901  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Promise contract for selling UK patent on: April 06, 2013, 08:28:04 AM
So you want $130,000 for a patent of an idea?

Can you even patent an idea?

What exactly are you selling other than text on a patent?

Whats to stop me from patenting a product that does this exact thing?

Pretty sure every time I read about a lawsuit its because company A is using company B's technology, there isn't technology here, only an idea?
902  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Adjusting your way of spending money on: April 06, 2013, 08:18:53 AM
Bitcoins got super hyper-inflated, how long was it stuck at $13? Then it would not be a big deal to pay ahead of time, you might end up spending $2 more, or $2 less, now its anywhere from $110 a day to $140 a day coins.

Eventually they will stabilize, and it wont be an issue anymore.
903  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Using paypal to prevent fraud? on: April 05, 2013, 10:50:07 PM
Paypal you have 90 days to get your money back, after 90 days you're screwed.

Hypothetically, if you buy today, they get shipped tomorrow, whats to stop them from mining it for 80 days?
904  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Some people need to learn how to use MtGox, they have more money than sense... on: April 05, 2013, 10:48:50 PM
BTC price went up that high 4 nights ago because of what was going on at btc-e.com
905  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I think I am going to withdraw my Bitcoin Kickstarter on: April 05, 2013, 10:45:07 PM
I think this is a really interesting idea and I actually started writing a bitcoin app for iOS until I got too busy. Basically I was porting the reference bitcoin app to Objective-C.

Here are my thoughts:

- I've downloaded pretty much ever bitcoin app on the iphone. They all do pretty much the same thing. They are mostly bitcoin tickers, some of which will should other kinds of useful charts. Not really very useful.

- What would really be interesting would be a bitcoin wallet. A way to store bitcoins on your phone and send and receive them and keep a simple address book. You'd have to implement a bit of the bitcoin protocol and keep a minimal part of the block chain on the phone. Perhaps just the blocks that are relevant to the coins you are sending or receiving. Eventually add in a QR code writer and reader so you can share your bitcoin address with other people easily.

The big problem with this is there is a good chance that Apple will not allow it. Read about the problems that Blockchain had with their "wallet" app. I think they were approved, then declined, then approved a small subset of their original app. Apple might be more open to bitcoin apps now.

I'm not sure it's really worth investing any money or time in a bitcoin app for iphone until apple shows that they are willing to allow the interesting ones.

Blockchain app works just fine, I accept payments with it regularly.
906  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Bitcoin Relationship Thread: G/F, Wife, Significant Other...etc... Tales... on: April 05, 2013, 07:56:21 AM
Everyone I tell bitcoins about they think I'm nuts, an idiot, stupid, ponzi, etc.

I got forced a friend to buy 1 coin at $40, he checks the charts every day.

Hell... I even have rich people I know try to get to jump aboard... they want nothing to do with it, they say the above ^^^ even after they see the price rise.
907  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: FREE Bitcoins for Doing NOTHING! on: April 05, 2013, 07:37:32 AM
careful guys, this site has been known to pay out selectively -- your video views sometimes never registetr. they claim it's some browser issue, but others who use the same API as them never seem to have these problems.

this is how they afford slightly higher payouts than other sites, they depend on people watching videos for free.

It could be the same as surveys, if you hit the same advertiser, you don't get paid unless you clear your cookies.
908  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Sophos Anti-Virus says my site is malicious on: April 05, 2013, 07:34:15 AM
Erm you're probably not seeing many posts because of the fact you're saying your site might be giving trojans..

Are you using free hosting? Anti viruses flag some hosts themself, so if your host is flagged for providing a lot of sites with viruses, they flag you too. I had the same issue with mcaffee a few years ago using a free host.
909  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if the government wants Bitcoin to succeed? on: April 05, 2013, 07:23:46 AM
Dollars are backed by gold, we sell dollars, governments want their money, they get our gold.
910  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: on average, how much HD space does bitcoin-qt consume per day on: April 05, 2013, 07:22:54 AM
Since 0.8 it became perfectly possible to run Bitcoin with its data dir in an USB disk, so I'm currently doing that to save space in my main disk (which is quite small).

Concerning your question, It's currently growing at no more than 250Kb per block, with ~144 blocks per day that should be at most ~36Mb of daily growth (it's actually less than that, not every block's hitting 250Kb). After May 15th, that growth rate might rise. It will take a hard-fork change for it to rise above 144Mb per day though, due to the 1Mb cap.

You can follow the total size here: http://blockchain.info/charts/blocks-size

144mb is way to much it already takes like 20 hours to download it. Soon we will all need 10TB hard drives for btc only <.<
And it take 4 months to download..
911  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Enjoy getting raided by the IRS for not reporting income and capital gains. on: April 05, 2013, 05:05:40 AM
Why does your friend assume you are not going to pay taxes? Consider yourself lucky to only pay 20% on any gain in value. The money you work your butt off for, that is income, likely costs you 30+%.

It sucks that it costs like 30% of your paycheck but what sucks more is the stress brought by overly complicated tax code.

If all 300 million people pay a simple tax of 1000 bucks a year to the US gubernment, they would have something like three hundred billion dollars to work with every year. Very simple tax and plenty of money for the government to run.

Alas, our government is not a lean, efficient machine.

