61  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: August 02, 2019, 02:43:41 AM
Taxes on crypto are getting too complicated and dangerous:
https://www.reddit.com/r/tax/comments/9tcnu8/did_i_ruin_my_life_by_trading_crypto/

The problems are the following:

1. The tax code for crypto is ambiguous, there is no widely agreed upon way to calculate taxes.
2. When exchanges fail, the trading information is lost, so it can be impossible to calculate trading gains and losses.
3. Accounting fees can be very high for crypto trading, sometimes more than the actual money made.
4. It is possible to owe more in taxes than was actually cashed out.
5. The rules change, and some of those changes are retroactive, so even if taxes are filed correctly today, in future tax collectors can claim that the taxes were not filed correctly and impose arbitrary penalties.

Devcoin is worth very little, but the accounting fees and risks are still high. It's a lot of hassle for little gain.

Because of this, unfortunately, I am going to resign from devcoin, until taxes are simplified or there's a big tax free cryptocoin jurisdiction, which I don't expect to happen for a long time if ever.

I don't want anyone to get in trouble because of something I'm doing or developing. I'll do the accounting for round 94, after that devcoin developers can handle the receiver files however they want.

I'm sorry for leaving. I wish there was another way, but I don't see one.

Hi Unthinkingbit,

This note is to publicly let you know that after a long internal discussion I'm proposing myself for running accounting from round 97. It took some time, but we are finally on the same page with the admin team, which is vital to keep running this project. Thanks for your trust on the devcoin developers for holding this big responsibility. We are doing our best to honor your legacy!

Also, I want to take a moment to say thank you for the Devcoin project! Which otherwise won't be possible without your initiative, courage and hard work through all these years, even more for those things that only founders do in silence to keep the dream alive. You'll always have my profound respect and gratitude Unthinkingbit!

May we meet again.

I want to state that I wholeheartedly agree with him taking on this role. He's got great ideas and really wants to help push this forward, and I am behind him 100%!
62  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Solar Powered Bitcoin Lottery on: June 28, 2019, 02:22:56 AM
If you are able to generate solar energy and you use it for a fruitless mining endeavor, you are in fact losing money as you could be using that energy to reduce your electricity bill or selling it to the provider to make some cash.

The smaller USB miners require almost zero electricity, so they're likely using solar to power that little bit. It wouldn't be enough to power much else (so no selling excess back, no reducing usage elsewhere).

64  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Top 10 Risks Of Bitcoin Investing (And How To Avoid Them) on: April 23, 2019, 09:36:39 PM
Investment is always risky, It's on bitcoin or on gold or something else.If you can't accept the risk you can't gain profits. And thanks to the OP the information you collected, pretty well how to avoid these risks. Not only for newbie but also for the investor, It's a readable thread.Despite of risks, I believe in bitcoin still now because bitcoin doesn’t disappoint me.
IMO,Gold is not an risky investment and it is not to be considered as an investment most of the time because the value of gold is not increasing too much every year which is more like storage of value to avoid from inflation.

Gold only has value because people say it does, though, otherwise it's just another mineral in the ground. It's no different than copper or anything else aside from people wanting it. The same is true with fiat money, cryptos, etc. So it can definitely be a risky investment.
65  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Two things: best forum software? And... Admins needed on: April 20, 2019, 08:51:48 AM
I am looking for reccomendations on the vest forum software for a community and project discussion.  Something like what bitcointalk is using.

Second, are there any admin volunteers who would work for free until we start earning revenue?

Thoughts?

phpBB is the best free forum software, with a massive community behind it and thousands of plugins and tutorials to do just about anything you could want. vBulletin is the best paid one, with the same concept but much more beautiful software and a company that backs it instead of just volunteers. Really, both are great pieces of software, but phpBB can also be used while growing and vBulletin after it takes off (if it does) as well since everything can be imported and moved over easily.
66  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Crypto Club for Newbies on: April 20, 2019, 08:49:42 AM
I am nervous about talking about it in a forum but no idea is a new idea. It's all about implementation.  I need people to tell me the truth so I don't waste time and money!! Creating a startup is stressful enough. LOL

My developers and myself are all US based. We are also working on some other ideas by implementing our own wallet for our users crpyto (security is a MAJOR concern), this legally bypasses some US security/trading laws.

