My story
As a newbie and first-time investor and holder of Bitcoin, I made a decision that has led me to a stage of financial satisfaction within a short time, just by risking the right amount and at the right time.
I bought Bitcoin when the price was low at about $22,000 price and i went all in with the whole capital at my disposal, as a newbie i was sceptical, but also i was ready to take that risk.
Luckily for me, Bitcoin is now at 52 thousand dollars, and i feel so excited to see the number of profits that i have accumulated within the shortest time which no other investment can give such profits in such a time frame, so I am glad.
Congratulations for experiencing the joy of investing in BTC, OP! With the high volatility of BTC, lots of investors take this opportunity to invest either in short or long-term depending on the gains that they will be receiving on its current price. We have limitations here, and we can only tell what is good and what is right, and your addicted friend will still be the one to decide for his/her own benefit. Also you have to set boundaries because your friend might get offended if you tell him to stop gambling, if that friend is still listening to you then better to suggest to seek professional help because you know to yourself that you are not capable to help him, especially on dealing with his emotions psychologically.

I've took noticed that alot of users are always in a hurry to reply a post expecially newbies, I know it is a good strategies to always try to make your reply to be among the first or at least fifth position, because it would make it easier for other users to see and to read it.
I think it is not about replying fast replies but it is about the quality of the replies that they do. Sure, there may be some connection between writing fast equates to poorer quality in replies but that is not always the case. There are other forum users who can reply relatively quickly compared to your average poster but what they contribute/reply is far more superior in quality compared to the ones who reply on threads in a slower fashion. So anytime you see a post take your time to understand the concept before making any reply, for instance you came across a post about security and privacy and more. If you don't have much Idea about it don't jump in and quickly reply take your time read the post after reading do some research for better clarity and understanding.
I humbly submit that some newbies who post read only the title and they get their information from it. There are others whose replies are so irrelevant that it has nothing to do with the subject. While it may be frustrating, at the end of the day, they are the ones who are going to suffer especially if they have the goal of ranking up. |

It's always going to be about making money and those "bets" just for fun are those who are just trying out gambling. I think that's the reason for people trying it but avid gamblers probably want to profit and not gamble just for fun. There's definitely intention IMO.
I agree with your statement. I also think that the title is misleading as the thread focuses more on the risks that are associated with gambling using their respective funds. Anyway going back to the topic, it really depends on the perspective of the person on how he/she views gambling as an activity or as a money-making venture. Naturally, people who view it as a form of entertainment has more control over their emotions as they are not compelled to make any profit. Regardless of the situation, whether they win or they lose, what matters is that gambling satisfies their urge to feel the adrenaline. On the other hand, if a person sees gambling in order to make extra income, then they are necessarily compelled to win. There is this pressure for them to make a profit which somehow landslides to a series of bets until they incur a profit. |

I find this thread really funny given the examples you provided, OP.
There was a time where I had this friend who continues to gamble despite the enormous loss that he incurred. Even if we were already advising and convincing him to stop, he kept rationalizing that he wants to gamble since THE LORD TOLD HIM TO DO SO.
We lost our minds when he said that and we definitely stopped convincing him to stop. We knew that from that moment, he was suffering from something that is beyond addiction- he was losing his mind and he started exhibiting abnormal responses to normal environmental situations.
In retrospect, I am in the position that these people who rationalize and think of ways just to continue gambling are the ones who are suffering mentally. They definitely do need professional help and guidance in order to at least mitigate the damage that gambling addiction caused them.

I see so many people that come around here sharing how much bitcoin they own...don't. Just like any of your finances such as your portfolio or how much your annual salary is..it's no one's business but your own. Being transparent about these things can be harmful to you in a multitude of ways.
There are actually some benefits if you share your actual experiences in earning BTC. But I do agree with your statement that sharing specifically the amount that you have in BTC can be dangerous for your safety and security. Even if we are somehow anonymous in this forum, there may be ways where people could track your location, thereby compromising your safety in the process. As an advisor this is something I tell my clients all the time. Your financial info is private and should always remain that way. I hate these new social media trends where people walk up to strangers on the street and ask things like "how much do you pay in rent" or "how much money do you make a year"...ignore them!
I do get it that some people share their earnings as a form of inspiration to others in order to attract more people in investing in cryptocurrencies. I mean, everyone should be aware that if a person randomly messages you telling their "secret sauce" to get rich, that should already spark a red flag for you. Assuming that he DOES have the secret to be rich, then why share it in the first place? I am a firm believer that there is nothing free in this world- everything has a fair equivalent of something. Again, just to reiterate, there is no such thing as free things. If someone approaches you telling to invest into a certain project with very high yield, then avoid it completely. If someone messages you for an investment, be doubtful and research about it. |

