Since the talks are about signing contract. We can remember about Giannis giving a clue to the Bucks management that he might transfer to another team if they won't win a chip this season. Well, the Bucks has answered with this;

He can't just transfer to another team.  He is locked in for 3 more years.

Who is playing the Timberwolfes tonight? I am surprised they basically have even odds facing the Lakers. Sure they lost their 3 preseason games but that doesn't really say anything. On paper they are definitely the better team and you want to start strong if you want to be a contender.
Maybe we can see some minutes from Bronny James if there is garbage time in the 4th quarter. Weeks ago I played a little bet on his season stats. I made a bet that he will make +82.5 points for the season. Also I just need over 5.5 3s from him for the season to win a bet. That doesn't seem too far fetched doesn't it?  Grin

I'm all over the Wolves tonight.  Everyone overbets the Lakers, yankees and cowboys in the beginning of the year.  Deep value going against them early on.

Bronny hitting one 3 pointer this year woukd shock me to be honest.  That under is gonna bang.  Also taking the under on his points.  I had it in the mid 70s though.  He is going to collect a lot of minutes in the g league.

I feel like this year has been the most brutal with injuries of the top players.  Maybe it's just recency bias but dam.  Season changes so quickly from one Sunday to the next

I voted for the Celtics to win the upcoming championship.  For me it's hard to see anyone else winning it as dominant as they have been and as far as I can tell, they are pretty much bringing back everyone?

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm still having some sadness that the Olympics are over already.  The men's basketball tournament was so ridiculously exciting and a handful of those players being legends that we will never get to see again.  For me, I liked it better than the regular season.

It was a great tourny but as a knicks fan this might be the best team they fielded since the 1990s so been waiting for the squad to get on the floor since the season ended.  Glad they play Boston game one as a little check on how they stack up.  October is so great for sports...
5  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 NBA Season on: October 22, 2024, 05:53:33 PM
Paul george amd embiid are already out lol.  Not a fan of injuries but I have a feeling this is going to be a common theme for the 76ers the next couple of years...

Huge start for the Knicks.  Get to roll out the new squad against the defending Champs.  What better time than game 1 to test out the squad.  Been waiting ever since June and it's back finally.  Go knicks.

No way it stays on the same trajectory as 2021.  It was a perfect storm of covid money, covid happening where people were online.  Amd meemcoins getting a surge.  Si.ce doge was pretty much the only one, everyone was buying doge.  Now there are millions of memecoins and the money is spread way too thin for it to pump like that.  I do expect it to hit like a dollar but $5 might be pushing it, unless bitcoin goes bananas

Okay asking for some market research.  I'm still in a survivor pool that started with 1800 people amd we are down to 31.  I have the bills but might want to save them.  2 other teams I'm looking at is the redskins...yeah the redskins.  And Cindy playing the browns.  All 3 very winnable games.  Which one would you guys take.  I'm leaning bills.  They are home against a team who runs out will Levi's under center lol.

Bills over Titans certainly seems like a lock, but you never know.  Funny enough @Hhampuz was in a survivor pool a few years back where the Bills had just been god awful for a bit of time, and he was asking "okay now who's a lock for this week, like no chance they'll lose".  It was an easy answer for me, I don't remember who they were playing but they were good enough where they had already penciled in a W.  Well, guess who won.  It set some sort of record for most unexpected loss in like the modern era or some shit like that.  So..ya never know lol Butt.

Washington should certainly be taking home the W but they are getting a bit better and better with Dalton under center opening up Dionte and Chubba to be legit.  Now Cincy should be a lock.  Burrow is balling out, Higgens is back and doin well..I think they are just as much a lock, despite a solid D.  Plus Ford probably out, though Chubb being back, gunna be on a limit count.

Yeah those were my other 2.  Bills play new England later in the year so was thinking of saving them.  Washington shoukd be a lock but I hate saying that with rookie quarterbacks so I'm staying away.  Cincy is a wildcard and they have burned a ton of people already.  Sucks because we are down to like 30 people and this is typically the story of my life...so close lol.  Probably going to lean on the bills.  They are home and will Levi's is a dumpster fire right now.  Thanks for the talk through.  If I last minute deviate I will report it here lol.

