961  Economy / Speculation / Re: How is it possible to squander $18 millions ? on: October 02, 2015, 09:55:58 PM
Holy shit, thanks mods for not moving this thread! Thanks OP for making this thread. Now I know that the fall of ETH last days is totally justified. I bought in some time ago in hope of buying this dip and selling higher but now I am sure that ETH will continue a slow downward spiral of death. And here's why:
  • Vitalik said that they have 2 700 000 ETH.
  • 1 ETH = 0.00283387 BTC at the moment.
  • Thus, 2700000 ETH = 7651.449 BTC.
They are going to dump all those ETH to keep their scam going. This means ETH will continue to fall lower and lower.

DON'T BUY ETH!

I'm insta selling my 650 ETH as we speak.

On the PoS vs. PoW question a spin-off version should do whatever the original does (the Ethereum project's stated plan is something like switch to PoS if it can be made to work, which it seems likely they will claim to be the case).

The purpose of the spin-off experiment is to test the hypothesis that starting with Bitcoin's allocation of wealth (as opposed to a brand new distribution/ledger) is a superior approach and will succeed in defeating the original in the market, not to make a new coin of whatever design you happen to think is best.

Anyway, it seems to be the case that no one is particularly interested in doing the work to actually implement it, so it looks like this idea is going nowhere at the moment.

ok that's a good point. it should be a complete clone.

Why not... But PoS will be better than PoW :/

I also support PoS. Don't make the same mistake Bitcoin made. Stakeholders and miners should be the same people because then consensus is much easier to achieve.

I think 240$ is more realistic with those kind of great news Cheesy

Thanks for the links.
But I have to ask my question again.
Who is spammer?
The person who holds a site with the engine for spamming blockchain or the person who reduces the UTXO set?

Your question is lame and the same discussion has already been held in the site's official discussion thread. Turns out that services such as cryptograffiti are actually healthy for the bitcoin network in many ways. If UTXOs were so bad, then an enemy to the bitcoin network would deliberately create many UTXOs to hurt the bitcoin network similarly to the stress testing which is evil. Your spam problem is an imaginary problem you created to go off topic.
967  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Who has been affected by stress test already? on: September 12, 2015, 09:02:18 PM
Do you have any problem with reading comprehension?
OP's website is just a specialized block explorer.
It publishes nothing to the blockchain
What is the "WRITE" tab on this site for?
Who is the spammer? The person who increases the number of utxo, or the person who decrease them?

For educational purposes, the write tab perfectly demonstrates how arbitrary data makes its way to the block chain. I don't encourage bloating the block chain but if one really has to do it they will do it one way or another.

For example, one could always go to this site:
http://hex.online-toolz.com/tools/text-hex-convertor.php

Type in 20 bytes of text, get the hex output and copy it to the 3rd input on this site:
http://gobittest.appspot.com/Address

And get the bitcoin address corresponding to their arbitrary data. They can then send bitcoins to that address and have their data saved in the block chain in a pruning-resistant way.

Good luck on getting CryptoGraffiti up again, it's a pretty interesting service.

The good news is that I have several fallback mechanisms in place so real-time block chain decoding has never stopped. I just lost one decoder instance which means I'm one step closer to going offline. I cannot restart the instance that went down because I have not set up a remote administration tool for the PC that runs it. It's very far from me for a couple of weeks so can't just go there and start the process.
969  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Who has been affected by stress test already? on: September 12, 2015, 12:57:09 PM
I cannot stop anyone from saving their messages in the block chain. That said, your sentence is simply wrong. So now I expect you to apologize.
You can use technique which do not increase the number of utxo.

You're barking at the wrong tree. Whatever I do or do not does not have any effect on the techniques people might use to encode custom data into the block chain. I did not start this. It's as if you are against Bitcoin having an intrinsic value which is the block chain and its integrity.
970  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Who has been affected by stress test already? on: September 12, 2015, 08:47:53 AM
So I would personally give a good spanking to the guys responsible for this.
Give me please.
(It is very interesting to talk about spam with the person who is owner of blockchain-spaming resource cryptograffiti.info)

CryptoGraffiti has never been about blockchain spamming, so you just want to deliberately put it into bad light, how lame of you. The main purpose of the service is to scan the block chain to discover the hidden messages. I cannot stop anyone from saving their messages in the block chain. That said, your sentence is simply wrong. So now I expect you to apologize.
971  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Who has been affected by stress test already? on: September 12, 2015, 07:31:53 AM
Only did 4 transactions yesterday and all went off without any problems and or delays.

