201  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Stake.com - unethical practices on limitting losing players on: March 06, 2024, 10:24:32 PM

Customer service didn't help, just told me to bet less and brushed me off. Is this how they treat someone who's been loyal and lost over $220k in 4 years? I think it's important you all know how they treat players here. If you start winning, they might just cut you off.

Take care.

This was the part that actually caught my attention. In gambling, I don't think there is anything like customer loyalty; a casino will never bend their policy to make sure that a gambler wins. It doesn't really matter how long you have been loyal and gambling in the casino, and it doesn't also matter how much you have lost for the years you have been gambling in the casino. Perhaps there are also other customers that may have lost even a higher amount and have used the casino for more years than you but yet receive the same treatment as you.

This is seriously alarming- what sells the casino is not the gambling games on itself but the customer service experience that they provide. If they treat their customers like nothing, then why is Stake still considered one of the best casinos out there?

In the past week, I have noticed several threads about Stake regarding encountering some issues either related to payment; or to limiting the accounts of its users. This should really spark a red flag on its users given on how they operate and on how they treat its customers.

Quote
Since you were already told by customer support to reduce your bet, I suggest you do so and still stake on your game, or you can make any further inquiries on the stake thread there https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2072589.0

I do suggest that OP should consider looking for an alternative at this point. Sure, he should try reaching out on its ANN thread in this forum but still, he should not have experience this service to the point that he will contact and message on its board in this forum.

There are hundreds of online gambling platforms that provide a better experience compared to Stake. If I may suggest, then I guess this is the time that you should explore different options now, OP.
202  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Indirect victims of gambling addiction on: March 06, 2024, 10:10:42 PM
Of course, there are many indirect victims of gambling addiction. Can you add more?

You actually summed up almost the effects of gambling to the collaterals that ultimately affect the immediate family members whenever a person is addicted to the said act. I guess another sector of people who are indirect victims of gambling are your co-workers.

Once a person gets addicted to gambling, your relationship with your colleagues and friends will be prejudiced greatly given that you will be asking for loans to anyone just to satisfy this urge.

The reason on why I said colleagues is because this was a personal experience to me before. I had this high school friend who was once rich during our youth and he would treat everyone with almost anything. Suddenly during my college years, he would message our friends asking for loans and cash. Then I soon discovered that he suffered this massive gambling debt by borrowing cash from Chinese loan lords that are already threatening against his own life.
203  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is AI going to affect gambling in any way ? on: March 06, 2024, 12:46:52 PM
AI has impacted almost all online businesses to major extent. Do you feel that there will be major impact of AI technology on online gambling industry as well ?

I do believe that the impact of AI would be more as a supportive tool rather than as a main component that plays gambling for us.

The prominence Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been widely used in different fields as a tool to lessen the work of most people. Robotics and AIs have been also associated with each other in which they can work hand-in-hand to efficiently maximize its potential to some businesses. Although AI has been used mainly by some companies and businesses, I believe that it may not completely replace gambling and its users.

Gambling is a personal act whereby the odds are being played by the gamblers. Yes, AI may affect gamblers if the latter use the former as a tool to help them compile information that may effectively predict and weigh some outcomes. But relying on AI completely will not be as effective given the nature of gambling as a risky venture.
204  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading Or Investing which one is better to focus on right now? on: March 02, 2024, 05:49:37 PM
I want to know what guys do. Are some of you trading the market regardless or some of you are like me, investing and observing the market

Why not both? No one is stopping you from doing both at the same time as you can reap the rewards by maximizing all the possible opportunities for you to earn BTC in the process.

If you want a relatively simpler way to earn some BTCs, then you may invest and HODL your BTCs by taking advantage of the upcoming bull run and fork that will happen in a few weeks from now.