I would not say that this saved my life but it completely changed on how I was my spending habits during college.
Growing up with a family of 7 with a single dad was not easy. It can be a little bit of difficult if you are the eldest and you have 5 siblings who are younger than you. Basically, I am the eldest of the family and I have 6 siblings in which every single of them was going to elementary and high school. While watching TV with my kid, I've watched various advertisements of gambling nature (let's say for example, Rummy123, RummyCircle, A23 Rummy, etc.)
These are all specifically Indian ads, but I'm sure you may have seen various gambling advertisements, some banners at boundaries when cricket is ongoing, even in any other sport. How would a kid ignore those things, they might just come and ask you about what is it. Till when can we lie to them? Don't you think that the frequency of such ads must be less in order to let the kids not get trapped into gambling and don't do it at such a small age?
This is interesting. I haven't seen any gambling advertisements being showed in our local television here in the Philippines. I guess that our government strictly mandated that all forms of advertisement with regard to gambling should be only limited to online ads as hosting it on television can greatly influence the young kids potentially exposing them to this risk. Even with strict parental guidance while watching television with our children, there are some instances where they can become curious on their own and explore this by themselves. So for safety, I guess gambling ads should NOT exist on television. Everyone know about that, but the reality there are still a lot young people become gambler or end up in other addictions. That's because the parents don't have much time to teach and control their children, most parents choose to work because they think money is the most important, so they leave their children to babysitters.
Babysitters don't care with your children, all they do is fulfill their job desk, that's all. They won't give more effort or special treatment like their' own children.
I agree that it is the obligation of parents to supervise our children for the betterment of their welfare. Again, I think we should have a different perception when we approach gambling as a whole. Sure, there is that opportunity for a person to win money in gambling but the stakes are just too high and the risks are easy to experience. Gambling should be viewed as a form of entertainment primarily and making profit as secondary. If we approach gambling in this way, this would help balance and control our emotions as our priority is different and we would not feel compelled to make a profit every time we gamble. Gambling is primarily about luck. So whether you're emotional or not, it doesn't have any bearing as to the random results of the games. If you are emotional, it doesn't necessarily follow that you would be less lucky. In the same manner that if you are in full control of your emotions, it also doesn't automatically follow that you would be lucky.
Emotions would, however, play a big part in financial management. But, again, it is false to claim that "the more you control your emotions will cause you to win more in the gambling site."

I think it is fairly obvious that if a person succumbs to any kind of addiction, failure and losses would follow due to its nature. Gambling addiction is just one of those types of addiction wherein it can be absolutely destructive given that it involves some monetary aspect as it plays with your emotions as it is a game of chance. Losses would definitely incur long term due to the presence of house edge. If a player fails to realize this and he continues gambling long-term with profit in mind, statistically speaking, he would incur more losses as he progresses.

Technically, it IS your money but it was given to you for free by someone or by your parents which somehow eliminates the need for you to win. On the other hand, if you bet using the money that you have earned for yourself, then you are risking what you can afford to lose. Your money then it is your problem. However, many people would say even if you have jobs but you are staking higher it also means you are gambling with what you can not afford to lose. Moreover it's true and I have to dauth but I have a feeling that ones someone that have a good paying job is staking more than what he can afford to lose, there is no different between addiction there.

I don`t know what made you think that taking a break from gambling would lead to you making errors that you did in the past but I`m here to tell you that it`s not true - you don`t have to gamble every day or continuously before you`ll be able to avoid some mistakes.
Sometimes you just need to make the mistake once and as soon as you come across a similar thing past instinct will kick in and you should be able to avoid making it twice - not by consistent gambling. Besides, gambling is not a skill you`re trying to learn so why be consistent?

If you had loss money before and you are currently in a situation where it may happen again, then always listen to your gut. Remember, it is definitely better to NOT bet at all and your bet should've won THAN betting money by not listening to your gut and lost that money in the process.