Hundred of billion of dollars are lost every year to inefficient military research program, pointless wars, jails, porks, paperwork for social security, and enforcement cost for the US' byzantine tax code.

You know only 75% of the United States is 18+ right?
46% of working Americans don't pay any taxes or get refunds at the end of the year.

You can tax that way with the current system, a lot of people are barely making it, and the tax money at the end of the year is very helpful, let alone a husband and wife, with their 2 - 18yo just graduated kids owing 4k to the government.
912  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I think I am going to withdraw my Bitcoin Kickstarter on: April 05, 2013, 05:00:21 AM
It might be good to withdraw for now, bud.  Read up a bit more on objective-C and see if that can cut down the cost of making the app, yeah?

He doesn't need funds to make an app, he needs funds to host it for a year on everyone elses dime.
913  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin commerce may already be over $100 million per year. on: April 05, 2013, 04:59:09 AM
I read someone was waiting to get verified by gox, they were position 16000 something. I think the stats are off just a little.

I don't think the average person is spending $2200 or $1200 on anything bitcoin related, look around.. most BTC users are poor as hell, let alone spending $2200 on anything. Maybe in the next few months that number might be reasonable, because when they had $300 worth of coin, they now have $4000.

Satoshidice doesn't count as spending... Because if so I've spent around $10,000 loss..
And real spending on goods, maybe $200.

Is your statistics on bitcoins spent to current USD?
Because a few months back I bought a PS3 for $150/10BTC and now they're worth like $1200, that doesn't really count as spending $1200.
914  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Kickstarter has approved its first Bitcoin Project on: April 05, 2013, 04:52:29 AM

I'm not sure about the price of a fiber optic leased line in the US but here in the UK he would have to pay at least £500/month for a 100mb up and down connection.

300Up 65Down for $250 at Verizon:
The benefit of doing this would be you get free fast as hell internet that's a tax writeoff in full. That's "If" you need that.. His site has 1 thing on it, doubtful you need 300up or 65down anyway.

915  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Kickstarter has approved its first Bitcoin Project on: April 05, 2013, 04:12:03 AM
I am going to sleep on it tonight... and most likely in the morning withdraw my Kickstarter Project.

Clearly my project was shitty,  I thought I was trying to do the right thing,  but all I got was blamed for what I believed was trying to further the bitcoin community as a whole..

thanks for all the feedback..

Your website itself isn't shitty, if you're getting 70k hits daily your site is a gold mine.

Asking for 5700 so you don't have to pay for hosting yourself is a shitty idea.
Asking for $5600 for 12 months of hosting is terrible donation when you can get 56 months for what you need.

A project is needing the funding for the next handheld bitcoin trading platform, or debit card. A project isn't getting money so you don't pay anything but make all the money.

Like I said before, your adsense should be at least 1-4% clicks.. You need to fix positions of your ads, have 3 on there. There are DOZENS AND DOZENS of things you can do to make more profit with your site and not need funding.

For $5700 you might as well pay for business class internet 300mbs and buy your own server and run it from your house and have blazing fast internet for yourself.

Like I said, I'll buy it with 25% commission for life.

Just lost all of my Bitcoins on Satoshi:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SpihGKmYgY

That's the way she goes.

How much did you lose
About .256 Bitcoins. Hopefully I can recover from this.

I feel ya, I lost 1 bitcoin earlier on. I can't believe how some people can recover from losing 500 bitcoins (someone recently lost about that much I saw on the sdice statistics thread)

I've often wondered if many of the larger bets aren't just bots run by the site itself to attract attention. TX fee is a small price to pay to appear to inflate share prices and increase popularity! (No, I don't actually think this is going on, but I can't say it wouldn't cross people's mind if they were running it)

I suppose that would be a very nice way to run the business considering only 10% of the shares are owned by private investors.

Id bet more of if you have to many transactions coming in from the same address winning, you lose.

919  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Kickstarter has approved its first Bitcoin Project on: April 05, 2013, 12:40:55 AM

the total project cost is about 35 bitcoins  (roughly depending on the price)

There is no project.. You just want everyone to pay your server space so you make more money... In the end your site gives zero value to the community popular yes, a nice place to check prices, yes.. Cost to the community so you can make more profit.. no

What you should have done was started a business, and sold shares, and give dividends.

You need to look into fixing your google ads..

First.. Their positions suck ass.
Second you can put 3 on your page.
Third you have one that scrolls, which is a waste.
Fourth you should be getting at least 1%-3% click rate
At 70k hits a day you should be looking at 140+ a day in adsense revenue minimum.

Sell me your site, with a contract you wont re-create, and I'll give you cash + 25% commission for life.
920  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Enjoy getting raided by the IRS for not reporting income and capital gains. on: April 05, 2013, 12:29:40 AM
I think right now capital gains is only 20%
Tell them..

Who cares? I'll pay it.

Every $100 profit, you pay $20..

Who cares? Pay it.

Write off your electric, internet, home office space (rent), computers, websites etc.

that is long term cap gains (position held over 12 months).   less than that is full income tax.   And it is not 20%.   It is 20% plus 3.8% for the obamacare surtax.   But if you make less than a certain amount it will be LOWER.

Really? Wow, even better, you don't start paying taxes for a long shot, I think I didn't start paying taxes for 10.7k profit.