If you have prior experience to trading cryptocurrencies, then you may also opt to trade other cryptos in the process. Be reminded, however, that trading is an extremely risky venture which requires a great deal of knowledge in order to at least have an advantage over others. There are many trades who have incurred losses than profits due to their lack of experience and knowledge after delving on the said act

Personally, as someone who has no experience to trading, I would definitely choose to invest and HODL my BTCs. In this way, at least, I would be able to take advantage of the time by selling my cryptos as soon as I see that I have profited from my initial investment.
205  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is it time now to use Premium VPN when playing in the casino? on: March 02, 2024, 04:45:20 PM

If you did nothing with your 2nd account, I think the casino will not mind about it. No violation like the 2 accounts exploited some bonuses, there is nothing to worry about.

But using VPN may instead result in something else as these casinos can change policies about using VPNs. It may only be the reason why your account gets blocked. However, if you did something and you are yet not blocked, the casino hasn't looked into your account yet until probably you win a jackpot which they will discover something.

I agree with your statement.

When money is involved in a certain act, you must be extremely careful with everything that you do. You must also secure that what you are doing is genuinely acceptable within the terms prescribed on the gambling's TOS. Even if a VPN can be argued as "safe", there is nothing that can guarantee this given that casinos have the authority to withhold your funds if they feel like you have violated any of their terms even if it is somehow vague and prejudicial against you.

On the cases that OP provided, I have a feeling that the person who got banned from using two (2) accounts on the same IP address has a strong case against Stake. I feel like they have been automatically flagged, thereby having an automated banned from their account.
206  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What does BTC mean to you? on: March 02, 2024, 03:32:19 PM
Bitcoin to me, is freedom. This means that I have the liberty to use my funds to purchase things without any interference from third parties that check all of my transactions.

On a personal note, bitcoin to me is an opportunity- something that can be maximized on especially if you consider the financial status of a person. In my case, I live in a third-world country where there are limited opportunities when it comes to finances and jobs. Bitcoin enabled me to look beyond the box and explore endless possibilities financially. Without BTC, I would not experience situations that made me better as a person and as an investor.

I myself want to say that the purest and the original is just one BTC. and this is extraordinary for those who understand. However, the fact out there is that Bitcoin is an expensive and high-risk investment and I am very sure that anyone there if asked to invest in BTC will think about it even though BTC is already familiar to their ears.

Yes. It is true and has been proven that almost everyone understands digital currency on average, but not everyone feels comfortable investing with the level of market uncertainty that looks very bubbly. Now. If we think about this condition, it is very understandable that many people prefer to continue using other, safer investment options, even though these options do not offer the same profit potential as people who already understand and understand the ins and outs of investing with BTC.

While BTC may be seen as an investment, I see it rather as an opportunity and as a means of income due to the acts that are involved. For example, the creation of bitcoin lead to multiple signature campaigns that changed my life completely on how I use my finances.

I just hope that people should know and exercise every opportunity to discover the existence of cryptocurrencies. While it may be a stretch for me, but I consider it as my gateway in order to alleviate myself from my financial situation.
207  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Losing at gambling on: March 02, 2024, 02:27:45 PM
When everything's going well, it's cool. But sometimes (often?) money problems lead to divorce. Suppose your spouse/husband gambles a lot, his or her loss/profit ratio is acceptable (so it's fine), but then one day he or she has bet it all and lost it all. You've got nothing left (and no savings either). What's your reaction? Has this ever happened to you?

This has never happened to me and I wish that everyone would not experience this very unfortunate scenario.

Assuming, however, that I were in that kind of position where my partner would bet everything and subsequently lost it all, I would definitely consider divorce as an option. However, this would not be the automatic response to this kind of situation as it would also depend on several factors.

If my partner is a compulsive gambler and she would bet our family savings without any regard to her responsibilities to the family, then I would definitely consider divorce. But if my partner has the responsibility of maintaining the financials despite his gambling tendencies to the point that she can control her emotions, then I would support her in any way that I could.