I am almost positive that seasoned traders wouldn't join our service. The service would be marketed towards newbies and people who just want to sit back and collect crypto. I would hope that seasoned traders would be happy when we succeed since we would be introducing new users to the market.

We talked to a consultant who recommend we create a business in Hong Kong but that just seems non-trustworthy. We want to be 100000% legit but all the paperwork for the US is so expensive. So we are now looking for investors.
I don't know... if you saw a business created in Hong Kong with a US team, would you still use the service?

I think it's a good idea in concept but it depends on how well it all plays out. Too many sites have promised similar things, especially when it comes to investment groups, where the people running them either ran them into the ground or flat-out scammed. For this to work, I think most people would need to know what makes you different from everyone else and why it will succeed.
67  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Blockchain ✔- VR ✔- 3D ✔- MMO ✔- Simulator ✔- Bold claims ✔ on: April 20, 2019, 08:47:21 AM
This looks like a cool project, and as a gamer myself, I love seeing people who are bridging the blockchain and games together in different ways. That said, one thing that really stood out was on the Kickstarter, there's almost no images -- it's almost pure text, and it's full of grammatical errors. I'm sure that's something that will put off a lot of people that are worried about vaporware, which is all too common.

That said, I'll follow this and see where it goes. Are you looking for any sort of partners? I'm a professional editor/proofreader and can help with all forward-facing content if I see that the project shows promise!
68  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Idea for Bitcoin tipping app on: April 20, 2019, 08:40:15 AM
This is pretty much the concept of the Brave browser, is it not? Where you are tipping based on content you like and such? Just with Bitcoin instead. Or how are the two different, in your eyes?

70  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: September 25, 2017, 08:17:17 AM
I have started to strengthen the DVC/LTC order-book, but of course to strengthen the buy-side (buying DVC, using LTC) involves taking "real wealth" and converting it in LTC with which to place "buy DVC" orders.

Since there are many other things I can do "real wealth", it naturally occurs to me to wonder what exactly I am buying by buying DVC.

Once upon a time buying DVC used to mean supporting the development of Free, Open-Source software.

Specifically, the Free Open Source Software I was interested in was certain cryptocoins and certain games and certain tools useful or potentially useful for integrating cryptocoins and crypto-assets with games.

Back in those days everything seemed fine, we had a number of deployable multi-player-game systems, an endless budget (shares of DVC) with which to commission any code changes the games might need in order to better integrate with one-another and with the backdrop of cryptocoins and crypto-assets linking them all together into one overarching multiverse economy, wow what could possibly go wrong?

One of the thiongs that went wrong, it seems is suddenly the development budget, that is to say, the shares of minted DVC, suddenly got diverted awat from software development into the development of prose (writing, written material); and furthermore not specifically prose designed to enhance the economy of the multiverse underdevelopment but seemingly mostly prose that did not even make any mention of the multiverse, so that all this massive collection of prose did not even seem to effectively promote the economy of the multiverse at all, instead it chopped the whole thing off from its root, which had been free open source software.

We were not even designing whole new systems from scratch, but sensibly and economically taking already-existing software systems requiring minimal modification to link them altogether into one larger multiverse and in fact mostly being able to work together to build that multiverse without even absoluitely having to change the code at all, provided human labour could be used to perform the linkage tasks that ideally would eventually be handled in code.

So as I look into adding more and more LTC to the buy-side of the DVC/LTC market, I find myself asking just how much of the minted DVC nowadays actually goes to software developers and to bounties for making the needed changes to existing software to better support the multiversial economy we are building, as compared to how much is being frittered away on unrelated writings, writings that are not part and parcel of documenting and marketing the multiverse that we are building?

Maybe it would be useful to allocate some bounties for the kinds of articles that we probably need for easing the introduction of people into our multiverse?

Maybe articles by new players describing by what route they chose to enter the multiverse, what choices they perceived to be available to them, which they actually chose and why, how theyt went about whatever they did go about and so on?

It was kind of assumed that since the game provided an endless wealth of things to write about, players would be the primary contributors to Devtome, basically creating an ever growing wealth of documentation about the game and how it has been played any how it could be played any whether this that or the other approach to play seemed better or worse than verious other approaches and so on and so forth, doubtless with somewhat propagandistic slants making one's own guild or nation or whatever sound like a better one to team up with than its competitors and so on to add spice to the narratives.

