341  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is Bitfinex turning into Mt. Gox? on: April 27, 2017, 07:24:46 AM

The premium was up to $120 at its peak. The chief strategy guy of bitfinex said yesterday they will be allowing the 1 time USD withdraws in a week or so which should bring premium down further.  Remember you can still deposit crypto but you cant get fiat in.  If they do the 1 time withdraws confidence will return and i expect some people will take the punt and deposit crypto to sell for a premium.
I can't seem to find anything backing up what you are stating. Mind linking me to that statement?

The statement's actually on their own site. It's in the message they sent a few days ago. Are you not actually reading what they say? Note: you have to click "I've read" or whatever to even access the site, so it'd behoove you to actually pay attention, Smiley.

Why is Bitfinex not trying to get the message across as far and wide as possible? This looks very doubtful. Maybe they either dont want a lot of people to know theyre allowing a one time fiat withdrawal or theyre not really sure if they can make it happen.

Good point. It's not on their twitter account, and they haven't done an official blogpost on it:

https://twitter.com/bitfinex?lang=en

Then this raises a lot of doubts and concerns. When an exchange starts doing questionable things you know something is going on with them that we cant see. I will not be taken aback if the owners run away and hide with their customers' money. I mean whats new?

They're regulated, they follow KYC/AML, and they've been transparent so far. I see zero issues. They have even promised everyone can withdraw the USD they have deposited, just won't be able to deposit more. It's not like they're allowing more deposits while talking about having issues.

Could someone sum up what happened with jewels? I have a vibe that it's pretty much what happened with Vcash. But I'll appreciate it if someone briefly explains Smiley

Creator took money. Creator disappeared and quit responding but still runs his games and is still speaking to players/developing, just nothing to do with the coin anymore. That's about it.

Being that this has been taken over by the community but the whole basis behind it was to create new games and utilize it within them... what's the new plan? What's going to drive its value?
345  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: BTC buy&sell - best rates from HiRiBi.com on: April 26, 2017, 05:57:45 AM
I have to say that this guys are legit. already  did with them 4 small transaction around 0.2 bitcoin and always got payed.  But still it is paypal so once you get monay withdraw them imeediately avoid chargeback, but i didnt get any till now.  My first sold btc was on 2017-02-27 .

A vouch form a newbie and newly created account is worth nothing. It's quite easy to make one of thse and just comment on this kinds of topics just to boost their sales. It's looks so fake that it is just the owners trying t trick people into believing your site. Oh by the way, you offer quite high as an exchange rate, that is as shady as it can get really.

Hello, trusted members also tried our service, you can find feedback right above.
We don't have any negative feedbacks and working more than 2 month now.
You can check our feedbacks on bitify, our official facebook, and trustpilot, you can contact each customer directly and ask about us.
You can test us by yourself with small amounts if you wish. Just try before saying that we are scammers. We are offering fair service and will be offering it
very long time.

Yeah you have feedbacks and all, we all just hope that one day you will not run away with your service and start charging back every single transaction you have made with your customers. Paypal transactions can be charged back within 365  days after, so you have plenty of time to accumulate transactions then do a charge back.

I agree with this, how sure are your customers that they will not be receiving a charge back on the 365 days after your transaction with them? What I don't like is that there are plenty of newbie accounts commenting and vouching for this service, which is not looking good as I don't think a newbie's first few post is about reviewing a site.

I agree that it'd be nice to have more reputable people vouching for them, but everyone has to start somewhere, really. I haven't seen any foul play with them yet, but as an outsider, it's hard to tell how many sales they've had. I'm curious as to the total turnover they've gone through...

I'm quite satisfied with sinohash (run by Eric Mu former HaoBTC member) .. check his thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1694162.0
Have there hosted S9 running almost month with only few outages ( in total would say around 10 hours during the month ) but it's bearable. I guess it is similar everywhere

What I like is the price  ... they want 43USD / month for S9 hosting.

What are the earnings like on your S9, though, and is he doing any reimbursement due to downtime? 10 hours per month seems like a fairly large amount -- almost half a day, or ~1.5% loss of earnings adds up quickly.

Single S9 earned 0.257 BTC (mining at kano since mar-31). Unfortunately the worst downtime was 5 days ago and to my luck the following days was very effective ( in number of found blocks). Just went through my payments and can estimate the total loss around 0.01 BTC ( so ~4% ). Well, that's a lot indeed.
No reimbursement as I did not ask for any. But I'm going to discuss it.

Thanks for the info, and definitely do bring it up. Most mining hosters will offer something, as their negligence and/or other issues are literally causing you to lose money otherwise. And it may not seem like a lot with a small amount, but over time and/or with a lot more hashing power, it adds up fast.