The non-negotiable factor here would be if my partner CANNOT meet her responsibilities and obligations to the family to the point that she would sacrifice and prejudice our savings to satisfy such urges.
208  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help me out starting out my bitcoin and musical journey on: March 02, 2024, 01:20:08 PM
Hello, OP!

I think you are just starting your BTC journey and you somehow demand too much without fully understanding the nature of the problem.

Like what others have pointed out, purchasing a MacBook for $800 is relatively expensive when you can run a bitcoin core and node on a desktop or even a Windows laptop that costs way less. Additionally, before you also fully invest such money, you should understand and know these things. It seems to me that you do not fully understand these concepts very well for you to invest that amount of money on it.

I highly suggest that before you pull the trigger, understand the basics and fundamentals first. Learn through reading, watching, and even engaging in the community so you could get a better grasp on what you are dealing with.

Lastly, while it is not prohibited, it somehow implies that you are asking for donations, which is prohibited in this forum. Even if you try to phrase it in a different statement, the essence still implies that you are asking for money.

Best of luck to your journey, OP.
209  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Stake; one couple two accounts illegal? on: March 02, 2024, 11:24:24 AM
We asked the support and they gave us a vague explanation. We thought it was an algorithm bug.

Could you mind showing what the message was all about? Even if it was a vague explanation, can you kindly provide any screenshot of the said conversation so we could have an interpretation on what the support was telling?

Quote
I told him we could try to make a new account under my name and see if it worked that way and indeed we could bet again. We bet nba games and won everything again. The same thing happened right away; we couldn’t bet anything.
But this time, even the cash out option was blocked.

According to the TOS of Stake, it stated that:

Quote
Only one Stake Account per player is allowed. Should you attempt or successfully open more than one Stake Account, under YOUR OWN NAME OR UNDER ANY OTHER NAME.....

I believe that your account was flagged due to a suspicion that you created it under any other name which was probably located under the same IP address of your house. But if there is one thing that they most likely missed, it is that you created this together with your wife which was her account in the first place.

Just to add another question, when you created that new account, were you able to submit KYC documents to prove that you are not the same person? If you submitted the KYC documents of your wife (HUSBAND** EDIT), I really think that they made a genuine mistake here.
210  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which of these betting Statements Do you Agree or Disagree With? on: March 02, 2024, 08:54:51 AM
These are the general guidelines that everyone should be aware about every time they want to engage in a gambling activity. These guidelines provide a glimpse and a fundamental background which can introduce you to the gambling environment.

Having these guidelines memorized and faithfully followed would most likely help you in avoiding any excess expenditure on your part as a gambler. Though that may be the case, the only way to fully understand these is for you to personally try it for yourself.

all your statements are correct and I support all the statements you wrote.
but there are still many definitions that need to be explained here regarding sports betting, for example, a bettor can only take 10% of his earnings and the amount is only $20.
for me, with a small budget, it would be better to try my luck by betting with a parlay bet, choosing several teams from each match to get odds of at least @5 then betting $1-$2 to get a decent win but still with the same bet amount as I did do now pick 5 games to get odds @5 or more and bet small amounts to try to get consistent wins.

in this way we can get better results but I am not giving any advice here just sharing the story and if a bettor is more comfortable with single bets and betting small amounts that is not a problem but for me betting small amounts on single bets a little unsatisfying and more enjoyable when winning on parlay bets which provide a different sensation.

Like what you mentioned, these statements are just the general guidelines that a gambler must follow before they engage into this activity. Obviously, this does not explain the specifics of each gambling activity (e.g. sports betting techniques, etc.) but a framework that everyone should adhere to.
211  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I have to hold on tight on: March 01, 2024, 11:59:22 PM
I ask for tips from you, how can I be strong enough to resist, and not be tempted by prices that have already increased?

and your explanation will be very much appreciated, and
hopefully this is useful for all of us, especially for beginners like me...

Here are some tips that may be helpful for your investment period:

  • Set realistic goals and parameters;
  • Have a designated fund for your investments;
  • Be mindful about the market situation; and
  • Avoid being too greedy by HODLing for long.

