281  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: To what extent have you hated yourself due to your gambling losses? on: February 03, 2024, 04:43:56 PM
So, let's share our worst gambling experiences, have you ever hated yourself so much due to lack of winnings in gambling? To what extent, and how did it end?

Do you still hate yourself even now?  Grin

Lets discuss.

Oh yes definitely!

This happened recently wherein I had to gamble $400 because I was rationalizing with myself that I am too deep now and I have committed so much money that everything would be a waste if I did not win a single round. Unfortunately, the night ended with me losing much more money and I was never able to recover the money that I have betted on.

The problem with gambling stems from that hope that you are chasing- such hope that you MIGHT win in order to recover your losses. But that hope is a dangerous landfall that can snowball quickly especially if you are afraid of accepting that you just lost a handful amount of money.

With that experience, it made me thing that I never want to experience battling the odds. If today is just not my day, maybe gambling is not really for me.
282  Economy / Economics / Re: Why does a country borrow money from the world bank even when they can afford it on: February 03, 2024, 03:45:03 PM
Question: Why does the independent, developed and  productive countries still borrows money from the World Bank even when they have enough to execute their excused reasons given why they have to borrows the money?
I am interested about this because in my country, we are independent and a productive country with revenues ought to be contented enough to execute the projects in demands of what they still borrows from the World Bank for and yet there is no economical improvements in the country instead we are running economical backwards.

I think this has something to do with the current state of the country that borrows in the World Bank.

For example, if a third-world country is struggling with their finances, they can borrow money from the World Bank in which the latter offers zero to low interest rates. Additionally, borrowing from the World Bank can also be an opportunity in the country if the details of the loan are generous.

For example, a poor country may be offered by the World Bank zero to little interest rates which can be payable for the years to come. This does not only help that poor country but it also gives them the opportunity to create various infrastructures that will benefit them long-term.

To answer your question, I guess if the World Bank offers no interest rates on their loans, that can be quite an attractive offer. Even if a specific country has a positive revenue, it does not hurt to ask for a little more cash, right?
283  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are you a generous gamblers on: February 03, 2024, 03:21:37 PM
If there is something that I can definitely associate myself with, it is that I share my winnings with my family.

Like my brother, I consider money won from gambling as "dirty money." This means that I have to spend my winnings as quickly as possible or at least allocate them to a certain activity to prevent any temptation in gambling again.

In the past, the money that I have won from gambling would be share among my siblings. I frequently surprise them by buying food or by asking them if they need anything. Also, some of the portions of my winnings were allocated to certain purchases for my school (e.g. books, materials, etc.) in order to supply myself with all the necessary things and to also help my father alleviate the expenses.
284  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Psychology of Investing in Bitcoin on: February 03, 2024, 02:40:50 PM
Well Hello from the other side ~

Ever felt that rush when Bitcoin hits a new high? Or the sinking feeling when it takes a nosedive? Let's talk about the rollercoaster ride that is Bitcoin investing. Are we in it for the tech, the profits, or just the thrill? Whether you're a HODLer for life or a day-trading.Let's dissect the highs, the lows, and everything in between. After all, the Bitcoin market isn't just about charts and numbers.

What are your thoughts on this ~ Let's discuss

I do think that majority of the people who invest in BTC are driven by profit (me included).

By basing it on the price history of BTC when it first started, you would see that its price before was even below $1. When I even started joining this forum last 2017, the price of BTC was around $4,000 and currently its price sits comfortably at around $43,000~. When it comes to investing in BTC, the sky is definitely the limit. There are dozens of discussions predicting that in the next 10-20 years, the price of BTC would skyrocket as it will break new ATH prices each fork.

Bearing this in mind, I can confidently say that my purpose is primarily for profit and for investment. While this may be my perspective, I am also not discounting the possibilities of the practical usage of BTC in our economics and financials as the blockchain technology is an excellent example on how transactions are foolproof.

Which of the trading do you do, spot or future? Although I love spot trading and it has been helpful to me to make extra income in the crypto space but future trading has shown me alot in this space. Future trading isn't easy at all. It involves alot of technical analysis. To me, I think it's not really ideal for a newbie.

Trading involves both considering the extrinsic and intrinsic factors that make it relatively difficult for a beginner. But I do recommend that newbies explore that method in order to further improve your knowledge in trading.