With gambling gaining awareness each day and the population of those gambling increasing it's calls for concern as many has fallen victim to this money sucking game that makes people not to save their money but loss it.
But let's take a critical look at this very sensitive matter called gambling has anyone really made it from gambling, is gambling worth it and if really anyone has made it through gambling can he/she proudly tell the younger ones that gambling is what going into.
Infact gambling has made many to go broke and live in poverty many has lost their life savings and even pension in gambling, I am of the view that gambling should be controlled by the government of each country and that there should be a maximum amount of money one should use in gambling.
While you are not wrong on your assessment that those that gamble suffer more losses than wins when they gamble and that only a minority of people can claim to have gained something out of it, I disagree with you on several points, we do not need governments trying to control our spending, as if you allow this then it would not be long until they try to control every single purchase that you do, also you are mistaken on thinking that gambling is the one thing that made those people broke, I can assure you that even if gambling was completely eradicated, those people would have lost their money doing something else, since it is their mentality and their lack of knowledge what it is at fault here.

Agreed, I don't think governments shoukd be able to tell you what you can and can't spend your money on.  You aremt hurting anybody and if you end up broke it's not because of gambling it's because of bad habits.  Most likely for these same people if it's not gambling then it will just be another vice possibly one that is more dangerous that will be the downfall of those people.  If you let governments tell you no for that then what next will they tell ypu, ypu can't do because "it's bad"

I just read a statistic that said the NBA MVP award hasn’t been won by an American born player in over 6 years and that seemed kind of wild to me. This would have been unheard to think about in the days of Michael Jordan. You can literally see the rest of the world catching up when it comes to basketball skills.
This is true.

I remember that it is because of these three - Jokic, Giannis and Embiid. 3 MVP awards for Jokic, 2 for Giannis and one for Joel, and this has started since 2019.

Maybe an American is going to be the next one but who could that be?

Has to be someone like ant.  Would be crazy if SGA won it this year with another international player from yet another differemt country.  If the projections go the way they are with wemby he might push in a couple of years yearly for it.  NBa is still dominated by US born players but the gap is closing every year.  Like the way baseball did in the MLB.

The Jets have traded for WR Davante Adams.

In a move everyone saw coming as Rodgers has become the de facto GM and Coach of the Jets, a trade for Davante Adams has happened, and while the chemistry should still be there, the Jets had to pay a conditional third round pick which could become a second round pick and they had to pick the whole contract from the Raiders, so it is obvious the Jets are going all-in for this season, which is understandable since we do not know for how long Rodgers can keep playing, but even then I am not so sure this move will help them that much, since the number of penalties yesterday shows a lack of discipline difficult to find on the NFL.

Yes this reunification on mr. immunized Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams is very good and this will create much excitement for the fans, however, the Jets should also improve their offensive line to protect Aaron Rodgers. This Rodgers and his wooden leg should join the Buccaneers and put a parrot on his shoulder heheheheh.

On the Vikings vs. the Lions, this is a divisional game and Lion will play very much more than their team's capabilities. This might be very hurtful for Sam Darnold's head and the Vikings' offensive line, I reckon.

The Lions loss of Hutchinson will be a huge blow.  Teams had to scheme entirely around hutch and now they don't have to.  Dude was an absolute beast.  While I don't think that the lions will be bad on defense it's definately going to take a step back.  Being in win now mode, I'd ask vegas about max Crosby or browns about miles Garrett.  It will take a ton to get them if they are on the block but for the Lions it would be well worth it.  And then next year when hutch comes back ypu have bookends.  I'd press on that.

@nutildah Damn man, that's some solid work!!!  I have to say, in all of my years of football and betting, which has been like 10 years or so since I've been really in to gambling, this has been the most difficult year for me hands down.  So many teams are equally shitty or equally up and down, so that's impressive.

KC @ SF, I'm picking the 9ers.  I don't care if I'm wrong, I'm still picking the 9ers.

Lyons @ Vikings is kind of 50/50.  There's really no spread there and the home team almost always favored by 3.  I'm leaning towards the Lyons on this one, they've been tough as nails this year.

The ones that give me pause are the ones with huge spreads, like the Titans @ Buffalo.  When the bills are snapping they'll put up 50 points in three quarters, but when they don't they struggle just to stay in the game.  Even with a bottom of the barrel team like the Titans.  Still, I think I'll take the Bills to cover, but 9 points is more than I'm comfortable with.