Now, you must first set realistic goals and parameters. This means that you should know when to cash out your investment especially that the bull run is about to happen. Sure, we may have goals that we want to maximize our profits but this can be dangerous especially if we wait for too long as this can miss the opportunity longer.

Having a separate fund and wallet for your investments can be beneficial as this can track most of your investments. If you have a fund specifically for your investments, then you may be able to track them better compared if you lump them all in a single wallet.

At the end of the day, you should have a threshold on how much you are both willing to earn/lose at the same time. Just avoid being too greedy and cash out your investments as soon as if accumulates profit. Good luck, OP!
212  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is it ethical to break your gambling rules on: March 01, 2024, 11:02:11 PM
.....

So this led me to ask the general public if I am gambling too much, although this excess didn't affect my finances in any way since I still managed to come out with little winning at the end of the day and at some level, my losses are still below 30 percent of my set out money.

I think it depends on what the established rules are and how it would affect you as a whole.

In your case OP, I think avoiding gambling for three (3) consecutive weeks is a fantastic start of knowing and having responsibility. Sure, you have a personal rule wherein you should gamble for like every week but since you have broken this rule and this affected you more in a POSITIVE way, then I do not think that it is unethical.

The situation would be different and my answer would be otherwise if you broke your rule then it affected you in a NEGATIVE manner. For example, if you have a rule where you should only allocate a certain percentage of your income as your gambling fund but you broke this rule by betting more, then this would be unethical.

With the coming bull run, I think perfect opportunity sa atin ito, especially for the forum members na kasali sa signature campaigns, to HOLD our BTCs para ma-take advantage natin yung price sa market. I mean, HODL lang natin ito sa ating mga respective wallets/exchanges and maximize natin yung potential na profit na pwede nating makuha after the bull run.
Given na din na malapit na ang fork, perfect time talaga ngayon to invest and to purchase some BTCs.

Just to ask a question, saan kayo bumibili ng BTC ngayon?

214  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The shocking rate of women interested in gambling. on: March 01, 2024, 04:31:30 PM
I don't understand how it became shocking and surprising to see the growing number of women who were interested in gambling. Gambling is for everyone regardless of gender. In the first place, women are not prohibited to be involved in gambling. It's just that women are not used to being involved in gambling but generation changes as we progress.

Gambling can be considered as a form of entertainment whether online gambling or physical gambling. When we say entertainment, it also includes social community and everyone is welcome to join. Let's normalize already that in today's gambling, more women will be involved, not to compete with the number of men but that's how social interaction works.

I agree with your statement.

Gambling is an act whereby anyone can participate. Class, sex, or race are irrelevant factors that determine the amount of people that are going to try and participate in the said games. I guess the biggest factor on why most people have participated more compared to the past are the advertisements being scattered around all social media platforms and the opportunity that the pandemic brough in shifting activities mostly online.

Yes, educate children is a must for parents so they will stay away from gambling, especially if their country prohibit gambling. With good educations and always takes care their children, parents will make sure that they are doing their best for their children.

Besides children, gambling now reach women and attract them to visit a gambling site. As we know that online gambling is easily to access, women, children, men are playing gambling, even if their country doesn't allow gambling. That can increase the number of addicted people to gambling if no education from the government and family. The government can show ads how dangerous gambling for someone with the affect that the other people around a gambler can get.
For children this is not so sufficient, because often you need to deposit money in some way, and this can be done for a teenager but not for a child.

For women, gambling has always been just as accessible as for men, but I can judge by my social circle, and I see that for women it’s no more than buying a lottery, that’s where all the excitement ends for them, so I can conclude that for women, gambling is not as important as for men, women will spend money on beauty salons, it is a more enjoyable activity for them.