I just acquired the domain the other day. The name for the service had not been determined until very recently. I took suggestions from people and the 'cloudsmash' name was deemed the best fit. As stated in a previous message, I am still looking for help with a web front end development. Would you like to volunteer?

I think clearly giving information on what the compensation structure is would go a long way. I can't personally help out here, but may help find biters, rather than just tossing out that you need help.
349  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Poloniex or Bittrex on: April 25, 2017, 06:38:04 AM
Which of these two exchange services do you use and why?
Do you trust one over the other or is it a support or service thing that one is better than the other, have you tried both?
And how many of you use both services just to spread your funds across?

I prefer Poloniex.  It's very good at listing legit cryptos even if they're ones that get pumped and dumped often.  It also has a much larger trading volume which is better, and I rely on Bittrex a lot less (especially since they're not allowing fiat withdrawals for their Bitcoin/fiat exchange, which makes me think they're having serious trouble and something might go wrong).

Poloniex looks better as well but I can't say that that matters too much to actual trading.  It's just quite pleasant.

Yeah I'd say the biggest difference between the two is that Bittrex is more along the lines of Yobit when it comes to the coins they add, they add the coins that are shitty and submitted by people who simply have them in order to pump them. There's no other reason for a site like this in the least.

Poloniex on the other hand holds coins which actually have a pretty high market cap and daily trading volume such as XEM,XRP,XMR,ETH,ETC, and so on and so forth. These are coins which COULD be used (they're not but they could be) based on the tech that is actually behind them which is pretty nice too.

So, Poloniex all the way

first of all, don't fool yourself. all exchanges add what gives them the most profit. they do not see things that you and i call shit or scam, etc. the only thing they see is how they can make more money from adding such coin. and if they have to choose between 2 they will add the one that gives them the most profit.

secondly, do not even begin to compare bittrex with yobit. bittrex a legit and good service that has been working very well for years without any serious problems and the coins they add are all good and they are what people want.
yobit is a shitty scam place that is run by scammers who will add anything they want even if people never trade them.

I agree all around. The only deviators from the "add whatever gives profit" would be certain ones, like Bitfinex, Coinbase, and the like.

And 100000% dead on with YoBit. They also let you pay to add your coin, so even if you want to run a scam, it only costs a little coin and they'll let you do it. Ridiculous.
350  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Cryptolend.net - Automatic online lending on: April 25, 2017, 04:43:57 AM
hi ranlo,

Thanks a lot for your proposal. Actually the feature you want is already available Smiley

In the Strategy page, if you open the Expert mode you will find a setting called : ‘Keep amount’. This setting will block lending under a certain threshold of your balance.

Holding back a % of your balance could be an interesting improvement (thanks!) even if we think that it’s very important to keep strategies as simple as possible for a better usability and user experience for the moment.

Regarding swapping funds between wallets, it would require to add specific rights in the exchange’s API. For the moment we are dedicated to creating margin lending offers on your behalf. We are very cautious with any other API rights.

Actually wasn't aware that was already implemented (the first one). That's awesome and shows we're on the same page! Smiley

The %age could just be an addon there, such as "Keep amount: ____ BTC OR ____ %"

On a somewhat unrelated note, are your default settings seen as being a pretty solid setup? I noticed that it's set to only lend at 0.2+ BTC and such, for example, as opposed to 0.05 (I think this would be about the minimum right now).

It seems things re cooling down a bit. No next Mt.Gox. I assume one can withdraw BTC from Bitfinex?

Cryptos were never affected -- just fiat. So yes, you can deposit/withdraw BTC just fine. As well as any other crypto. For fiat, looks like they are doing (planning, if they still have issues getting a bank) to do one-time withdrawals per person so you can pull all your fiat in one swoop.
354  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Cryptolend.net - Automatic online lending on: April 24, 2017, 05:39:33 AM
Glad to hear that, and feel free to send us any suggestion or question.

Off the top of my head, maybe add a way to hold back x funds. For example, let's say I have 10 LTC in my account. I want to ensure I always have 5 liquid for whatever reason. I can set up a "strategy" that will ensure it will never invest more than balance-5, such that it will start by doing 5, as that grows, it'll do 5.1, 5.2, etc. If I throw in 100 more, it'd do 105.x, still leaving that first 5 behind.

I'm thinking about this in terms of liquidity -- it's nice to be able to lend, but would also be nice to have a little you can hold back. And to make it even more usable, allow you to hold back x% of the balance or x% of earnings, such that:

I deposit 100 LTC. I want to keep 50% of earnings liquid. So after a week, that 100 has earned 3 more. It's now lending 101.5, keeping 1.5 behind to liquidate/trade/whatever. For even MORE utility, have it swap those funds from the main wallet to the exchange wallet (or wallet of choice -- on each site) automatically so you can even keep the balances separate.