Trading is relatively difficult considering that there are lots of information and experience that one has to master. Even if there are experts in trading, they still do lose money in the process given the risks that are involved.

<..snip..>
I actually don't understand what you mean by wanting to work on this forum, but if you already have merit and a lot of activity, of course you have the opportunity to take part in a bounty or signature campaign.

If a person wants to participate in a signature campaign, one must exert all the efforts in order to be qualified. As a newbie, your first goal should be learning about cryptocurrencies and its fundamentals. Once you have a grasp on what cryptocurrencies are, then you are ready to take part into various discussions across this forum.

Another hurdle that you may encounter OP is gaining merits in order to rank up your account. This is perhaps the most challenging thing for newbies especially that merits are scarce resources that are rewarded for people who can discuss things with expertise.
286  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Another health benefit of online gambling on: February 03, 2024, 12:31:26 PM
Betting with online gambling firms will shield you from contracting communicable diseases because you are all alone in a comfortable atmosphere. My neighbor's behavior has made me focus only on crypto casinos because I am scared of my health. Don't get me wrong there are many well-built and very comfortable physical casinos that offer quality services, but when you are an online gambler you will not need to worry about the health concerns of fellow gamblers.

Well I think in general, the convenience of online has many benefits that makes it more preferred than onsite activities.

Online gambling has that kind of convenience where you can gamble anywhere at the pleasure inside your own home. The example that you provided, OP, is one practical example where a sick person can still gamble despite being familiar in a physical casino.

The best he could just do is to get used to online betting instead of offline which could disturb his health. Health is wealth and when you ignore your health over wealth that implies that you are practically killing yourself because your health status don't approve it. So you should duly inform him about the risk involved in such thing.

I agree with your statement.

Take gambling outside the equation, the neighbor should definitely exercise activities that can be applied online. This includes his work, obligations, socialization, and definitely entertainment, which is gambling in his example.
287  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Investment in gambling on: February 03, 2024, 10:15:23 AM
Gambling with ponzi Is not gambling Is Just taking a stupid risk. Since these are sites designed to scam people.

Moreover I don't know if we can really talk about an investment with figures like that.
if you had to consider withdrawal, deposit and management costs you would practically have nothing left in your pocket

This sums up everything to what you posted, OP.

Let me share you my experience:

Back in 2018, I also invested in a ponzi scheme (USI TECH) wherein they promised returns within a couple of months. Surprisingly, my brother actually profited from that platform where his investments doubled in a matter of six (6) months. The funny thing is, we even attended a conference held in our country in which the creators of USI TECH introduced their product to us. After putting $100 worth of BTC, two (2) months after that, they quickly shut their website and ran away with my BTCs.

OP, gambling by risking your money in a ponzi scheme is not within the spirit of "gambling" in the sense of putting your money in a game of chance. Ponzi schemes are guaranteed scams in which they promise to return your money in a matter of days with ridiculous interest rates; while gambling in an online platform or casino has the immediate factor where you could cash in your money after risking it in a game.

In conclusion, gambling money in a ponzi scheme =/= gambling in a platform.
288  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What remarkable thing have you achieved with the money you won from gambling? on: February 03, 2024, 08:43:43 AM
..... did you achieve something with the money?/will you try to sort out some of those problems that lead you to go into gambling, like using it to establish a business, or did you lavished the money because it was unexpected free money?

This is not me but my brother used the money he got from gambling in order to also start his mini-business of printing shirts.

Back in high school, my brother was a college student where our family somehow struggled financially. My dad was living pay check to pay check and there was just enough food for a family of 7 to eat monthly. My brother did not have as much cash and he tried doing sidelines (e.g. tutoring math students, etc.) in order to have his own cash.

When he was able to save around $400 worth of money, he tried gambling and he suddenly won $1200 in a single night. This prompted him to quit and he started his T-shirt printing business where he would visit botique shops, purchase plain colored shirts and he would print Nike and Adidas logos. He sold a couple hundred of shirts during his entire college stay and he actually quadruple his investment.

While this story of my brother is a happy ending, there were also times were he would also struggle to get out from his gambling activities. Ever since he won that amount of money, he would frequent gambling casinos to try his luck again but he failed. The worst lost he encountered was when he started with $200 and he lost all of it.

