61  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: "Jontay Porter receives lifetime ban from NBA for violating gambling rules" on: April 20, 2024, 04:36:02 PM
Thoughts in general?
These kind of Activity are deprecable and most of times also linked with criminale activities.
But in general have a strong impact to sport and gambling industry.
Without a serious sanction, even one so radical, people involved will never stop. I can't see other valid solution....

If proven to be true, then he deserved it 101%.

The problem with game fixing is that it involves a substantial amount of money. If you have at least the slightest power to gain a small advantage on the bets, then it completely ruins the gambling experience and its very essence.

In this example, Jontay Porter betted against his own team and he also has the power to at least influence and control the pacing of the game during his possession with the ball. Additionally, he also has sensitive information about his own team that if he tries to leak their plays, techniques, and system, the other team will gain a significant advantage in which betters would bet on the opposing team.

While it may be unfortunate for him, this is a good start in combatting any type of game fixing that can be possible. Again to reiterate, if you have the power to at least gain a slight advantage over your bets, then that is truly unacceptable and the punishment is fitting for him.
62  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading is not a lifetime job. on: April 20, 2024, 04:07:33 PM
There was an article that I read before that 97% of day traders lose their money on their first experience and the other 3% earns as much as a bank teller.

Though that may be the case, there are special exceptions to this rule. Remember that trading is all about experience. There are multiple factors in order to know the signs in which may give you an idea whether to invest in a certain cryptocurrency or not.

Going back to the discussion, trading is somehow a difficult job to be consistent with. There are others who found success in trading but there are lots of people who have experienced otherwise. At the end of the day, it really depends on how you view trading as a whole since saying that such is "not a lifetime job" invalidates the efforts of others who have made this their careers in their lives.

Lifetime job, in my opinion, presupposes a person’s self-identification with a specific type of activity. Defining onerself through one`s profession. I believe that modern realities go beyond this definition, because people have to expand their skills and master something new in order to remain in demand and competitive. A person can consider himself a trader. But this does not mean that he will not have to master other types of activities throughout his life.

I only understood the last sentence you said- anyway, I do agree that a person may venture into other types of jobs whatever they want to. Generally, people trade cryptocurrencies and they view it as a sideline to their main job. While I do agree to a certain extent to what OP said, still, there is a handful of people who found success in trading and saying what OP said invalidates this fact.
63  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: No gambling today due to bitcoin high transaction fee. on: April 20, 2024, 02:40:58 PM
If transaction fees are high, what are the alternatives that can be exercised to continue gambling using BTC?

I have read that using altcoins that are using lightning network may reduce tx fees but are there really alternatives to lower fees in BTC? It sucks to wait but I guess these are just some of the effects of the halving.

While majority is rejoicing for the 4th BTC halving, the negative effects of it are the high tx fees that only a few can afford. Imagine paying $50-$100 on a single transaction only to lose that money quickly in your gambling games. So can we also conclude that BTC halvings can have a negative effect on overall transactions (which necessarily includes gambling)?
64  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where best to enjoy this forum... on: April 20, 2024, 01:41:16 PM
As far as I know, there have been attempts on integrating this forum in a friendlier mobile application for ease of access into some services, which was discussed into this topic already:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5296215.0

Though I do agree that accessing the forum is easier in a desktop setup, I would love if some would develop it fully in a mobile application. Given that lots of people are using their mobile devices almost everywhere, having a designated application for this forum would not only be helpful but also convenient.

I read and write on the forum from a computer; a large screen and a comfortable keyboard are big pluses. By being able to see the entire text, we also have a greater ability to move around the forum comfortably, even with such a strict style that some people find boring.

I think that is the point of this post- OP is asking if there are any applications or attempts on creating/developing a "friendly mobile" application to access this forum. While I do agree that this forum was created primarily to cater to PC or laptop users, there is always that demand for a creation in mobile applications.
65  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can people still get the addictive nature through friendly games on: April 20, 2024, 01:11:25 PM
If this is indeed a friendly game then you must all be know that you are not fighting against each others instead you are just enjoying the game with bets or not.

But for me ? our friendly game requires no money but just to enjoy our day together that we have been doing for many years now at least once a month when we have time to consume.

This depends actually since friendly games are often competitive in nature even if without any money involved.

Remember, there are people who gamble not for profit but for the sake of entertainment and feeling that adrenaline rush on their bets. In the story that OP provided, friendly games are competitive in nature albeit you are against people who you know. Regardless of such nature, the natural instincts of some people would kick in prompting them to be competitive regardless of the people involved.

