1241  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is Tornado cash still up and usable? on: May 07, 2023, 09:04:29 AM
I cannot be certain if their mixing process is reliable because I never used Tornado Cash and even if I used it, I would never tell anyone that I have used Tornado Cash or any mixer hehehehe.
Understandable. It would be interesting if somebody test the service and make a detailed report just like how there is a paper on Bitcoin mixer. But I guess there is just not enough demand for that since altcoin mixers barely exist nowadays. CMIIW.

In any case, many people used it before the sanction. One of them is Sifu who is a famous scammer. His tokens were never traced after it went through the mixer. Also, Tornado is still very much alive in Binance smartchain.
I see. I guess that's why they decide to go with IPFS to prevent domain takedown or something similar (CMIIW). At the end of the day, you can't really make a decent profit if your service is unused by people due to a lack of UI.
1242  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Paxful back up and running on: May 07, 2023, 08:55:35 AM
If you want to continue discussing this, I suggest posting on the thread linked from the quoted post above. This thread is more appropriate for service discussion anyway so you don't have to move it. Just lock the thread and ask more there.

Btw, if this news is to be trusted, then the reason for their collapse is likely an internal/legal problem[1]. Not sure which side is doing what since the details are blurry. I'd rather stay away from any platform that has connections to either of them just to be safe.

1243  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Wallet for Android / Re: Pros vs. Cons on Android for Bitcoin on: May 06, 2023, 12:39:21 PM
This often happens and is also often ignored. Although I am also an android user, I did delete some blotware or crapware or junkware built into the smartphone that was deliberately installed (Sponsor). and it was very annoying.
The removal process also requires root access and some devices also require bootloader access to remove completely.
From my experience, most low-end phones do this but mid-end and high-end phones don't. I believe manufacturers do this to cut costs so that they can sell as many budget phones as they can with better profits. Fortunately, most of them can be flashed with a new custom rom without ads as far as I'm aware (unless your phone is really unpopular). I don't think people looking for budget phones are going to find an iPhone to begin with unless they are okay with secondhand devices. That being said, I don't think you should use a phone as your option if security is your biggest concern regardless of the manufacturer/OS.
1244  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Wallet for Android / Re: Bitefinance.net android app advertised as Bitcoin Wallet is stealing Crypto on: May 06, 2023, 12:23:28 PM
There is no other way to get rid of scam apps from the Play Store or other app marketplaces other than mass reporting the apps to the market owner, which is Google in this case. Don't expect a fast response though, you'll probably need to wait for days or weeks to even see that your report is having an effect. While there is a report of Google removing thousand of scam apps from their store, it doesn't really help if people can still post new malware apps easily.

Why would you download and use this app in the first place if there are dozens of alternatives with better reviews/download numbers.
1245  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I just found out something new about BTC. Is it true? on: May 06, 2023, 12:04:06 PM
You might want to check out consolidating inputs, especially if you regularly make transactions in small value or just make a lot of incoming transactions while rarely making an outgoing ones. There is a good thread that you can follow regularly if you want to get notified if the mempool is free and great for consolidating your inputs here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2848987.0.
1246  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Mississippi & Missouri lawmakers propose laws protecting bitcoin mining on: May 06, 2023, 11:55:29 AM
So, if I'm reading them right, those bills essentially only prevent discrimination of digital mining
CMMIW, what they mean by discriminatory is related to electricity rate only right? Or are there other forms of crackdowns that have no legal basis on miners in the US? So basically miners can now enjoy the same power source as others as long as they pay them and make sure to cause 'no stress on public utility generation'. I wonder how it will affect the surrounding household though, hopefully not too catastrophic. It would bring negative PR if miners cause some power station to fail for one weird reason or another.
1247  Economy / Exchanges / Re: What do you actaully consider KYC in terms of information that has to be given on: May 05, 2023, 03:23:46 PM
Example: the type of KYC exchange I am comfortable with.
1. KYC with SMS feature.
2. KYC with Authentication feature.
3. KYC with Email feature.
4. KYC with fingerprint feature.

