I propose to not use the word darkNXT? It's not a good term in terms of PR and marketing.

Aye, let's use "deadNXT".

thats worse...  how about frozeNXT?  slumberNXT? hiberNXT?

Great, there should be no problem holding everyone's funds with a trusted escrow right?

I would be happy to provide escrow for mr neons.

i second this motion.  anon136 is a hero member who has been here forever and has tons of posts.  You will gain instant credibility if you do this.  If you dont its considered that you are a scammer

I'm getting a 403 Forbidden error when trying to download the latest client:

wget http://www.nxtcrypto.org/nxt-client-0.5.0.zip

Is anyone else getting this?  Is there a place where I can download it?

why is everyone trying to DL its from the www site?  the announcement that JLP put in this thread linked to the forums site.  The WWW admin hasnt got around to loading it yet I guess.  though I believe it should work for the info site as well.  Im trying to get hold of the www admin to get it added to the www site

There is no way to be sure something is darkNXT, it can only be unconfirmed darkNXT. Some point down the road when 64bit keys are cracked, it won't be darkNXT anymore, just belongs to server farm that crack all the darkNXT.

James

exactly, which is why id prefer it kept out of circulation market cap figures until then.  And I used to be against your proposal to deny funding of darkNXT accounts but I dont think I am now.

and I guess I do agree with you on that the 0.5.1 release should prohibit those accounts with stolen funds from generating public keys.  We should do it now to try to flush out the thief because he knows if he doesnt xfer it now he'll never get it.  so lets all keep an eye on those accounts
847  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 05, 2014, 06:17:52 PM
All haven't had transactions out yet.  Doesn't mean the're necessarily darkNXT, though.

BTW, if you need to check, you can use a public node:
http://node1.nxtbase.com:7874/nxt?requestType=getAccountPublicKey&account=13643712185318669838

for example.
yes, everyone should keep that part I italicized in mind.  though preferably I wish a API were made that would give the total nxt in circulation as 1billion minus destroyed nxt minus darknxt and I wish coinmarketcap would use that figure

Looks like ET is an unlucky thief.....

no, it just means that those accounts havent paid/sent NXT yet.  ET (or his "stalker" as he calls "it) still has the passphrase to those accounts.

If the stolen NXT turn out to be darkNXT, then EpicThomas is just the worlds most unlucky hacker/thief, but if they are in activated accounts then Marshal Ricky has probably got more work to do: either setting the Federales on ET or tracking down some more badguys to round up.

And if the earlier thefts/incidents (ie from before ET set up the poisoned client) turn out to be darkNXT'ed and not stolen, we only have a bug to deal with, not an unknown exploit with someone siphoning account funds.

@rickyjames: good work, mate. Love the accent, btw.

Did I miss something?  where did we begin suspecting the stolen nxt (from when AFTER epicthomas released his trojan) was sent to dark accounts?  Its very easy to find out if an acct is dark:

http://localhost:7874/nxt?requestType=getAccountPublicKey&account=PUTACCT#HERE

and if a loong public key is returned then its not a dark account

Ricky can you. track down drexme as well?  He absconded with the nextcoin donation acct with 33k nxt in it

What the heck, I don't have enough time to do all the other stuff I gotta do, so sure, I'll take him on later next week.  One crusade at a time.   Grin

Really, I thought he handed the donation fund to Opticalc.  I know because he sent my 25k back to me.  Also, Drexme was extremely helpful with getting the client up and running for me and others, he seemed like a pretty honest person.

Heres the whole story:

Well what happened is that Drexme got all hot and heavy here on both forums for NXT, and in his enthusiasm he created the donation account and the giveaway thread.  I pretty much completely stayed out of all that and did other forums duties, and even gave 2500 of my own NXT to the donation account. (see 2500 sent to the donation account 7161646874450697154 on Dec 6)

So anyway, all of a sudden he decided to bail on us (for dogecoin, of all things, I believe he started the www.dogecoin.com site), and so I asked him for that donation accounts passphrase since he was leaving.  Then I just didnt have time to deal with the TONS of beggars etc since I was concentrating on my public nodes, admin duties in this forum, and working on my coinbase article submission, as well as trying to 100% keep up with this long thread on BCT.org.  Add to all that a girlfriend with constant sexual demands... So I just deleted the giveaway thread to get some relief and just let that donation account sit until I could figure out what to do with it.  Well, actually I did send some NXT back out to one of the donors who asked for it back.  Cant remember who it was .  It was a pretty big amount though, in proportion to the acct balance,, you can see it in there, a fairly large amount was sent out that was equal to a fairly large amount that was sent in, to the same accounts.  (minus fees)

Then Lynxx asked about it and I was like "great, I can just han off all these donation acct duties off on him" but I forgot about it with the rush of Christmas and all the other VPS stuff.  Then I remembered about it and checked the account and immediated posted here about drexme being a thief. (maybe a bit premature but I panicked b/c I had just promised lynxx tto hand it over to him but then realized it was an almost empty acct)