For example, Michael Jordan often held simple bets that involved huge risks and rewards at the same time. Even if you may consider his bets "friendly" among his teammates, the risks are still huge.
66  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tropicana, 3rd oldest casino in Vegas, shutting down after 67 years on: April 20, 2024, 11:25:55 AM
reading through the article it seems that the casino is tied to a lot of notable history that has happened in Las Vegas. quite a shame that it is closing now.

I can't help but wonder if they sold it and if so how much, I mean, I assume the casino still brings in money despite customer traffic on their establishment having slowed down compared to the past due to the newer and more modern casino/resort that has been built throughout the years, so the offer to buy it must have been big enough that they decided finally sell the casino.

This is very surprising considering that the casino itself is located in Vegas, which is the gambling capital of the world. Even if it may not be as famous as the other gambling establishments, its geographical and physical location are worth it and profitable.

I guess that the shift to online gambling has taken a massive toll to most physical gambling establishments given that the traction that they gain is far lesser compared before the pandemic hit. But I also think that these gambling establishments must be ready for change- change in a way that they must implement other services in order to keep up with the changes happening in the world.

With all things considered, I still find it unfortunate that gambling establishments have been closing down. Recently, the Atlantic City Casino owned by Trump has shut down also. Even with the saying that the house always wins, that is not always the case.
67  Economy / Speculation / Re: another ATH , 71k and still climbing. on: April 20, 2024, 04:43:52 AM
Personally I still hold it. Even though currently the price of bitcoin tends to fall, I am sure that in the next opportunity the price of bitcoin will reach a much higher ATH than before. My target is not just $75k but $100k, and I am determined to continue hold until the price of bitcoin reaches $100k.
You are definitely coming up with good ideas. During low BTC prices your holding will help you achieve your goals but you need to be more cautious. We will see a lot of ATHs this year - I think you should aim higher in the meantime as you may not get the opportunity to accumulate BTC at the current price. So I will tell you that you should make your target $100k fixed only then you will get more success.

Its not easy as we all know that during the bear market we should hold, but there is always some profitability in doing so, if you can wait to see the asset of investment you have is within your capacity and then hodl, you will see the reward in due time because the market will definitely rise and pump back as usual when the time reach, but many would have loose patience and hope from waiting till this same time comes and they have the same opportunity they have always waited for.

Just a question, what are your thoughts on the BTC halving? When do we expect its explosive price increase in the market?

From my experience, the price of BTC suddenly increases during the halving but there have been speculations that JP Morgan is trying to tell everyone NOT to invest into BTC. Not sure on how this would affect its price but I am just happy that I got to experience the halving by actually preparing for it- bought $300 worth of fiat and converted it to BTC.

I submit that the price of BTC would reach an ATH perhaps 2-5 weeks from now. My only basis for this is its price history and the past halving on how it exploded on the market which prompted FOMOs to purchase BTCs.
68  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Where would you prefer to watch your favorite team? on: April 19, 2024, 08:18:46 PM
This depends on the season and the type of gameplay of my favorite team.

For example, if the NBA team is just on regular season, then I would like to watch it either at my home or at the bar surrounded with my friends who also watch NBA. But if the season is the playoffs, then I would love to watch it also at my home AND at the bar discussing it with other basketball enthusiasts to see their reaction about the said game.

From my past experiences, I usually watch in public places during the playoffs as you can observe the reaction of each and every person during the whole game. You can see their moans or joyful outcries depending on the team that won!

As a social person, I would love to discuss the games with other people as well to know their thoughts and their opinions on how it went wrong/correct during the sequence of moves played by the teams.
69  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is merit all about? on: April 19, 2024, 05:09:57 PM
Greeting everyone. I was newly introduced into the system by a friend who made me to have so much interest in the system with the zeal and the passion to learn and gain adequate experience on the system but one of the major problem I'm having now is that I'm not well clarify of what merit entails and as such I will be very grateful if any good minded person can kindly throw more light on that to enable me understand in details and also benefit from the system.

Merits are like "reactions" to your post in which people may give to your given comment. These so-called reactions have an impact on your forum rank as the more reactions that you receive, the more likelihood that your forum rank would be upgraded. The only difference is that, there is a limited amount of reactions where a person may give, unlike in Facebook where you could like/react on every post that you get.