The four KYC features above make me comfortable using certain exchanges, I am safe for these four things.
If you remove KYC from that list of features, you basically want a secure exchange that has multiple layers of protection from account hacking right? I'm pretty sure those features are available regardless of KYC in many exchanges, including the decentralized ones. I'm not sure why the KYC part makes you comfortable if your personal information is stored somewhere and you don't know who accesses it. We've seen many database breaches that result in varying degrees of consequences to the users, such as credit card info leaks.
1248  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitcoin network fee´s insanly high at the moment! on: May 05, 2023, 02:57:22 PM
But ever since I found it I always customised and not the automatic fee, that was always waaay to high calculated. I don't know why they actually do that, it doesn't make any sense.
From my experience, some wallets do the same thing as this. Not sure whether they use the same fee calculation method or not, but as far as I can tell from my not-so-accurate observation is that they take the median fee of the next block and add another 1-10 sats on top of it to make sure it doesn't get buried by other transaction. One of the reasons is probably because they want to prevent the average joe from complaining that their tx fee is set too low hence why they always overpaid it. It is definitely not the best choice if you know what you're doing. CMIIW.
1249  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is it time for Old Signature campaigns to redesign? on: May 05, 2023, 02:22:50 PM
Personally, I never click any signature because the design is cool. As long as the service being advertised is interesting or useful, I'd click it regardless of how ugly its design is. Maybe it will improve the brand image for a bit, but if the service itself is poor I don't see the point of spending their budget on making a new signature.

I believe the broken sig on different browsers mentioned above is more important to solve for a signature designer. AFAIK this is related to BBcode problem so I'm not really sure how they can solve it. This is where they should be more creative and make sure that even if the signature is broken the relevant links and brand info is still visible. When I use my phone some signatures don't even show the service name and the links are being pushed by the background(?), hence it is impossible to click it.
1250  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is Tornado cash still up and usable? on: May 05, 2023, 01:59:22 PM
Using the frontend will certainly be a risk, however, I am not very sure if using Tornado Cash by connecting directly to the smart contracts is safe or not after the sanctions by the American government.
Is their mixing process reliable to begin with? I'm not familiar with how they work, not to mention they mention some RPC blocking can hinder their service if they do still run it right now. At the end of the day though, I would be surprised if the government just stay still and do nothing to decrypt/analyze the transactions made through them. Would be a weird move since they can use that as a basis to sue others. CMIIW.
1251  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin trading be my sole source of income? on: May 05, 2023, 01:36:10 PM
Others have already pointed out how risky and unwise the decision is. I'll just remind you that even if you can spend 24/7 in front of a trading terminal, what you get daily is absolutely not guaranteed. I'd not rely on such a volatile income regardless of how good I am at doing that, I doubt any big traders do the same thing. You can probably start acting that way if you can spend a thousand dollars easily and never going to get into trouble even if you lose everything. Heck, some professional traders/brokers get paid to trade.

If your job is quite decent, save some money and use that money to buy BTC every month or just do a weekly trade or something similar. The profit might be smaller but it will save you from stressing over a miss in 1% pump every day.
1252  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: how much do they make? on: May 03, 2023, 01:51:27 PM
one of the only valid reasons is some people can't just " HODL " so they have it from business perspective, any other valid reasons?
I mean two points that you claim are only valid for big miners are still valid reasons. Even if you strongly believe mining is not profitable at all, the fact that people still looking to mine Bitcoin means that they are profitable for them. Whether they have access to very cheap energy or for other reasons, they can do whatever they want with it.

I believe people are not that stupid and will quickly stop mining if they suffer thousand of dollars loss every month with no method to make profits. If you're trying to discourage people from solo mining or starting a new farm, you don't really have to make this thread since they will soon quit as long as it is no longer profitable for them. Not to mention there are dozens of threads talking about this same issue from years ago (you'll probably see similar points like yours from other users when a newbie asks if they can mine BTC with a CPU or a single ASIC, for example). CMIIW.
1253  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: FBI disrupts 9 crypto exchanges used to facilitate criminal activities on: May 03, 2023, 01:37:52 PM
I've never heard of any of these exchanges before. Are they Ukraine exchange that serve US customers or something? Seems like some of their servers are hosted in the US, which is why the FBI is seizing them, CMIIW. Calling them small is probably an understatement if we look at their social media. I've checked the 24xbtc and their Instagram doesn't even reach 1 thousand followers. I wonder how they can do the alleged laundering activities if they don't have a large number of users.

exchanges that were sized seem small, but this opens the way for all platforms that do not require verification of identity that they will be next on that list.
Some exchanges will probably block US customers if they want to keep their no-KYC policy available. Although I'm not sure if that is a good move from a business standpoint. People should look for decentralized solutions to avoid being locked out of their accounts before their exchange starts to demand KYC.
1254  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Hey Guys I am new but looking for testnet BTC. on: May 03, 2023, 12:44:11 PM
I am working on a closed network for routing transactions. I have created some test instances in multiple States and working with routing transactions to avoid certain States, and Districts.
Slightly off-topic. If I'm reading this correctly, you're trying to make pseudonymous/anonymous transactions possible to prevent tracking by government agencies right? Basically a mixer just like the service I advertise right now. Not sure what you mean by closed network though. How does it compare to coinjoin btw? CMIIW. You can probably post an announcement thread if you want to advertise it later and look for tester.

notblox also offers testnet coin if you're looking for an alternative, although I'm not sure if he's still offering it or not right now[1].