Moral of the story here is that when you actually won in gambling, there is always that possibility that you may lose in the future. At the end of the day, it is a 50/50 game where all the results are possible.

Hello everyone,

I'm totally new and I don't have a steady source of income so I'm looking for some help, nice to meet you all 😊

Hello and welcome to this forum, OP.

Before you get started, be reminded that this forum was created in order to have an extensive discussion with everyone regarding cryptocurrencies. That was the primary purpose on why this forum was created; signature campaigns and other services were just part of the plan.

Now, I saw that you wanted to earn some money in this forum. Before anything else, you must first understand what cryptocurrencies are. Knowing the fundamentals and its processes are relevant before you exercise any option to earn money.

Good luck on your journey and remember that before you start earning money, learn and know cryptocurrencies first.
290  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: stop the unnecessary blame on gambling whenever you get unlucky on: February 02, 2024, 04:39:36 PM
It’s pretty simple. When one wins a good sum of money, it’s solely due to his skills and prowess in gambling but when there is a loss or series of losses, it’s “gambling” that’s the cause of it. Very quick to claim all the glory when the outcome is positively in your favor and quicker to absolve oneself of any fault or responsibility when the outcome isn’t what was hoped for and turns out negative.

I agree with your statement.

People tend to be one-sided when it comes to winning and losing. Like what you just mentioned, whenever we fin, we always focus on ourselves too much to the point that we tend to discredit the efforts of others even if they contributed on why we won on the first place. Then if a person loses, they tend to blame others since they cannot accept the fact that they lost due to their efforts.

In conclusion, it is always easy to look for a scapegoat than to accept our shortcomings. It is so much easy to blame others rather than to accept our mistakes and this is primarily the reason on why we blame others on the mistake that we made.
291  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Proverbs and Sayings that Act as Triggers to Gambling on: February 02, 2024, 02:29:36 PM
Just as we have expressed our concerns about certain gambling advertisements serving as potential triggers, I have observed and I think that there are gambling proverbs or quotes can also play a role in influencing individuals. Look at this Chinese proverb, "If you don’t gamble, you won’t know how lucky you are." From this proverb, it can spur a regular person to explore gambling as a means to test their luck and become hooked. Also, the person who has been gambling will want to continue gambling while being hopeful that someday they would eventually be lucky and hit the jackpot.

What other proverbs or sayings could potentially act as triggers, enticing individuals to initiate or perpetuate their gambling activities?

Well this is not a proverb but it is just something that I made up that can also be relevant/associated with gambling:

The only failure is when you stop trying.

I mean, it is your generic tagline with regard to success but this can be applicable to gambling where people would keep on gambling until they win. Unfortunately, this quote can be potentially dangerous as this will definitely compel gamblers to NOT stop until they have won a decent amount of cash depending on their standards.

Bottomline, proverbs and quotes should not be taken literally- always find the wisdom behind the meaning of every passage and take it to heart depending on how it can be applied on your current situation.
292  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling addiction does more harm than mere financial loss on: February 02, 2024, 02:05:50 PM
I think in order to be an addiction it would have to cause negative effects beyond just losing money as that is to be expected if you aren’t bad at math.

I would agree though that gambling has many potential negative side effects if you abuse it. This is why I always say to consider gambling like paying for entertainment. If you win money, that’s a side perk. It shouldn’t be the only goal or you will be disappointed more than satisfied.

I agree that every person who gambles must view it more on this kind of perspective.

If you view gambling as a means of earning profit, then you are putting yourself in a lot of risk due to its very nature. Remember that gambling is a risky venture- the only absolute thing that may happen here is the uncertainty of profit. If you also take statistics, the house will always win due to the presence of house edge that gives the latter the advantage the more you gamble.

This is the reason on why that in order for a person to prevent any overspending in gambling, approach it with a mindset of entertainment. Treat it as something that you do for the purpose of enjoying the risks and profit as the secondary goal.

I do think na yung pag impose ng 1% tax on online shopping was inevitable given na sobrang lumaki yung demand nito ever since COVID happened.

The market saw na mas convenient pala for sellers and buyers to do online shopping instead of visiting the traditional and usual convenience stores sa mga SM, etc. kaya yung tax na 1% ay talagang mangyayare. Pero yun nga lang, kawawa nga lang dito is yung mga small business owners who are just starting kasi pati sila matatamaan dito.

