1081  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is next for Bitcoin? Seems like the only winners are early adopters unless on: June 22, 2023, 01:15:18 AM
I want to invest good capital but dont understand why I would do this on something made out of thin air. Sometimes seems like its a lot of fanboys just wanting it to go up and up so they can then sell to retail
Find a good discussion on its fundamental idea from a good book instead of Twitter/Reddit. Seeing how you don't see how companies make a profit from Bitcoin, I believe you're simply looking at the wrong place to understand Bitcoin. You can also browse around the Dev & Technical discussion on this forum. If after doing that you still don't understand or don't believe in it, then don't buy it. Nobody is forcing you to participate anyway, and if you're more comfortable with gold or other things then just buy that. Don't get trapped in FOMO.

So now that blackrock made some noise in the Bitcoin space and got everyone rallied up will this be the biggest money grab in history to then crash it on the recession?
Nobody can give you an answer. Who knows, maybe someday you will ask the same thing but you'll replace $110 with $60k. At the end of the day, it is a high-risk high-reward investment. If you don't have the means to shoulder the risk, maybe you should look for alternatives. Obviously, you can just spend $100 and then forget it for 10 years or so.
1082  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: A Non-Custodial wallet, Atomic Wallet, being compromised on: June 22, 2023, 12:51:25 AM
As of now I'm still baffled that they have any customers at all still using their service. It seems that I'm more worried than them regarding the security of their crypto, and I'm not even a user of Atomic Wallet  Cheesy.
I guess some people rely on their promise that they'll get their money back since the team is working with exchanges to freeze the stolen money. A lot of people still seem reluctant to be completely self-reliant to secure their money.

Quote
To summarize, less than 0.1% of Atomic Wallet app users have been affected. No new cases have been reported since June 3rd. None of the possible issues are confirmed as potentially causing massive breaches, at least in the latest Atomic app versions. Builds are verified by external auditors. Our security infrastructure has been updated, and the investigation is still ongoing.
IIRC, they said it affect less than 1% of their users in the past[1]. How do they even confirm it? Which number are they using to calculate this? The download numbers on Play Store?

Which auditors are they referring to btw? Are they referring to Least Auditors who suggest people stop using them in the past[2]?

1083  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: How is Cryptocurrency Taxed? Here’s a Detailed Guide on: June 22, 2023, 12:32:33 AM
In my country, there is no cryptocurrency tax. You will be prone to tax if you use centralized exchanges. These exchange companies collect tax indirectly for the government.
That is similar to how my country regulates crypto tax. I think crypto transaction tax is still crypto tax at the end of the day, at least that's how they categorize it here if I'm not wrong. It is quite small compared to other types of taxes, don't know how long this will last though.

Banks are restricted from dealing with cryptocurrencies so we don't have anything like bitcoin ATMs.
As far as I'm aware, Bitcoin ATM doesn't need a bank to function properly. People can buy and set up their own ATMs as long as their government allows it.

He says tech giants could easily scan our devices to find and hand over private keys to authorities if they were ever ordered to do so."
Does such a backdoor exist already? People should not store their crypto saving on a device like a phone in the first place.
1084  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Question from a newbie - raising $100 in BTC for charity on: June 22, 2023, 12:09:24 AM
I recently came across a website which said that they would pay up to $20 for writing a few paragraphs worth of positive reviews and promotions, but having contacted them they've not (as yet) replied - therefore I'm also trying to work out which sites are legitimate and will pay out and which ones are fake.
Don't engage in such things. You're basically helping them to scam people. Even if legit, $20 is way too much for tasks that can be done with bots. I've seen similar tasks being paid for $5/100 reviews on other websites. If you want to find a job with low requirements for this charity thing, try to apply for a rater position or something similar.

If you want to make money here, you need some time and effort so that you can at least rank up to a decent rank. Don't know if your goal has a time limit or not, but if you want to, you can try to contribute here and look for opportunities in the future.

Edit: I just saw your other thread. Just a suggestion,  if you want to promote that donation organization you can also put their link on your profile info.
1085  Local / Altcoins (Bahasa Indonesia) / Re: [DISKUSI]Altcoin Kategori Layer 1 & 2(Berpotensi tinggikah?) on: June 21, 2023, 02:43:24 AM

1086  Local / Mining (Bahasa Indonesia) / Re: Cara Perawatan (Maintenance) Laptop yang Telah Melakukan Penambangan on: June 21, 2023, 01:33:20 AM

Bukannya agan udah periksa sendiri?
1088  Local / Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian) / Re: [Q&A] Tanya Jawab Seputar Forum Disini/Ask about this forum here! on: June 21, 2023, 12:12:10 AM

1089  Local / Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian) / Re: Apakah Jaringan Blockchain Bitcoin yang Paling Canggih? on: June 21, 2023, 12:05:38 AM
1090  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance leaves Netherlands on: June 18, 2023, 01:21:56 AM
And also Binance is already banned by "The Ministry of Communication and Informatics" of Indonesia because dont have a license there but Binance buy indonesia crypto exchange tokocrypto
I don't think they even try to register locally though. The ban is also easy to bypass the last time I checked, with a DNS or even alternative link we can access Binance with no problems. I don't know if the government is just lazy or they made a deal on the background since they allow Binance to acquire one of the local exchanges with no notable problems. CMIIW.
1091  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Wallet for Android / Re: Pros vs. Cons on Android for Bitcoin on: June 18, 2023, 01:08:03 AM
Electrum only uses 6.8MB of memory on average and this has no effect at all and is not a cause of Foreclose.
What app is that? What does it mean by maximum usage, the maximum amount of RAM being used by the app? I've never seen an app like this before. Is it exclusive to your manufacturer's phone?

