881  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: pay-to-taproot multisig wallet? on: September 08, 2023, 04:01:43 PM
but I couldn't find a wallet that supports pay-to-taproot multisig, does anyone know any wallet support it?
Currently, there are two wallets that support P2TR and multi-sig but I am afraid none of them are going to be useful in this case cause these two come only with a subscription so it is going to cost a few hundred bucks a year.

Yesterday we were talking about how multisig transaction fees can be extremely low using P2TR

Yeah, you are right with P2TR (Pay to Taproot) multi-sig the size of the transaction will be almost half that of size P2WSH (Pay to Witness Script Hash) transactions but still it may take a while for the wallet developers to come up with stable version which supports P2TR multisig.
882  Economy / Gambling / Re: (duelbits.com) Is it possible for duelbit.com to retrieve my wrong deposit ? on: September 08, 2023, 10:58:14 AM

^ See?
Look at Roobet, this is how casinos treat their customer when it comes to trouble, we know it is your mistake but a casino should help you when it comes to this trouble if they value their customers. I appreciate the kind of attitude of the casino that showed above about roobet and which is how we test duelbits team resolving their customer problem. Let us see how they will handle this matter and if they will help OP.
Casinos have policies too, and since they mentioned any wrong deposit will end as a permanent loss on the deposit page itself then duelbits can't be blamed for this.

About Roobet they took this and treated it in another way but can't expect the same even from them again because they made it clear in that chat itself. But OP you can only hope you may recover funds if Duelbits wants too but there is nothing beyond that.

If that's the case then it's an expensive lesson, never make deposits in a hurry, and make sure the destination address, network, and whatever as many times as you can until you are sure that there is no mistake.
883  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Etoro wallet pending transaction 28days on: September 07, 2023, 07:10:42 PM
Hello, I’ve got a pending transaction that’s been stuck for 28 days

Etoro are no help at all, there are no tools to add fees to the transaction to push it through

If that's the case then you can use CPFP (Child-Pays-for-Parent) means you will bump the fee from the receiving end. But it is only possible if the receiving end is a noncustodial wallet, not an exchange address.

Etoro is known for delayed withdrawals so all you can do is wait.

bumping features so the best thing to do is to double spend it to another address. This time around use a higher transaction fee because
OP mentioned Etoro it's an exchange platform so how is it really possible for him to double spend the funds? Roll Eyes

884  Other / Meta / Re: cryptofrka's Merit Source application - gambling boards on: September 07, 2023, 03:43:54 PM
It's been a while, so I just thought, why not give it a bump?

Currently gambling board is filled with a lot of spam, to be honest, but if this is going to help it to be a better place then I will support it and I believe this will encourage the members to make better posts in the gambling section so their posts will be considered for merits.

The gambling sector is one of the spaces where the crypto's growth is remarkable so let's make it a better place for the community too.

885  Other / Meta / Re: Should some topics from "Bitcoin Wallet" board be moved to "Wallet software"? on: September 07, 2023, 01:05:28 PM
, in case they think they should move to Wallet software board all the topics from Bitcoin Wallet for Android board which do not related to Bitcoin Wallet for Android app.

Honestly, I didn't know that the child board belongs to one wallet named Bitcoin Wallet for all my years being on bitcointalk. Lips sealed

There should be a sticky in that child board to avoid this confusion in the future.

I wonder how many members are going to be stunned after seeing this thread. Cheesy
886  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: help with "bumpfee" at the comman line on: September 07, 2023, 10:27:05 AM
At the moment my immediate concern is to get the "bumpfee" to work, somehow
I can download and install any previous version of electrum (on another machine), which one do you think will be able do the bumpfee?
Any other ideas?

If I am not wrong I used the bump fee on my Android 4.4.5 with no issues, so if you can import the wallet or that address to an Android Electrum and click the transaction there you can see the bump fee at the bottom.

887  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Is it possible to run the Electrum wallet offline in such a manner? on: September 06, 2023, 04:34:17 PM
If it's this possible to open a Bitcoin wallet offline is it possible to also import your recovery seed into another crypto wallet in such an offline manner? Will it still work?

Yes as long as the wallet supports the recovery phrases.
888  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: help with "bumpfee" at the comman line on: September 06, 2023, 03:51:44 PM
The error you mentioned actually fixed in version 3.2.0, which was years back.

Check your Electrum version, if it's not ver 4.4.6 then update it to the latest version from their official site: https://electrum.org/#download

The updated version most likely will resolve this error.

889  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Seeking advice on keystore import to sparrow wallet on: September 06, 2023, 02:27:52 PM
inability to import an old keystore type electrum.dat file into Sparrow wallet.
Electrum wallet.dat files are different from qt wallet.dat files and you cannot use the Electrum wallet.dat file to import into another wallet (correct me if I am wrong).

Looking through previous releases of Electrum (1.8 - 1.9.8 ) which date from around the time (2013) i created the wallet, has shown the seed type in the wallet files to be of an 'old' type, shown as a 32 character alphanumeric string, and the 'seed version' to be 4 in all releases.