In this forum, these reactions are called merits in which people would give your thread/comment if they find it useful or helpful in some way. The more you have merits, you would be eligible to rank-up, like what theymos said in this THREAD:

Quote
RankRequired activityRequired merit
Brand new00
Newbie10
Jr Member301
Member6010
Full Member120100
Sr. Member240250
Hero Member480500
LegendaryRandom in the range 775-10301000

Now, what does it mean if you have a higher rank in this forum? Well, there are signature campaigns that you may participate depending on your forum ranking and these campaigns pay you weekly in BTC. The higher your rank is, the higher the pay that you would receive at the end of every week.

Be reminded, however, that merits should not be your MAIN goal in this forum. Use it as an inspiration in creating several posts/replies and the by-product of your efforts would be receiving merits in the process.

70  Economy / Economics / Re: The collapse of central banks...Inevitable? on: April 19, 2024, 04:46:54 PM
If the global economy continues to deteriorate, do you think central banks will collapse? If that happens, it will be the end of Fiat for good. In such a scenario, do you think Bitcoin will become the currency of the world?

What's your opinion? Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Smiley

I think banks have their respective systems in order to prevent this financial global phenomenon from happening.

While there may be countries in which their financials have collapsed which resulted to a super massive inflation, hegemonic and first-world countries have policies in order to at least balance out inflation.

Just to add, I think there is a misconception about inflation. In fact, inflation is good but it must be controlled depending on the market of each country (e.g. Philippines must at least have 2-4% inflation rate).

Lastly, I do NOT think that fiat will collapse any time soon given that all countries use this as their medium of currency. Even if we are shifting to digital payments, fiat will still remain to be the main medium of exchange even in the far future.
71  Economy / Gambling / Re: 1xBet Biggest Scam and Violation of Terms on: April 19, 2024, 03:09:59 PM
There's possibility that this is another made up story by a newbie (OP) because he doesn't provide any evidence in the post. He provided  link that doesn't work (not working on my side, I don't know about others). Well, if we base it on his last post, it seems to end on a positive post. Perhaps he has already received his money by now. If he hasn't received it yet, he'll likely keep posting in this thread. Hopefully OP will come back soon to update us on what happened with his money. lol
What exactly would he achieve by faking this story? Personally, I don't think that he is lying though I do find it weird that he effectively abandoned the forum after mentioning that he was contacted by their team.

I still don't think he will ever see his money again frankly speaking though I might be wrong. Let's see if he will ever return to update his situation in this thread.

1xBet has a negative reputation in this forum due to various reports from its users where it failed to reward their profit from their games.

Additionally, there were also some threads reporting 1xBet in declining to give them what is due. The failure of their customer support system to provide as to any kind of explanation on why it withheld their funds is just one of those things that destroyed its reputation.

Heck, 1xBet even created a signature campaign in this forum where it failed to pay its users. Also, they accept users, regardless of their trust history, to promote their campaign and majority of them were negatively tagged by our forum users for contributing to spam, etc.

Lastly, there has been a recent DISCUSSION where there were lots of similarities between 1xBit and 1xBet (e.g. they had the same customer service representatives, etc.) but they claimed to be unrelated at all.

With all things considered, I do think that people should avoid 1xBet for the time being until it clears its reputation in this forum.

72  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Neymar being addicted to online poker on: April 19, 2024, 08:46:39 AM
Therefore he's seen utilizing his time very recklessly, prioritizing playing the right cards over living these once in a lifetime precious moments the best he can. And if a multimillionaire can get addicted in this way, anyone can. Consider this before spending too much of your precious time gambling. Put some limits and enjoy responsibly!

This is the problem with people who have a huge budget with gambling- they tend to be reckless with their expenditures to the point that it can blindly lead them to financial distraught if done excessively.

I find it somehow unfortunate that he seems to gamble during a special occasion, which is his daughter's birthday. I mean, he can gamble at any time that he wants but I just hope he could have chosen a different time to play.

Again, we have seen multiple posts on how gambling addiction can change a persons life in an instant and this is just one of the living proof on how it can slowly cripple away being rational. I just hope that Neymar's addiction be lessened as we do not want to see another life being wasted away due to excessive addiction from gambling.
73  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Physical Merchant na pwedeng mag cashout ng Bitcoin directly sa hard cash on: April 18, 2024, 05:03:48 PM
From my experience, I do use GCash to convert my BTCs to PHP.