Must say however, that I did bump up the transaction fees to almost double what I always used just to make sure. So only effect it had on me was increased cost but that was still minute.

Exactly. It doesn't affect making payemtns. It only disturbs applications that rely on bitcoin's block chain. In my case, I have to parse every single bitcoin transaction because any of them could potentially contain human readable text. So it pisses me off. All this stress test does is it disturbs 3rd party applications. It doesn't even affect the primary use case of bitcoin which is making payments. So I would personally give a good spanking to the guys responsible for this.
972  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Who has been affected by stress test already? on: September 12, 2015, 06:50:40 AM
I have. Tonight cryptograffiti.info lost one of its permanent decoders due to the flood of unconfirmed transactions. The maximum memory use limiter was triggered at 256 MiB of memory consumption which closed the program automatically. So those stress testers are already getting on my nerves and they are fucking with real life applications. Just wanted to say that as a developer I hate this stress testing thing since it just causes DOS. When Bitcoin naturally reaches so many TXs I would obviously develop means to overcome such memory shortages but since I'm developing from my free time as a hobby I wouldn't normally waste my time on it until it is really needed. Right now it is not really needed so it's like a teenage little brat is doing it for the sake of it to get on everyone's nerves.

An XT FAQ

It’s been a little over 10 days since the announcement of Bitcoin XT with BIP 101 support. The XT website has an FAQ but some questions keep popping up over and over, so I want to address them here too.

by Mike Hearn

https://medium.com/@octskyward/an-xt-faq-38e78aa32ff0

Pay attention or your thread could be locked, XT is a taboo (sorry for the OT).

Fuck this XT shit. The only thing I like about it is the bigger block sizes. I'm going to modify the source code myself and run my own version of bitcoin protocol. I'm going to make my node accept and forward all blocks no matter what their size is. That way my node will be compatible with the network no matter what the consensus chooses and that way I will be supporting higher block sizes. Win win.
976  Economy / Speculation / Re: Nights Watch by Afrikoin on: August 25, 2015, 03:54:14 PM
Bro, any idea why it's important step for bitcoin till mid-sept. ?

Go to google maps and search "September 23rd 2015"

It brought me to some place named Tomorrowland

probably has something to do with the new world order
977  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin down because of people panic buying precious metals on: August 24, 2015, 08:21:15 PM
Markets are irrational
If xt drama is bullshit....it still is drama.

True. Also, this question does not have a binary answer. We're probably both right.
978  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin down because of people panic buying precious metals on: August 24, 2015, 08:15:21 PM
Nah, don't think that's the case as Bitstamp isn't exactly a leading exchange anymore. It's all due to XT. Traders shit their pants by just thinking XT will take over.

More like traders capitalising on others shitting their pants. There'll always be something to trade be it XTGavinNSACoin or CoreCrippleBlockstreamCoin.

Then why don't I give a shit about XT? This XT drama is a false flag drama. It doesn't hurt bitcoin. You don't lose your coins because of it. It doesn't matter which direction bitcoin takes, in the end you still have your coins. Stop spreading this bullshit XT drama as a reason for the price drop. It's not.
979  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin down because of people panic buying precious metals on: August 24, 2015, 08:04:48 PM
I disagree. This move to me is about uncertainty in the block size issue going forward.

Come on, that uncertainty was out there long ago. Why would it suddenly reflect in prices just NOW?

I suspect the real reason of BTC taking the hit lately is due to people selling their coins to buy precious metals. I'm a bitcoin hoarder and I did exactly that and plan to do it again. Thus there ought to be other people like me doing the same thing. BTC might continue to fall.

I sold some BTC at 260$ to panic buy physical silver a couple of weeks ago. It's because of this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkELgi6EkNo

and also because silver is currently massively undervalued and probably at the bottom.