Parents have the vital role of creating an environment that avoids all sorts of influences. They have the responsibility and degree of control to at least minimize exposure of their children to any vices especially during the crucial years of their peak curiosity. If children are curious especially if left unsupervised, then they have the tendency to visit and attempt activities that are meant for adults, and this includes gambling as well.
215  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is Satoshi Nakamoto's networth ever being rated? on: March 01, 2024, 03:42:05 PM
Just to reiterate what most have already mentioned, it can be challenging to know the exact net worth of Satoshi given that his identity is completely unknown. No one really knows who or what he/she is- he may be a part of an organization; or even just a single person; or a group of people.

While it may be possible to get a glimpse on the amount of BTCs he has given that you can check the addresses of his wallet and the transactions that he made, I do think it is futile to do so.

Satoshi Nakamoto, up until this day, is one of the greatest mysteries that we have yet to discover. Everyone is curious about his identity- perhaps he intentionally did concealed his whereabouts for his safety, etc.
216  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: your perception about gambling on: March 01, 2024, 02:28:39 PM
however, my question here now is : is gambling restricted to some certain kind of individuals or class?  or is there any stratification when it comes to playing gambling ?please your opinions here here will actually quench my curiosity.

I do not think that there are any gambling restrictions placed on adults.

The only restrictions that I know are more on the morality side of things (e.g. underage gamblers, religion, etc.) but if you are asking about restrictions, I doubt so.

Remember that gambling is a business and their aim is to accumulate profit. If they were to implement multiple restrictions as to a certain kind of class, then they are limiting their player base and their potential customers from their establishment. Ultimately, such restriction would mean a profit loss on their part which is I believe that gambling establishments have NO restrictions on adults.

No gambling is not restricted to some individuals or classes of people, anyone is allowed to gamble. Of course there are some age related restrictions but other than that I don't think there's any kind of restriction. If a country's law doesn't allow gambling and the country takes strict action against casinos then in such places it might be not possible to gamble, but many people even from such countries use VPNs to gamble on online casino sites. No stratification at all when it comes to gambling, like I said above everyone is allowed to gamble.
The restrictions on gambling has always been on age and not class or even financial capabilities, there are restrictions based on countries too which I don't fail to recognize too. Theses restirctions are usually placed for reasons sometimes to protect the individuals but then these people most times don't get to understand and want to just gamble especially so they can make money and not even to have fun. Every other person who's allowed to gamble can gamble but still with the caution of gambling responsibly.

Gambling should be done with care even if you are gambling responsibly then you wouldn't be bothered about been irresponsible or loosing money .

Yup I definitely agree with you.

I doubt that there exist some kind of prejudice that will limit a specific kind of class/race from entering a gambling establishment given that the latter is a business. If there exist some kind of restrictions outside of this, ultimately, the gambling establishment would suffer in the long run.
217  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Mom won 50,000$ in Lottery on: March 01, 2024, 12:12:09 PM
Congratulations to her. $50000 is not a small amount of money. If I win this kind of money, I will quit gambling and just focus on business. It is not that I use gambling as business. I play games with small amount of money and I only go for casinos games and sport betting with small odds and not determine to win big amount like this. But it is exciting to read something like this. Congratulations to her again.

Yes definitely! $5000 will go a long way especially that I live in a third-world country where resources are relatively expensive due to the minimum wage laws of our country.

$50,000 can give you a decent condominium unit which can definitely alleviate majority of your expenses. Given that the minimum wage in the country is $10-$12/day, $50,000 can somehow be a life-changing moment to some people that can push them away from poverty.

Everyone wants to win like this. But not everyone will be lucky in gambling. Those who give up gambling cannot expect to win from gambling. A gambler must try. If he tries his best, he may or may not get lucky at some point. The person who won such a big win never thought that he would win from gambling. He tried and continued gambling. It's not a bad idea to try to get lucky if you can keep the amount you can lose in the bet within control. He will definitely get a chance to live a better life. The incident you shared was even more exciting. $5000 may have been a good amount for the lucky winner but it's anyone's guess what level of joy she must have gone to when she found out that she had won not $5000 but $50000.