1255  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Effects of war on bitcoin on: May 03, 2023, 12:34:52 PM
I remember when the price of bitcoin start going down was same season Russian x Ukraine start economy wars.
You better provide dates or data to support your claim. Even if that were true, how would you explain the previous bear market then? As far as I remember correctly, there is no war back then. You should remember that correlation doesn't mean causation. Sure, countries in war probably mean people are less inclined to invest in high-risk assets, but it is hard to judge how much that contributes compared to other factors.

Bitcoin seem to remained statics because of sentiments by this countries attitude towards the resourceful digital products that would have swim financial hardship.
I believe financial ideology contributes more toward their crypto attitude. Not every government purely decides based on profit. Even if there is no war and every country is doing trades with each other, you can't expect all of them to have the same attitude to crypto. CMIIW.
1256  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is the transaction fee and mempool congestion increasing ? on: May 03, 2023, 12:09:07 PM
So basically, people realize that the Bitcoin chain is more secure compared to other networks to print their NFT, which is why they are fine with paying 30 sat/vbyte now?

Makes me wonder if they will continue doing this or will eventually move back to 'fast' confirming blockchain since it allows them to move their tokens asap. Looks like those blockchain project that aims to anchor other chains to BTC is not going to die soon if people keep flooding BTC with NFT and the demand for anchoring to reduce congestion increase. CMIIW.
1257  Economy / Exchanges / Re: What do you actaully consider KYC in terms of information that has to be given on: May 02, 2023, 01:35:19 PM
My situation is a bit complicated since some government bodies have leaked their data here and there over the past few years. I wouldn't be surprised if my name is listed somewhere even though I never register or use their service. This is why I've stopped registering for new services that require personal information such as name, phone number, ID, and so on. Some of them can be faked or intentionally mistyped of course, but there is also a risk of banning/locking accounts if the platform decides to do so.

Fortunately, a throwaway e-mail address is still an option. I don't think it is a KYC either, as long as I never use it somewhere else that allows somebody else to link it to my personal info. At the end of the day though, I prefer decentralized options as of now since it reduces the risk greatly.
1258  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Feedback on web3 job board? on: May 02, 2023, 01:13:59 PM
It looks like most of your job listings are taken from Greenhouse. Are you using bots to grab the job listing from Greenhouse directly or use another aggregator to list them? Some listings also don't list any detailed requirements and only provide the company e-mail address to send an e-mail to, I guess you just grab them directly from the company itself?

Btw, I tried to see if I can post a new job listing on your website. Does listing really cost $100 per job/30 days? I'm not sure how expensive/cheap that is compared to other platforms, but if it were me I'd look for a cheaper option first.
1259  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How do you stay updated on: May 02, 2023, 01:02:25 PM
-snip-
BoxingScene is a website that focuses on boxing news and analysis. They cover everything from the latest fights and results to upcoming matchups and rankings.-snip-
So is there no website that provides statistics for boxing like football? I'm not talking about away and home results, but something like xG, heatmap, distance covered, shot on target, and so on. While I don't think it can guarantee you to predict correctly, there are tons of them out there for football and it looks like the demand for such website are quite high. I know there is something similar for baseball though, which makes me wonder if those statistics are developed strictly for team sports once in a while.

1260  Economy / Gambling / Re: What is a web3 casino for you? on: May 02, 2023, 12:33:08 PM
The difference between the two is that web3 the decentralized, blockchain-based web - and Web 3.0 which is Tim Berners-Lee's vision of a linked or semantic web.
Makes me wonder which one comes first. While the focus is quite different I think the goal can be achieved under the same platform. If I'm not wrong, the focus on data control for both of them is quite similar albeit solved in different ways. I don't think casinos or any centralized platform will try to participate in semantic/linked websites though.

Well, technically they can catch us, and they can do it pretty easily and to be precise, the hunt down has already begun. I read in a post recently that the authorities are planning to regulate decentralized platforms since they operate without proper licensing and such and they will need to comply with the rules and regulations as well.
The only thing a decentralized-focused platform can do is probably built another UI that doesn't rely on a centralized server, using something like IPFS for example. I believe the government would not spend too much time and money trying to shut down smart contracts or miners since they can just make more profit from that, which is why somebody can pretty much ignore the UI and use smart contract interactions when they want trades. Although I don't think that's ideal for something like a casino.