-MarkM-

Gotta be honest. I have tried to get into the game a few times. It's just not user-friendly enough. It's confusing and somewhat convoluted. I think that's why it's not really catching on -- learning how to even get in the game and do anything is a job in and of itself. That said, I love the idea of a game backing DVC. But it has to be easy enough that passive players can dig in.

good project i think can big succes
why not use ETH token smart contract, ussualy all people prefere use ETH token smartcontract
and easy added to exchanger, waves token can dificult added to exchanger after ico end

wait open bounty
Though most tokens are using Ethereum Smart Contract these days, it is the preference of the developers. I don't think end users will have any preference over the ETH platform than the Waves tokens.

MPX can also be held on the MoneyPot platform in user accounts so that you don't need a Waves wallet or anything. It's really just up to personal preference.
74  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: 🔥[ANN][ICO] MONEYPOT X (MPX) -- Fuel the Moneypot Network | Built Products🌟 on: September 14, 2017, 09:46:35 AM

MPX tokens are distributed right away after my contribution or will I have to wait for the crowd sale to be over to get my MPX tokens?

Thanku
Anyway you may not need to wait after September 30th as ICO ends there. I guess we will get mpx tokens once we contribute in ICO but it would be great if devs will be confirming this.

As stated in the white paper, "MPX is hosted on the Waves platform. 100,000,000 tokens are set to be released to registered Waves addresses upon completion of the ICO." (Source: Page 9, bottom left).

Tokens are sent out proportional to each person's contribution to the project, so it's impossible to send them each time there's a contribution.

Reading this thread makes me a little sad. While I wouldn't trust you yet due to your lack of reputation, I think people are way off base claiming this is destined to fail due to the script. Branding is important, as is marketing. Neither of those are dependent on the script used. Those who fail do so because they're not marketing. They're not growing. They're not giving players what they want. There are many sites with previously failed scripts that do extremely well because they are able to penetrate the market.

You do you, OP! And following to see how it goes, Smiley.

For anyone looking into this, let it be known that he's gone silent to his investors and has been for over a week (ever since he wiped the investor wallet out). He still visits the forums but past that doesn't give any update or anything and doesn't respond to inquiries.

As a result, do NOT send any funds.
78  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🌟🔴🌟🎲🌟🔴🌟MONEYPOT.com -- Crypto Casino Suite and Web Wallet 🌟🔴🌟🎲🌟🔴🌟 on: September 06, 2017, 12:23:50 AM
so is it done or what ?? I can access the new platform but things seem not working fine
like I'm trying to login to bitexo but I'm getting App improperly configured. Invalid Response Type , so IDK what that is

is that happening with all the users and in all apps or just exo ?? cause most of my bitcoins are in exo atm

API will be up asap (wanted wallet up so people can see the new design, get acquainted with it, etc.). You still have access to funds through the MP site (visit the app there -> withdraw/deposit) even without access to log into the apps.

I am 100% on board with the interest idea, and think it would go a long way towards promoting holding the coins. Could even implement one of those "must hold x days" rules to make it more effective.
80  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BitPay Visa - Why I Love It on: August 19, 2017, 06:45:53 PM
The card looks loaded with pretty cool features but is it accepted in the asian countries? What if I travel abroad and use in the Asia will it be accepted in the ATM terminal present there or it is just to be used over the internet virtually? I have seen similar case with tenx and crypto pay but not sure on how these cards work from the blockchain. What if I’m supposed to get real cash ? Will it dispense met that too?

If you own the card then please share the pictures of it, I’m interest to see it. Please respond to my post as I want answer for them. Thanks. PM me.

I really can't answer that... probably best to field it to their support team.

These crypto cards all right in the countries like USA where there are many places implanted with bitcoin ATM but not in the rest of the world. Plus there is no way you can spend the bitcoins almost instantly as you will have to wait until the transaction is confirmed over the blockchain. How are you dealing with that problem. I mean my Starbucks coffee will get cold until my payment is confirmed really!

However it has its own pros and cons so I don't think blaming it straight away is good thing. I hope there will be more development opportunities sooner as the bitcoin price is increasing Day by day and we have lots of money to spend.  :-)

I like how you skip over the post that explains things and then make false assumptions because you didn't read it, Smiley.