Quote
So may lalabagin silang sistema kapag ginawa nila yang ganyang sistema.

I agree dito.

I think mahirap din kung bigla silang mag iimpose ng tax sa cryptocurrencies given na hindi nga natin alam kung ano ang stand ng gobyerno natin dito. Siguro the fact na silent sila means na they don't see it pa as an issue or as an opportunity to tax. Pwede rin siguro na may plan silang mag impose ng tax sa mga exchanges pero yung implementation lang nito siguro ang mahirap.
294  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you believe visiting a seer or spiritual house could make you win a game? on: February 01, 2024, 09:06:10 PM
So I was wondering if there is any connectivity here, or do you believe such could happen in your own situation? Can you do such a thing to win? Have you had the experience of going to such places to seek predictions on how the outcome or results of games could be if they worked in your favor or not? Have you had anyone say or tell you such before and how their experience was?

Personally, I do not believe so but there are people who do believe in superstitious practices that gives them the boost to gamble more.

I remember back when I was a kid, my father has this tradition where he would feed his fighter chickens (for cockfighting) food mixed with the crushed bones of his grandfather who just passed away. Since my grandfather was the one who built this empire of cockfighting chickens and they even had a whole farm for it, he thought that it had good luck.

Quote
Let us discuss and share your experience so that people could hear and learn from your  story in the quest for you to win a game that led you to doing or going that extra miles in such engagement.

In my own experience, I never really believed so.

I think one of the reasons on why people have this superstitious practice is for comfort. When you are under a lot of stress due to gambling, you cling to every hope that you can get in order to ease that anxiety and fear. This is perhaps the reason on why majority of the players have their respective practices/beliefs thats let them do a ritual or whatever thing before they engage into gambling.
295  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Reason for acquiring bitcoins. on: February 01, 2024, 05:36:48 PM
What is the essence of buying and hodling Bitcoin like is it to accumulate it till it attains ATH then we sell it off and wait for a dip and start buying and holdling again or just accumulate it and start using it as a digital means of exchange or are we going to continue till the 21 million Bitcoins have be mined, already 19 millions have been mined remaining 2 million because overtime, i have come across several topics about buy and hodl bitcoin so i actually wish to know the sole objective of acquiring bitcoins.

Well for starters, BTC has a significant value converted to cash. Due to its value on the market, people view mainly as an investment mechanism that can be taken advantage of due to its high volatility.

If you have the opportunity to receive an asset that has the potential to quadruple or even increase its value for more than 1000%, would you take that opportunity? I mean, who does not want to be rich and experience this kind of success?

If you are going to base it purely on the price history of BTC ever since it started way back in 2009, check its price on that date and compare it to its current price. Also, if you understand its fundamentals, you would also see that it definitely has the potential to increase its value even more in the future due to forks.

In conclusion, people buy BTC to get rich and it is as simple as that.
296  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Pay off DEBT by do Gambling? think again before you loss more on: February 01, 2024, 05:15:56 PM
The valuable message that can be taken from my friend above is never take risks to gamble to pay off your debts, the pressure is very big, the chance is very small that you can pay off your debts, often you end up losing even more and losing your money. look for loans, sell your valuables or look for part-time work to pay off your debts, is a good way rather than playing the small money you have in gambling

While this has been discussed previously, let me repeat what I have previously mentioned about this topic.

Never ever gamble in order to pay current obligations. Additionally, never use gambling as a means of income in order to provide for your daily and/or monthly needs due to the nature of it being risky. If you use a risky venture in order to pay a current obligation, you are putting yourself in a very risky position that can definitely snowball into a bigger problem.

If you have an existing loan, pay it using the money that you have earned from a job. Never ever use gambling as a means to pay debt as this can worsen your position further.

Perhaps the reason on why most people use gambling to pay existing debts is due to its simple nature- either you win or you lose. People want to skip all the turns and use the short cut; but this shortcut is full of traps and dangers.
297  Other / Off-topic / Re: Before you start gambling, do some research first on: February 01, 2024, 02:38:43 PM
Is there anyway to help this person? I have given some advice to start using small percentage of the whole salary and safe the rest but still couldn't, and I don't want to help him to hold his money for him, he is over 28 years old, not a underage.

He have gotten used to this way because he started gambling all by himself and he won some money but end up even fuelling his addiction. What is next? Any tip?

