The problem I have with this Foundation is that it asserted itself over this experiment and the community. No one asked you to. No one gave you permission. You just did it. You created a corporation to wield power no one granted you.

So what? Anybody is free to create a corporation or a charity that support bitcoin. They don't need damn permission from you.

I wouldn't have a shred of a problem if you were a for profit business dependent on voluntary transactions which merely contracted with Gavin and his team. But you aren't and he is a board member inherently always with a conflict of interest. And saying I can start my own Foundation is disingenuous at best since you know I can't be the one that pays Gavin or his team and have the same power as you do.

So having influences and fame is power. I guess being a rich bitcoiner is having power too. I guess we should equalize everyone's power.

I would like to see Gavin reject hazek's bitcoin.  Roll Eyes
402  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does Bitcoin Have a "Official" Release and a "Official" Team? on: September 28, 2012, 05:52:56 PM
We have encrypted, verifiable and secure online wallets based on javascript, the main one being http://blockchain.info/wallet. Mining software is made separately for specific hardware sets which be easily used with other Bitcoin implementations. People are using desktop-based wallets less and less and are opting for online accounts through Mt. Gox, Coinbase and others. Bitcoin-Qt takes hours to setup while others get you started with ease.

Out of all the choices and development out there for Bitcoin, does Bitcoin have an "official" release? Does anyone deserve that designation? Does anyone have sole development rights to Bitcoin? Can anyone truly be called the "Official Lead Developer" of Bitcoin?

There are the latest releases of bitcoin-qt on http://bitcoin.org

Online accounts that have a number which represents the amount of bitcoins you could withdraw aren't the same as bitcoin clients/wallets.
Bitcoin-Qt is one client out of many.

Sure they are. They run their own version of the software, their own nodes.

If Bitcoin-Qt being on http://bitcoin.org doesn't make it official, I don't see why some people have a problem with THE Bitcoin Foundation.

While the account may have their own software, I am saying that holding a MtGox balance is not the same as having your own bitcoin wallet. MtGox controls what goes in and out when it comes to bitcoin. The account is just acting as a proxy.

I'm not going to address conspiracy theories, mostly because I'm not seeing most of them because of who I've got on my ignore list.
Very good trick if u have nothing to say in ur defense! I hope that the spokesperson of "TBF" won't use it too often...

This is true. If one is truly seeking "input from the community" to help shape this then surely nobody should be on ignore if they are not being hostile?

Gavin, you are a remarkable man. You don't even bother with "conspiracy theories". That's true efficiency.

You know the true importance of "getting things done".

Lead us all!

No, most of us who actually own significant amounts of Bitcoins accept no leaders, no authorities or committees. We will dump and chastise every frivolous addition to the protocol on the spot.

How many frivolous additions have your dumped and chatised? Can you site the specific ones? If you haven't chastised any additions, what will make you do it now that the Foundation exists?
405  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Foundation on: September 28, 2012, 05:22:16 PM
Some of the people involved in this foundation are a part of a cabal known as the Jekyll Island Bitcoin Society.  The secret plans of this organization are anyones' guess.  Is it a mere coincidence that the formation of this foundation follows so closely on the heels of their convening meeting on Aug 22nd in NYC?

Steve, as you and Tony know the Bitcoin Society is just a name for the meetup we have in New York monthly.

60 people were at our las meetup including Gavin, reports, bankers, investors, ect.

There are no 'Secret Plans', in fact the WHOLE meetup was broadcasted LIVE on FreeTalkLive.com

We all the conspiracy stuff takes place in Orlando.

Please don't troll me. We all know who of these three groups is the most likely to try and push for something malicious and who of these three groups is the most likely to agree with it being bought and paid for and who of these three groups is the most likely to get screwed in the end powerless to stop it.

Next time, cut bigger air holes in your tinfoil mask, or just use a tinfoil beanie like normal people.

IF someone pushed for something malicious, and no one but Atlas and a couple of other forum tools even imagine that anyone would, it wouldn't do them a damn bit of good.  The people that could fuck you tomorrow are the same people that could fuck you yesterday.  Having an advocacy group doesn't change a damn thing.