However, the wallet i have has a wildly different type of seed in the keystore section of the wallet file - with a varied set of strings joined by plus signs, with an equals sign at the end of it, in a much longer overall string.

The 'seed version' number is also different, being 18.

I'm interested if anyone here can advise as to why my seed and version are so different.

So you have two different seed phrases that entirely belong to different wallets but did you try to import the wallet using the seed alone?

Just forgot the Sparrow wallet, try importing the wallet in the Electrum itself.
890  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Is it possible to run the Electrum wallet offline in such a manner? on: September 06, 2023, 01:59:50 PM
question is if one want to keep the wallet offline this way is it possible?
Yes, it is possible and it has been called 'air-gapped or cold storage.'.

Here is one of my posts which briefs how to do it.

Download the latest version of Electrum from https://electrum.org/#download and then verify the signatures before installing it.

[GUIDE] How to Safely Download and Verify Electrum

Then copy the downloaded file to your air-gapped device and install it, then restore your wallet with your seeds "Standard Wallet -> I already have a seed".

Then go to  "Wallet -> Info" and get your "Master Public Key"

After this go to your device which is connected to the internet create the "watch-only" wallet (Standard Wallet -> "Use a Master Key)

By this method device will be never connected to the internet so you no need to worry about your seeds being exposed to malware or anything.

You may not see your addresses in your offline device, in that case, you need to manually create the address instead of connecting it to internet which definitely voids the purpose of keeping the wallet offline.
891  Economy / Economics / Re: Is space mining creating market differences and on-earth-inflation? on: September 06, 2023, 10:59:14 AM

Example #1 - Fiction - Planet X with huge amounts of gold

Example #2 - Real - Earth Moon with huge amounts of Helium 3 and 4

How is it taxed?

In both scenarios, the supply will be increased but the demand is going to be the same unless we are going to trade with other species apart from humans But for now, let's keep it realistic, the value of gold and helium will fall nothing else.

Taxation depends on where the mined gold is sold to.

Space/asteroid mining is still a speculative idea so we never know when it will be possible and also there is no necessary that the mined gold from outer space will be cheaper if we take the infrastructure, transportation and etc. into the account with the value of gold.
892  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: What happened if my pending Tx purged? on: September 05, 2023, 05:36:17 PM

Thanks charles! I try to rebroadcast my transaction using blockchain.com transaction broadcast and I encounter an error written below.

Code:
"Failed (Unset): Cannot parse transaction: Claimed value length too large: 32"

I use trustwallet to send my Bitcoin transaction btw.

You can try https://blockchair.com/broadcast or https://live.blockcypher.com/btc/pushtx/ and see if the error still shows but make sure that you are using raw transaction in hex format.

Or you can simply use Electrum to broadcast your TX.

Here is what you need to do,

Import your wallet to Electrum

Find the TX you want to rebroadcast in the history tab

Right-click = Details = there you can see an option to broadcast

893  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: What happened if my pending Tx purged? on: September 05, 2023, 05:13:58 PM

My question is how long does it take to purge my transaction when it falls on the range of purge and will my initial transaction fee will be refunded along with my original sent amount?

Each node has its own default mempool so as long as nodes accepted your transaction as valid it will still remain unconfirmed even if the fee is lower than the purging amount, let's assume 2 weeks is the most longer you may wait by the time most nodes will dropped your TX from the network unless you rebroadcast your transaction in the meantime.
894  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin mempool reaches 600K transactions on: September 05, 2023, 05:03:48 PM
The actual reason why the network is congested was posted by DdmrDdmr,

As per my Ordinals Dashboard (I’ve just updated it), block 806280 contains 7.292 Ordinals out of the 7.616 TX, occupying 91,6% of the block (see "Weight of Ordinals per Block" on the Dashboard). If you filter the said block on the "OrdinalsOrdinalTx List", you’ll see that they are all similar to this (*):
https://ordinals.com/inscription/d9d0920f37c1ba8688a43a4d01943132fe98319bb271e72c4011b7798caf3354i0

Ordinals are averaging between 9 and 12 sat/vB per day over the past week which have risen a fair share from the 6 to 7 sat/vB during august, and since they’ve been occupying and average of 40+% of the blocksize over the past few days (it had been in the 20%-30% range for some days previously), I figure this all sums up the current fees, still distant to those that were around some months ago, but still.

(*) BRC-20 json files. See: https://trustmachines.co/learn/what-is-brc-20-token-standard/

Do people think this high usage is good or bad for Bitcoin? Are there still many inscriptions being made on the network or is this more financial transactions?

High usage means more people are using but it's not the case, it's just the spam attack by the BRC-20 tokens which means its temporary and definitely affects the people by forcing them to pay more on the fee.

As I said it is a temporary attack, sooner or later we can expect the spam attack to vanish over time.

895  Other / Meta / Re: Any Admin Can Change It? on: September 05, 2023, 03:27:15 PM
If I am not wrong moderators can't change the user names even global mods so only admins can change it so you can send a message one more time to Cyrus or theymos. If still not considered then it's safe to assume that your request is more likely rejected and for the record only very few people succeeded with the name change requests in bitcointalk.

