Is Ripple classic a distributed system or do they just have central servers? Who stores the ledger there? Anyways, I'm not too much into Ripple classic and I guess that's also besides the point here.

Bitcoin could work without fees, but then mining would be not paid besides coinbase transactions and it would be only done voluntarily. This would lead to less security probably but higher and more aggressive investments in the early phase, when mining is lucrative. A fixed supply is not a reason to have transaction fees, but I guess fees are generally accepted as being necessary as well as benefitting a certain group of people (Bitcoin: Miners due to reimbursement, OpenCoin Ripple: XRP holders due to deflation). With 0 fees, there need to be other incentives to keep the network up and secure.

Compared to BTC by the way, Ripple fees are negligible. Just loading a Bitcoin client and verifying the last few blocks since I went offline probably already eats up more money in electricity than a Ripple transaction currently costs - so I don't see an urgent need to have PoW attached to Ripple transactions, as this would make them more expensive than a transaction on OpenCoin Ripple with no apparent benefit to me.

You don't need all transactions to validate new transactions, only the UTXO set, which will be the work of SPV+ clients (see the "ulimate blockchain compression" topic).

XRP serve multiple purposes...

The "transaction fee" aspect might very well be covered by PoW, maybe even the proof of stake/ownership aspect (the "reserve amount" you need to keep on an account).
For the "network internal asset" part however bitcoins are not too useful as they are not tailored towards microtransactions and transactions also take quite long to be finalized.

There might be a market for XRP being mined (maybe for some limited time?) or at least distributed in a different fashion than being distributed by a central authority.
I'm sure that people will release forks with no XRP or other currencies replacing XRP. I doubt though that a system like this would be very useful.

It's still weird that people seem to reduce Ripple to the use of XRP - XRP are a shitty store of wealth and not really useful as a currency. Ripple anyways tries to be something else than Bitcoin, XRP are just a tool amongst many and they are also not required to use the system in any serious quantity (compared to BTC where you HAVE TO own an equivalent ratio to whatever the BTCUSD price is at the moment to buy something from merchants or you can't use the system).

I'm not sure if this thread belongs here though - do you want to have help/ideas in implementing BTC into rippled to replace XRP or do you just want to rant about OpenCoin? In the former case, I'd recommend you to be more explicit in the thread title and OP, otherwise it's very likely that this thread ends up in Alternative Cryptocurrencies.

Kommt auch drauf an, was du mit den BTC machen willst - auf Bitfinex.com kannst du z.B. gehebelt handeln (derzeit 1:2,5) - Zinsen auf Bitcoins sind da unter 20% im Jahr.
Wenn du die Coins wirklich "in der Hand" haben willst, dann kannst du die Zinsen gleich mal mind. verdoppeln was ich so gesehen habe, egal ob auf coinlenders oder btcjam.

Mach doch mal ein Angebot, das beinhaltet:
* Wie viel du brauchst (in deinem Fall 140 BTC)
* Wofür (ungefähr) die BTC eingesetzt werden sollen (in deinem Fall anscheinend Mininghardware vorbestellen?)
* Wie viele Zinsen du zu zahlen gedenkst
* Bis wann du die 140 BTC + Zinsen zurückzahlen wirst und in welchen Raten
* Eventuelle Sicherheiten (ein Auto, das vermutlich weniger kostet als ein neuer Bildschirm ist meiner Meinung nach keine Sicherheit)
* Begründung der Bank bei der man um einen Konsumkredit angesucht hat, warum diese einen nicht nimmt bzw. warum dieser teurer ist als das was du hier erreichen willst.
* Sonstiges (z.B. können Österreicher mit der Bürgerkarte rechtsgültig digital signieren. Damit kann man dann einen Vertrag unterschreiben, der auch Hand und Fuß hat.)

Nach 6-8 Jahren hat endlich mal einer wirklich Geld überwiesen, die Betreiber sind sicher schon in der Karibik!

Besonders seltsam/gemein/öde/fies/perfide/... finde ich, dass die beantworteten Fragen auch gelöscht werden. Das hätte man sicher besser lösen können.

Mir fällt außer Unfähigkeit, Unzuverlässigkeit, Vorbelastung etc. kein echter guter Grund ein, wieso man eine gute Idee nicht bekannt geben könnte oder es nicht schaffen kann, kleinere Beträge aufzutreiben.

Eine Kreditkarte hat mehr oder weniger komplett ungefragt schon mehrere 1000€ Kreditrahmen, aber hier im Forum betteln manche Leute um 3stellige Beträge und machen ein Geheimnis drum als hätten sie den Quellcode von Windows 8 zu bewachen.

Ideen haben keinen Besitzer und das Internet/die Welt ist groß. Wenn diese tolle Idee auf keinen Fall verraten werden darf, dann skaliert sie entweder schlecht (und funktioniert daher nur in einem so kleinen Rahmen, dass sich das gar nicht lohnt zu investieren) oder sie IST einfach schlecht (oder der "Ideeninhaber" versucht einfach nur was zu vertuschen, z.B. ASICMINER shares zu kaufen, oder wie es früher "in" war, bei pirateat40 zu "investieren").