Oh, it's an advocacy group? Well then, maybe they should rename themselves to "Bitcoin advocacy group" and relinquish any ownership of any Bitcoin assets at all. Then I'll be all for it.

Like I said, please don't troll me.

What do you mean by bitcoin assets? the code? or coins themselves?

The foundation has never claimed to own the code.

Lobby group...

Geeks don't know how to lobby. How can we ever defeat hollywood and Western Union?

By electing not-geeks?

Put up a listing!

Also, I like the Onion logo for those who have connected using Tor. On the other hand, I do appreciate that you still allow people to connect anonymously.

I already invested some coins in it Wink

Tor users only receive the "badge" but they still can make listings/lend/borrow.

Thanks!
I hope they wear the badge with pride.

How about the Bitcoin Freedom Foundation? Then we could all be BFFs.

As another poster noted it shouldn't have "the" in the name. That suggests it speaks for Bitcoin. Hello??? Bitcoin is decentralized?

THE is fine as long as it's not THE Bitcoin Foundation.

For example:

The Friends of Karples Foundation.

Bitcoin Freedom Foundation does have a nice ring to it...
411  Economy / Lending / (BTCJAM) (100% reached) 100 BTC Loan Request on: September 28, 2012, 02:01:15 AM
-IMPORTANT- GLBSE claims it will be down until Saturday. I will not activate the loan until I am either certain it is in working condition, or I have decided how  to move forward. -IMPORTANT-

Thank you everyone for bringing me to 100%! I'm still waiting for news regarding the GLBSE before I activate the loan. Hopefully everything will be up and running tomorrow. If not... I may be purchasing mining equipment sooner, rather than later.

Quote
I am looking for funds to invest into various mining operations and/or mining rig(s).

Invested funds would be diversified equally among the chosen bonds by a mhash/sec (where able) basis and I will disclose what mining rig(s) I purchase, when I purchase/receive them, and how much I pay for them (assuming the purchase(s) are made during the loan period).

Thank You
-boonies4u

https://btcjam.com/listings/38

If this would fit better in LTO let me know. I was considering opening a perpetual GLBSE bond, and may still do so if enough people are interested in it... BTCjam's closing fee is simply less than GLBSE's flat 8 BTC fee.

Feel free to ask any questions or reasonable requests, accuse me of heinous acts, and threaten the safety of my wife and children*.

*Just don't do so on BTCjam, it's against their policy

Thank You

To those ones who wanna Decentralization:

JUST start your own bitcoin foundation. don't waste your time to criticize Gavin's work.

...or we can just declare independence from this one and make sure its purported authority is not recognized. Then we can let others work as they see fit.

I don't want a foundation. I don't want power. I just want people to leave my money alone. I don't want mob rule putting a backdoor in Bitcoin.

What are you going to do to stop them from forming and maintaining their foundation? What are you going to do to keep them from seizing power and leaving "your money alone"? What makes you think the mob would undermine their own financial freedom by putting a backdoor in place?

Go ahead and declare independence if you want. Why don't you go and boycott all the coins they receive while you're at it.

They are free to form a collective just as you are free to form or join one of your choosing or abstain from these all together.

I can't help but comment on two points already made:

1) Silk Road becoming Platinum Member.
2) People with money, can buy their way in changing (or destroying) bitcoin.

1) Is anyone allowed to become a member? If not, what are the rules/restrictions?

They have something on their web page about disallowing felons. So I guess that means no Silkroad, no BFL.
...possession of crack cocaine--picked up a girl for you know what and before dropping her off where I found her, made a pit stop for her to make a buy (dropped, after wearing a wire to help with another investigation)(first and last time I've ever seen crack/cocaine).

I would rather have the person charged and convicted of possessing crack cocaine on the board than a snitch. Just my personal opinion.
413  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Foundation on: September 28, 2012, 12:46:59 AM
Can we just give Atlas a solitary subforum so he can spout off his "eternal vigilance" mantras elsewhere?

This "eternal vigilance" has never accomplished anything. You may think that the reason the Federal Reserve bill was passed, and every other continued transgression of the state succeeded was because of a lack of people like you, with your "eternal vigilance". It wasn't. These events are determined by the systems in which they occur, and only change due to paradigm shifts. The United States of America was doomed from the founders to become what it is today, regardless of so-called vigilance. Bitcoin is one of those paradigm shifts. Blathering Alex Jones types do nothing but draw attention to themselves, and in your case, post 50+ times in a single day.

