Well, you'd earn more interest if the price rises ( meaning in cases where you were better off buying). So far I've earned quite a bit (8% in 15 days) with lending out USD. Traders made far more than that of course, but also had much higher risk. I don't want to encourage you now, after all you'd compete with my offers... I simply went with gut feeling and also I made sure not to overdo it. This can give better returns still even without trading risk than what most customers of pirate got! It won't always stay that way, at the moment for example not all my USD are even lent out...

I would guess that you then have a unified orderbook with orders from (for example) Bitstamp and MtGox at the same time. Crossovers might even get automatically arbitraged by the engine for some small profit on Bitfinex' side... Should MtGox then time out again, their orders simply would be dropped from the common order book and you'd only trade on Bitstamp for some time, until they fix their stuff. The more exchanges you have in there with a common interface, the easier it is if one single exchange fails for some time. Currently you only have internal + MtGox and as far as I've seen internal doesn't have sufficient depth at all. A problem would be though to keep high enough amounts of USD and BTC on each exchange. Bitfinex exists for long enough already though that they can probably assess the amount of money they need on a daily basis. Anyways - come on and take my money, damnit! Active loans are back to ~100k and there are lots of nice loan offers! Edit: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=136989.0 might be interesting to check out

Actually Bitfinex offers interest on Bitcoin deposits for quite a while now... and you can go long there too! How did they come up with these 12% and what is guaranteed as a minimum? 0%? More?

http://qkme.me/3tklsoAny movement is a good movement in my account, though I prefer traders also getting profits of course (so they can pay more interest!) and not just getting squished in a flash-crash. Edit: Whoever is quite bullish and this stampede works out might reap a quick 10% in a few hours it seems...

So you: * didn't get the money out ASAP from the open cypriotic banks in London or Moscow but waited for the ones in Cyprus to open again after people drained banks from abroad * went to a tax haven in the beginning and didn't get your money out after already Greece was nearly falling * thought getting about double the interest rates than in other Euro countries does mean you have the same risk * kept more than 100k EUR in an account that is insured for up to 100k EUR and then complain that the uninsured part gets taken away * really believe that being located on another tax haven even outside EU jurisdiction will build confidence in your customers
In reality your bank account got robbed by greed - both yours (you chose the tax + interest haven in the EU) and the administration of Cyprus.
Also your user picture is highly offensive and I'd like to suggest you change it.

Yeah, or create a less-eyecandy version for the geeks (I would be happy with even just a JSON file with all exact lending offers/demands - but then without rounding, grouping etc. and with IDs so I can assess how far my orders are actually in the queue).

I'm not too sure about the firstbits thingie, having at least the full address on there might be useful for people not having smartphones to scan QR codes.
Also about QR codes, without a webcam or smartphone one actually has to do quite some work to actually get to the address/private key (take a picture with a digicam etc.) - having a (compressed) cleartext private key might be useful, also as a backup. While the current Bitcoin users might be more on the "techie" side, still a lot of people don't even get what QR codes are, think they are only links to web sites or some other stuff. Having human readable characters might take more space but create more trust and also have some benefits for "non-QR people".

Over night, BTC jumped from ~79 to ~85 USD. That's ~7% a day. That's ~2500% a year. VIR still lingers at ~250% APR (and one has to deduct 10% of that for Bitfinex) a year... Also my daily interest went back (due to having to lend out at VIR) to ~1/3 (117% APR) of what it was during the rally from 70 to 75 (which was smaller...).
Just to give people an idea which rates are possible and to make them think which are fair or not. At least now it seems there is a bit more liquidity in USD lending, so rates go down a bit as well. In different news somebody finally dared to borrow a few of my BTC... not a bad move, considering that the weekend is coming!
@runeks: The 16 character code is your secret, the code (one-time token) to be entered is 6 digits long and consists only of numbers (0-9). This one changes every 30 seconds and is generated by your Google Authenticator program.

More arbitrage --> more volume for trading bots! Also the "algorithm" behind arbitrage bots is not really a secret at all, it might be better to get people to code up plugins for various APIs than to keep it a guarded secret. Also moving big amounts of money between exchanges is not trivial and not cheap too... Thanks for actually open sourcing and releasing a useful and potentially profitable bot.

Well, if you're a customer there you might not want them to be robbed from the outside...?!
You could transfer a nontrivial but also not business threatening amount of BTC to one of your addresses (maybe ennounce that here? On the other hand it might be easy to know which business has this flaw via network analysis) and then immediately send them back - that should hopefully trigger some alerts...