Only a few people can reach this kind of luck even if everyone hopes that they may soon experience this. This is what makes gambling dangerous- it gives you hope of seeing the other side (assuming that you've won) but it may be seemingly impossible, yet simple.
218  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is it possible to inherit a gambling debt? on: March 01, 2024, 04:55:52 AM
The high rate of gamblers who take loan for gambling purposes is quite alarming, and most of them are fathers to kids. Most of them don't end up taking care of their debt before passing. What happens to the funds, when the lender comes for his money? It's quite a tough one for a person who isn't a gambler to inherit a trouble from a gambling dad. Such things also increase the anger of the society on gamblers, because the addicts are, also, good at extending their problem gambling to other close relatives. Could it be talked through in the law court?

This depends on the law of the country but I will answer it based here in the Philippines.

If you borrow money to a creditor, you as a debtor have an obligation to pay the corresponding debt within the terms agreed upon on the contract. If you pail to settle your obligation upon the stipulated date, with a demand coming from your creditor, then you put yourself into a risk of having a case filed against you (collection of a sum of money). If you still failed to pay despite the court order, then the creditor may order the sheriff to garnish your personal property as payment for your corresponding debt. Assuming that you have no properties left but you have children, the debt will NOT be passed around and the creditor suffers the ultimate injury.

Again, this is highly situational and dependent on the laws of the country that you are staying on. Generally, a debt cannot be transferred nor inherited since the legal personality of a person is extinguished upon his death and there are other ways in order to recover such debt (like the example that I have given above).
219  Other / Off-topic / Re: Does having children have an influence on gambling habits? on: February 29, 2024, 11:59:35 PM
Yes definitely! Being a parent can have a huge impact on all of your habits especially that you are obligated to meet your responsibilities in the welfare of your children. In addition, there are tons of sacrifices that a parent must do in order to give the best of the care for their children.

For example, if you are addicted to gambling and you allocate a specific percentage of your income to it, then you must sacrifice and avoid (if possible) all throughout gambling since that allocation must be catered to your children. Not to mention, you must not influence your children to any environment that may affect their general welfare.

Gambling is a high responsibility in itself and for any family person most especially if you are the financial supplier and all the family members depend on you, it then means that you have to reduce your gambling activities not even only in the amount you use to gamble, but also in your time management,  because combining gambling with family won't be an easy thing unless you choose to deliberately neglect one to the other.

Also when you have a limited bankroll you then need to calculate your reserves based on your expenses and if you discover that involving gambling in your daily expenses will drain you, since you are no longer single but have a family to fend for, it very advisable to quiet gambling or gamble with a limited amount of money that will not affect your family upkeep.

Having a family with kids will indeed change your life's choices especially when it comes to your gambling lifestyle. You are hypocrite if you will say to others that nothing change when you become a family man or woman. You have other priorities now and you are not only considering yourself in this journey but also other people who happen to be your loved ones.

I definitely agree with you.

If OP thinks that having children will not change anything with their gambling habits then it is best for him to avoid kids for the meantime. Being a parent carries a huge responsibility that you must fulfill to the best of your ability.
220  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Support, do not criticize. on: February 29, 2024, 03:45:38 PM
If you criticize and mock them, they may nurse in the heart the mindset that gambling is impossible to stop, or even stop trying to stop gambling because you have already made them feel like they can never do it.

There is a technique called "negative reinforcement" where you apply a punishment for people who perform badly on their respective duties. On the other hand, there is also what we call "positive reinforcement" where we reward people when they perform an activity that is commendable.

In the given scenario that you have provided OP, it is better if we apply positive reinforcement wherein we give commendations and rewards for people who show progress in dealing with their addiction in gambling. Instead of humiliating or punishing them for their behavior due to relapses, it is definitely better if we continue to encourage and show support to their progress.

At the end of the day, if you show your genuine support and care for these people who struggle in combating addiction, then the chances of them getting better would be higher.