I think you have done your part about giving him advice with everything which revolved around his decisions. This really boils down on how he can stop his urges that clouds his judgement from making rationalize decisions.

I do think that another advice would be to explore activities outside gambling. For example, you can expose him to different hobbies (e.g. hitting the gym, outdoor activities, etc.) that makes him not want to think about gambling. If his mind is busy with other things, then he can use these new hobbies as his gateway and rest at the same time.

While this may be some advice that I could think of, it really goes to show that if the person is willing to help himself, then it may be achievable. But if he still continues his acts despite people telling him otherwise, the problem is really with him.
298  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Viewpoint of a fan gambling on: February 01, 2024, 02:12:12 PM
When I saw a survey indicating that the majority of voters chose the player that only a handful of experts expect to win over the player that has proven to be more dominant, it blew my mind.

I am talking about the boxing match between former champion and big star Anthony Joshua and mma star Francis Nganou. However, I remember not long ago I refused to place a wager on Real Madrid because I desired Girona to win La Liga. In addition, wagering against the Los Angeles Lakers when matched with the best NBA teams is difficult for me.

I want to find out if there are individuals like me. What percentage of the gamblers in Bitcointalk are wagering and not wagering to their dearest star player, club and team?

I always go with statistics as it is the best piece of information that I have against the house.

Statistics exist for a reason- they are reliable source of information where all of the match data are collated and compared with each other. If you have information that a certain team dominates a specific sport, then statistics would say that they are most likely to win a match.

For example, if a team has a positive winning percentage against a stronger team, then the most likely to win out of the two would be the former, as per statistics. Additionally, if a team has a huge amount of wins compared to a weaker team with many losses, then the former would most likely be the candidate as the winner.

At the end of the day, there is still that chance that the dark horse or the weaker team may win as nothing is absolute. But in a platform where you only have a few factors to cling on to, I would definitely choose the stronger/dominant team based on statistics.
299  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: You can not win if you do not risk on: January 31, 2024, 05:50:53 PM
Good day guys, how is the gambling industry helping you this period?

However I just want to say that in the game world gamblers are always there to bet and the important thing here is when a gambler can not risk he also can not win, true or false?
Many might still believe that a gamblers who's just gambling at the first day might end up winning w huge amount of money that he wasn't expecting but the truth is that as long as you stake on bet you have already risk your money, be it big or small.

Well, it could also go the other way- you cannot lose if you do not bet in the first place.

In gambling, the sweet spot here is looking for that balance of knowing when to stop after experiencing a win/lost. May people tend to gamble more whenever they experience a winning/losing streak due to the emotions that we feel during those times. Unfortunately, many fail to know when to really stop as they tend to overextend their welcome, thereby increasing their losses in the process.

In conclusion, gambling is all about risk and acceptance. You lost?- move on and call it a day; You won?- better cash out your winnings before you gamble everything all away and regret your decision of continuing further!
300  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: If a addict lives within, which method would you choose to help them on: January 31, 2024, 05:06:42 PM
As a member of a family and there is a gambling addict within, which method do you think it's the best to rip off the addict from your family member?

1. Talk to them and don't leave their side for too long, show them some love and make sure they don't have anything to do with gambling ever again, be soft and gentle with them.

This method may work if the addict is willing to be helped in the first place.

Majority of these addicts are also individuals who have lost their cause but this may be regained by constant reassurance and support from their immediate family members. If these people believe that the addict can change, then the latter may be more inclined to change in the process.

Quote
2. Be harsh about it, force them to quit, let them know that gambling isn't this safe, bounce on them all the time because you love them, don't go any soft on them, because been soft won't make them see reasons why it's bad to be a gambling addict.

The result can go either way with this kind of method.

Naturally, addicts use their addiction as an escape to reality. With this on mind, it is essential to first know on why they are addicted in the first place. If they are addicted to gambling due to the sake of making a profit, then this method MAY work. But if the addict uses gambling as a way to escape reality, then this method may not work as effectively.

CONCLUSION:

At the end of the day, there is no iron-rule when it comes to knowing which method to use as this can vary depending on the reason on why these gamblers are addicted to it in the first place.

Understanding them and knowing their situation are key factors into knowing on how you approach them so you could employ methods that can be effective and helpful at the same time.