+1
This is beyond lame. Now I know why there was a distractingly loud burst of absolute silence earlier today, it was the collective yawn from masses of Bitcoin users over this announcement. Next time, don't try to build up excitement by foreshadowing "something big" only to let people down.

I was expecting:

- A new piece of technology / software
or
- A revolutionary business model based on Bitcoin
or
- Mass regional adoption of Bitcoin by retailers
or
- Acceptance of Bitcoin by an established political center

What I got INSTEAD was a sausage party that decided to put up a website and ask for donations.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the effort that goes on behind the scenes by the developers (thanks Gavin) but for all of the hype I expected something bigger.

We're still getting the bitinstant debit card. *shrugs*
414  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Foundation on: September 27, 2012, 11:50:45 PM
All I can say is that this paranoia must not die. Liberty requires eternal vigilance.

The Bitcoin Foundation can become a titular bank if we allow it to.

What harm can a titular bank do?
415  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Foundation on: September 27, 2012, 09:03:08 PM
Where do I sign up to become President of this 'foundation' ?

Probably become an established member of it and get the others to vote for you.

I don't know what I find more annoying, that certain things could have been avoided if the bitcoin foundation already existed (for example the outcome of the bitcoinca dilemma) or the reaction of the naysayers.
All I see are rants and sarcastic statements.

Gavin already has control over the code, the other board members control over their respected companies, now they form a coalition and enable you to take part of that control and you are complaining?

I rather overthrow this control than go through the effort to gain its approval. Once I have the means, I will be tearing this shit apart through whatever is necessary.

I rather reign in hell than serve in heaven.

Or you could just get the fuck out.
416  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Foundation on: September 27, 2012, 08:09:16 PM

Bitcoin doesn't need a government.

True. But people do. Why don't you try a nice weekend in somalia?

I would much rather influence Somalia into a much more ideal Anarchistic grouping.
417  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Foundation on: September 27, 2012, 06:48:55 PM
If there is no victim, there is no crime.
People who enforce victimless crime laws are the criminal agressors and need to stop.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5mZ5FBHg0A

Still, since the foundation is a legal entity it needs to respect the laws even if they are unfounded.

Now the world knows why I am not on the board.  Smiley

Nice video. Best of luck to you and the (people of the) US. And bitcoins for that matter.

I would hate to see this leap in freedom of what people can do with their money to be destroyed or undermined.

If I were to put up a listing for 100 bitcoins, and it was funded at 80%. Would I pay a 1% fee on 100 bitcoins or 80?
419  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Foundation on: September 27, 2012, 05:19:30 PM
I'ts not difficult to list someone as a founding member even if they "disappeared"

It's not difficult, it's just a lie. As the name "Bitcoin Foundation" itself, since you're not the foundation of Bitcoin.

Whats a lie?

Satoshi is a member of the foundation because he is the creator of Bitcoin.

Just because he "disappeared" doesn't mean he can't be member in absentee.

In fact, the bylaws outline that if Satoshi returns how he will claim his seat.

Is this wishful thinking? Or covering your asses?

I'm surprised you put him in the bylaws, let alone saved a seat for him. Unless your guys know something we don't?  Wink
420  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANNOUNCE] skude.se/BTC - an easier way to request your daily free coins on: September 27, 2012, 03:52:22 PM
It looks like you let the captcha expire.

After just the few seconds you have to wait to click submit? I wouldn't think so. (The screenshot was taken a bit after that...took a bit to find the KDE screenshot app.)

Why does the Daily Bitcoins timer have 37 minutes on it then?

Geez...I wasn't expecting the Spanish Inquisition.

Maybe this sequence will make the problem more obvious:

Waiting for the timer to count down:

Clicked the button and got this:

These were taken with Chrome on Windows, but it happens in every browser I've tried (Firefox, Chrome, Chromium, iCab Mobile) on every OS I have (Windows, Linux, iOS).

You didn't win any bitcoins. LOL

Seems like you have bigger problems than messed up Captchas.