I can think of many uses for all of these scenarios, Smiley.
355  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is Bitfinex turning into Mt. Gox? on: April 23, 2017, 10:21:28 PM
I think bitfinex is bitcoin price always exstrem high, same today is bitcoin price over 1300 dollar
someday bitfinex can same accident Mt.gox

It's going up because there's no way to withdraw USD, but you can withdraw BTC. So people with their USD stuck there are paying high costs to be able to withdraw their money (as BTC).
356  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is Bitfinex turning into Mt. Gox? on: April 23, 2017, 10:08:54 PM

There cold storage still shows what BTC they have i'm guessing they have all the funds and the banks are being awkward. Keeping an eye on the situation though.
Bitfinex is solvent. They are strong brand and keeping their business running is far more profitable than bankruptcy.
After all they recovered from that hacking incident. Recently they managed to pay off 100% of of BFX Tokens they issued as temporary solution.
Banks are to blame here, they are seeking ways to undermine trust in cryptocurrency IMO.

Solvency doesn't help with respect to fiat, though. They haven't said they hold enough USD/CAD/etc. to cover all debts, just cryptos. I'm wondering about the fiat side as well, mostly because the bank ditching them may have also resulted in a forfeiture of funds.

We have done a complete redesign of the UI into a 'dashboard' type. More improvements incoming. Also members are now entrusting us with USD 6.5m equivalent, and counting!

I have to say, I love the new design! Saw it yesterday when I went to check up on stuff, Smiley. Makes a HUGE difference when it comes to usability.

The writing sample you provided is far from "error-free" (I quit counting when I had hit 120 revisions, and I didn't even finish editing it). That said, the cost isn't bad, just don't advertise it as something it's not.

Hi ranlo,

The above article is an eZineArticles.com approved article, meaning that it's qualitative. But I do understand that there indeed are some errors in the article, but not all our writers will do the same.

Thanks & look forward to your business.

Sanjay Das (Proprietor)
Sun Consultancy, India.

Ezine is far from an example of quality, Smiley. Anyways, my issue wasn't with the writing itself, it was the false claim behind it. That said, for the cost, I do think it's definitely worth it.

And with that... do you have any writers that are familiar with the gaming industry (like MMORPGs, World of Warcraft, Rift, and the like) and would be able to do daily articles just to cover the broad MMORPG market? Think of sites like mmosite, tentonhammer, and mmorpg, to name a few. Essentially, I'd be looking for daily news articles covering most games (so finding something to write about should be fairly simple) and an image or two to go with them.

360  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Cloudsmash.io - Decentralized VPS Cloud Open To The Public on: April 21, 2017, 05:46:11 AM
I'm confused on the selling your own resources part. If you do this, do you pick your own prices, or is the system set up with predetermined pricing that you have to go with?

And there's a downside to this type of system: how can you ensure that users hosting someone's VPS won't access the files/MITM it?

In this first beta round we are supplying all of the hardware and the prices are set at very reasonable initial levels. During the second round when people are invited to contribute their own servers then everyone sets their own prices. It all comes down to if you can offer a similar resource for a price competitive enough for someone to be interested in renting it.

In bitcoin terms, this is almost exactly like sites like miningrigrentals.com where mining rigs are listed by price and you select based on their reputation, rental history and mining rig performances. All of those factors dictate what a fair asking price is.

Here's a list to see what I mean;

https://www.miningrigrentals.com/rigs/sha256

To answer your question about the physical security of the system;

- All of the information is encrypted on the disks.
- The encryption keys are not stored in memory or on the disks.
- The operating system only exists in memory and is stateless, reboot and it's gone.
- Fabric is authenticated, a system can be forcefully removed from the fabric and it would be unable to rejoin
- If you reboot it you only end up with drives containing encrypted data.
- If you pulled a drive while it was running you would only end up 1/6 of the data and that would be encrypted to.
- You can't monitor communications because the only traffic in and out of the box is encrypted as well.
- There are forms of memory encryption and compression at play as well, so rebooting another OS to read ram won't help you either.
- The kernel was compiled with minimal hardware support and drivers, no external busses at all (usb, firewire, serial, etc)

There are some additional attack vectors of concern. There is an active effort to address those as well.

Great answers, Smiley. Which leads to another... there's no redundancy, is there? What if, for example, someone's system crashes? HDD failure, other hardware failure, etc. I saw that it would be replicated if someone planned to go offline, but if it were unintended, it would need to be backed up for safety (otherwise killing the purpose of using it for most real-world scenarios, since we'd be running sites and other services), but that would require multiple VPSs to be paid for or something like that...