Im Übrigen wachsen Ideen meistens dadurch, dass man sie teilt und man bekommt neue Blickwinkel und Sichtweisen von anderen mitgeteilt. Auch dann kommt es mir eher seltsam vor, wenn jemand die Weisheit mit dem Löffel gegessen hat, und besser weiß als ich selbst, wie mein Geld verwaltet zu werden hat, dabei mir aber andererseits zutraut, diese hochkomplexe Angelegenheit zu kopieren...

Das andere Problem sind selbsternannte "Geschäftsleute" die mit reinem "vertraut mir doch und ihr werdet reich" auftauchen und dann erwarten mit offenen Armen empfangen zu werden.
Wer mein Geld will, von dem will ich Daten... ganz einfach und vermutlich auch nachvollziehbar.

Sonst kommt halt sowas wie in dem Thema hier raus, wo entweder jemand echt blauäugig in die Welt hineinstolpert oder eben einfach das Vertrauen von anderen missbraucht und lügt - beide Optionen sind nicht gerade vorteilhaft. Wer Risikokapital braucht sollte eben nicht davon ausgehen, dass man das in einem Forum auftreiben kann mit weit weniger Infos als eine Bank bräuchte - eher sollte man bereit sein MEHR Infos zu geben, da man nicht persönlich vorstellig werden kann.

Paper wallet on good acid free paper printed with laser printers should be one of the safer bets. USB sticks can be used additionally, but I wouldn't rely too much on them.

Nein, das ist eine Auswirkung der Tatsache, dass man offenbar Leute an beliebige Orte in einer Stadt locken kann die mittlere 4-stellige Beträge Bargeld dabei haben. Ob man dafür Goldbarren, Bitcoins, Klopapier oder sonstwas anbieten muss ist ja egal.

Für mich riecht das alles sowieso nach Scam + Erfindung.

Wenn man noch sicherer sein will, lässt man den anderen erstmal 10€ beheben, behebt selber 10€ und dann macht man erst weiter. Für einen selbst immer noch anonym aber im Ernstfall gibt's da so einiges an verwertbaren Spuren. Bei 4.5k EUR hätte ich aber ohnehin mir erstmal nachweisen lassen, dass die Bitcoins überhaupt existieren.

Außerdem: Transaktionshash/betroffene Addresse? Eventuell lässt sich da nämlich zumindest herausfinden, wo das Geld gelandet ist.

Generell: Polizeibericht (kann man ja teils schwärzen) her - ob das Geld jetzt deins war oder nicht ist ja erstmal nebensächlich, du hast es verloren als es in deiner Obhut war.

Gute Übergabeorte sind übrigens auch Bankfilialen nach Ladenschluss. Erstmal beide nett in den Bankomaten lächeln (meist recht gute Kamera die man auch nicht so einfach entfernen kann) und dann einfach die BTC per Smartphone(!) überweisen. Notfalls gibt es in den Banken auch Telefone, Videoüberwachung und die Polizei ist dort auch schneller als wenn einem in einem Cafe irgendwelche komischen "Coins" und ein Smartphone geklaut wurden. Wie kann man nur mit 4.5k EUR einfach so durch die Stadt spazieren?!

If you're after a full block chain, you are probably still for very long much better off just downloading a torrent or so.
If you want to have a lite client instead, use ultraprune and/or the SPV+ mode that is in the works.
If you just want to have access to older transactions, use bloom filters.

Also it seems the OP does NOT want to distribute block storage, but rather individual transactions indexed by hash (even if they have been pruned away). To make this somehow secure I guess one needs: TX hash, remaining merkle branch + block hash. Then one can see that this transaction was actually in the block that it claims. Still I am not too sure if a local database or a trusted local key-value store (noSQL) would not be more suited to the task.

Yes, also it is strange that people use hot wallets on servers - using BIP32 addresses it is easy to run a hot wallet at home on a mobile internet line for example. Good luck in finding that IP even. Also you could just run TOR at home too to hide your hot wallet IP even further.

Anyways - it's sad to see that people prototype stuff quickly, gain traction and then suddenly realize not by their own but by getting hacked that they screwed up. Then, because others put their trust in them, they just can walk away unharmed and disappear. People who warn about that do either so in a way that is usually insultive or at least perceived as a "typical naysayer" that just weakens the entrepreneurial spirit... This is still the internet and you have to expect that there are hundreds or thousands of people out there that are smarter and better than you in any and every aspect - tread carefully!

Im Endeffekt investiert man also in zeitlich limitierte Miningverträge, richtig? In dem Fall geht man meist quasi eine Wette auf fallende/sehr langsam steigende Difficulty ein. Ohne den genauen Preis und die Hashrate zu kennen würde ich nicht empfehlen da Geld in die Hand zu nehmen.