Alternate options:

You can create a new account with the name you wish and use it further (just my opinion though) because having multiple accounts in bitcointalk is allowed.
896  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Where to purchase bitcoin to avoid being a victim of fraud on: September 03, 2023, 03:16:27 PM
I waited for months to see how their site operated and asked regarding that in the forum as well Anyone is still using Paxful? and after that I gave it a try by myself and things have been going fine for over a month so all I am saying is the site seems to be the same as they used to be.
Just cause the exchange seems to you like they are working in the same way as they previously did doesn't mean the issues that made them shut down are behind them, i don't think the exchange should be recommended anymore, it may not be long before they shut down again, and this time it may be permanently.
FYI, I am not vouching for their longevity in their future, all I am just letting you know that Paxful seems same as how they used to be and I don't see the dispute made any difference in their business to or at least as far as in the currency I am dealing with.

Sure any exchange can shut down at any moment, we may not see it coming to remember FTX then overnight went to zero but the same thing goes for every centralized exchange, and which one is the next?

That is why we often see phrases such as "Not your keys not your coins".
But, I am not going to suggest OP use Paxful or any P2P for now because it is mostly filled with hacked accounts and funds received from stolen bank accounts and other illicit activities so it will take a while to understand how to choose the right trading partner in p2p exchanges or else they are putting themselves at the risk of their bank account being frozen.
Op wants to buy BTC, and the best place they can do that is on p2p exchanges like bisq, peachbitcoin, Agoradesk and others where they can just trade directly with the other peer.

Bisq is not really a recommended platform for someone to buy their first Bitcoin.

I never used the other exchanges so I don't know it is really smooth for a complete beginner like OP.
897  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin achievement on: September 02, 2023, 06:53:15 PM
My achievement, I drove a Camry but now I am driving a Lambo. Grin

Even though it seems like a made-up story just give him the benefit of the doubt guys

Now math time,

If he actually invested in 2017 the price was around $1000 lowest of 2017. So if he didn't sell it all the way until its ATH which is around $65K means he made $64K in returns and let's say he paid $4K as tax now he still had $60K but I am not sure in which part of the world it is enough to satisfy

Buying a house
Car (possible)
Married (possible)
Children (definitely possibly remember COVID lockdowns and increase in birthrate).

Conclusion: If he skipped the house part then there is some credibility to this story. Wink
898  Economy / Economics / Re: Are you risking investment in other things? on: September 02, 2023, 03:36:21 PM
I invested a chunk in real estate last year and really at the best offer even in one year the value is 2x but I am not going to compare it with Bitcoin and not going to sell that property as well cause I invested for long-term purposes maybe forever.

Gold - Not the best choice for investment at all in my opinion.

which leaves very few options Since it's a crypto forum we can't see any other responses beyond crypto but if possible diversification is always the best for long-term high-capital investors.

Whereas for one with small capital, there is no better time than now and in the next bull run it will surely hit over at least 100K means 400% returns from the current price.

899  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Mixing coins through exchanges on: September 02, 2023, 01:55:19 PM
It is possible to mix coins through exchange ?

If i deposit from my wallet BTC to the exchange and then withdraw them to another btc address, will my coins be tracked?

Mixing coins for privacy reasons and then using exchange is the worst idea but if you just want to break the connection between your address and coins then it's the cheapest way.

But the interesting fact is some exchanges used to mix the hacked coins using exchanges which is called chain-hopping, which involves mixing coins through stolen exchange accounts and mixing coins from BTC to Monero like privacy coins in such rapid ways before the authorities or exchanges realize something is happening but now AML procedures on centralized exchanges are tights it less likely to happen.

900  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Wallet RBF Feature on: September 01, 2023, 08:04:50 PM
I have been watching the mempool (https://mempool.space/) often now, but found that instead of decreasing fee, it is always on the rise.

The hike in the transaction fee at the particular time we are talking about is due to the sudden spike in Bitcoin's price which spiked from 26K to 27.5K which happened as a result of Grayscale wins lawsuit against the SEC means more people tried to move funds at that time than usual so it went from 6-7sat/vbyte to 15-20sat/vbyte.

As expected the hike short live now things are cooling off also the TX fees which I can see 9-11sat/vbyte at the moment.

Is there any particular time of the day, when the transaction fee is less ? and one can do the transactions at that time. Also, when more people are using bitcoin, then the mempool fee is high and less when few people are using the bitcoin network. Is it so ?
As told by the above users on the weekend you can expect lower fees but bitcoin market is 24/7 so we never know what happens at which time zone is gonna affect the market price or hash rate or whatever.

You don't have to keep an eye on the fees all the time, use this telegram bot https://t.me/BitcoinFeesAlert_bot which will notify you when the fee reaches the value you expected and commanded to alert you.

Here is an example

Code:
/alert 7

I will let you know when fees go below 7 sat/vbyte.