Both of those games are way too tough to call.  I know you are a 49ers fan so I'd go with them too.  The lions amd Vikings game should be absolutely awesome for a non fan of either of those teams. I can see those 2 teams along with the 49ers and dare I say the bucs/Falcons are the creme of the nfc.  The NFC East is a dumpster fire right now.  Unless something changes the winner out of the east gets smoked in the playoffs.

I'd say there is no question who's got the best division in football and I'm not sure it's even close.  I mean when the hell have the Lions, Vikings, Bears and Green Bay all been good in a single season.  I would have to lean Lions over Vikings and KC over SF.  I don't know how but Mahomes even after losing his best receiver and his TE not being all the effective this year, still undefeated.  If Jordan Mason doesn't play, that's a big loss to..  Some GREAT games tho.

Bears on bye which I like which means "7 hours of commercial free football starts...soon" lol.

Yeah the north is on fire.

Any chance that Grizzlies going to extend Yuki Kawamura's contract?

No clue but the kid was nice in the preseason.  Definately had Ja smiling.  He is small out there but it didn't matter he is silky smooth in the pain dishing it to the right guy at the right time.  Dude has a crazy good basketball iq from the small amount of time I watched him.  Maybe he has his own insanity run one day lol.  That was a fun time.  Was battling kobe at the garden.  Calling his own game winner against Toronto lol.  Hope the kid makes it.
13  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The trap of high volatility on: October 18, 2024, 10:17:52 PM
I also have some friends who report winning big amounts of money using pennies in their account, but I think it'd be too easy if that were the case, so i don't believe it as much. I never see them win live. I prefer to bet small amounts and not double my bets too much (when I bet).
This will actually have to do with preference, some others rather double their money than just randomly betting smaller amounts and hoping to get lucky some day to win huge sums but when it turns out that they keep loosing till they lose the huge sum at some point, if one gambles to double their funds, they literally tend to be careful because they put in huge sums and hope to double it so they make sure they have lesser game and odds of which looks more realistic and lesser of luck based hope than with that which you have to hope on luck have a huge pile and number of games all together.

Hard to believe some people who are claiming something via online. Also, most of these gamblers will only post if they win something, but when they are losing, they don't disclose it.

Just like traders who will show off when they make a profit and say their win rate is high even though there may be many losses that they suffer but never tell others.
Gamblers will be happier to show off their wins because it is more proud but I see in this forum there are also those who tell about their losses especially when it is not as predictions.

High volatility is not a trap but a choice for those who like risk, being able to win is fun but if it is only a small then the impact is normal for our balance so that high volatility is a choice for those who like to win big even though not often.

That's the truth.  You always here all these tales of people's wins, but they just bury all of the loses behind them.  I tend to tell stories of all of them.  Even the gut wrenching loses end up being some of the craziest stories and even funny once time has passed.  Not that I like losing but they seem to be much more dramatic than the wins.  In terms of stories I think people like hearing the loses more anyway in tes of conversation starters.

I am of the view that gambling should be controlled by the government of each country and that there should be a maximum amount of money one should use in gambling.

There are countries that prohibit their citizens from gambling, and I really admire this move. Gambling can lead people to poverty if they lack discipline and gamble excessively. While you might win one day, you will likely lose on another—that’s the cycle of gambling. Some wealthy individuals may view it as a leisure activity, but I don’t believe gambling is purely for fun, as losing money is never enjoyable.

How far do you go.  I mean sugar is one of the biggest killers out there.  Why don't they ban that it's literally a health risk.  I'm all for protecting citizens but people need to take self accountability as well.  Gamble what you can only be willing or able to lose amd if ypu can't stop yourself seek out help.  Whether it be professional, family, friends, etc.  People tend to blame the vice rather than looking inward.

How would you control how much someone can gamble and then how would they be locked out of gambling any further?  In the end it's up to people to control tueor own issues amd urges.  If it's legal to smoke cigarettes what's stopping someone from smoking 6 packs a day amd dieing an early death, nothing.  It's up to the person to moderate anything in life.  Gbling is no differemt.
16  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The trap of high volatility on: October 17, 2024, 11:24:02 PM
Think about it. If you were playing a different chance based game and had 10% chance to win 9 times your bet, it would mean 1 in every 10 waggers earns someone back a decent multiplier.
But if this be the case, how do casinos make profits -- coupled with the fact that someone could wager $3 per bet and after ten rounds, they cut a win with the least multiplier - which (let's assume) is $35?? Who's losing and who's winning more? It doesn't even have to be too much to one side as it'll quickly put them in the trash and outta the market.