For example, nakalagay mismo sa coins.ph yung mga BTCs ko tapos cinoconvert ko siya into fiat, then I send it to my GCash account. Normally, I do this in small transactions para hindi masyado ma-flag yung account ko for any suspicious amounts that can be negatively tagged. Also, you can use p2p ng Binance if you have an account para direct na mismong sa GCash papasok yung pera mo.

Naalala ko lang: back in 2017-2018, may option dati na pwede mong i-withdraw yung BTC mo directly sa security bank and they will provide you a pin for you to input sa kanilang ATMs. Pero after a year, they discontinued yung operations nito kasi baka na-tag sila ng government about this.

Nakakamiss lang noon medyo bago pa ang lahat sa crypto kasi hindi pa sila ganun kahigpit with their regulations and restrictions, lalo na sa coins.ph.
74  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Countdown to the 4th Bitcoin halving.. what should we expect? on: April 18, 2024, 03:51:24 PM
I have been a member of this forum since 2017 and I have experienced two (2) halvings. I really regretted in the past on not investing and taking advantage of such opportunity.

By basing it solely on the price history of BTC, you would observe that the price skyrockets whenever the halving happens. With this, I am somehow confident that the price would at least increase within the next few days or weeks after the halving. Since I know better, I am relatively ready with some of my BTCs that I HODLed and I also want to maximize this opportunity to avoid any regrets like what happened in the past.

At the end of the day, BTC is an investment- while there are no guarantees even if we based it on its price history, the fact that the halving may soon happen means this would be an opportunity for me that I will definitely not miss to exercise.
75  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Ways to Appreciate Your Favorite Casino Beyond Playing on: April 18, 2024, 03:34:23 PM
You are someone who has had a great time at a casino for some years. In a poll you will  give them a 9/10 or 10/10 satisfaction rating. Your reason for this rating is not just about winning or losing but also about things like user experience, game selection, ease of transactions, customer service, security, promotions, and reputation. Casinos usually have ways to thank loyal customers, like VIP programs, special bonuses for anniversaries, and exclusive game access. As a satisfied customer what can you do to show your appreciation for the casino beyond just playing?

I think the single most greatest thing that you can show your appreciation for a casino is leaving a genuine feedback about their services and offers.

If you play in an online platform which has a designated ANN thread in this forum and you appreciated the services that they offered, then leaving a legitimate and genuine feedback about their platform can be the best thing that you can do. Not only does your review help with giving traction to the said online gambling website but it also helps new users in deciding whether to pick that platform or not.

With lots of fake websites that are aiming to scam people, a positive review is only one of the few things that help us separate a real casino vs a fake one.

-snip
liking and sharing their posts on social is a good way to do it but reccomending it to people looking for an online casino to try is the best way to do it. other than that I don't think there's really any other way to support the casino outside of just playing.

I also agree with the method you have mentioned.

At its core, it is all about sharing and leaving a positive feedback about the said casino. Not only do you help in spreading the word about its legitimacy but you also contribute on its overall aspect and services.
76  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Ever Projected how to spend gambling profits while the game has not played yet? on: April 18, 2024, 01:57:26 PM
As a matter of fact, he was nowhere to be found all through the weekend and could not even take his calls because he felt messed up of himself for the false promises.
While time passes by, you can imagine how he narrated the stories and felt remorseful of being a d!ck head as the game failed him as predicted.

This story of yours OP is what most gamblers experience especially if they have obligations to fulfil to their families.

Imagine, you have this promise that you must commit but you instead relied on something that is absolutely risky to answer for such promise and obligation. This is also the reason on why gamblers should not have any kind of moral and financial responsibility if they want to gamble in the first place. If you cannot provide food on the table to your families since you rely on gambling as your funds, then might as well quit and assume responsibility on it.

As long as you are comfortable with the result and the outcome will not make you feel disappointed I don't see anything wrong with it, I sometimes do that, and it motivates me to do and try to have good bets.

The most important thing is you know the fact that there's no guarantee on your bet and it could go either way you can laugh at your choice and those plans you have while starting to bet.

Acceptance in every bet is important you will not become disappointed it's ok to plan what you will do with your winning as long as you prioritize your enjoyment more than your profit.

I think you are somehow missing the point that OP said.

His friend promised them something in which the promise was contingent on him winning on his bets and gamble. Imagine if this were a different scenario- you have kids and you have a natural obligation to provide them with their basic needs. But in order to provide them with these, your funds must come from winning a gambling game which is VERY outrageous to begin with.
77  Local / Pilipinas / Re: BITCOIN HALVING - YOUR PREPARATION on: April 17, 2024, 05:20:32 PM
In the next 5 days halving na ni Bitcoin, meaning mababawasan na ang supply sa market.
Anong paghahanda ang ginawa mo para dito? At ano sa tingin mo ang kalalabasan ng Halving?