So Graviton (GCInc) and I exchanged some messages (I also attempted to contact Drexme here and on nextcoin but never heard from him) and G confirmed to me that the NXT account that cashed out the donation fund was Drexme's acct.  G did apparently get hold of him and relayed Drexme's story to me and it was something along the lines of "oh yeah I took the NXT to invest in some other stuff and I was gonna use the proceeds for another giveway next week" or some crap like that.  I can only guess that he figured due to me just letting it sit that we all forgot about the account and so he took it then came up with that lame story when G asked him.  But of course we cant prove his intentions.  The thing is, neither can he, and my position is that an honest person wouldnt have donee any of that without telling someone, especially since he DID send me a PM on BCT.org asking us to remove his admin/mod privileges.

So all in all, just very odd that someone who had been so helpful, all of a sudden did that.  As far as Im aware, Graviton hasnt heard anything else from Drexme either.

Interm Report On EpicThomas

However, Framewood claims a theft on December 26 while running a 0.4.4 client and this theft occurred BEFORE EpicThomas posted poisoned links on December 31. This is evidence for possibilities 3 or 4 above and this evidence should not be ignored. This evidence is trying to tell us something and I am not sure what it means.

In regard to scenario 4, it is important not to forget that the reports pointing to a potential bug are from situations where the actual owner was sending NXT, which magically appeared in a different recipient account from the one entered in the client. These situations are very different from the reports that led to the hacked version, where the owners just saw their NXT leave their account without initiating the transaction themselves.

In other words, evidence is pointing to two totally independent issues that just surfaced at the same time OR the hacker in scenario 3 will be getting an even better kick out of this post! As far as EpicThomas himself... it is really hard to say. Just don't be too hard on him regarding the situations that might not be related to his hacked client.

I will read your correspondence with him very carefully and if I catch anything that might point to his client NOT being responsible for EITHER of the two reported issues, I will let you know.

I repeat again: Add links to projects and profiles.

Jean-Luc Put me in but did not link to this article I wrote, which has somehow found its way onto forums and wikis all over the place, and in many cases translated to different languages.

for whatever reason, that link goes to the top of the page, the article is about 1/2 down

Ok people... take a break from all the advanced thoughts... and help us coding-challenged people for a sec.!    Cheesy

Can someone please point to the exact lines in the code where it is established that empty accounts cannot forge.

Is the Genesis account excluded from forging?  What is the forging conditions set for an account with negative balance?

Just wondering what happens if someone unlocks the Genesis account... in respect to the code under examination, of course.

thnx   Wink

Shocked if someone unllocks genesis account, could they send negative NXT to everone to reduce everyone's balance to zero?

UNTIE THE FEE FROM FIAT!!!

When decimal places come, I think fees should be done on a curve, starting with a base percentage of the NXT being transferred on the smallest amount possible to transfer and curving down in percentage as the transaction amount increases.  As far as the specific curve, I dont know.  I just dont like the fee being tied to any specific fiat at all.

To do this we would have to reserve the very last few decimal places for fees though.

So for example,
And I am by no means proposing use of these particular numbers (I am just using these particular ones for ease of explanation) dividing NXT down to 8 decimal places, the last 3 would only be used for fees, meaning the smallest amount of NXT that can be transferred is to 5 decimal places, or .00001.
So now, to transfer .00001 NXT (which is the smallest amount that could be transferred in this particular scheme) would cost a fee of, lets say 0.005%  So the total transferred in this case would be .00001005 and I would also suggest a curve to be used to decrease the fee as the amount to be transferred is increased.

This removes all ties to fiat, which I think should be the goal
856  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Nxt source code flaw reports on: January 04, 2014, 04:00:15 PM
So, the fee is constant in USD.  What do you think the fee in USD should be?

Stakeholders decide.

Agree ... but till than we have to survive.

Guys, why don't you change that terrible design on https://forums.nxtcrypto.org?

My eyes hurt, I am afraid I will get a headache if I look at it for too long.

Black background is rarely used on major public sites outside niches, like gaming.

Agreed. I was excited to find a new forum and barely made it through the registration process. Haven't read/posted there since the first visit.

Would really like an active NXT forum to participate in... as much as I like this thread, it's unwieldy and tough to keep up with.

Busy changin the lay out as we speak. please be patient.

Please tell us, when it's finished.

All,  I have changed the forums.nxtcrypto.org color scheme

If the forum had the same color scheme as the home page (nxtcrypto.org), that would be ideal.  The green and black is just a little to harsh.  Also, I tried the links and I don't get a different color.

odd, I tried it as a test user and it worked.  Those a 2 blue-ish schemes that sort of resemble the website.

ETA: nevermind it doesnt work annymore.  it looks like that long random number changes.  sorry guys, we'll try to get it fixed.