Foreclose bugs in an application are quite complex...
This is why logs are necessary if we want to find the reason why. At the very least I don't think Electrum is resource hungry for most modern devices.
1092  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Wallet for Android / Re: Pros vs. Cons on Android for Bitcoin on: June 17, 2023, 01:06:06 AM
I was using Android 13 at that time and most latest version of electrum available on the Play Store and had more than 100GB free space so definitely its not an issue with the system in my opinion but this is about months ago after the recent update I am not facing the force stopping bug which is good but the inaccurate while calculating the transaction fee still exists.
I think the memory being referred to here is the RAM, not your storage memory. I doubt Electrum consumes a lot of RAM though. CMIIW.

If you do encounter similar problems later down the line, you can probably try to record the logs and submit the issues on the GitHub page. It is kinda hard to find the reason since your device can be the culprit, especially if they have some extra features like power saving mode, app blocker that doesn't work all the time, etc.
1093  Economy / Economics / Re: 85% of AI start-ups will fail within 3 years. on: June 17, 2023, 12:54:27 AM
I read the article and I can agree on some points. They mentioned two main reasons why start-ups will fail, either running out of cash or getting bought by big players. Keep in mind that they specifically talk about AI start-ups, not the AI industry itself. If they define it that way then yeah, most of the start-ups will fail.

If their use is out of line, then they will fail. The world is developing every now and then, and if you, as a project owner, are not upgrading your project to match the trends and things that the world actually needs, then the only thing you should expect is failure.
Marketing is also playing a huge part nowadays. You can see how some meme coins explode without having any different use case, for example, I believe the same thing will happen in the AI market. I mean, a smart chatbox is not exactly new, just that they become popular recently due to marketing and trend. CMIIW.
1094  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Non KYC virtual cards (support POS via Apple Pay and Google Pay, and OnlyFans!) on: June 17, 2023, 12:28:32 AM
The site of the service not much informative, you can find up to date information in Telegram channel:
So what is the purpose of the website then? Your social media is also inactive. Checking from play store reviews I'm not really confident about your service either (some of them are from 2022, and you've yet to give a response to them as far as I can see). Your Google Play store has 10k downloads but there are no reviews, I can only say that it looks sketchy as of now.
1095  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Post your local news outlet, exchange, marketplace that support Bitcoin on: June 17, 2023, 12:14:23 AM
It's good to know that exchanges from Philippines doing great but crypto has no borders and marketplace, news outlets, are just business around crypto community so don't let them use your patriotism for their financial benefits. Smiley
I think the risk is related to bankruptcy and so on. If you use oversea service then it might take more effort to judge them accountable if they fuck something up. But even if you use your local exchange, it doesn't really remove the effort needed to ensure you get your money back when something happens. CMIIW.

Does this mean your government doesn't limit access to oversea business? My country used to be like that, but they started blocking domains from exchanges and other services if they didn't register locally. Some people use DNS or VPN to bypass that, but it adds another risk of being banned.
1096  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Please Explain This Bitcoin Trade on: June 16, 2023, 01:31:03 AM
You're doing a market sell, so your order gets executed immediately. Are you familiar with market sell/limit orders? I'm not sure if I get you correctly, but it seems like you want to place a limit order instead. If you want to learn more you can read it at their help page[1].

I also suggest you continue asking on your previous threads since this is related, and make a new one if you want to ask a completely different question/topic.

1097  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: ledger firmware update on: June 16, 2023, 01:18:31 AM
Seems like the fear that the wallet provider is the attacker kind of goes away with open source projects, verify signature, etc.
Have you made their software fully open source though?

They will obviously say it is safe to update, but the main concern is not really about whether Ledger wants to hack their customer's wallets or not, but the possibility of other attacks/abuse that can happen due to their latest update afaik. Personally, the trust is lost and I'd move on to other wallets as of now until they make everything open source so others can verify their words instead of trusting what they said (which have been proven to be a lie, including the "your seed never leave the wallet"). CMMIW.

By the way, no need to make a new thread about this since the previous one is still active[1] imo.

1098  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Are Bitcoin LN POS terminals the future of bitcoin payments? on: June 16, 2023, 12:46:05 AM
I still can't see how its better than using Mobile wallet since losing the card would allow any body make use of the card without been traced
If it occurs who would the person report to?
For the product mentioned above, it seems like you can disable the card if you lose it. You can also set a spending limit for each card[1], so somebody else won't be able to drain your money. If this becomes popular, I'm pretty sure other products will have more or less the same feature. The only upside of using cards like this is basically convenience. The target market is definitely the average joe instead of those who want more control over their money.

I still find having POS terminal for Bitcoin similar to traditional method of using third parties
Doesn't it depend on what payment gateway the merchant use? If they use a self-hosted and open-source payment gateway, I don't think you can say it is the same as a traditional fiat gateway. CMIIW.

1099  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Free electricity, just the equipment left. on: June 16, 2023, 12:31:15 AM
I'm not sure if using an electricity that has been connected this way would still be considered as a crime?
Even if there is no explicit regulation that bans you from doing that, I would not be surprised if they decide to cut you in one way or another. I mean, it is just common sense. If they know you consume a lot of electricity, they would get suspicious and would think what you've done is unethical at the very least. If your definition of meaningful is not limited to generating passive income, I can see other usages such as running a node, a NAS, and so on.
1100  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: After Bitcoin: Investor's Exodus to Virtual Money on: June 16, 2023, 12:09:41 AM
I think I will add it to GitBook through GitHub.
here is the link to both versions
Did you make it private on purpose? I don't think other GitBook websites require people to sign in to view the contents. I'm pretty sure you can make a GitBook public with some customization[1]. If you do want to share it with specific people, hence requires authentication, I'm not sure it will attract others since they can't even see any preview of the book through that link. CMIIW.