Quote
But in slots you more often than not get nothing back. The large multipliers have to be fed somehow. So someone can get 4000 times their bet every once in 15 thousand bets or more. Many others have to lose in the process.
it doesn't even sound right to expect the larger multipliers coming in when you just got into the game... How does that even work? A casino has a pattern/terms of operations to work with - with which they cannot function without them.
Everything about gambling on a casino has always been adjusted gradually to their favour (like I said earlier) and anyone that doesn't understand these adjustments will fall a victim of their ignorance.

Well of course if the odds aremt in favor of the casino they will go bankrupt real quick.  It's understanding which games pay out better and others worse but you need to plan for entertainment value as well.  Slots are fun and sometimes it's not all about the money or profit.  But yeah if ypu think that you can tilt the odds in your favor against the house in these games you will find out you are sadly mistaken.
17  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 NBA Season on: October 17, 2024, 11:19:22 PM
The Grizzlies will probably have to be cautious with their stars giving how lucky they were last season with persistent injuries to their core players, although the signs have been really positive this preseason, but there is still a shadow of doubt hovering around how healthy the squad would be, meaning they likely would need all the hands they can get going forward.

Edey has slotted right into the team seamlessly and perfectly and the other new additions have been bright as well, I believe Kawamura would sure get his chances on the Grizzlies roster.

Don't get fooled by summer league and preseason.  The regular season is much different and the regulars will mostly get all the playing time.  Rookies mostly don't get a lot of time on the floor with a team that has high expectations of themselves.  Especially rookies like edey.  He is still slow and will get beat up down low with the lack of his athleticism.  He will be fine but he will be slow to get playing time I think.

I agree there will be drastic changes to minutes distribution from what we see in the Pre-season from these teams, however I'm particular about Memphis, they don't have the luxury of a true center except if they switch too Jaren Jackson Jr or Brandon Clarke, Clarke looks sharp already just returning from a long term absence himself, while Jaren Jackson is still struggling with an issue as well, which is why Edey I believe should get good playing minutes rather soon than later, but we'll see I guess.

Yeah I mean I get it, if there are open holes on the team then I can see edey getting pressed into playing time.  I'm not hating on the guy but he is a classic, destroy 18 year old kids in college and can't handle real men at center in the NBA.  The offers nothing on the outside so he will end up clogging the pain where the other centers can pack it in and leave him alone if he floats outside.  Yet not dominant enough to not habe to worry about playing outside.

It’s always a good time to buy, providing you have a low time preference & can hold for many years. Just look at the price 10 years ago vs the price now. We will see diminishing returns as time goes on but still far better than saving cash in a bank. Now is a terrible time to sell though, if you wanted to sell some then this time next year will be a much better idea. The bull run is early, still a long way to go.

You are on the money here.
The bull run should come somewhere in 2025, the start of it, or a bit further down the line. Green is upon us, gents. Let's not waste our opportunity.
 Roll Eyes

Unfortunately most people won't heed this advise.  When things are looking bleak or nothing really happening that's when the market starts to go up.  Ypu habe to learn to sit pat when things aremt looking good.  Warren buffet had the best saying in that "buy when people are fearful amd sell when people are greedy".  Essentially buy low sell high, amd even though it's nearing an all time high bitcoin should extend into 6 digits next year.
20  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Thoughts on Bitcoin's Current Market Position on: October 16, 2024, 11:48:04 PM
Bitcoin has been making headlines again recently, with its price fluctuating. As we all know, Bitcoin's market is highly volatile. What are your thoughts on its current position?

Do you think it's a good time to buy or sell?

Bitcoin has run sideways for awhile now not sure why anyone would ever sell in a market like this one unless you needed to for the fiat for some reason.  We haven't seen a big bull run yet so I'm hoping 2025 is the year we see things start getting better.  Everything has been holding pretty tight so I think it's more a buy opportunity right now.  If you want to stave off some risk cost average in periodically so if it does drop you don't blow all your buying power at these prices.