If you're going to base it on the price history ng BTC, you will na yung trend niya talaga is for its price to skyrocket and mag babalance out siya in the following weeks.

I have lots of regrets ever since I started last 2017 kasi I really failed to take advantage of the past halvings. Now that I know better, siguro masasabi ko na mas prepared ako ng onti and nakapag tabi ako ng BTCs just in case tumaas price nito sa market.

Quote
Personally, wala ako nagawa during this halving and hinde ako nakapaghold. Due to financial problem ang nagawa ko lang is sundan ang market trend without investing, and sinabe ko nalang sa sarili ko na babawi nalang ako next halving and alam ko na sa susunod na bear market hinde dapat ako matakot maginvest kase patuloy paren aangat ang Bitcoin.

I think hindi pa huli for you to take advantage of the halving.

Be reminded kabayan na ang halving will continue in the next few days. Even if hindi ka nakapag tabi, you can still take advantage of it by purchasing BTCs in small portions. For example, if may 200-400 pesos ka na spare sa GCash, you can purchase cryptocurrency (BTC) there and HODL mo lang siya for the time being.
78  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: After losing the money in gambling, what is your strategy on: April 17, 2024, 01:37:15 PM
After losing money in gambling, there are various steps in which a gambler must take depending on the circumstances provided, such as:

  • Stop and call it a day;
  • Continue to gamble if the remaining funds are within the allocated budget;
  • Try a different game provided in the gambling platform;
  • Take a break and gamble again within a few minutes;
  • Re-evaluate the situation and decide afterwards.

Naturally, the if a person loses in a gambling, the initial reaction is to recover their losses by gambling again. This kind of strategy may snowball depending on your luck and if your budget allows you to do so. The list provided is not exclusive as there are still other ways in which a person may do after losing but the most important factor there is having a designated budget in gambling.

If you have no allocated budget for the day, then you run the risk of continuously gambling non-stop. Always re-evaluate the situation and be rational when it comes to spending. As a rule of thumb, do not chase away your losses especially if you go beyond your budget for the day.
79  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can Bitcoin be a full time career for investors? on: April 17, 2024, 11:48:52 AM
So i wish to ask if Bitcoin has the potential that investors can rely on as full time career considering the inevitable uncertainty that are involve in Bitcoin investment such as difficult in price prediction and the volatile nature of the system which may pose some kind of difficulty to have adequate  Knowledge and better understanding of the system.

I think it may be relatively difficult if you rely solely on BTC as your full-time career, unless you are trading with several cryptocurrencies + stocks.

Treat BTC as a form of investment- you should not rely on it solely as your main income because it is risky. Even if its price history may give you an understanding on its potential, relying solely on investments that can go into different directions can be potentially dangerous if you do not have any backup.

If you truly want to use BTC as your full time career, then you should diversify your investments. As the saying goes, do not put all of your eggs in one basket- diversify your portfolio and explore all the different kinds of investment platforms available (e.g. stocks, bank interests, crypto, etc.).
80  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: An interesting story and experience of a gambler on: April 17, 2024, 07:48:33 AM
That person is too deep on his gambling activities to the point that it also affected his mental judgement and psychological reasoning. His impulsiveness has taken over which tends to interfere with his decision-making skills. That explains on why he is mostly purchasing stuff that he does not need due to the mental stress that gambling has affected him.

This kind of story is very unfortunate- it really highlights the effect of gambling and on how it can snowball into something bigger and problematic if that person does not seek any kind of professional help/support from anyone.

It was better that he did some purchases and give his mom some money and debt paid. Because if it he didn't do and bought all of those stuff then for sure that the money will just be going back to the casino again.
So, aside from being addicted gambler, he's also a reckless spendthrift that have bought stuff that he is not using.

I do agree that the silver lining with this tory is that he was able to satisfy his debt and he was also able to give something to his mother. Unfortunately, such cannot justify that he bought useless stuff that would most likely cost him more in the future.

Again, this is just one of the thousand stories about a person suffering from gambling addiction. I just hope that this serves as a reminder to everyone that if you are going to gamble, make sure to have an allocated budget and you stick to it to avoid any chasing of losses.
